There are videos of Bill performing this since Bobby's passing. He ends with "If there's a rock and roll heaven ... then Bobby's got a hell of a band." Bobby's grave marker includes the inscription "If you believe in forever ... then life is just a one night stand."
This song has been re-recorded several times to include other artists who passed away after this song came out, including Elvis, John Lennon, Marvin Gaye and a lot more. Also, it was written by Alan O'Day, another one hit wonder (Undercover Angel)!
Im 62 and was 16 in high school when this song came out, those guys all been gone a long time now and a lot have since joined them including Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers here... loved this song for almost 50years now...still gives me that feeling
My thoughts exactly! Eddie is up there now playing insane duets with Jimmy and blowing people's minds! Neil Peart pounding the skins with his idol, Buddy Rich!
No list would be complete without the King, Elvis and of course Michael and Marvin and Solomon and Chuck Berry and Little Richard and Fats Domino. Don't forget Roy the Boy and Ricky Nelson. What a big band that would be indeed.
Why does this song bring tears to my eyes? This is genius but then again, this is the Righteous Brothers. And Bobby is up there leading them all . God bless
I remember in 4th grade we we’re gonna have a party and the teacher asked us to bring in 45s to play and I brought this song. I was the most popular guy that day and we played the hell out of the song!
And now, Bobby 6:46 belongs there, as the brightest star. We still love and miss you, Bobby. Jamal, Bobby has been gone 20 years now. There is one of his songs that you may not have heard, recorded when he was older. "Stay With Me." His vocals are again amazing. Passion, love and heartbreak., as in all of his music.
Me too! I'd love to hang with Jamel for a day and just teach each other our favorite musicians. What a beautiful day that would be to gather a small group of music lovers just sitting back and enjoying the sounds. No arguments. No judgement. Just happiness.
I don’t understand how anyone can put a thumbs down for this reaction. The song is a great tribute to all the singers who left us way to early. And as always Jamel did a great reaction!!!
What really makes this song even more sad is that all of these artists died young, and within a 5 yr span prior to this song’s release in 1974. Otis & Jim C in plane crashes, Jimi, Jim M & Janis of drug-related causes and Bobby from a heart ailment. Waaaaay too soon for all of them. RIP
*I think while the tribute part of the song is awesome a missed part in the reaction was this part: There's a spotlight waiting No matter who you are Cause everybody's got a song to sing Everyone's a star (Everybody's got to be a star) They wanted us to know we were all as important as those stars which I thought was cool. Peace
There’s another version the Brothers Righteous did. The stanza sang Elvis loved us tender,John Cried give peace a chance, Roy introduced us to his pretty woman.
Love this song! Ref to... Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Jim Croce, Otis Redding, Bobby Darin... and now the gorgeous Bobby Hatfield RIP to all 🌹
This came out in '74, so at the time, all those artists their singing about really just died a few years before. It's great that you know a lot of the artists they're mentioning since you've been doing your show on RUclips. Gives you some perspective of just how loved each of them was and what they meant to the world of music.
Actually they added a verse to include Jim Croce in the song. The Righteous Brothers were not the original of this song. Climax, famous for their 1972 hit, "Precious and Few", released the original version of "Rock and Roll Heaven" in 1973. Jim Croce was still alive at the time, so obviously he wasn't included in Climax's original version ..... Such an emotion evoking song. Every time I hear the Jim Croce bit "remember Bad Bad Leroy Brown, hey Jimmy touched us with that song. And time won't change a friend we came to know," it brings tears to me. Rock and Roll heaven does in fact have one hell of a band.
What a song, paying due tribute to all the greats. Now they are in rock n roll heaven putting one heck of a show, now that bobby has joined them it makes this song even more touching. To all those greats that have went on to their reward in heaven, rest easy my brothers and sisters, you are truly missed and we will see you soon in rock n roll heaven, where there will be a heck of a concert in heavens amphitheater in the sky. RIP 😪❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹
Great message in this song. Our lives are just a whiff of smoke. The real fire is burning beyond the horizon! RIP to all the great artists who have gone on.
