I am a total beginner with AD. I’m using it to manipulate digital sewing patterns, to prepare them to project them onto fabric and cut the pieces out. I have watched sewing-related tutorials about how to do this or that with AD, and they mention the tool they are using, but rarely say how to find it. So this video was a huge help! Thank you for being willing to teach such a basic thing.
I was self taught (vinylmaster) then Affinity and been here ever since, but your statement towards the end about not showing this first time "student", learn as you "need"!!! One caveat to this is I find myself wanting to do a certain "task", only problem is a newer user (myself included might not be familiar with all the right phrases to bring up a good search and resulting video! One in particular for me was "embedded" doc's,.......Thanks for a great video. I'm looking forward to setting up my workspace the almost the same as this, there was a different one that I saw and was like I HAVE TO HAVE!!!!
Thank you for the information on Affinity Designer: Question: why do you need two artboards to show the front and back of a business card, for instance (1:50 in the video). Why can't you put art for both sides of the business card on to a single artboard?
Thank you very much. I wish I had taken the time to learn what each tool did, instead of blundering around trying convoluted ways to make shapes for the past few years!
Is there a mesh tool for perspetive. Since I am new to Affinity from Illustrator, wondering if there is Mesh tool for perspective. i will see more of your videos!
Thank you for your tutorials. Is it possibile to explain how to put an image on a glass, botole etc BY using THE Warp tool? There something I cannot understand well. Thanks a lot.
I have a question about art boards and moving items. Like I said, I’m using AD to manipulate sewing patterns for projection. If I have two pattern pieces on one art board, could I call up an empty art board and move one pattern piece onto the new empty board and then name the new art board (which then becomes “page 2” of the file?) and then save the file with one pattern piece on each page? You said each art board would be a page of the file. Or could I save each of those art boards as a separate file?
I’m new to affinity and I have been watching tutorial videos and noticed that some of the buttons people pre I don’t have on my affinity , I have the latest version, for example I noticed that on the layers section poeple have a tick button, but I don’t have that tick button,
Why sometimes with two figures side by side is there still a white thread? Yet there are no edges. As if it were a numerical precision problem in vector calculus
Hello! I'm struggling with using Affinity Designer V2. I'm always getting margin lines. in my artboard. I can't draw the square. When I draw the square it goes away when I want to move the square. I don't understand how the stroke and fill button works. When I try to use them they are always disabled, I have that slash sign on both of them. Also, How did you create the square @0:16?
The slash just means there is no color applied. Click on your shape or curve in the layers dock to select it. Now click on the donut and then click in the color wheel to select a color. If you don't see any change, select the "Stroke" dock and increase the stroke above zero. For the fill, click the circle and select a color.
I would like to know one thing, if I take an image generated by AI and then edit it, removing noise, applying filters and new elements among other edits... would you be able to tell me if it is still a generated image? Or this image becomes a new produced image. The nature of this question has been asked to AdobeStock a long time ago and I have not received a response. I think this must be a new controversy generated, but I would like to know your opinion. Sorry, I know this doesn't relate to the context of the video, but I decided to ask this question.
Hello. You are wrong about vector brushes. If you draw something with a vector brush, and then go into the layers, then you will see that it says Curve, not Pixel. So what the vector brush draws is a vector object
Man Serif really needs to step up their game. v2 is barely an upgrade over v1, all the more advanced options that professionals been asking are nowhere to be seen. After years with designer, I might revert to illustrator, due to stagnation
@@acidtears blend, image trace, being able to replicate objects in a circle, just from the top of my head. I’m still sticking with Designer because the UI and UX on adobe products is abysmal, and I really don’t want to pay 60€/month. I’m seeing a bit of a move in the right direction with tools being added in point releases, so there’s that.
@@m4t7eo Thank you for the response! Yeah, I definitely feel you on the Adobe UI & price part... 2 weeks into using DaVinci Resolve after 2 years of Premiere and it feels like I got rid of a toxic gf lol Glad to see Affinity is moving towards the right direction as well with their newer releases.
Ion see nothing missing but the 3d tools. & I’m a. iPad user you can’t even access all tools + we can switch between photo designer & publisher with studio link something Adobe cannot do yea. Fight you can preach tho free country
I'm sorry, but I have a very hard time understanding this presentation for a few reasons. It goes very quickly, the presenter speaks very quickly, and I can't understand everything that is said because of his accent. His English is good, but the accent is too strong for me. Since I can assume is Affinity software available to an international market, perhaps Affinity could offer tutorials with an option to select a language for the presentation. As a side note, I have been working in graphics programs since the advent of personal computers in the design field: Pagemaker, Freehand, Quark Espress, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop, etc., so this isn't my first attempt at adopting a graphics program.
Hi, I'm just a random foreign teacher with a squeaky microphone. I'm not associate with Serif - developers of Affinity, I think it will be better if you post your suggestion on the official Affinity forum.

Many many thanks
Great video!! Thanks so much! :)
13:12 No, you dont need to manually switch. You have button "H" for View Tool, and "Z" for Zoom tool.
Can you insert a picture into a shape like in photoshop? Is it done with masks?
Cool cool cool cool, and how did you make the square?
Rectangle tool, hold shift key and drag, or you can hold ctrl+shift (cmd+shift if on macOS/iPadOS) and drag to make it from the centre
