I worked on this game. The video, and the comments below, are heart warming to say the least. We all knew it had its flaws, but seeing the life that this title has taken on with its fans has been one of the better parts of my career. Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you for your brilliant work of heart, you made our childhood❤
this game was literally my childhood. I played this game for thousands of hours
DUDE THOSE SMOOTH AS FUCK WEB SWINGING ANIMATIONS WITH 18 MONTHS OF DEVOLPMENT! PHENOMENAL!
how did u get to work on it
she how did it feel when working on the game
My favorite part of this game was breakdancing on the walls while Spider kicked the bad guys in the face. It was really fun.
Wait you could do that
Wall combat was great , camera not so much something the playstation game could implement and do right........I think insomniac could pull that off
@@TristanTheVRGamecat the camera was only ever wonky when locking onto an enemy at least for me
Yeah!!! Along with the aerial dancing too lmao
i loved that break dancing move, its actually quite effective, the Red Suit was a lot better on the walls then the black suit in my opinion
The best part was the fact that you could fight while wall crawling. Added another dimension to the game. Hopefully the new upcoming game has that feature.
Black Suit Spinning Tentacles on the wall OP asf
Just raped Venom in the 2nd fight with that move over and over again in a matter of seconds lol
It's one of my favorite aspects of combat, it made me feel like a Looney Tunes character to go from beating someone up on the ground then web zipping into an air combo then getting mobbed by a symbiote zombie army alongside a wall directly after the air combat. A small detail that I loved: if you get your timing down good and you web swing uninterrupted the sound will fade out into rushing wind and deep breathing, which doesn't add anything gameplay wise but is just a small cool detail.
get a job mate
@@xanmancan That makes no sense lol
@@xanmancan get a job mate, instead of going around telling people in RUclips comments to get a job
Loved this game. The ability to switch seamlessly to the symbiote suit even mid combo, the arrival combat, the freedom of the boss battles. So good.
I remember telling my friends about this game back in the day but nobody ever cared about this game. I bought it in day 1 on my PS3. No regrets. Such a great game
I remmember showing my friend this game and for a good while we were just trying to see which swinging move would cause the suit switch to stretch the symbiote as much as possible 😂
Same here even had friends who played the game for a bit. Didn't care for it at all. I loved it! For a while even thought I was one of the few in the world who liked this game 😂
@@MrTerrorzone2012 ya not alone I think we all knew it had its flaws but we didn't care I know I was looking at some of the Npcs in distance just laughing at how bad they were but charms and limitiations of the time still ya gotta laugh
I hope you got better friends

Web Of Shadows took over my life at one point, and I tell EVERYONE about it. Like you said, it's very underrated and I personally would love to see a remaster or even a full remake. I would play the hell out of it again and again.
A remake would be so fire
Fucking for real
Same man...I would love to play a remastered version of this again... i'd played nothing like this back in the day.
I also absolutely adore the game, and I think a remake may not be far off. With the leaks for SM2 stating that every suit in the game might have a symbiote variation, and another leak stating that the combat system is similar to web of shadows, maybe the suit swapping is also like it where you can chain combos with both suits.
Same!!!!
The web strike mechanic is my favourite combat mechanic in any game I’ve ever played. I wish some other game could bring it back or even a version of it. It’s so awesome.
You’re right! It absolutely is one of the most satisfying control mechanics in any game I’ve played.
After this game, the Web Strike became a regular attack in many games. Unfortunately, it's nowhere near as useful as it is here.
I played the game on wii lol that shit was fun as hell with motion controls
A lot of people don’t realize how much influence the insomniac game had from web of shadows. The combat is pretty similar and the web strike attack and stuff and the swinging is super similar. Stories totally different but mechanics and animations are pretty similar at times
I feel the swinging in WoS relied more in space awareness and physics. Insomniac's although incredibly satisfying I think is a lot more lenient to the player
Though they are very different. Web of shadows combat has proper hit boxes and is more like a hack and slash game. Insomniac uses precanned animations when punching and kicking. Meaning the combat is stickier, and attacks will only hit one enemy no matter what. Unless it's swinging objects around like a windmill.
So like you can see a roundhouse kick hit two enemies, but the game only detects you hitting one.
