There is a powerful message in that video; respect your local libraries! 😉 So many times, when pedal builders start their story, there’s this line at the beginning “I went to the library, got me some books...”. Great video Josh, cheers m8!
That's so cool watching two guitar geeks who are super humble and in such appreciation of where they are, talking shop and passion. Oh and if Santa is watching, I need that reverb :)
One of the best things about your show is the way you pay homage to other pedals and pedal designers. This was wonderful stuff, Josh. Thanks and keep it coming!
It's great that you support all things "pedal", your passion and enthusiasm for effects has enhanced my perception for sure. If there is a community I'd be all proud and fuzzy to be a part of it would be the pedal community thanks to your contributions and insights. Perfect example of promoting with good neighborly inclusion. Thanks a ton! Justin
One thing I most appreciate about the JHS vlog is your unabashed, public appreciation for the achievements of *others* in your own field. This is rare and ironically, it drives things forward..."a rising tide raises all ships" and whatnot. I love the altruistic attitude where you set your ego aside and appreciate, and learn from, others in the pedal world. And you don't keep it a secret, but showcase it and encourage the entire community to learn and move ahead along with yourself. Bravo dudes!!! thanks for all that you do
David seems like such a great guy. I bought the his Drone Delay pedal. I can't wait to get it and I'm so happy to support his wonderful products. Same for JHS. I love Josh. He's such a great guy. Josh has great values and I hope to God he remains humble. May the Lord bless you all at JHS and Rainger FX. You all take great care of yourselves. Happy Holidays. Peace and love, folks.
I have one story about colorsound's tonebender. Back in 2013 I was 16 and just started playing guitar a year before that. I didn't have much knowledge about guitar effects at a time, how sound works etc. And also I'm from Russia so there was no way I could know anything about tonebender (I didn't really knew the difference between overdrive and fuzz as well). So I went to UK for a month to study English and decided to buy some guitar gear while I was in London. I went to Macari's, knowing nothing about it's legendary history and asked them to give me any good overdrive pedal to try. And they gave me yellow tonebender (which is definitely not overdrive, but I guess they knew better what I needed). I tried it and said something like "good,i guess, I will take it". And just after a few years passed I found out how great that thing really is. And just about a year or two ago I found out about Macari's history and about my luck that I got this stomp box (especially that it really was an accident)
Nice. I love how we guitarists manage to make all these chunks of wood and metal into such personal stories. :) I guess that's true of lots of things, but I'm a guitarist so naturally I think ours are better. ;)
I was actually in the shop (think it was Andy's?) looking at guitars I couldn't afford when David came in with his first Dr Freakenstein prototypes looking to sell them, I thought it was absolutely fantastic and so different to anything else available then. I should have bought one on the spot but was always skint in those days! Great to see the success he's having.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You! David Rainger is a pedal poet and to get to see him in an interview and learn more about his work is a valuable treat. I have the privilage to own his air traffic controler one of my favorite and inspiring pedals that gave me the ability to give musicality to the wind, roar like a wisper, make my guitar sing like a dying robot and more. Thanks David Rainger and thanks JHS.
Dude I absolutely love, love, love how you show other people's creations. Takes a man thats comfortable with his own artwork to be able to share someone else's. Class act bro!
I absolutely love your channel. Thank you for inspiring me to pursue electronics/pedals/amps. If it weren't for people like you, I'd probably have settled for making bombs for Northrup Grumman. Because you've shown me that there's a market for my skills and talents, I'm pursuing them.
Really excellent vid JHS - (stands and claps). I can't believe your vids (which I completely fluke started watching) are now something I wait for every week. They just keep getting better.
Thanks for another great vlog, Josh. Always informative, thought provoking, amusing and entertaining. What I particularly like is how positive, enthusiastic and supportive you are about other pedal builders, who are 'competitors' too. Top stuff!
Godamn I love your channel. If I was rich I’d buy all your pedals just to make you smile. You’re good people and you are inspiring a new generation of tinkerers. Thank you for bringing inspiration instead of advertising.
I love this so much. Do more of these with other pedal designers please. I love both listening to his story and listening to you gush like a giddy, love-struck teen. More of it please, much much more!
I love this video. I love David. I love his Igor concept (if those little buggers hold up and last, it may be one of the most brilliant ideas in effect pedals in years).Josh, that was a great interview!
This is why I love your videos. I've never seen another builder celebrate other builder's work like you do, with the exception of some luthiers. I really enjoy your videos.
I had never heard of Rainger FX until I saw a demo of his new Drone Rainger at NAMM this year, and now I need one. This was a great video, and it's amazing that it was put out by another pedal maker. Can you imagine Boss doing a quick documentary with Vemuram? On the flip side, when Josh started making pedals I wonder if he imagined it would take him to other countries to hang out with awesome people?
