Thanks Michael I needed this today. I just found out my step mother is very sick and not expected to live long. She bought me my first transformer in 1984 and gave me a devastator set for christmas. I needed those memories today. You have a magical ability to bring me right back to being 8 years old and seeing these for the very first time.
Jetfire was the first Transformer I ever owned. Took me and my Dad a while to figure out how to transform him. Made a big impression when I brought him into class for show and tell.
Poor Skids. So over looked, you even covered him in this video, but I totally didn't notice until I looked back and saw he was indeed present. Story of his life.
This was simply brilliant! The clarity of every single shot was impeccable. Each bot looked brand new like just out of a package. Now the wait begins for 1986 EDITION!👍👍
I love your channel💕 I was 7 when Transformers came out and I was instantly hooked. I used to have almost all of these G1 Transformers. Nostalgic. Man where did the time go?😞
dear god these videos make me so happy and calm after feeling angry and pessimistic after watching the news thank you Michael for being a great person til all are one
1985 was a great year for Transformers with some new and fresh ideas. I loved Devastator and Astrotrain for the Decepticons. Then for the Autobots, it is Jetfire and Omega Supreme. It is hard to pass up a tank that doubles as a Christmas tree decoration.
Wow. We 1980s kids are lucky to have Michael Mercy putting this stuff together. Nobody does a better job of capturing the magic that these things brought to our childhoods.
Amazing, high quality video. What a great 30 minute watch! I especially love the fine details of weaving the various soundtrack themes in the background. Adds such a charming touch to the narrative. Makes me feel like I'm walking through a Disney-like theme park/museum. Keep up the outstanding work!
@Michael Mercy Thank you for compiling and producing this. I'm very aware of all the time and effort involved to produce and edit a video (Adobe Premiere Pro and photography time) like this. So I understand your blood, sweat and tears you put into each video you put out. This is the best and most comprehensive video for the subject. And thank you for not going over the top with the humor. Your level of humor is tolerable unlike a lot of other toy channels. Looking forward to seeing 1986 and 1987 Edition videos soon! (Transformers 1987 series is no joke to collect. lol The damn Targetmasters and Headmasters are not easy to find complete and near-mint/mint.)
Hey Michael, if you ever run out of show ideas, i think you can do a "versus" series. You can compare strengths and weaknesses of the combatants in a hypothetical battle. Win. lose. Draw. Add supporting battle footage from the cartoons and your own models. You will have more great content for us. Maybe take requests too. All the classics like metroplex vs tripticon, Megatron vs Optimus, bumblebee vs ravage(?).
This was a good year for me as a kid. My father bought me more than just 1 Transformer on the first year, Cliffjumper. Swoop and Kickback were the best
I just realized by the display I had a pretty good collection of the 85s. Lol. Hell in 86 I even had transformers that never hit the stores. We live in the state where hasbro HQ is. Kids used to go dumpster diving for transformers thrown out. Lmao
Great video!!! I am super impressed with this series of videos looking at the Transformers year by year. I wish you would do the same for Zoids. I owned both the Radio Shack Galactic Man and their version of the Zoid Mammoth. The problem with Galactic Man for me was after straightening out into gun mode, he would often go limp with the barrel slowly moving toward the ground, greatly reducing the threat level against evil siblings.
Jetfire/Skyfire was by far my most favorite transformer. While visiting family (lived in Florida and visited Maryland) he ended up snapping in half. Still haven't gotten over that. :(
Amazing video as always Michael! Thank you for the stroll down memory lane. I'm glad I was the right age to enjoy the G1 series. Such awesome figures, and the animated series was the best! Thank you for all you do for the collector community, and also the kid that is still alive and well in me. Nerdmasté my brother!
24:47 My Jetfire introduction was Armada, my best part of Jetfire was his Armada Voice by Scott McNeil, the Voice of Rattrap, Dinobot, Silverbolt and Waspinator in Beast Wars
I didn't have many transformers growing up. Three of mine are on here Grapple and two of the little guys up the front Beachcomber and Cosmos. They are still getting use today with my kids, although Grapple has had a hard life. Good times.
