- Valjean is a weirdo. He loves chewys like pig ears, but when he gets a new one he'll walk around the house with it whining for about five minutes before chewing it.

My dog does that when he wants to go outside and bury it in the yard. It's so precious, needs to be kept for another day. :)
I have two heelers. One will want to go outside and burry high value treats. The other just eats it there straight away
His instincts are to go somewhere private and it's clear he wants outside but finally gives up... My blue also loved pig ears and would go chew it away from me in the yard
I think he wants somewhere to hide it mate.
Possibly, although there’s plenty of places around the house to hide it yet eventually he brings it back near me to chew it.
He wants to burry it and can't do that in the house
My Mr Patches gets just like this with pig's ears and bones. He feels he has to go outside to his special chewing spot and that eating it on his bed or floor is akin to making a mess he might have to answer for - he tells me all this very clearly. If its too wet outside I put a big towel on his bed, reassure him, and then he settles down with some relief that it's all ok. Seemed plain to me that this was also in Valjeans mind, even more so than just simple privacy and bone coveting lol. He is a good boy.
My ACD did this yesterday, whining and searching the entire house with the pig chew in her mouth. I guessed she wanted to bury it and make it soft before she started chewing it. Bears bury their meat to soften it up, no? Next time, let your ACD out and watch where she goes and does.
I mean bears can chew through the flesh easily lol. It's more about hiding it and saving it for later.
He wants to bury it
well that sure got my cowboy (6 month old tri-color) all worked up... HB
Is he looking for a place to hide it?
That seems to be the consensus, although he never actually does hide it anywhere.
Your dog is overweight, and needs long runs everyday outside. He's eating that pigs ear because he's bored shi#less mate, and wanted to bury it outside. Buy a pushbike and run him beside you on a lead everyday. Why ppl buy working dogs, when they live in suburbia is beyond logical. Visits to local parks and doggy events are nowhere near enough for this high-drive working breed.
He's 35lbs. for a breed that averages 35-50lbs. so I fail to see how he is overweight. He also gets at least 3 hours of outdoor physical activity every day + additional indoor activity throughout the day, to the point where when we are not engaged in physical activity he is usually just sleeping, so we don't seem to have any trouble expending his energy.
Most people do not buy dogs, shelters are full of them, no need to purchase a dog in the US, can find any breed in shelters. There is actually a large influx of Heelers these days (I blame Bluey). We have a Border Collie/Blue that came from a rescue, yes she lives in suburbia, she gets 2-3 hours of actual exercise a day, far beyond a simple walk a day.
Maybe its just me but I do not see anything overweight on that pup.
@@bbaff8622 Valjean is also a rescue. There are 4 total (including him) Heelers in our neighborhood which, while slightly on the more rural side of suburban, is definitely still suburbia. They all seem happy, healthy and well loved as far as i can tell, so having a heeler in suburbia is definitely possible with the right amount of effort. The comment about Valjean being fat is definitely weird, as he's 35lbs. for a breed that ranges 35-50lbs.
@@ValjeanTheBlueHeeler Some people just have to say their piece.
There is one person I know after we got our mix that went out and went looking for one, she lives in a apartment in SF, the rescue actually told her the dog would do fine and does not need much outside time.
We told her what is going to be required but she did not listen. Not sure how it is going but fairly sure the dog is back at the rescue. Wish I could take on a second but were at critical mass already. 5 cats 1 dog, 3 birds (large birds).
