Hello! Resident Old Person on the Internet here 🤣 Shein is an offshoot of "She Inside" (so yes for those of you pronouncing it as SHE IN, you're correct) and I first came across this company while planning my wedding in 2011. Back then the planning forums were full of discussions about discount Chinese factories (Light in the Box was another popular one) who would "copy" any dress you sent them a picture of, along with your measurements. It was SO, SO, shady and I heard so many stories of heartbreak when dresses did not arrive on time, were not to order, were not the right size, or were just so cheaply made that they could not be worn. Grimly, a lot of them had little spots of blood on the stitching as well, another hint that the factory conditions were terrible, even back then.
I live in Europe and Shein has made things affordable for families to dress!! All clothing is either now made in Turkey, Bulgaria , India or Asia. Other European stores like Bershka and Pull n Bear are just as cheap as Shein and Zara and H&M are much cheaper in Europe than Australia.
@@SzadyBohlyou buy there for cheap and will pay a lot for blood on your hands because of the human slaves they use… something to think about especially if you believe in god
I had a similar issue in South Africa. I purchased a name brand off an online store in South Africa and I thought I was buying the actual thing. I later tried to see where the product was made because I started getting suspicious because the packaging looked cheap. It ended up being a fake. Now when I purchase from the same website, I make sure that it is getting shipped from the manufacturer, to make sure that I am not supporting fraudulent companies.
@@Leelon 100% correct😄! I literally look now to see who is distributing before I buy, to make sure it is not fake. I definitely don't want fake makeup on my skin.
Takealot neh? It also has the same problem as these Amazon, Shein, Temu and other online stores. I feel like because online market is still new the world doesnt yet know how to regulate it and ensure authenticity of their sellers and the products they sell.
THANK YOU for an important PSA, Robert. Shein, like many other large online retailers, has a third-party "Marketplace" that's not directly coming from Shein but is more like Amazon, where different sellers can create a storefront and sell anything under the sun, including counterfeits. It's the same as the hubbub about Walmart "selling" Drunk Elephant and other brands not generally associated with discount stores like Walmart. I personally think it's shady AF, and I don't think that it should be entirely on the buyer to beware, but it is important for consumers to know to check closely whether they are buying directly from the retailer or a third-party seller.
I would not purchase counterfeit merchandise in any form. This is such a great content and so informative. Thank you again for reaching out to the companies and letting them know Robert. PS your eyes look amazingly crazy beautiful ♥️☮️🖤
I am in Australia and just over 10 years ago it was incredibly difficult to source makeup here. A lot of brands didn't sell in Australia. Those that did had insane markups compared to overseas, and/or sold a very reduced product range, and we didn't have any large chains like Sephora (Mecca was around but it hadn't franchised and wasn't the massive online retailer it is today). Back then, Strawberry Net was a website that we would use to source cosmetics from abroad. For the most part it worked out, but they definitely sold some dodgy stuff too (expired makeup, sometimes fakes). Online forums had information for how to check if the product you received was real or a fake, as the fake cosmetics were often really dangerous. It's wild to see the name name Strawberry Net pop up again!
LOVE your channel so much Robert! Love your deep dive videos, especially like the rise are fall of Mac. Would love you to do more videos like that ❤❤ this video was so interesting, Shein seems to be taking over the online shopping world 😩
Counterfeit products are big business. The come from China, Korea, Hong Kong & other places. That's what's being sold at Shein & other online retailers - even Amazon to an extent.
Amazon has had this problem even before SHEIN. It is just a problem with having a marketplace where people can sell and buy because it is difficult to ensure authenticity of sellers and products they sell.
SHEIN has recently allowed 3rd party sellers on their platform…. It’s basically like eBay now where you can buy products from known brands sold by 3P sellers.
Yeah, I tried Shein once. The clothes were awful quality and the fit was also terrible. I vowed never again, and then as I learned more about these fast fashion, dupe/ripoff companies, I was glad I never looked back. The clothing at least was not even worth the cheap price for me.
Good information! I'm a trusting soul and would not have suspected anything hinkey if I saw multiple brands including high-end available for sale. I am probably now going to be even more cautious when buying products on-line.
I don't know how much truth there is in this, but I recently read an article about clothing. It was saying the designer labels use the same factories in China. So that same factory can sell the exact same product, for a lesser price, it just doesn't have the name brand label is all.
Top designers generally use much more expensive fabric than cheap designers, plus the cut is usually very different. Some clothes may be sewn in factories in China though....
*pinning because this is a good and valid point!* By this I meant you don’t have to be a big name brand. I should have been clearer there! Professional criminals take in more than $2 million a year! And can easily set up stores like this!
You're saying this like 2 million is a lot lol as robert pointed out, scammers can make these numbers easily. And you're working under ther assumption Shein even genuinely check for these requirements or truthfulness on the people who sign.
