“ don’t buy it”
*Me waiting for it to arrive*
@eggs are beautiful I got the go on Amazon, I didn’t know it was that tiny and on top of that I get weird screen spasms here and there :( . How’s the 3?
@eggs are beautiful yeah the Go does have a lot of downsides. I got mine in gold because it looked aesthetically pleasing , maybe I should have gotten the 3 after all
Same
@@kofibonsu8466 oh is it I ordered the go laptop and it’s comming on the 27th do u still prefer the 3 over the go
And also how is the 3 going is it still running good
The base spec is literally just so they can say "from $549"
Exactly
Just like how cars are lol, I sell Kias and our Sorento says “from $25,999” but good luck finding one under $30k lol
Same with the base iPad.
@@jpf1978 the issue is the RAM. you may be fine, bit it all depends on what your use case is
Let's call it the "Marketing Spec"
Austin: dont buy a surface laptop
Me watching this on my surface go: *i understand*
Yea
is it worth it?
Lol same
@@saintnick6000 yh to some extent. I mainly use it for work and works perfectly fine. I feel as though its not enough storage but i have a external hard drive and onedrive so it wont matter. Overall its good for work heck i can even use ps now on it.

Ive had the original lowest configuration Surface Go for almost a year now. In Australia with the Keyboard it's $800. (not very budget) Despite this the portability and detable keyboard has been amazing for me as a University student.
The base model is much more powerful than people think. I even edited video on it.
Base version go 1 or base version go 2? Because the 1 has a built in keyboard and he wasn't referring to the 2
Mine just broke today 😭 I loved my surface go and didn’t want to upgrade to the 2 or 3 but now I need a computer.
@@HeirofaNigerianPrince how long did it work before breaking?
Can we just say this does not have keyboard backlighting?
I would've bought this instantly if it had backlit keyboard
At this price point what do you expect

I found Ken be more logical and realistic than holy austin.
Ken articulated Austin's thoughts in a better way, in usual Ken style
It's called balance. Their personalities balance each other.
Totally agree. Pricing is not all about specs alone, things like form factor, brand name and R&D cost all play into the final cost. Why are Apple products so expensive for an apple to apple comparison of a similarly specs product of the same category
He's dressed like logic
@@shirrkay263 but if you buy this laptop considering that there are many other laptops with the same form factor and more performance and everything else you mentioned for a lower price, you're straight up dumb...
The MOST honest and helpful review. Thanks guys!
But I wanna buy one🥺😭
Get it if you want but avoid the base model.
Do(nt)
Don’t you can get something better at that price if you look for it
Get yourself a nice Lenovo laptop that has ryzen 5 instead.
They have laptops that’ll blow the “Surface go”
Straight out of the water for the same price
@@JeremyN2DP Ugh lenovos keyboards are horrendous and even on their high end "premium" devices there is deck flex
Austin: don't buy this laptop
Ken: * buys the laptop *
What pulled my hand on the Surface Go was that I can draw on it. I needed a 2-in-1, and research yielded no better results for a laptop that could draw in my budget then the Go. That said, 4gb of RAM is, in fact, too little.
7:37 "Surfaceable" 😂
I do agree the mid performer is the device for the most bang for your buck. That is the device I went with. I needed a secondary device for work and one that wasn't going to cost 1k. I definitely am a fan of the build quality and I would have gone with a higher res screen over a lower res touch screen. On a laptop, I just don't use the touch screen, I much prefer the touchpad and keyboard functionality more when it comes to a laptop.
Ken : what cooling solution and then looks for one.
Nice to watch you guys discussing about tech.👌
Haven't seen Ken in a while. Starting to look good bro. Been lifting?
Ken Bolido am glad to see you will be chilling around here.
This is very much a case of form over function, especially at the entry level. and it will sell because of that. MS are relying on the average person that will walk into a store and will buy the one that feels the nicest. why else does the surface have that racy alcantara keyboard?
In a way isn't that ok? Maybe for somebody who doesn't really need a powerhouse and needs a good-looking laptop for cheaper than their current machine. It makes sense in some ways, absolutely not for me, but I'm sure there are a lot of people for whom this makes sense.
@@swaroopajit I mean, many people only buy Macbooks for clout so....