And now Bobby's singing with them, hitting the high notes. I'm picturing the ones mentioned then adding Freddie, Stevie Ray, Elvis, Karen, Kenny, Bonzo, Rory, George...the list goes on & on. A concert to end all concerts, a jam session for the ages. Heaven indeed.💙☮🎶
@@footballlover9207 Oh, yes. I hope she's at peace. I'm surprised I'd forgotten John when I read your comment. I was a child when The Beatles first conquered the world, grew up loving them. I could hardly even look at the building & especially that entrance. I think sometimes, when discussing music & the greats I almost block him out. As usual, love your reactions. They initially rejected this song because they thought it was not an RB song. Critics hated it but fans made it a top hit. As a continuation of this, you should hear Bill sing California Goodbye. Last track on Almost Righteous album, the first recording Bill did after Bobby's death. (5 years later.) Was written by Steven Dorff for Bill to sing as a tribute. It will choke you up. 😭
In a fact known by few, the song was written by Alan O'Day, who had a #1 hit, himself, "Undercover Angel" in 1977, and also wrote Helen Reddy's #1 "Angie Baby" in '74. "R'n'R Heaven" was co-written by Johnny Stevenson, a singer and keyboardist. Climax ("Precious and Few," #3 in 1972) actually were the first to record the song, but their version failed to chart. Re-forming in 1974, The Righteous Brothers were presented with the song as a possible cover to record, but Bill originally balked, thinking it lacked the "old Righteous Brothers feel." Noted songwriters and producers, Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter, had just begun their own label, Haven, a Capitol Records affiliate, and they substituted the verses referencing Buddy Holly and Richie Valens (as they appeared in the Climax version), citing their inclusion in Don McLean's "American Pie." As Bobby Darin and Jim Croce had passed within 3 months of each other in late '73 since the Climax recording, Lambert & Potter added references to those two artists, and also produced The Righteous Brothers' cover of the song. FYI: Lambert & Potter, longtime recording artists in their own right (together and separately), have written and produced for (among many others) The Grass Roots, Hall and Oates, Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, Gayle McCormick, the Four Tops, Dusty Springfield, Richard Harris, and Glen Campbell. In fact, Lambert & Potter were nominated for a Grammy for producing "Rhinestone Cowboy" in 1975. Lambert, born in New York, is 74, and he and the UK-born Potter, 82, are working on a Broadway musical called "Score."
Jamal I just want to take a moment and thank you for doing these reactions. I just started watching you about 3 months ago after I had my heart attack and have enjoyed watching. You are a wonderful human being so genuine and can always put a smile on my face even when im feeling down so once again thanks for doing what you do and keep great music alive my friend🤘
One of the greatest of them all...Bobby Hatfield, 1940-2003, 8 months after RnR Hall of Fame induction. They sang You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin,' their voices had changed a bit, but it was the best ever performance ever on that show. bill is thankfully still singing, but Bobby will never be forgotten. So thank you so much for this, Jamal. Love your channel.
Love this song! If it were not for my older brother I would have not understood this song so much but I do! It is a wonderful tribute to those wonderful artists who are no longer with us. Peace! ✌☮
Since this song was made in 1974, they could not put the biggest star that died. I’m talking about the great Elvis Presley who died in August of 1977. That was one of the worst days of my life. I cried and cried. I was 15 years old and people at school would make fun of me because I was a big fan of Elvis. The kids did not realize the impact the Elvis was in the music business. Mind you I went to school with quite a few famous metal/hard rock guitar players. So the kids were more into that. Don’t get me wrong I love Metallica, testament, primus and blind illusion. Lunchtime bands were great. But my love for Elvis was something I shared with my late father. He promised to take me to Vegas to see Elvis when I turned 21, but that never happened. Thank you for playing one of my favorite songs of 1974. Gosh I can’t believe it has been 47 years since rock n roll heaven came out. Rest In Peace Bobby Hatfield, you gave us a great song.