I recently discovered Rainger FX and instantly became obsessed. I was considering requesting JHS to do an episode featuring them, and then I found this. Of course Josh already thought of that! Thank you Josh for always knowing what your viewers want to know about, even if you knew if two and a half years before I realized I wanted to know about it!
This was a fantastic and intimate pass into Rainger FX. To have the ability to adhere the modulation pad right to your guitar and wob and throb and bleep opens up the possibilities to mad creativity. I also enjoyed the change-up with this episode’s format. Thanks JHS
This man is an absolute treasure to the world. Thank you for being you, David and it’s an honor to have met you and hung out with you a bit at namm. You deserve all the success in the world and thank you for inspiring people like myself. ❤️
Giving this video a thumbs up doesn't cut it. This was a fantastic inspiring and touching one. Been pretty much binge watching your channel over the last few days... its class! thanks.
Your videos convey your love for the subject matter so well that I can’t help but feel it myself by the end. Every video has this “looking at old photo albums with family” vibe that, frankly, kinda just makes me happy to be alive and able to make music...and that other people share the feeling and the excitement for it. I’m glad you introduced me to Mr. Rainger because now I can add him to my list of “greats”.
More like this! Great interview with a total innovator! It’s exciting to see pedal culture expanding like this. I think we’ll start seeing even more inovations and visionaries start to pop up faster and faster.
Thanks for posting this. David looks like a genuinely GREAT guy. I've always thought about getting a ECHO-X, after watching this I'm gonna buy it for sure.
I've just got Bleep (just before the Quaratine!), this guy is just pure gold, such as you JHS! got inspired by hearing you guys talking to each other with that passion about fuzzes, by the way I started noticing at 09:43 that the music was getting louder and finding it quiet good, great track, suits perfect for the interview!
Josh,as a pedal builder yourself.I think you should do more vids like this .To get into the mind set of other builders.Even maybe doing one of yourself.Fantastic!
I can't tell you how much I LOVE your channel !!! It's obvious you LOVE music & the creative process ! You are not just a honk for your product . You truly want to give the artist every sonic option to realize their vision . & for that you deserve complete love & respect !!!
I build pedals also. And so far in my journey I share the same parallels, like having a job that pays me for a lot of down time. Hopefully everything works out, as I have some really cool circuits I would like to share with the world. I really like this episode.
sprayscience how did you get started? I find diy pedals absolutely fascinating and would love to do some very simple stuff to see if I could wrap my head around it.
A great way to start is getting a kit. That's how I became addicted to it. Start with a simple build like a fuzz or a Big Muff like I did. If you like what you did then you can order lots of parts and start building clones or modifying existing circuits. Look for vero board layouts of existing circuits on the net. You will find ways to improve circuits and make them sound even better than the what the manufacturers offer you. Learn the electronics language, learn to read schematics. If you get addicted to it and it becomes crazy fun then you will learn quick. But I do warn you that it will take up a lot of your time. You will learn what it takes to build a pedal and appreciate the labor and time to build it. I hope this helps a little.@@HiGlowie
I went to a local shop in Minneapolis/St Paul looking for a new pedal and had a few in mind, as soon as the shop owner plugged in the Bleep Fuzz I knew I was walking out with that pedal! the look and sounds that thing creates have yet to cease to amaze me, it is inspiring everytime I step on that pedal and tweak 1 of the tiny knobs. Cheers David Rainger, and JHS for spotlighting another outstanding maker! . Next one should be about hometown hero's ZVEX!! Nothing like the FUZZ FACTORY
I really enjoy your topics and passion for effects...learned alot from you! Was passing thru Ft. Wayne earlier this week, stopped at Sweetwater and ended up with some new used gear. While checking out all the pedals I mentioned your name and the tech said you were just there! Searching...etc...and it blew me away...the world we live in today...
I've been wanting a lot of his pedals for a long time. I am glad you did this docu vídeo. It's really good, and I love learning more about the people that make all these amazing pedals we love. Thanks.
Another great video, about a really interesting fella I didn't know anything about. After a very long, difficult week at work this has really helped me unwind. Thanks Josh, and all the chaps at JHS. Please keep up the fantastic work, it makes a real difference.
David Rainger is one of the nicest, most patient, and most stoked pedal guys I've ever met. His pedals are inspiring to use and brilliantly made. Everyone should own one of his pedals. To me he's on the same level as Zachary Vex with his inventiveness.
This is the single greatest show about pedals ever. Thanks for being the best, JHS.
You're not wrong.
agree
A lot more value for the time spent on RUclips compared to the pedal show . I like both , but I prefer this a lot more.
Eh, you make a fair point but pedals and effects holds the crown IMO.
Schwing!
Wayne & Garth are back!
Party on!
Lol I know this is very late but this comment is brilliant!
But as for the shopkeeper and his son, that's a different story all together.
There is a powerful message in that video; respect your local libraries! 😉
So many times, when pedal builders start their story, there’s this line at the beginning “I went to the library, got me some books...”.
Great video Josh, cheers m8!
Support local 👍👍👍
I can understand your obsession with Rainger FX! Like no other, yet he gladly tells what circuits inspired his creations.
Nicely done documentary!
Josh Scott is the Tony Bourdain of guitar pedal journalism.