As a fan of the Robotech show that aired on my local network at the same time the Transformers series was airing, finding and buying Jetfire at Sears in '85 remains one of my lifes peak experiences. Difficult to find that kind of joy in adult success!
WOW! My brother......................................you did an excellent job on this and the 1984 version! Man I watched both with a HUGE smile on my face the entire time because it really put me back to a time when life was "great" (as a 9/10 year old when there was nothing in life that mattered other than getting home from school in time to watch transformers). Watching this also reminds me of a sad "situation". In 1994 when it was time for me to go to university I had a very nice transformer collection (which included my beloved Omega Supreme). My thought at the time was that I would keep them so that whenever I had a son, he will be able to see what his dad played with. Any way, after my first year of university, I came home to find that my mother "gave" my transformers away to a younger cousin. This person did not/could not appreciate MY TRANSFORMERS and he destroyed them! It seriously took me about 5 years to forgive my mother for this! Man, this really hurt me. But I am determined to get all of my transformers back and then some. If that collection is solely yours, all I can say is WOW! Again man, great job on the video and thank you for taking me back to a time when life was simple and marvelous!
Fabulous video! I'd love another one which covers the Transformers from the Movie and the series that followed- Hot Rod/ Rodimus Prime, Galvatron, Kup, Arcee, etc.
I wish I had some '80's Transformers figures to this day. I never owned any growing up. The only Transformers figures that I had were the ones from the '90's and the 2000's because I was born in 1988 and grew up in the '90's and the 2000's.
I just wanted to let you know, I've been a huge fan for years and have seen most of your videos more then once. Love your collection, love your work to inform the masses of the greatest decade ever in toy and cartoon history, and the passion you have for it. Keep up the great work.
This brings back so many good memories. I had collected almost the entire 85 lineup that year including all the mail away offers. Admittedly, I was also a S.T.A.R.S member. Give me some good old fashioned army men, Star Wars, GI Joe's, Transformers and there was no limits to where my imagination could take me.
What great childhood companions Hasbro distributed. Thanks Hasbro for a awesome family for an only child of single mother. I was able to create personalities in my head that lead to great empathy and maturity. You the Man Michael Mercy Channel. Too bad the live actions didn't flesh out old friends at all really.
Hello Michael and thank you for sharing this with us and I have to admit that it is great to go down memory lane and remember when I was a kid with this great cartoon , but of course we are all kids at heart today and for ever and as always nerdmaste 😊
I love the first wave but, for being a follow up, 1985 is a great year for transformers! Love these series your doing with gi joe and transformers. Keep up the great work!!
I had the blue Jumpstarter (Topspin) and even as a 9 year old, I knew the concept was kinda stupid and plain. But...you take whatever G1 TFs you could get. Yer not gonna say, "No mooooom, I don't want this Jumpstarter cuz it's LAME-O!" I even got a Go Bot from a family member (the motorbike guy, main character in the cartoon) and I was happy to get it. I just pretended it was an inferior TF.
I got Jetfire for Christmas one year, it was boxing day before my Dad and his friend had finished 'discovering' how to make it transform. It'll always be Jetfire to me.
Thank you Michael. This is my childhood. I had omega supreme, grimlock, skyfire and many more tf. I still collect tf to this day. Thanks again for the well thought out video.
1985 was an awesome year for Transformers! That year, I added the Constructicons, Tracks, Smokescreen, Jetfire, Warpath and Blitzwing to my collection! I also picked up a few issues of the Marvel comic series too! Plus, I couldn't wait to get home from school to see the cartoon! The local Fox affiliate would run G.I. Joe and The Transformers back-to-back every weekday afternoon! Good times from a great era of my life!