Also Insomniac has 0 wall combat
I am hoping the sequel takes heavy inspiration from web of shadows. The combat and traversal mechanics are a lot more fun there, but needed a lot of fine tuning
it was also inspired from TASM 1 the ideas that are scraped for that game are introduced in it
Nah they took everything from the Batman Arkham games
@@MakaveliDior 🧢
Figuring out the web zip attack on Wii was a nightmare and a half. That mission where you have to do like 50 in a row perfectly gave 10 year old me a few gray hairs
I feel your pain 😭 hated that mission
you just gave me flashbacks oh god
I did it for like 127 times before going to the next level.
Preach!
literally
Yes! Finally, Web Of Shadows getting some love. This and Shattered Dimensions were the highlights of Activision's run with the character.
Shattered dimensions sucked
Web of shadows is still my favorite game ever
Yes. I was thinking I was the only one who actually enjoyed this game.
Man I just said the same thing. This game was awesome and it caught me 100% by surprise when I rented it from blockbuster
@@andrewgarfield9898 Shattered Dimensions ruled.
This game's story, choices and multiple endings were incredible. Very under-rated game!
If they can manage to keep the narrative coherent, I'd like to see something similar in the way of moral choices and multiple endings in the upcoming game. But I've learned it's not the kind of thing that can be forced. So we'll see.
I havent played this game, I used to be a kid that watches youtube videos of playthroughs without actually playing the game cuz I couldnt buy it. When I saw this game IT WAS SO FUN and amazing. The combat style, the web swinging, the scary story, it was genuinely a good game I enjoyed as a child
A game where you can watch someone play it and get enjoyed? You know that's a perfect game.
bro we had the exact same situation as kids i always did the same thing. just curious who were some let’s players you watched?
Me too, i only had a ps2 and could only watch videos of this game. I was in awe whenever i saw the aerial combat
You guys can always...pirate the game... arggg 🏴☠️🏴☠️
@@Ryukushinn At least I bet you could buy games, I had a 360 back in the day, we barely had games, mostly awesome exclusives, never more.
*THIS NEEDS A REMASTER/REMAKE!!!!!* So damn underrated
So much replayability too. Moral choices for spiderman is so badass
I beat this game like 40x when i was a kid. Absolutely love it. I would die for a remaster.
@@unomaster6828 i swear i played this 100 times a day
@@JACK-kp8tb same🤣
Nah. I’m sick of remakes. But I would *love* a sequel/new game.
They need to add a newgame+ if they do, I wanna use tendrils on vulture at the beginning lol
Always LOVED this game. It deserved at least a remaster.
This game still has my favorite iteration of web slinging to date. Finds that appealing line of control speed and style without taking out failure and asking you to get better.
You're doing god's work.
idk about that
Yooo white light haha Any idea how to emulate it? Wanna play it so bad after watching your video 🙌
Y
Next video better have WOS within the first 10 minutes Whitelight, it's your legacy
Goat
Love to see Web of Shadows finally getting some of the appreciation it deserves
This video makes me even more sad that Microsoft didn't make this one backwards compatible with this last and final batch of games recently. This is an amazing game with really good mechanics and solid graphics as well as just really fun gameplay, It was a blast to play through and one of the best spider man games that almost nobody talks about.
yea it sucks but its most likely a license reason
not their call since it’s not a first party game.
Yeah probably licensing unfortunately, I’m also sad about Bionicle Heroes not being on there… but we still have lots of titles
Licenses is sucks
Same here I keep hoping to see this game and Shattered Dimensions every time I see a list of new backwards Xbox games... But like others said it's probably licence stuff.
I was so surprised to find out much later that this game that I enjoyed so much was actually not that liked by fans everywhere. It's genuinely a great game.
I don't understand why this game was hated on so much. I think the webswinging was groundbreaking at time. The voice acting an story beats were underwhelming but the gameplay was awesome
The web swinging was great. But the repetiveness of the missions was a main reason for the critics. I played it a few times start to end, and I can say the best missions I remember were the Electro chase and Vulture fight. Not to mention the collectibles !
Yeah the voice acting was garbage
@@imsmart799 really? I actually liked the voice acting a bunch.
@@GIick_ when you listen to it right now, it does feel a bit off but back when I first played it like 2 or 3 years ago, it was amazing to me
Tbh the animation of MJ sucked
while watching playthroughs of web of shadows as a kid, I thought it was such a dark, enticing turn for a spiderman game. I agree, the game deserves some love and it is indeed, badass
yeah the darkness of the game, really made you feel the setting when you realise there are no people in the city as the game progresses.