@@swaroopajit totally, I don't blame Microsoft, or anyone else, for making and selling products like that. It just means that the rest of us have to pay attention when shopping
I attend a Community College and I still see the 11in Pre-Retina MacBook Airs 2011-2017 often at my school. This new Surface Laptop GO is definitely for these type of College students I see around who like a small-compact laptop but don’t want a Tablet+KeyboardCase.
I personally love this MS Surface LT GO very much, U know let's say if (at home) can have a (consided 4 game & all) HP all in 1 attached with wide curved display (as its included already)+B&O sound (as its included already)+2080ti (includedas its included already)+wireless charging (as its included already)=everything perfect or MS's 1(considered 4 design & all)=Surface Studio at home then when (going out) just a MS phone/Google Pixel phone/iPhone & this Surface LT GO, well what can be better than that as now all use Macbook-air+iPhone are just same case.
Can you make a video about small budget laptops? Like the ones you mentioned earlier in the video, but with smaller form-factor like the SurfaceGo2...
Literally watching this on my new Surface Laptop Go. Did what you said and bought the midspec.
Same! Bought the midspec. This thing is beautiful and compact. In my opinion, the screen (with thin bezels) is very pleasant to the eyes and is also beautiful. The size/form factor is perfect. I just wish they had a backlit keyboard 😭😭
I'm just going to use this for web browsing, Google Docs, Sheets, Email, RUclips, etc. nothing big.
@@PalmTree26 Yeah I honestly don't know why they didn't include a backlit keyboard. They keys are practically the same as the ones on the Laptop 3. Plus I have a couple of contacts in the industry and do you know how much it costs to put in a backlight? Literally around $20 then another $10 in the keys. I'd gladly pay an extra $50 for backlit keys.
@@PalmTree26 How far can you tilt the display to the back? all the way to lay it flat at 180 degree angle like the surface laptop 3?
My intention is to use it with a pen and write on it for a bit longer.
@@PalmTree26
How’s it going with your surface laptop go? Experienced any issue since then?
You sold me… it’ll be here in three days😪
Could you do a review on the Panasonic toughpad? I need something I can use on the job site that can run windows files. I don’t really want to buy one if they’re junk.
I honestly feel happier with my spec'd out Surface Go 2 (Core M3 8GB RAM and keyboard) than I would with something like this. Because the SG2 has Windows Hello, 1080p webcam, Surface Pen compatibility, a rear cam (yes, I do use one) - whereas the Laptop Go doesn't have any of those specs. Especially if you only plan to use it as a productivity device, it's better. I think the most important thing about the Laptop Go is that it apparently has a better battery life than the Surface Go 2. But otherwise, it's not as attractive a product.
I have the SG2 with LTE in the exact configuration you're talking about. I don't 'go' anywhere without it. I use a 512GB SD card to store a ton of movies and things I download from places like Netflix and I couldn't be happier (especially with the camera and mic quality).
Unless yall need to upgrade laptops immediately, you should always wait for black friday. Back in 2018 I purchased an i7 8th gen laptop with 8gigs for $500 (plus tax). And there were a lot of i5 for a similar price as well.
my preference is 1) surface laptop 4 (currently waiting, hopefully it will a thunderbot 3), 2) surface pro 8 (if battery is bigger and bezel is thinner) and 3) surface laptop go.
Watching on my mom's Mac. Great video.👍
I got an Acer Aspire 3 late last year for £300 (not bothered to check the American price) it has a 1TB hard drive, 8GB RAM and a dual core i3 (7th gen), I feel like I got a decent deal comparing the specs to other options but the only bad thing is the Hard Drive I guess, but I’m sharing this with my mum and sister for work and school, so I feel like the big storage instead of the fast storage was a better option.
You guys should make a video about the best monitors for next gen consoles
Ya, working at Best Buy, never allow a costumer to experience less than 8gb of RAM in 2020 let alone five years ago.
went to see Surface laptop Go last week and I think the biggest problem is the keyboard is tooooo small, and I don't even have massive hand and I'm finding I almost mistype keys many times.
