I saw Akira Jimbo in the first clinic I ever attended as a youngster back in the late 90s. I was blown away. One funny story: the srum tech at the music shop (Cascio Interstate in New Berlin, WI) spent lots of time tuning Akira's snare drum prior to the clinic, only for Akira to literally immediately crank the lugs several additional turns to his liking. He tunes it like a marching snare!
This should be a required course for all drummers. Even if you don't learn his technique exactly, the focus on improvisation is extremely helpful. Just my .02