I loved that I could make choices on where I wanted Spider-Man's story to go. When I played this as a kid I played the entire thing without the black suit because I was going for the heroic path, which was actually really cool that it was even possible to do looking back. I want more superhero games like this where you can make choices, like an rpg. That would be amazing
Try fable 1
Infamous
@@ScDarkness913 true. One of the only ones. Not really an rpg though. And i don't care for second son. But the first two were great
Ever play the first ultimate alliance game?
@@thenovicewhispers agree second son blows, first one is incredible
I love web of shadows and always weirded me out how people never talked about it.
One of my favorite things is the story and how the game transitions through the phases. Gosh! It was stuff from nightmares to see the civilians behaving so creepy, then seeing the heroes and villains getting controlled by symbiotes, and how the city distorts with time, OOF.
The trailer of the game is also very nice; I love that Beethoven melody.
I played both the PS2 and PS3 versions of the game, and I remember them fondly.
The year is 2007. You're browsing trailers of the mid air web strikes and the insane symbiote mechanic combos in Web of Shadows and waiting for its release. You're crying to your parents to get a new graphics card specifically to play this game. You're showing the latest videos of this game in your MP4/Ipod to your friends. Life is good.
Thanks a lot Gameranx and Jake, this brought back a shit ton of memories. :')
*Underrated only by critics.* Most gamers, me included, really liked this game.
It was one of the first games I played to completion, in a time I hardly ever finished singleplayer campaigns.
Still recall playing the epic finale. What a fun game.
Omg same. This was one of the first games where a the ending really stuck with me I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Same. It’s not underrated at all. It’s one of the best and everyone knows
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows remains my favorite Spider-Man game. even for as great of a game something like Marvel's Spider-Man is. Web of Shadows is just so near and dear to my heart. ontop of that I loved the morality system. i like how they brought the comic assets like Wolverine's quizzes where each quiz and answer is related to a particular comic book that Marvel did. i love they brought the other comic book assets of Symbiote Spider-Man choosing Black Cat as a lover and red and blue suit Spider-Man choosing MJ. for all the flaws in my opinion Spider-Man: Web of Shadows still holds up today as a great game and the only Spider-Man game where you can have Spidey go against the norm of being the good guy he usually is and have him embrace the Symbiote eventually becoming evil. like I enjoyed that so much.
This game brings back so many memories, the web strike chains were so fun
Woah! I remember this game.
I was a young teen at the time and struggling with Panic attacks and depression. My parents surprised me and bought me this game to cheer me up.
It was the last nice thing they ever did for me but still I remember loving this game and it helping me escape my reality at the time and have some fun.
what do you mean... the last nice thing they did for you?
@@bobbaseball5182 You know what he is saying.
The combat, game play, and swinging were way ahead of their time
No?
@@madgun5098 uhh yeah
yes it was
This game was my favorite out of all. The animations and just generally dark scenery copared to other Spider Man Games were just insane in that time and age. Masterpiece!
This game needs a remastered version. I played this game for 2 times straight, and man the game is so awesome.
Web of shadows is a masterpiece and needs a remaster
This game and shattered dimension were so good. Especially this one. I went to my local 2nd hand store a few years back and picked both up to make sure i had copies due to delisting of digital.
Shoutout to Gameranx for recognizing real! Loved this game as a kid.
👌
I remember this being the first game I ever completed when I was 10 years old. Amazing memories and definitely a game worth checking out!
same
Absolutely love this game, and how unique every aspect is from the story to the mechanics. was absolutely a bright spot in a pretty long drought of decent SM games at the time
AT LONG LAST IT HAS HAPPENED, this game in the era when all trailers for all consoles and handhelds were the same and confused and tricked the many...especially kids as well as the dark edgy age when games had choices and an overall dark mood of Prototype and Infamous. Thanks for covering this, this game is a gem and I still say it had the best swinging and obviously best combat for sure
This game was literally the friendlier version of Prototype. There were too many similiarities too.
You have to give the suit design some of that love , I remember my mind been blown to bits after seeing the light reflecting of the suit
People will say it is repetitive but I always loved the web strike mechanic and aerial combat was just soo FREAKIN COOL. I hope Insomniac can add a bit more to the aerial combat when SM2 comes out.
I loved this game so much, especially the black suit swinging and combos and being able to switch on the fly. Makes me really sad that it isn't backwards compatible
Web Of Shadows was so much fun for me. Sad to know that it didn't get the recognition it deserved. I would actually play it again if I ever get the chance.
Ah yes... Web of Shadows finally getting the attention it deserves. The game had some unique endings depending on which choices you make in it and usage of the symbiotic suit. Still got my copy on the PS3 before it went up on price.