My gfs surface book 1 literally thermal shutdowns from standard work (office+video call+tabs). They underbuilt their cooling solution and didn't design it to be opened up easily for us to try to fix that problem. Unless your getting a tablet just to draw or take notes surface computers are a permanent no go. You'd be better off getting a 2in1 from Dell, hp, Lenovo, etc.
So just like I guessed: It's ok for a cheap laptop except it isn't a cheap laptop.
And it's bad
take this from someone who's used it for 3 years now

“Don’t buy the Surface Laptop Go!”
*“YOU’RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!!!!!”*
I just want a new laptop to do college work on the go... i think I’ll give it a shot.
I recommend you spend the extra money and get a Lenovo flex or yoga y720 or a surface laptop 2/3 out right itll last you much longer
It's base specs are overall pointless, the Ram is useless, windows update alone will eventually probably bloat out the hard drive, the i5 is the only think that makes it usable. really no devices should be sold with less that 128gb storage hell even 256gb I argue should be the minimum.
On sale i got my Lenovo Flex 5 2-1 for 600$ with 16 gigs of ram, a 10th gen i5, and 512 gigs of storage. That's a better deal than any surface laptop, but when its not on sale it is 730$ tho
Can you lay the display flat on the table? to write on the display without wobbeling.
Great review. You fail to mention it weights just a mere 1.1KG.... really light! Most laptops are at least 1.5KG.
For $699 i just bought Asus vivobook flip 14 like last week and if i compare to this this is No go. My Asus laptop have Ryzen 4700U, 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD and Aluminum body + its convertible touch screen and stylus included as well. It feel premium the only corner they cut is screen its not the most color accurate display but i am so happy about it. Its soo good and its really fast. If you are looking at this surface laptop then check Asus vivobook flip 14 laptop as well just that it will be out of stock always because its in high demand.
kenbolido's glasses are looking fresh today 👌
OMG, i expected it to be better. There's no reason to not have an 128gb ssd on base model.
so if i was debating on this mid grade level or the laptop 3 with same hardware in the 13.5 size... should i get the 3? or this? (only using for web browsing, youtube, netflix)
Guys, it's obviously a very hard sell, but why are you comparing it to 15"+ heavy laptops with poor battery life?
cheap 15inch laptops are always garbage. They should take 8/256 model and compare it to macbook air/ dell xps / razer book etc
I am actually really interested in the mid tier model for my teenager who needs a laptop for school. If I could make Microsoft change one thing I would honestly want them to drop the Surface connector for another USB-C or USB-A port, its time for them to move on past that port. I am honestly wondering what the performance of the Surface Laptop Go measures against the MacBook Pro 13 (or Air).
I just bought one of these.. black friday 8gb 128gb version for 549. Really good laptop.. if it yoga'd it would be ideal. Id also say for what most people use these laptops for.. watching youtube/netflix/email/normal school stuff and buying stuff on Amazon the 4gb model would be fine.
Just bought the $699 version which is 8 GB ,i5 processor 128 Gb and only need it for Microsoft word ,excel ,,would anyone recommend me keep or returning it?
The 700 dollar one should have been 550. Hope they finally make a 15inch surface laptop with specs above the MacBook Pro 16.
i just bought the highest spec version of it on sale for something in the 550-600 range and i like it more than my macbook pro it replaced surprisingly! i can definitely see how this would not be nearly as great at the lower specs tho.
they should have made the base model with a Ryzen 3 128GB ssd and 8 gigs of ram and watch them fly off shelves at 600 bucks
@Prakhar Singh you're never gonna game on that small of a laptop. The multitasking power of the Ryzen would be quite beast in working.
The product cycle of these devices means it'll take 9-12 months for Microsoft to get it to market. Going w AMD means Microsoft has to redo the entire motherboard. And it'll be 2 separate product lines.
They have Lenovo laptops that have ryzen 5 and 225ssd with 8 gigs of ram for like 580$
I’d just get one of those instead
@Prakhar Singh for what tasks? Intel still has a lead in single threaded tasks like gaming, but ryzen takes the cake with anything else.
@@RandomnessCreates video games brainwash you
I got a $400 MacBook Air used with an i7, 8GB ram and a 128gn ssd. The best part, it hasn’t crashed or blue screened.
Lol boi macbooks dont get "blue screen". It doesnt run windows dummy
Do you have any recommendations for laptops that do not not get warm? I'm still looking for that..