Elvis' death hit my Dad really hard, as he spent his adult life loving everything Elvis. Back then, I didn't have an appreciation for Elvis because, like the typical child, rejected whatever their parents liked. I was more into Zeppelin, Sabbath, and other hard rock bands of the 70s. I'm so glad that as I got older, I was able to greatly expand my musical tastes!
Real musical talent touches your soul on a cellular level. Older musicians give a piece of themselves and you feel it. Thank you for keeping our music alive
If you believe in forever, than life is just a one night stand. Wow, just wow, never heard/saw before. Beautiful song, RIP to ones we lost.Thank you brother
This is a 40 some year old song that rings true now, and will ring true in 50 years, 100 years, 5oo years. This is truly a timeless classic, to be honest. Thank you Jamel_aka_Jamal, you rock our worlds every day and every week. Love ya brother.
Brings tears to my eyes thinking about the artists that have left us. There are so many more than mentioned in this song. Cheers Jamel!! Thank you so very much.
My lifelong best friend was a wannabe musician. Wrote his own songs, performed at all the open mics in his town. made me get onstage and play backup every time I visited him. He had a stroke at age 46, was recovering at my home when he had a second, major, stroke, and died in my hands as I tried to save him via CPR. I have a memorial tattoo for him on my right shoulder and across the top it says " Life is just a one night stand" RIP Jay B
Hope, Faith, Charity and Love. Hope, that tomorrow will be better than today. Faith, that with every ones help it can be. Charity, give yourself to help others. Just one act of kindness can change some ones life. Love, because that is what the World needs plenty of.
I've always said this song should be a never-ending song- just think how it could be updated with those who have been lost since the Righteous Brothers released this masterpiece in 1974. Rest in Peace Bobby Hatfield.
The Righteous Brothers were a cover version, but they had the best version. The original version was by Climax, an uncharted single in 1973, a year after their top-5 hit, "Precious and Few". The big thing I love about the cover by The Righteous Brothers is that they added the verse about Jim Croce, who was my first musical hero. Jim Croce was still alive when Climax released their original version in 1973.
I really like this. Bobby, the little one, could sing so high, and Bill, the big one, could sing with that great baritone. When they put their voices together, the made a perfect combination. Thank you for this. Good job.
What a great song and tribute to those great artist who enriched our lives the years they were with us. The Righteous Brothers back in 1974 still sound great. Great pick Jamel for this treasure.
I know I'll be adding to this list as I think of them, but here are the ones who's song have touched me. Selena Quintanilla George Harrison John Lennon Tom Petty Stevie Ray Vaughn Eddie Van Halen Davy Jones Peter Tork David Bowie Freddie Mercury Whitney Houston Prince Michael Jackson Glenn Frey As I said I'll add as I remember, and will add any that one wishes to comment about
Forgot about this song. So many others have joined that Rock-N-Roll band since 1974 including Bobby Hatfield himself (as well as Helen Reddy who introduced them on this clip). John Lennon, George Harrison, Prince, Michael Jackson, Tom Petty, Chris Cornell, Amy Winehouse, Elvis, Mary Wilson, Donna Summer, Karen Carpenter, David Bowie, Luther Vandross, Freddy Mercury.....SO MANY MORE that I could name. I would like to thank them all for the music that touched our lives and our souls. 🕊
I love this song. When I die, this is where I want to go........but I can wait a bit😂🥰. I have to say that before YT, going waaaaaaaaaaay back, Napster introduced me to so much music I never would have heard (and I bought CDs because of it) that I believe channels like this really DO keep the music alive. You rock, my friend!