@@BeccaNa It's not. It's just a way to sell products like Amazon Marketplace or eBay Buy Now. The company gets a cut off each sale. The US version doesn't seem to have a $2 mil minimum.
@@RobertWelsh yes you're right! I really didn't mean this as harsh as it might have come across! I just kind of laughed to myself when you said that bc I went from thinking I could literally set up shop on SheIn to like uh nevermind 😂

LOVE your videos!!! I could listen to you talk all day!!! Your voice is so soothing to me! ❤️ My kids have ordered clothing & accessories from Shein before (nothing makeup, skincare or perfume wise though) & they liked their stuff, but I personally haven't tried anything from them myself. Happy Monday, Robert!!! ❤
Here's the thing, mall pulls out old products from shelves at least monthly. Those products end up in warehouses where people can still buy in bulk. I do buy stuff from sellers who does this in TikTok shop, they are legit, they even still have the barcodes from the mall they came from, but just be aware that these products are old stocks, not necessarily expired, but VERY CLOSE. They have at least 6 months to one year before the expiration date.
I haven’t bought from SHEIN, but I would advise people to also be cautious when shopping on Amazon. I used to buy practically everything from Amazon, but I’ve become more careful. There are so many people selling junk out of their garage. It’s not necessary fake items. If you read the reviews, a lot of stuff is expired and damaged, or used and repackaged. That’s disappointing if you’re buying a pair of shoes, but dangerous if it’s makeup or food.
i work in costumer service in one of the LTD's you've mentioned, and got a few also asking about Shein and responded them same,we can't know it's ours 😅 better to avoid purchasing from them
Fake make up brands is also a problem on one of SA's biggest online retailer Takealot. They have different sellers selling for them,a lot of the make up and skincare is fake.Learned my lesson, will never buy any beauty brands online unless it's from the brand itself
Even ordering from Amazon, I wouldn't for any popular products that are potentially counterfeit. As a former hairstylist, I had clients buy from Amazon and tell me the products didn't really work as well, or even smelled completely different. I had one bring in the product and it looked EXACTLY the same as one from the company. So I think they're out there producing some really great counterfeit products. The funny part, is that it wasn't even cheaper on Amazon, no clue why she bought that.😅
this reminds me of the fake cosmetic documentary I saw about the kylie lip kits. Some poor girl got one and the gloss turned out to be super glue, or some sort of glue. Her lips..... ouch
I know clothing on Shein was found to havr INSANE levels of lead in them, even their childrens clothing. Its in the dyes so it doesnt wash out either. I wouldnt touch anything from any of these cheap websites either. They have a pop up shop in my area (vancouver bc) and im so disgusted
It’s like when people buy brands that don’t officially sell on Amazon. It’s vendors who buy or find products that dropped off a truck 😅. Buying makeup and skincare on Amazon is too risky, unless the brand officially sells on Amazon. Check a brand’s retailer list. I used to buy makeup on eBay (don’t judge, it was in 2012-14). I remember buying a sample of Ben Nye banana powder aka someone putting it in one of those small MAC type sample containers.
I love how much awareness you’re bringing to this kind of issue. People are always trying to save money where they can these days and I can see how many consumers fall into this trap. I’ve never shopped on SHEIN or will I ever! But thanks for this ❤
A few days ago I googled a jacquemus purse and was shocked to see a listing by SHEIN on there with the purse. I clicked on it and I think they had it listed at like $300, the original is $900 if I’m not mistaken. I was wondering what that was about.
I have buying skincare products from SHEIN a few times…and there are not bad and I always making sure that it’s gentle as possible….i have try to find the brands you are talking about and I can’t find them on the app…😳🙈and I have began to buying and testing skincare from Temu when there have larger selection then SHEIN
Now i bought clothes from shein once and let me tell you i would never buy something to put on my face like skin care or make up from them. Especially in the wake of all their issues
Of all these dodgy sites I only buy from temu. I buy crafting stuff and the occasional cat toy. I did buy a lipstick recently but it was because I loved the tube it came in. I removed the bullet, disinfected it and the replaced the bullet with a legit mac lipstick. My opinion is, anyone buying cheap makeup (that’s not essence, e.l.f. Or nyx or somesuch) is nuts. Don’t risk your health for money.
I'm kinda broke but you know what? Nothing will ever make me buy from shein, makeup or clothes, I don't understand how people justify it. There's places to get clothes for cheaper anywhere else but maybe that's my country (in SEA) and tbh makeup is not that expensive as long as you're not aiming for branded stuff
I agree with you! I get my makeup from Korean brands and Chinese brands (only those listed in Chic Decent website... those which have extremely low prices like RM3 for a foundation, hell nah) Same with skincare, except I got those from local and again, affordable Korean brands which aren't that hot on social media sites. I just see whatever ingredients work for me and stick to the same products for now.