Love the Surface Laptop go. The 8/128 unit is on sale lots of places between 600-650. Don't know what it is about this little PC but I love it. For an everyday user the Laptop go is ideal.
Gonna convince my parents that i need this for school, its half true. I could get way cheaper, but i love microsoft products even though they're very expensive.
Hey, I've resently ordered a reconditioned surface go and was wondering how yours is holding up after a year? Thank you 😊
I was looking at getting a surface pro and happened upon this at the store and it was exactly what I was looking for. The surface go was too small, and the surface laptop was slightly too big. This was my goldilocks perfect bed. It's portable, quick enough for my use, and I can upgrade the ssd myself at some point. What's not to like.
Can you tell how was your experience in these nine months? Thank you
I doubt Microsoft can allow you to upgrade that ssd off the shelf
@@kenbee1957 you can but you have to remove the rubbers. No big deal tho
Microsoft should have made this flip around with a 360° hinge.
That doesn’t make sense for them, and would affect their tablet and book market that’s the same reason MacBooks don’t even come touch screen
@@marcosmartinez3411 Why? Microsoft makes the Surface tablets already and the Surface Book. Lots of manufacturers make Windows devices with 360° hinges that are laptops first and tablets second. I had a Lenovo Yoga device that worked this way. If Lenovo, Dell, HP, and Acer can make devices like this, why not Microsoft? This laptop already has a touchscreen, it's just in the most awkward position possible.
This isn't about cannibalizing anything. It's about giving customers a better way to interact with the touchscreen while still having a real laptop instead of a tablet with a keyboard cover attached to it.
@@danieldougan269 so this isn’t how they think however. And this is from someone that’s worked with Microsoft and Apple retail managers, the thinking for them is if you want something touch screen or have the versatility of a tablet you go get their tablets or iPads respectively. To them having the ability to flip it and turn it into a tablet per say is not something they want to cannibalize sales. They make way more money on their tablets. And yes I have had customers that said well my laptop can flip so why get a tablet. As long as they have tablets they will never have a surface or MacBook that works like a Lenovo Yoga to use your example. I can promise you a regular way of selling them that they tell us to use is, if you want a touch screen tablet that is tablet first laptop second, get a surface pro. If you want a standard laptop experience and the power but still have a touch screen get the surface laptop, if you want the versatility of a tablet but the power of the laptop then get the surface book which is why they are priced way higher. That I’ve been told that’s the reason a surface laptop will never get the 360 hinge.
@@danieldougan269 it's a laptop and it doesn't work with the pen. Sure it's touch, but no digitizer that works with ntrig
I just wanna know kens skincare routine. Damn.
Magnesium? Waw I’m impressed
Microsoft support (Chat) said me there's face recognition on all models of surface laptop go.....how?
What is the performance going to be like once you move it our of S-Mode for the middle config option 8gb 128SSD. Has anyone tried or done this yet and how is it performing? I’m seriously thinking about it I wouldn’t be editing videos or anything like that just Zoom, Excel, Word, etc.
Hmmm Microsoft discovering they have to price things similarly to Apple because they have to R and D their own software and hardware in tandem?
Yeah, Austin is way to into high en laptops, for students or elder family members this is great, Ken gets it
In Mauritius that laptop mid spec 128GB cost around rs42000 $1000 where as the 256GB cost rs 45000 $1075 everything has a 15% tax + profit
Here's why I'm impressed; Minecraft update 1.18 adds massive rendering and terrain generation requirements, which strains a laptop more. The Surface Go not only runs the new update at 60 FPS, but will tolerate medium graphics settings, and a mid-low render distance. You can even have Spotify open in the background. For $500.
but i want to know if i can replace the drive, Thats my main concern.
Thumbs up for watching RoosterTeeth Podcast at 4:13 ! I would buy one if it comes with facial recognition and thunderbolt 3, but I guess I can get the Surface laptop at that point....
Since you said to not buy the base model, now i am thinking to get my surface go 2 with intel core m3 and 128 ssd
How do you think the full spec'ed model compare to base macbook air 2020? They use the same 8/256GB model with 100$ cheaper.