I’m 20 years old and I kinda was introduced to TF when the bay movies came out and went back and watched the G1 series. I try to steer clear of collecting these old 80s toy/cartoon franchises as I didn’t grow up in that era, but man this video just makes me realize how much I do love TF. Incredible video man! Can’t wait for the next one!
Great Video! brought back a lot of memories. I was an avid collector when I was a child and one day I came home and my mother gave away my toy collection. All the best toys I wonder who the lucked out on this treasure trove!
This video is awesome and hilarious! Also: I hope there will be a G1 Constructicon review and a G1 Megatron review. No rush! : ) Edit: thanks, Patrons!
I immediately recognized jet fire because of Robotech when my uncle brought all his transformers and Robotech toys out to show my brother and I. Still has em all
Still have my original (complete) Jetfire sitting on my desk in my house... granted, my wife has taken over the home office but hey, he's there! (Along with a G2 (yellow) Devistator and a few other odds and ends. Man, I miss the 80s! Just found your channel and I gotta say... thanks for the nostalgia trip!
This video is incredibly well done. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this. As of now I am loving the War for Cybertron Siege figures!
thanks to this Video I learned more about more characters that were G1 especially Downshift at first that name was new and used for both Energon and Cybertron, but now I realize he's actually a G1 Autobot too lo he was a Mail Order
that was their best year, ultra magnus, galvatron, sky lynx, metroplex, hotrod, trypticon, and all the scramble combiners to name a few of the figures we got
Wow, seeing this brought back a lot memories, since i had most of these. I loved shockwave, since the gun lighted up and made sounds. I also loved the cities...metroplex and trypticon. And my microscope, perceptor.
Wow! That image of McDonald's Commandrons brought back some memories. I had completely forgotten I had them. Thanks for bringing back a small piece of my childhood.
Sorry to hear that Robert. Glad the video brought some positivity. 🙏
It was a great time to grow up in the 80s
Jetfire was the first Transformer I ever owned. Took me and my Dad a while to figure out how to transform him. Made a big impression when I brought him into class for show and tell.
That's the most epic Show and Tell I've heard so far..
That's the most epic Show and Tell I've heard so far..
Jetfire was my first G1 transformer
My first was predaking
My first was Cheetor from Beast Wars, which I also brought to kindergarten show and tell
Poor Skids. So over looked, you even covered him in this video, but I totally didn't notice until I looked back and saw he was indeed present. Story of his life.
Haha that censored part of the Japanese version of Shockwave totally cracked me up! Great video! Love your channel
I love how you customized Red Alert with the red G2 head.
Tracks, Jetfire, Beachcomber... and the cartoon, man! Now _this_ is a good year for the series.
This was simply brilliant! The clarity of every single shot was impeccable. Each bot looked brand new like just out of a package. Now the wait begins for 1986 EDITION!👍👍
You are honestly the best when it comes to showing your collections and explaining the history behind them. Please keep up the good work. 😁👍🏾
Better than listening to my history teacher
1985 is probably when Transformers G1 was at it's peak!
Agreed
Thanks for making these great nostalgic videos Michael! I love your positive vibe and creativity in your videos!!!
I love your channel💕 I was 7 when Transformers came out and I was instantly hooked. I used to have almost all of these G1 Transformers. Nostalgic. Man where did the time go?😞
dear god these videos make me so happy and calm
after feeling angry and pessimistic after watching the news
thank you Michael for being a great person
til all are one

YESSSS!! Best year of the best toy line ever. 😍
Amazing work on this video....as always!
Excellent video! I didn't realize there were so many Autobots! I'd never even heard of those you could mail order!
thank you for taking me back to my childhood, you do a great job my friend.
I love how you literally swatted the Insecticons with a fly swatter! XD
Wow. We 1980s kids are lucky to have Michael Mercy putting this stuff together. Nobody does a better job of capturing the magic that these things brought to our childhoods.
I'll bet for 1986, the kid's gonna swap his father's camera with Reflector and have Galvatron stand-in for the gun.
