    I've been training for 24 years myself and I don't think people realize how important these simple things are. Everyone seems so caught up in the latest "magic" guard or ashi entry.

    This is awesome - detail oriented, practical application, great combination of the theory and the physical technique- love it!

    Awesome!!..Gracie system tells us to keep the leg flat. Your method with the leg placement seems more effective! Thank you

      I am a Gracie JJ black belt. Straight leg when? Also there’s no rules in JJ - if it works do it. There’s always variations and very few hard n fast rules.

      @robwilliamsbjj8446 oh sorry...I meant your right leg...my gracie instructor & university videos suggest the leg your using to elbow escape is flat on the mat thats all..like you said there's always variations..definitely a new fan of your content..thank you.

      @@brianswift8579 if I’m using my leg/ knee to control his rate of travel across my belt it’s bent - so to straighten it on the floor from there in time is tricky. Plus I always like to have my toes touching the mat to use for traction / leverage . Try it a few ways under pressure in a roll and see which works best for you. There’s no right or wrong

    I love instructions which are reduced to the things most important. No countless details you cannot remember. Thanks for this video. One question still: if you get up after hitting the mat with the technical get up you have to come up with your face first with kind of abdominal crunch which makes you vulnerable to the kick of your opponent. How can I avoid this?

    • @robwilliamsbjj8446
      @robwilliamsbjj8446  22 дня назад +1

      Easy. You use your bottom leg to kick their knee to halt them so you can get up. I’ll do a video covering this tmw for you. Appreciate the feedback and I love finding solutions to problems and helping others on their journey.

      @@robwilliamsbjj8446 Yeah, like stop stuffing my fat face with all this food and actually get up like a man every morning to go to the gym.
      You got any insights in regards to that?

    Great example to show the mechanics and illustrate the concept. That being said, there was no side control pressure whatsoever.

      @robwilliamsbjj8446  23 дня назад +1

      Doesn’t really matter if there is - if my elbows insured the hip and you go to Mount the person underneath can slip out to your back. Frames and body position nullify most pressure - check out my side control defence / escaping videos for reference. If it didn’t work under pressure I wouldn’t bother showing it. The person underneath only feels pressure if their defences are poor. If you’d like another video demonstrating that I’m happy to.

    the most important move is pull guard and just stand up ;) . jiu jitsu doesn't work if you just stand up.
    also taido and capoeria have far better ways of getting up - not too big a fan of the "technical standup". it is extremely open and vulnerable to attacks and getting just smashed

      Everyone’s welcome to their opinion but 100 years of pressure testing proves it works. Also after a lifetime of martial arts and pressure testing all of them lots of street fights and challenges I’ve not once been hurt whilst doing it. Usually there’s a knee kick in the middle to maintain distance - many many Jiu Jitsu guys use it in the UFC … anyway I’m glad you have a solution to getting to your feet but in all the other arts I’d done over 20 years I’d never seen it.

      @robwilliamsbjj8446 the big problem w the "knee kick" is at the very most it is like a light tap since you are not able to use the very strong dynamic power of the hips and a solid connection w the ground. the reason why upkicks and ax etc kicks are so powerful from the ground is cause you have a solid base and you can utilize all the very strong muscles in a chain. but the "knee kick" in the tech standup is more so like a light tapping motion of the quads at most.
      if you take a look at other martial arts especially like taido and capoira, even though they are "on the ground" technically, they can generate a ton of force, momentum and INSANE angles w their kicks and getups which are far more dynamic and varied than a simple tech standup. it is a lot more rotational and powerful.
      the combination of stability, power, effective kinetic chain linking, and dynamic movement and crazy angles makes the getups and kicks more effective in my opinion and thus far safer to use if need be.

      @@rollinOnCode I can immediately tell you e not used it in real situations as it is very effective in stopping a person coming forwards. In the same way Jon Jones using a version standing and the Gracie’s used it constantly to great effect. Ti develop an effective kick or strike you do not have to rotate. Anyway - thank you for subscribing and I hope you enjoy the content

      @@rollinOnCode I’ll do a video showing the power possible …. But you’ll likely find fault in that too.

      @robwilliamsbjj8446 take a look at capoira and also taido- the taido is a little bit newer form of karate that came about since around 1950s but extremely dynamic and attacks in Insane ways and angles kind of similar to capoira. they have insanely strong attacks and kicks- not merely a tap or two.
      you can even try the boardbreak test to see how much power each one has alone. taido and capoira incorporate the WHOLE BODY and even more w lots of dynamic momentum not strictly a single quad contraction.
      the other big problem w the tech standup is it is very very linear and quite slow and predictable relative to the other ways capoira and taido show. taido is kind of similar to chinese dog and monkey kung fu in some ways.
      if that tech standup knee tap misses or fails in any way you are extremely vulnerable and slow to respond. you have to have a very dynamic getup unless you are grappling & in the clinch else there is high risk of getting hit.
