This is sooo tight, and MUST be perfect for his pre programmed hits not to get off the rythm, if he misses one, it messes up the whole composition.. he's unreal
One of the most impressive parts starts around 3:15 his left foot work is unreal, plays that clave while still controlling the hi-hat. Incredibly difficult.
happens when people are too close-minded about music and compare musicians of different styles which doesnt even make sense. every musician is best at what they do not at what others do
@drummernezzy I agree, I love Peart and I'm 17. He certainly inspired me to try to take my playing to the next level. But Akira is TRULY on another level.
@ilamborguini there are triggers on each tom, the snare, and the kick. the clave and pedal is next to the hihat pedal u can clearly see the red blocky thing near the floor next to the hat
@MinusTheDivide Yeah on his video before independence "Pulse" he was going through different prototypes of snares that he would want as his signature snare.
@drummernezzy Yeah blame the camera for that one. I've gotten a lot better but I can't find the cable to load the video from camera to compy so I'm waiting. Of course good for me isn't always considered good to other players, but I'm happy with my progress. However I'll never be able to play this good haha.
@MinusTheDivide Travis Barker is a great drummer for his style. He wouldn't stand a chance against flexible drummers like this guy, Neil Peart, Thomas Lang, Chad Szeliga, Mike Johnston, and Dave Weckyl. His chops are specific to punk and post hardcore alternative stuff.
@treyguy09 George "Spanky" McCurdy is influenced by Akira Jimbo.And Remember Spanky has influences too...and most of his stuff comes from Chris "Daddy" Dave Any ways this video was recorded in 1997...pretty ahead of it's time if I say so myself :)
I don't think so, you can see him do it. He's doing it, playing the clave on the block with his heel, and the high hat with his toe. Watch it carefully, and you'll see what I mean. Unless I misunderstood what you were saying :D
@theinoffkid Ummmm what? I'm a HUGE Akira Jimbo fan (I owe all his videos and Casiopea and Jimsaku albums) but JoJo and Akira are 2 totally different styles and as far as technique and ideas go JoJo really has AJ beat. For 4 way independence Akira wins in that though.
Uh, you better tap the brakes on that one too, bro! You need to check out Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree fame. He's certainly in the same zip code as Weckl. In fact, he taught seminars at Weckl's drum camp in Cleveland last year. A certified badass. Just like Weckl, Colauita and, yes, Jimbo.
@MinusTheDivide I don't think I've ever heard him play anything complex. Most of his stuff is extremely boring to me. The most complex thing I think I've ever heard him do was a half time shuffle. I'll give it to him he keeps good time which is key for a drummer but I'm not impressed with anything else he does. Steve Smith is great and that's because he put in a lot of work and studied under really great teachers. Don't see Travis doing that. Even in 1980 SS was more interesting than TB IMO.
Travis Barker is just pure noise alright! What so big about him? Who cant do what he does? Travis cant do 1/4 of what Akira can do. Travis is the kind of drummer that cracks cymbals and break skins thats all. Akira Jimbo makes love th his drums as we can all see and hear. Now go to a travis clip and compare. Again who cant do what Travis do?
Maybe both need a lesson from each other. To make the ultimate drumming style! The better thing would be if they decide to make a video, so we can enjoy some sick grooves!
put travis barker on akira's set he wont be able to play his songs and vice versa blindly stating who is better because what someone think is "better" is lame
This is sooo tight, and MUST be perfect for his pre programmed hits not to get off the rythm, if he misses one, it messes up the whole composition.. he's unreal
his rudiments and licks are so clean its ridiculous!!! thumbs up if you agree!
One of the most impressive parts starts around 3:15 his left foot work is unreal, plays that clave while still controlling the hi-hat. Incredibly difficult.
Absolutely amazing. Blessings. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up.
The mans has the unique style & technique...bravo!!!
Once Musician, One Instrument, Akira Jimbo
the best ever!!!
mesmerized for the whole 8 mins.. cant stop watching the awesomeness
happens when people are too close-minded about music and compare musicians of different styles which doesnt even make sense. every musician is best at what they do not at what others do
that first groove is so funky!
jea, he kills it o.O!
And people say that men can't multitask..
@drummernezzy I agree, I love Peart and I'm 17. He certainly inspired me to try to take my playing to the next level. But Akira is TRULY on another level.
4:45-4:59. :)Sweet groove!! Nice cowbell details!
Everytime I hear that 17" crash cymbal, it makes me glad that I have one. Sounds beautiful.
no one can touch this man on set.
one of the first songs where i was following the rythm in 8 minutes with my head and feets, and i really loved it!:$
Crazy playing,I think both Jordison and Barker would gladly admit they are nothing compared to Akira
Jaw dropping syncopation!
@ilamborguini there are triggers on each tom, the snare, and the kick. the clave and pedal is next to the hihat pedal u can clearly see the red blocky thing near the floor next to the hat
long live AJ!!
insane drumming..
only a fool would give this a dislike
one man band.