I had quite an extensive music collection before RUclips, but it comprised mostly of the more well-known songs and albums. Napster gave me the opportunity to download so many songs that I hadn't heard in decades, or that I had just simply forgotten about!
Lambert & Potter were one of the best staff songwriting teams ever. They wrote this, " Don't Pull Your Love Out" "Sooner or Later", "Keeper of the Castle", and many, many more.
What a great tribute but this sold old .( the song)........imagine a rock and roll heaven since then ...good lord.. country, rock , blues , r & b blues and soul ....what a nice place to be.

It's always interesting to see these performers update song as time passes. I think they updated this one before Bobby died with some more who had passed. I know Barry McGuire did it with his song Eve of Destruction too about 20 years ago or so.
This song's always been really cool for me heard it first back in the seventies and cuz I was around for all of these people when they were alive and singing and being great unfortunately was there for when they all passed and love their music then love it now and I guess I'll probably love it up to the day I take my last breath and join them. However this song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it because I know now that Bobby's up there with them Bobby Hatfield and he was always one of my favorite artists and singers and now he's up there with that band that is so much bigger now than even back then there's got to be literally hundreds and hundreds a great musicians and artists up there now and that would literally be one whale of a band.

A great tribute to several great performers
Hope, Faith, Charity and Love. Hope, that tomorrow will be better than today. Faith, that with every ones help it can be. Charity, give yourself to help others. Just one act of kindness can change some ones life. Love, because that is what the World needs plenty of.
We haveJamal for this✌️💖
My supergroup up in rock & roll heaven consists of Freddie mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Bruce, Ray manzarek, and John Bonham!
Bobby is up there singing with the greats! RIP Bobby! We miss your beautiful voice! ❤❤❤
My mom had this album on 8 track in the 70's when I was a little kid.
I love this song SO much. I was raised on this music. I'm 30 and I'm sitting here crying. I love them (and those mentioned), so much 🥰
I've always said this song should be a never-ending song- just think how it could be updated with those who have been lost since the Righteous Brothers released this masterpiece in 1974. Rest in Peace Bobby Hatfield.
Touched my heart. Thank you. By the end of the song I'm clapping and crying.
Fascinating how they captured so many greats in one song! This music and time is TIMELESS🌹🌿🌹🌿🌹
The Righteous Brothers
were a cover version,
but they had the best version.
The original version was by
Climax, an uncharted single
in 1973, a year after their
top-5 hit, "Precious and Few".
The big thing I love about the
cover by The Righteous Brothers
is that they added the verse
about Jim Croce, who was my
first musical hero.
Jim Croce was still alive when
Climax released their original
version in 1973.
This song touched my heart in so many ways. What a wonderful thing to look forward to. This song was God sent.
I really like this. Bobby, the little one, could sing so high, and Bill, the big one, could sing with that great baritone. When they put their voices together, the made a perfect combination. Thank you for this. Good job.
FINALLY someone did this song. Big hit in 1974. I was 17 when this hit the radio. Always loved this song, still have it on compact disc.
What a great song and tribute to those great artist who enriched our lives the years they were with us. The Righteous Brothers back in 1974 still sound great. Great pick Jamel for this treasure.
I’ve been waiting for you to react to this song.

This song and Night Shift by the Commodores always touch my heart. So many fantastic talents are lost too early.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. I never get tired of hearing it.
Awesome, Beautiful tribute to the Greats...Got chillzzzz....Thanks J. Peace
Jamal your appreciation of this song is uplifting as are you and your messages continually, as spoken and emblazoned on your attire. Bless you.
No, thank "YOU" for keeping great music alive!!!
I like the wording. How they could tell a little history of each singer and make it work so well.
What a great tribute but this sold old .( the song)........imagine a rock and roll heaven since then ...good lord.. country, rock , blues , r & b blues and soul ....what a nice place to be.
Dang, Bobby could’ve been one of the Temps with that Falsetto.
that was Not falsetto. Bobby was a counter-tenor, could go from Baritone to G5 or higher. Natural high-register Tenor.