I don't purchase anything from Temu or Wish, and once purchased from Shein before I knew more about them. Just 2 dresses. They were ok. Can get same at H&M, Forever 21 or Rainbow.
I ordered some of those wristbands that absorb water so you dont get everywhere when you wash your face from Walmart. Its been weeks and its almost here, so i saw where it was coming from on my USPS account, and its coming from alibaba. Im so bummed i gave them money, cuz i really dont like supporting sketchy companies like that🤷♀️
Really disturbed by the StrawberryNet impersonation... I bought from Shein D/T my overwhelming desire to get Girlcult cosmetics (who DO sell there officially and have amazing products btw). While ordering those, I bought some mascara from what I thought was StrawberryNet and who actually sells this particular mascara. So far I haven't had any issues but I'm not buying it again from Shein. Thanks for the PSA, Robert!
My dad always says : "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is". Especially for cosmetics, I've seen some documentaries on counterfeit makeup and it's horrifying to learn what they sometimes find in those (illegally made/sold) products! I'm talking feces, blood, metal particles, etc... So everyone please be careful, you don't want to risk putting your health in danger because of a sketchy cheap makeup product.
Iv bought clothes on there previously, never would buy skincare or makeup tho. The clothes took me back to the days of playing dress up with my mothers clothes as a small child 😅
I am SO SICK AND TIRED of so many freaking scammers in this world. There are people who literally go to a job every day, a job to just scam people out of their hard earned money. It’s unbelievable! It p**ses me off so much. I hate hate scammers. I know so many people who have gotten scammed from buying things online, and it’s terrible we have to be constantly skeptical because of so many scammers. Ughh! 🤬 Why don’t they get a real job, making an HONEST living, like normal people? 🤬 Jerk-offs Amazon is getting just as bad. There are so many fake products and fake “stores” on their website. When it first launched I never had to worry about getting fake products. Now I practically have to be a private investigator just to make sure products are legit, and place and order

Exactly it is just weird. In South Africa we have takealot and it is also experiencing the same problem.
I see Robert post, I click ❤️😌
Thank you! 🖤🖤🖤
This is the investigative journalism we need 😩
It used to be called She Inside but then changed to She-In xx
that is such a weird name. I thought the "in" part was like she in fashion or something but she inside? jfsldfksdf I cant
seriously? 😭
She inside!!? What a strange name!
I remember seeing a random ad when SheIn was She Inside when I was 14/15, they offered party/prom kind of dresses back then!
I always thought it meant she-in as in the know or in style
“I don’t know,I am not a criminal “…😂
My eye makeup will never look as good as Robert’s. Stunning.
Your makeup today is stunning. The shades of blue are breathtaking.
🤔looks grey and silver to me. But really gorgeous anyway
I LOVE this icy, minty eyeshadow look 🤩 I would love to be brave (and skilled) enough for these bright colors.
I would not purchase counterfeit merchandise in any form. This is such a great content and so informative. Thank you again for reaching out to the companies and letting them know Robert. PS your eyes look amazingly crazy beautiful ♥️☮️🖤
I've been shopping on Shein for ages and never had issues with their makeup! Always genuine products, love their selection!
“I don’t know,I am not a criminal “…🤣🤣
Pretty sure the smashbox pallet I got there was fake. It was not nearly as good a formula as when I got to try real smashbox products
Many legitimate products are made in China
Requiring 2 million dollars in revenue before you can sign up to sell doesnt sound like "just anybody" can sign up to me.
*pinning because this is a good and valid point!*
By this I meant you don’t have to be a big name brand. I should have been clearer there! Professional criminals take in more than $2 million a year! And can easily set up stores like this!
Sounds like a🔺️ scheme imo
Thank you for looking into this more for us & helping educate us more.
This eyeshadow look is mesmerising
I've bought makeup from Shein countless times and it's always been authentic! Love their variety and quality!
which brands did you buy?
It's like selling on Amazon Marketplace or Walmart's equivalent. The US version doesn't seem to have a $2 million minimum.
I was on the other day and saw benefit hula!! I was like wtf so searched benefit and loads came up but were around the same price benefit charge I was so shocked to see them on there!!
omg, this is top notch journalism! thank you for your effort!
Actually, it’s really not. Because he’s wrong.
Netflix has a documentary on this subject. It's called Broken and counterfeit makeup and the issues it can cause.
I buy stuff from SHEIN sometimes but when I saw they are selling luxury stuff I was wondering about it , I’m like WTH is going on
Robert may not judge you, but I will. I also refuse to buy from Amazon, so...
I only bought a liquid blusher that was pretty good. I didn't have any issues or skin problems, but I never bought anything else either.
literally i love you robert
🖤🖤🖤🖤🥹
If I see anything luxury on fast fashion websites I assume it's fake.