神保さんの代わりはいくらでもいる。
ドラムマシーン…
That clave/cowbell left foot continues on unhindered throughout the entire drum solo @_@ Beast.
@cheeseman59 It's his signature snare from Yamaha
It's a 13x7 Beech Shell with Wood hoops.
but can he play we will rock you! (only joking) the man is a drumming legend!
Crazy!
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooooooooooo!!!!!!
@tjobrien323 Its the vest
HAHA love it dude, man I miss my vhs tape signed by him from a clinic in 2000. If someone ever finds it let me know please......
guys check out SPANKY another great drummer thats under appreciated i thought he was the best there ever was but this guy is nuts
@MinusTheDivide Yeah on his video before independence "Pulse" he was going through different prototypes of snares that he would want as his signature snare.
The Bruce Lee of percussion.
this guy brain is divided into four,so that his hands and legs coordinate perfectly
YEAH!!!!
I mean JoJo and Aaron Spears has done some shedding AJ has been busy in Asia from what I see though dunno when he'll hit the states again :/
Man...Travis Barking is cool, but there is room for everyone at the top, like Dave Weckl said...
@tjobrien323
its only mean that 2million are craps!!.. "the high qualities always in low quantities".
Why is he wearing a half pancho?
seriously
it's because the high quality no longer shown at radio show or mv in tv.......
I will never know Jimbo if my dad didn't show me his Casiopea CD....
@drummernezzy Yeah blame the camera for that one. I've gotten a lot better but I can't find the cable to load the video from camera to compy so I'm waiting. Of course good for me isn't always considered good to other players, but I'm happy with my progress. However I'll never be able to play this good haha.
WOW
@freakoutguitarsolo1 what's about mr. greb ?? what a groove master !
@MinusTheDivide Travis Barker is a great drummer for his style. He wouldn't stand a chance against flexible drummers like this guy, Neil Peart, Thomas Lang, Chad Szeliga, Mike Johnston, and Dave Weckyl. His chops are specific to punk and post hardcore alternative stuff.
wow..
Well, I got 1 limb down. Now to work on the other 3!!!
i think he have 4 cortex brain in his head
This guy needs no gimmicks (like stick tricks) to wow people.
Wow
@treyguy09 George "Spanky" McCurdy is influenced by Akira Jimbo.And Remember Spanky has influences too...and most of his stuff comes from Chris "Daddy" Dave
Any ways this video was recorded in 1997...pretty ahead of it's time if I say so myself :)
@Moog168 hahaha when i watched this vid i knew somehow Spanky got his chops from this guy the spacey electric tracks are definately identical.
this dislike on this must have been a mistake obviously.this just prog'd my world haha.but seriously this is amazing a lot of respect.
travis barker blah blah blah who cares? someone please tell me what snare he is using
I don't think so, you can see him do it. He's doing it, playing the clave on the block with his heel, and the high hat with his toe. Watch it carefully, and you'll see what I mean. Unless I misunderstood what you were saying :D
@DeeJayJive he's just a master at covering. I've seen him "mess up"
@theinoffkid Ummmm what?
I'm a HUGE Akira Jimbo fan (I owe all his videos and Casiopea and Jimsaku albums) but JoJo and Akira are 2 totally different styles and as far as technique and ideas go JoJo really has AJ beat. For 4 way independence Akira wins in that though.
@skater15153
Coulndt agree more...
@skater15153
It's beyond everyone. :(
@IverZC akira is definetly able to play travis songs....

One man drumline
@BurpleNurples777 Man I can't risk getting my youtube page taken down I'll have to try to find my metamorphosis vid somewhere lol
:D niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Uh, better tap the brakes on that one, bro!
@RORYgreen50 that's exactly what I thought lol
Travis Barker is just pure noise alright! What so big about him? Who cant do what he does? Travis cant do 1/4 of what Akira can do. No... look at 5:30ish
Maybe both need a lesson from each other. To make the ultimate drumming style! The better thing would be if they decide to make a video, so we can enjoy some sick grooves!
@tjobrien323 its called marketing
He is mathematically correct. But... no soul, too robotic...
Dumb comment.
I don't think Bruce Lee was Japanese.
JOJO MAYER NEEDS LESSONS FROM THIS GUY,,
very close-minded about music
That's not irony. You should know that most people are sheep and only like the things they are told to like.
Travis Barker is decent, but he doesn't hold a candle to Akira Jimbo, Dave Weckl, Jeff Porcaro etc.
travis is wayyy overrated but you cant give him that much shit he made it were he is for a reason
put travis barker on akira's set he wont be able to play his songs and vice versa
blindly stating who is better because what someone think is "better" is lame
@tjobrien323 yea serously, a crap load of misguided and undereducated kids all applauding to a bunch of uninterested clubbing while they skip this
dave grohl is better...
