Installing Helper Leaf Springs

- I installed these helper springs to help level the truck when towing our camper. This will increase the tension in the rear springs. It should help with sway and even help when using the truck for things like loading mulch or lumber in the bed. Thanks for watching.

As always make sure you read all instructions when choosing your products to make sure they will work for you.
Installed on my Chevy Express 1500,2011.worked great !
Raised backend about 1/2 in .Rides nice ,not stiff .Van is loaded with tools and equipment. Recommend for helping with a load.
Waiting to see if helps sagging when my small boat is towed ?
Never used that brand, but all other brands say to tighten the axle-end of the spring to torque, and use the back end as adjustment...
Exactly
Thank you for the video. Simple install. My question is about lifting the vehicle... do I lift vehicle on the axle or body to reduce load on the springs?
I lifted body. Before I tightened them totally, I put it down and then tightened to the proper foot pounds. Then checked them about 100 miles later.
Just crank them down all the way? Hows everything going so far?
@@KB-xm5vg they worked great. I did move on to airbags and moved on to s super duty truck. Thanks for watching!
@@FTRV I got ya thanks for the reply
Thank you Buddy, that exactly what I was looking for!
Railway Hd great! They are working pretty good. Thanks for the support.
And that's why I think you got them installed wrong I build hot rods for a living.
Can these be added to RV camper trailer leaf springs?
I'm no professional, but I would think if they fit they'd work fine.
how did they work ? im thinking of buying two sets of this things could you tell difference handling and all that stuff ?
Made it a little rougher ride, have since moved to airbags
@@FTRV do you have the link to that installation video? What kind of air bags and did they perform as expected?
@@rwreuter we didn't film that, sorry. The performed great. I would put in enough air to get the truck back to level. Need to go down to minimum of 5 lbs when not towing because the ride will be really rough for everyday driving. I didn't get the on board air compressor so I manually put air in them with a home compressor and air gauge.
@@FTRV What kind of, or brand of air bag/lift setup did you install? Thanks.
Wow you say it raised your loaded ride height by 2"?? So this is exactly what is needed to keep a leveled truck from sagging while towing
Hope it worked out
@@FTRV seems to help a lil bit, dont know about a full 2" but doesnt sag with the 800lb atv in the bed
I actually installing these now, though I'm putting two sets on, one in back axle a one in front on both sides. Directions show U bolt opposite (flipped) is there a reason you did that?
I am not sure what you mean. Each u-bolt is the same either way. There isn't a way to flip them.
How did it help with sag under a load?
It helped. I did it to tow an rv and it put me almost 2 inches higher
First Time RVers awesome pulling an rv next week and wanted to help with sag
Are you gonna use a weight distribution hitch also?
First Time RVers yeah for sure going to use one. Also upgrading to 10 ply tires so that should help as well, won’t be as squishy as stock 4ply tires
does it take just one on each leaf spring or does one go in the front and back of each leaf spring ?
Just one on each side
You can install 2 on each side for more support
@@GiovanniGiorgo didn't know that. Thanks for the response.
bought the same kind however they show the plate going on top with the bolts sticking up.
I can't recall but I'm one to follow instructions plus, at least the ones I had, the u bolt fits perfectly in the grove on the helper spring. I don't think that the plate would sit flat on top of the helper. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
How much did you lift the truck with the jack before starting the installation?
Joel Camacho put it on jack stands just to get it a little higher.
Must be nice to have a new truck without a bit of rust.
That truck is gone now. The one I have now is getting ready to hit 200 thousand miles and still doesn't have any rust.
That's living in the south. No salt on the roads. My truck has 160 and is 13 years old and the only rust on it is on the exhaust.
Can u tourk the helpers too much? I have no tours wrench
You know, I don't recall. I'm sure you could but I didn't use one. Wasn't to concerned. If it was new leaf springs or shocks or something I would have been more concerned.
All helper springs I've seen go under the leaf spring.. why are these on top?? Anybody.. Bueller...
Just do some more research. 1) see the box in the video, these are OVER leaf helper springs. 2) google the directions for this model and you will see that they go over the leaf. 3) there are also UNDER leaf helper springs, these are not that style. If you want to take the time to search for yourself you will see how they are different. Thanks for watching anyway. Stay Gold Ponyboy!
aww poor people in North Carolina its 65 degrees and they complain
Right!? Come on up to Rochester NY in January! I was in NC at a race about the same time this was posted! I was working on my bike in the pits in shorts between runs!
I laugh when people think 95 degrees is hot.
I think you're supposed to install those on the bottom of the springs not the top.
They do make some that install on the bottom but these install on the top per the instructions and the box itself. Over Leaf Spring Assists.
@@FTRV ...hmmmm
Wow I'd like to see those instructions never heard of them going on top.
@@Marksmith-it2xy a quick google such will show you plenty of them. You can download a pdf from Dayton Parts that states install on top.
@@Marksmith-it2xy the box clearly says over leaf. There are several kinds of helper springs and most go over. Especially the vehicle specific ones. There is only one type that go under.
Does it matter if it Goes under or On top the Leaf spring?
This style is for the top but they do make a style that goes under the leaf springs. The ones in the link below mount under the leaf springs:
amzn.to/2U7ih2A
Different manufacturers have designed their leaf spring helpers for mounting above or below the leaf spring. Some mount below the spring to PUSH the spring up into it's original factory position and other mount above the spring to PULL the spring up into it's original position. The position depends on the make and model of your vehicle. Make sure the "helpers" you purchase are compatible with your vehicle and follow the manufacturer's mounting instructions. Those that mount below are generally easier to mount.
Lets hope u don't have a gas fuel fuem leak or that Mr Heater will make a explosing show!!!!! n your cooked!!!! hahaha....lolololololo....
Maybe. But as a former hazmat technician I know it would take a lot more than. If it was that easy people driving and smoking or standing around cars while smoking would make an "explosing show!!!!"
Great video bro, but the product is shit. Installed it on my truck yesterday evening and woke up this morning and it was snapped in half. Truck didn't even have a load on it.
Sorry to hear that. Mine lasted almost a year before I took them off, sold them and put airbags on. I pulled a 10000 pound camper at least once a month and also did truckloads of mulch and garden soil.
Did you really just bring a heater out? Come on guy.
Cold hands on cold metal i dont enjoy