Hey we know Jimmi and Stevie are up there jamming
....and Neil Peart playing on drums.....alongside Keith Moon and Freddie Gruber.......R.I.P.
John Bonham, Ginger Baker.............
Legends singing praises to late legends. Cool
Jamel it was the 70s THEY WERE VERY Beatiful This came out in 1973 ,The 70s had so many up lifting songs,, Loved your reaction to this wonderful song , Take care Jamel
That wall of sound was unmatched and they were amazing
Oh yeah... An oldie that never gets old. ❤️👍🏻
Rock and Roll Heaven by Righteous Brothers in "1974".
The Righteous Brothers ROCK N ROLL HEAVEN on American Bandstand 30th Anniversary Special -1981
at 1:59/4:09 Elvis sang and he shook the World. And young girls SCREAMED out his NAME. We crown the King, cause WE "Loved Him Most Of All". Now, we know the King is G-O-N-E, but his feelings, still the same, cause WE know He's SINGIN', somewhere, where the curtain never c-l-o-s-e.
Rock and Roll Heaven '92 ADDED: " Elvis Loved Us Tender".
Rock n' Roll Heaven (songwriter) - singer; Alan O'Day at the Talking Stick 6-11-2011; WITH ELVIS IN THE HOUSE, AGAIN. THE CROWD IS GOING "W-I-L-D"!
Rock & Roll Heaven UPDATED; 3-1-2012 Lyric has more Rockers named and many PICTURES of those who passed BUT Alan O'Day and his friends that are Songwriters are TRYING HARD to get THEIR NAMES added in Rock & Roll Heaven.
Rock and Roll Heaven UPDATED in 2016. (5 years ago, viewed 46 K)
ROCK & ROLL HEAVEN 2019-UPDATED; tribute with Elvis.
Keep going on youtube UNDER these UPDATES and PUT DOWN your Rockers you want into Rock N' Roll Heaven. It "HELPS" songwriter Alan O'Day and his songwriting friends to keep up with all these Rockers passing SOOOOOOOO FAST, they can't keep up with the Lyrics.
P.S. Incase you are "WONDERING" about Tex Ritter's 1962 song; "I Dreamed of a Hillbilly Heaven"; DOLLY PARTON RE-WROTE IT WITH "OUR" ELVIS IN THERE. ROY ROGERS performed and wrote; "COWBOYS HEAVEN" with Dale Evens being the only female in his song. OH! They are pictures WITH THEIR FAMOUS "HORSES" ALSO :) :) :) :) I haven't heard of anything called: Gospel Singer's Heaven? ? FANS? START ONE! I don't "know" of any Gospel song writers. . .give a SHOUT OUT here on youtube or other tech devices. TCB with TLC :) :)
Lyrics are so touching!💖
You also have to remember that they likely knew and were friends with at least some of these artists, if not all of them.
"WE JUST DISAGREE" by Dave Mason. Midnight Special has a good performance.
Oh that’s a good one!!
I have loved that song for so many years! "There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy-- there's only you and me and we just disagree"! Wooo eee!
Those guys were fabulous. That is a great pop song, great hook, moving tribute. I’m glad to see you appreciate it so much!
live forever my friend keep it real and alive! Play this at my funeral!
It's always interesting to see these performers update song as time passes. I think they updated this one before Bobby died with some more who had passed. I know Barry McGuire did it with his song Eve of Destruction too about 20 years ago or so.
Love this song.
They look so different than their 60;s look. Almost younger. Love that 70’s background, about to give me vertigo!
Thank You Jamal for all of your reaction videos. You enjoy the music and bring that joy to us. This song is one I heard when it was released and it is just a great now as then. Thank you again for your efforts. Your channel is far and away the BEST of all of the reaction videos.
SUMMER OF '74 THIS WAS THE SONG !