Holy shit this is far too accurate lmao
That's so cool watching two guitar geeks who are super humble and in such appreciation of where they are, talking shop and passion. Oh and if Santa is watching, I need that reverb :)
😊😊😊
One of my friends just started working there I'm so happy for him!!!
You can just feel his genuine passion for what he does
For real. It was so great getting to talk to him.
One of the best things about your show is the way you pay homage to other pedals and pedal designers. This was wonderful stuff, Josh. Thanks and keep it coming!

Fantastic!
Now thats cool. When your oblivious to how awesome something is, yet you think its great anyway, then find out its super dooper? Thats cool.
I'm not sure I've seen anything more gratifying than Josh Scott playing a PRS S2 Studio
That's awesome!
Wow Josh, if you didn't already run an amazing pedal company, you could have one of the coolest RUclips channels on the web! Oh wait.
Gotta love a man who is doing it for the right reasons. Nice little doco.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank You! David Rainger is a pedal poet and to get to see him in an interview and learn more about his work is a valuable treat. David is incredibly inspirational. Thank you Josh, for introducing him to us!
He seems like the most down-to-earth and humble person on the planet. What an amazing genius of a man! Thanks for making this!
So heartwarming to see two great minds meet. Bridging the big pond. You can just tell they will be now mates for life. Cheers.
Awesome interview! I've been a huge fan of RaingerFX for years, and it's so nice to see how down-to-earth and cool David is.
Dude I absolutely love, love, love how you show other people's creations. Takes a man thats comfortable with his own artwork to be able to share someone else's. Class act bro!
At this point this is the only show I even look forward to.
What a beautiful video! Thanks for this JHS!
Superb interview Josh, I really enjoyed that. What an interesting chap as well, he makes me proud to be be British :)
This guy is insanely cool... His own pioneer... Love it Josh!
I absolutely love your channel. Thank you for inspiring me to pursue electronics/pedals/amps. If it weren't for people like you, I'd probably have settled for making bombs for Northrup Grumman.
Because you've shown me that there's a market for my skills and talents, I'm pursuing them.

