Fun Fact : The MechaGoji design in here is an EXACT copy of the original poster of Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla 2. In the movie the Mecha didn't look like what the poster showed because the design was too detailed. But thanks to CGI in this movie, they managed to bring back what it could've looked like.

I've waited almost 20 years so see the Iron Giant again. And, although he didn't go total war machine beast mode like in the original movie, I was not disappointed.
I now realize that attack-mode Iron Giant would have just leveled the entire field. He had pulse cannons, graviton beams, laser beam vision, AND could completely regenerate even after taking a nuke to the face!!!
Well after all, aech's iron giant wasnt really completed so thats why he couldnt use it to its full extent

While I enjoyed what happened I was really expecting the Iron Giant and Gundam to double team Mechagodzilla.
Because that is what would happen but for some reason just.. didn't.

Thus the timer-limit, Ultraman can only manifest for a few minutes at a time while in Earth's polluted atmosphere, or without endangering the human host (risking burning the human host out).
Sadly, the licensing for *_Ultraman_* was too tangled to acquire, so the Gundam mecha was substituted instead, and Ultraman's *_'Beta Capsule'_* transformation device was replaced with a gauntlet (0:38). The warning timer-limit was kept, however. *;)*

That's what I didn't get, what is so convoluted about Ultraman's licensing? Obviously one party has the rights, are money not exchanging hands or the rights holder being greedy/difficult on purpose? What's the story?
@@jackylee5850-- Unlike the Godzilla franchise, which had far clear(er) lines of licensing, the Ultraman franchise was far more loose with its licensing across international borders. This allowed other countries to make use of the Ultraman license more broadly, and even co-produce Ultraman-series in-tandem with the Japanese studios.
Unfortunately, poor foresight in the licensing policy resulted in a tangle of legal disputes in burden of costs, ownership of a particular region's Ultra-franchise, content produced, and much more.
Today (in the 2020's), the Ultra-franchise has mostly returned to its original ownership of Tsuburaya Productions (since the early 2000's), which maintains are far more cautious/conservative grip on the Ultraman licensing.
So as said, while the producers of *[Ready Player One (2011) film]* wanted to use Ultraman, and Tsuburaya Productions was open to negotiations, it was too much of a legal & financial risk to do so, so ultimately it was safer to avoid the potential legal/licensing landmine, and replace Ultraman in this scene with Gundam.
So basically, Tsuburaya licensed out the IP originally without giving too much thought into it first, and before they knew it got away from them and turned into a giant legal mess of who owns what.
Eventually Tsuburaya managed to solve the issue and get the rights back (either by not choosing to renew the license or outright terminating it) but not all of it. And because of that they're far more cautious this time around and keeping it close to home to avoid another legal dispute
It almost sounds as if Tsuburaya don't have an accurate bookkeeping records. They're suppose to have a complete record of who brought a license from them, so these groups can be tracked down correctly for negotiations. It's either sloppy work on their part or they can't be bothered to do the legwork to find out who's who and get the talks going
According to wikipedia, it was Spielberg's reputation on the world stage that allowed him to get the rights of so many different IPs, most of them just gave it to him out of respect. I don't doubt Tsuburaya would have done the same under normal circumstances, but I guess they just can't take the chance that one of their license holder would care less about Spielberg's reputation and throw a hissy fit over this

The only reason (and I mean ONLY) I watched this film was because I knew Gundam was gonna be in it. It looked amazing and unfortunately they didn’t show too much of it in the final fight (where my beam rifle at?). Still, I was overjoyed that some light was shed on one of my favorite animes in a western movie.
from discussions, the RX78 did not have beam rifle and and can only be accessed with a time limited item is because its gonna be too pwerful.
Similar reason here. For Iron Giant though. Still, wasn't disappointed and loved the movie in it's entirety.

Tbh, I see why they wanted ultra man in the first place to fight against Godzilla. The point is that gundam is a suit than a being while ultra man had limited time when transforming into one and the beeping noise to signal the time is less than a few seconds just fits more into that character. I am not a gundam fan but I respect the anime however I just feel that ultra man fits way better in this scene

Fun fact: in the book Daito was actually killed close to around act 2. His real life person was attacked and killed by ioi and it set the stakes for just how serious the hunt for the key was getting. In the movie they instead had him fearful and sit out the time he was dead in the books, instead replacing Wade becoming ultraman with Daito becoming the rx-78-2

There’s a RUclips post on how this movie could’ve been changed and one of favorite ideas was instead of mechagodzilla it was the attack mode iron giant. Then the team works to dent the iron giants head turning him into the friendly character he is defeating Sorrento. I think it would’ve showed the love the characters have for the culture and Sorrento lack there of being the reason they succeed is so satisfying
pretty sure the y used mechagodzilla because that's how it was in the book. Yet again, they also used Voltron in the book instead of Gundam but I imagine they couldn't get the rights