Went up on price?
@@VongolaXZax its going for 60 to100 bucks on ebay
I still have it for Xbox 360.
Web of shadows was awesome. It got me at the intro sequence where the whole city is overwhelmed with the venom symbionts and the moonlight sonata is playing.
I remember coming out of elementary school one day, my dad had the pre ordered shirt, poster and game waiting for me in the backseat. One of my best memories
Man web of shadows is one of the best spidermans games I played. It's a disappointment that there's no other game like this. What it has compared to other spiderman games is its fast paced action and very fast swinging. Truly a underrated gem.
This was the first game that I ever completed on 100. It was so good and all the alternate endings just made it so much better. I don’t think they’ll ever do something like this because instead they would want to make more money with games for specific characters
This game was and is still a ton of fun like it was limitless no axis locks for combat situations is just amazing walls, air and ground the combo potential in this game was so much fun plus the swinging was great as well
As a kid, this was my all time favorite game. And for YEARS I’ve been wanting a full recast and remake of the game because the concept and storytelling of the games these days could make this game one of the goats💯
One of my favorite video games of all time!!! Still in my top 3 games after 13 years and still has some game mechanics like the wall and air combat in don't see in other games. I'll continue to play this game for years to come ❤️
Spiderman PS1 was one of my favorite experiences. At the time I was young, but I thought that this game was a masterpiece by how many areas you go through and how any bosses you fight.
This is a childhood game of mine, one of the first games my father allowed me to play with zombies haha. I still remember quite a few moments that I cherish to this day, and I without doubt believe that Venom in this game is the most intimidating and believable of all his appearances in other games and even movies. Amazing!
Crazy to see how much of an influence this game has on Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, especially in the last act
Still my fave spider man game. The combat and movement were just so satisfying and me being a teenager at the time I loved how edgy it was
I love this type of reviews of old school games, please keep them coming! It would be interesting to watch a review coming from you guys, of games like Ultimate Alliance, Marvel Nemesis, Wolverine’s Revenge, etc!
Marvel Nemesis was a masterpiece of a platformer and fighting game. It felt so real, and they got the characters powers right!!
I loved the fact that you could start a combo on the wall, then knock an opponent to the ground and then in the air, while switching between red suit and black suit made this such a fun game.
As a kid, I was kind of spooked by the symbiote infested city, but I loved everything second of it
Now I might try this game, thanks gameranx!
Hope you enjoy it!
It already got a bunch of attention before but it seriously needs more it was such a huge map with a lot going on
"symbio wolverine" was all I needed to put this on my list
I absolutely loved web of shadows when I was a kid, I remember actually being afraid of the monsters at the bottom so I'd try to stay up as high as possible lmfao, overall though I played it through many times and even did another run 2 years ago and it holds up incredibly well. I also really enjoyed friend or foe I remember grinding that game for countless hours on my PS2, the golden times man.
I loved this game so much, the allies the enemies, so much life into the game, this really deserves a sequel or remake!
My least favorite part about Web Of Shadows is that some console ports are side scrollers, while others are full 3D experiences.
yeah i remember a friend of mine had the ps2 copy of it and i was confused as to why the game looked like was so unimaginative, hell the Nintendo DS version was a lot more enjoyable
Yeah I got the ps2 version as a kid thinking it had free roam lol
i hope it remaked with the same every thing but with high quality graphics .. it is so iconic game
WOS was mint. Venomized Wolverine, working WITH elektro, Luke Cage team ups! I loved this game so much
Okay hear me out... Shattered Dimensions is the MOST underrated. It WAS well recieved for the most part, but I will say that it isn't talked about enough!
nobody really talks about like it doesn't even exist, but this game was soo good
It’s so goddamn fun. At the beginning the classic Spiderman’s gameplay felt boring, until the stages are getting better with sandman. I unlocked web cannon and web whip with rocks
Man especially the story it would give before every mission about the villains. Like the vulture one when you were spider noir and the way the characters were voice acted legit use to give me chills. And the fact each spider focused on a different type of combat approach and tones that blended well. Truly underrated
I think my favorite part is seeing different characters affected by the symbiote. It had never occurred to me that it would happen like that but it makes so much sense. Would love to see something like that play out in live action
Web of shadows had so many similarities to prototype and i loved it. The black suit powers got so op when you unlocked everything and got the tendril axes. Fantastic game.