Surface laptop 3 is having heating issues and a continuous faint static sound where the vent is. There are 100’s of laptops across the world having the same issue. Im still having the form on microsoft still going with complaints.
Crazy to think that when it’s ‘fully’ specked out it is getting really close to the m1 macbook air money so I don’t think it’s better then the m1 macbook
The lack of a backlit keyboard would be a deal breaker for me.
can we upgrade the ssd tho ?
I would prefer if the windows surface is not premium quality build but with 128Gb storage and 8Gb ram
People don't understand the resolution on this laptop is fine. Imagine they started with an aspect ratio 16:9 screen with a 1920x1080 resolution and they cut out the sides of the screen toget an aspect ratio 3:2. What you end up with is a resolution of 1534 x1024.
But questionable conclusions are the internet's favorite type of conclusion to base arguments on...
As someone who works at Staples you can buy a 15.6 inch Lenovo IdeaPad with 16GB of ram, 512GB SSD, and i7 for around the same price literally every other week. Idk why people cant do their research. Backlit keyboard, not a lot of flex, and 1080p. Almost bought that over my MacBook Air.
The problem is that it's 15.6 inch. That's unacceptable I want a 12 inch I can't believe how hard it is to find a 12 inch high quality laptop.
The screen res at 1024p isn't bad, quite a lot better than other cheap laptops with 15" screens at 768p
@Iqbal Muhammad If you look close enough, you can see it on the laptop go, but it's still a very good resolution for the size screen that it is. It's premium in some of the wrong places.
What is your opinion between surface go 2 gold vs surface go 2 m3 both 8gb ram what you will choose
So, I bought a MacBook Air, and then I returned it because for some reason I thought it was touch screen, ik I am so dumb. But, it's not, I need a touch screen device for school to write on some assignments using Kami and so I was initially going to buy a Surface Laptop 3 black, but then this surface laptop go was released. So I currently have a laptop go ( - Sandstone, Intel Core i5, 8GB, 256GB
), and I bought it during the pre-sale. When it first arrived at my house it wasn't charged so, I thought that was a bit strange because usually most of the devices I've ever bought come charged..Okay, oh well I said no biggie but now I am constantly facing screen issues and my fingerprint sensor thing doesn't light up to work at times. I don't know why it acts like this but, it's so annoying like even as I am writing this, my laptop keeps getting a black screen or it's just glitchy. Also, the fan is loud and I don't have a lot of applications running in the background so, IDK why it's like this. Other issues include battery life, it's not great for an online high school student, I have an 8 hour school day plus hours after school for homework that's---ONLINE, and this laptop makes WEIRD noises, gosh I can list on but if these issues could be fixed I would love this laptop. So, my question is, where can I go for help or what can I do to fix these issues. I've never dropped it or whatsoever, so IDK why this is happening. Even though my MacBook air was not touchscreen, I miss it more than this because it didn't have these issues ;(((((((((((.
I made 4 indie games on the surface laptop and its perfect for coding, gaming, and photo editing. I went safe and stayed with the 64gb
for me I'd say this is still the most worth the money in its price range (for most business and student).
Because it has the best trackpad, best display, best keyboard, and most importantly best speaker and webcam while most other laptop definitely fails in this catagory. If you're a gamer this not for you but i only games on pc. Laptop for business and light work.
This laptop can we used to play videogames?
Now the 8gb 128 g is $550. I love mine. That 2:3 aspect ratio is wild. Like having a 13.3 inch MacBook air at half the price... Yes with some compromises. But it is a portable productivity beast. The keyboard and track pad are awesome
How is it now? I’m thinking of getting one because they are even cheaper now. The size and design are so nice. It’s like a macbook 12 inch without backlit keys
@@fightnight14 it's going great. I keep it on max battery saver and it runs anything. I also turn the screen down to 60 when working indoors. I get about 8 hours battery doing that. I got it in Oct 2021 and i have seen some battery life decrease but maybe an hour. I charge it up at home and then take it work so the charger stays home. Yeah the track pad and keyboard are still fantastic. Glad you can get a better price. Not having a back lit keyboard is not a deal breaker for me for the price.
Damn I was really thinking about buying this til rn
I would still buy it though. It's a good laptop. No big deal.