Everything i needed for my sunday, a new video from Robert✨💜
Hope you had a good weekend!
NOOO I GOT A SHEIN AD BEFORE THIS VIDEO!!!
Robert 🥰💝💝💝I love your uploads eeekkk you never fail to make me smile your amazing!!! Me and my wife love you so much!!! Xx
Thank yooooou! 🖤🖤🖤
Got my Tom Ford lipstick from Shein, compared it with my counter-bought one, it's legit! Don't knock it till you try it!
I'm so happy that I saw this video. I was considering buying Georgia Armani makeup on shein. But now I know not to waste my money. Thank you Robert...
i work in costumer service in one of the LTD's you've mentioned, and got a few also asking about Shein and responded them same,we can't know it's ours 😅
better to avoid purchasing from them
Fake make up brands is also a problem on one of SA's biggest online retailer Takealot. They have different sellers selling for them,a lot of the make up and skincare is fake.Learned my lesson, will never buy any beauty brands online unless it's from the brand itself
Earliest I've ever been 😂 Also are we surprised that SHEIN is doing whatever they can to find more junk to sell 😅
Wow I bought from strawberry net over 10 years ago. Can't believe its still around
Just mesmerised by how lovely that eye look was.
This reminds me when I was a kid I would buy knockoff products, not to use, but for my shelves in my bathroom and bedroom
The funny part, is that it wasn't even cheaper on Amazon, no clue why she bought that.😅
I just got a SheIn ad before the vid started. 🤣
this reminds me of the fake cosmetic documentary I saw about the kylie lip kits.
I can't believe anyone would have thought it was real!
SHEIN had a massive problem with there site last year people were typing in kids shoes and sex toys were coming up, they fixed the problem eventually
Whaaaat!? 🤦🏻♂️
@@RobertWelsh I couldn’t believe it when I saw a tik tok about it until I checked for myself, it was shocking
I agree!!
"i don't know, i'm not a criminal, i don't know" love it
I have buying skincare products from SHEIN a few times…and there are not bad and I always making sure that it’s gentle as possible….i have try to find the brands you are talking about and I can’t find them on the app…😳🙈and I have began to buying and testing skincare from Temu when there have larger selection then SHEIN
Shein sells the products on the backs of poor workers I refuse to buy from them
I'm kinda broke but you know what? Nothing will ever make me buy from shein, makeup or clothes, I don't understand how people justify it. There's places to get clothes for cheaper anywhere else but maybe that's my country (in SEA) and tbh makeup is not that expensive as long as you're not aiming for branded stuff
I agree with you! I get my makeup from Korean brands and Chinese brands (only those listed in Chic Decent website... those which have extremely low prices like RM3 for a foundation, hell nah)
Same with skincare, except I got those from local and again, affordable Korean brands which aren't that hot on social media sites. I just see whatever ingredients work for me and stick to the same products for now.
I don't purchase anything from Temu or Wish, and once purchased from Shein before I knew more about them. Just 2 dresses. They were ok. Can get same at H&M, Forever 21 or Rainbow.
Always brightens my day ❤ and looking stunning !
tbh i've never bought cloths or makeup off the sight only house wear products xx
I was wondering about this I'm glad you said something
I've only used shein for homeware, but I'd probably only use the makeup part for tools/brushes
I ordered some of those wristbands that absorb water so you dont get everywhere when you wash your face from Walmart. Its been weeks and its almost here, so i saw where it was coming from on my USPS account, and its coming from alibaba. Im so bummed i gave them money, cuz i really dont like supporting sketchy companies like that🤷♀️
Amazing investigation! Thanks for this, informative and entertaining 😄
Lol I got a SHEIN ad before your video started
A lot of items on amazon are from China. You see the same things on amazon then on sein and temu.
Yes it’s very true it’s “drop shipping”
Wow! The more you know! Good job 👍 😊
Robert pleaseeee do a video with James on buildin an affordable Skincare and Makeup set for 2024 😭 im broke and my beauty products are all expired
Your eyes are dazzling.🩵💙🖤🩵💛🖤🩵💙🖤🩵💙🖤
Great video and look as usual Robert.
🤬 Jerk-offs
Amazon is getting just as bad. There are so many fake products and fake “stores” on their website. When it first launched I never had to worry about getting fake products. Now I practically have to be a private investigator just to make sure products are legit, and place and order
Gorgeous eyeshadow look!
I have bought a lot of stuff from shien. Clothing, most of it was good. None makeup beauty products, again absolutely fine. And also makeup. Lipstick, eyebrow pencils, eyeshadow pallets, etc... all really nice. No bad or allergic reactions 🙂
I've purchased some items from them but only specific items Definitely not the counterfeit items. Dupes yes but not counterfeit.