This brought back so many memories... I wish we could get a remaster or at least a port for new gen consoles for this game.
way underrated this game should get a remaster with new graphics and mechanics
I loooved this game as a child, I always wondered why it didn't get more recognition. The Symbiote suit switching was as cool to me when I was a kid as the miles morales cool diving stunts/swinging mechanics are now.
A remake of Web of Shadows and the Shattered Dimensions series would be a childhood dream come true. They were my favourites back then.
I love this game so much I unlocked all extras/costumes on both the Wii AND PS2 version when I was like 9 LOL. Definitely one of my most loved childhood games along with Prototype.
The correct answer. Always wanted a sequel. Was close to a marvel zombie games
Couldn't agree more. Activision did phenomenal with their games, more for the lore than gameplay of course but it was badly needed and I hope to see them Collab for story at the very least.
This was my favorite game growing up. The combos you could do with changing suits was so amazing. It had a high skill ceiling. I loved it.
I remember playing this as a kid this game should be in a museum
I love how much Jake loves Spiderman and isn’t afraid to give his opinion and even keep it open it’s really responsible and show how journalism should be done! Thank you to Jake and the whole team have a lovely holidays! Stay Golden 🐻👊🏼❤️🙏🏼
The best thing about this game was its incredible writing, dialogues and story. It was so dark and grim that i loved it sm. Amazing game with amazing gameplay and story. The story was incredible af
eh, the story sucks, and the voice acting is horrible, like we never see Eddie Brock as venom, and there are too many heroes in this game, also spiderman never takes off his mask
man this video just unlocked some memories… i remember being 8 years old coming home from school and hopping on this game. literally made my childhood
I used to play this game when I was a kid. I have been looking for it since I forgot the name of the game and here it is. Thank you for making this game and making it a big part of my childhood
Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time.
Just finished playing them (and Web of Shadows) on a PS3 emulator. Great games.
DAMN RIGHT! dude this game is a MASTERPIECE, favorite game of all time for me. I genuinely believe this game has the best movement in ANY video game no question.
IKRR it upsets me so much when ppl don't realize just how many traversal options there are in this game that they don't tell u about
Thank you for showing love to this game , feels good to see others who were smitten with this just like me
This video was really good, I like this style. Thanks for the content, you guys. Happy holidays 🧊
Thank you so much for giving this game some much needed love. This game is one of my top 10 favorite superhero games of all time. Sadly never got all 4 endings before it was discontinued. Great story, loved the web strike aerial combat and morality choices. Hopefully folks get a chance to play this game. Thanks again.
They need to remaster this game
I remember a friend lending me this game and me plowing through it. Underrated gem.
I remember I was blown away by how ridiculously fun the web strike mechanic was, never got tired of it.
I just wanna say the cool things for me in this game :
1. The combat was badass to the bone. Being able to skateboard enemies??
2. The story was actually gripping, characters were interesting and actually likeable
3. The swinging. *Bruh*
4. The enemies were also amazing.
5. How expansive the game felt.
Overall.... Remaster please?
I’ll never forget web of shadows. It was the first game I ever beat on hard completely on my own
How can you beat it on hard if it never existed 🤣🤣
I think there's no Difficulty.
this was my fav game on the 360 when i was like 5-12 and i’ve played it so many times. if you haven’t played it, i highly recommend
This game has the most nostalgia attached to me I remember staying up playing it in my apartment in NYC when I was like 6
not only did this game feel good, but the fact that there was a morality system and choices as to who you side with and how the game ends was mind-blowing to me.
This is still the best Spider-Man game ever made imo. The combat and traversal were god tier! There was so much you could do in the game gameplay wise. While I do love the PS4/5 games, the combat and traversal are barebones as hell and don't need much skill, but the writing and understanding of Spider-Man are top notch.
Lots of memories with this game! Have replayed the story multiple times on the Wii and Xbox
This was one of my most favourite video game, I loved the story, the combat but most of all the world on how it starts as apocalyptic and shifts to the past events and from there it goes from being a just another day for Spider Man City to an apocalyptic city really that progression is what I always remember great job bringing this game attention you guys are the best
you know I’m something of a web of shadows fan myself
I remember this as one of the first games i finished
The number of villans and allies in the game were so cool
Also different upgradeable attacks were also pretty awesome
When i looked at the thumbnail i was hyped all of a sudden
I love this game, it’s combat and traversal in all aspects was damn near perfect and full of variety
I played this when I was like 7 years old and I have to admit it's one of my fondest gaming memories