The 2 of you couldn't be more unlike, but so totally cool together!! Awesome video.
Omg!!! That colab-bender is so freaking amazing. Thanks, Josh, for bringing this to my attention. Great video as always.
I had occasion to exchange several e-mails with David for an article I was writing. An absolute gentleman.
Godamn I love your channel. If I was rich I’d buy all your pedals just to make you smile. You’re good people and you are inspiring a new generation of tinkerers. Thank you for bringing inspiration instead of advertising.
Dude has CLASSIC British hair. I love it. This video was a step above, great job JHS!
I love this so much. Do more of these with other pedal designers please. I love both listening to his story and listening to you gush like a giddy, love-struck teen. More of it please, much much more!
Great episode. Well done.

Josh - really dig this "pedal journalism"! Helps to understand the personality and the inspiration behind the technology. Good stuff.

I had no idea doing what I love would bring me here. It's surreal :-)

Thank you Josh for always knowing what your viewers want to know about, even if you knew if two and a half years before I realized I wanted to know about it!

great interview ...... loved it.
Amazing interview setting and ambience. Best show yet 👍
I coulda gone with a 30 minute episode on this guy! Feel free to post outtakes ;)
Very cool. I LOVE the Reverb X. Best pedal version gated verb out there by far.
brilliant show - just enjoyed spending time with you both thanks!
We need more guys like these!!!
Man, awesome interview. I’m obsessed with David’s stuff now... Pure, unbridled creativity. Super inspiring! Thanks gentlemen!

Lotta love for the Tone Bender! One of my dearest friends owns one and I can't help but play with it when I'm at his studio!
More like this! Great interview with a total innovator! It’s exciting to see pedal culture expanding like this. I think we’ll start seeing even more inovations and visionaries start to pop up faster and faster.
Man, you're great! The way you see other people's pedals... Brilliant! We're friends!!
Thanks for posting this. David looks like a genuinely GREAT guy. I've always thought about getting a ECHO-X, after watching this I'm gonna buy it for sure.
What a fantastic episode :) Thanks for that Josh!
Great video, man, really enjoyed it.
Thanks for this incredible segment! BTW, you handled today’s unpleasantness with unbelievable class. (I’m the guy who sent you pins).
So cool to put a face to these amazing pedals. Thank you so much for this Josh. Truly inspiring.

What a great expose of an artistic intellect. Both of you inspire me.
David is brilliant person and his work is outstanding, thank you Josh for this video...keep on!
Excellent video, sir. Definitely turned me on to someone I am not very familiar with but can’t wait to try some of his stuff.
Next one should be about hometown hero's ZVEX!! Nothing like the FUZZ FACTORY
His Drone Rainger is other worldly! It’s great to see Josh’s genuine fascination with another pedal builders designs.
That's beautiful!!! Happy Valentine's Day!!!
I really enjoy your topics and passion for effects...learned alot from you! Was passing thru Ft. Wayne earlier this week, stopped at Sweetwater and ended up with some new used gear. I used his reverb on a session once and it was amazing! Never got the name of the company but always loved the pedal and now I know!

Man, that's a ton of fun! Can't wait to try a RaingerFX!
@tubenshaft Wow, it is amazing! ruclips.net/video/Edfd7c9GwUs/видео.html
Just a Great Interview!
Love your commitment to the pedal community! ... and great great interview, this is almost like a documentary
David Rainger is one of the nicest, most patient, and most stoked pedal guys I've ever met. His pedals are inspiring to use and brilliantly made. Everyone should own one of his pedals. To me he's on the same level as Zachary Vex with his inventiveness.
Bad ass documentary. Nice job