Half right!
Great memories of 1985! I really enjoyed this video and being an adult Transformers fan.
Amazing, high quality video. What a great 30 minute watch! I especially love the fine details of weaving the various soundtrack themes in the background. Adds such a charming touch to the narrative. Makes me feel like I'm walking through a Disney-like theme park/museum. Keep up the outstanding work!
Shockwave is probably my favorite 85 decep. His card bio quote is, clarity of though before rashness of action.
I look forward to the video with the 3rd lineup of Transformers with Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime, Kup, Arcee, etc.
Who noticed the other 1980s franchise crossover, when Buzz-Off from Masters of the Universe looked in on the Insecticons! 😂😂😀😀
A great mix of all kinds of 1985 knowledge about the line.
I love your passion for Transformers. You have a unique ability to educate your audience on Transformers History. God bless you Michael Mercy.
Such a beautiful and comprehensive collection. Your video was hilarious and entertaining.
Omega Supreme was one of the only ones that I kept from the clutches of my Mom’s yard sales
Excellent Video. Your dedication to this franchise is very much appreciated. Keep up the great work!
These "History of" videos are OUTSTANDING!!
Hey Michael, if you ever run out of show ideas, i think you can do a "versus" series. You can compare strengths and weaknesses of the combatants in a hypothetical battle. Win. lose. Draw. Enjoy your review, my nostalgia for gen one transformers will never get old. Great work!
Thank you for putting out this video segment for the 1985 Transformers, Michael. I bought some of these in the forms of reissues a few years ago.
I'm like halfway through season 2 and it's amazing, my dad showed me the G1 Transformers and my life has changed ever since
That was my dad, he introduced me to Transformers and since then I have loved this series
My birthday from 1985 was Jetfire and Megatron. I was the happiest 6 year old. I still have Jetfire.
This was a good year for me as a kid. My father bought me more than just 1 Transformer on the first year, Cliffjumper. Swoop and Kickback were the best

I forgot just how awesome these guys are! Shockwaves head reminds me of ROM the Space Knight.
Thank you for your service in this excellent experience video. You are a historian of toy culture.
Jetfire/Skyfire was by far my most favorite transformer. While visiting family (lived in Florida and visited Maryland) he ended up snapping in half. Still haven't gotten over that. :(

That Blaster vs Soundwave fight was badass!
Wow! I completely forgot about the Jump Starters! They were very cool and fun to play with.
Fabulous video! I'd love another one which covers the Transformers from the Movie and the series that followed- Hot Rod/ Rodimus Prime, Galvatron, Kup, Arcee, etc.
You and Optimus swatting the Insecticons with a fly swatter is just gold
Starscream always getting beaten up by autobots and Megatron. Anyways awesome video!
Awesome video. Still have my transformers collection in storage. This takes me back. Wish I could display mine as hreat as you do.
I remember waiting so long for this and now it’s been three years since it released
I wish I had some '80's Transformers figures to this day. I never owned any growing up. The only Transformers figures that I had were the ones from the '90's and the 2000's because I was born in 1988 and grew up in the '90's and the 2000's.

Really great video, just like the 1984 version. Thank you for doing it, brought back a lot of memories. Looking forward to the 1986 episode.

In the UK comics Twin Twist, Topspin, Roadbuster and Whirl were part of the Wreckers along with the Autobot Triple Changers. Wreck and Rule!
Hello Michael and thank you for sharing this with us and I have to admit that it is great to go down memory lane and remember when I was a kid with this great cartoon , but of course we are all kids at heart today and for ever and as always nerdmaste 😊
Awesome video. It's funny, when I rekindled my love of G1 Transformers, I had NO MEMORY of Skids.
I love the first wave but, for being a follow up, 1985 is a great year for transformers! Love these series your doing with gi joe and transformers. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks Mike!
Your best video so far and it's so amazing! This and the following year were my favorites for TF releases. Can't wait for '86!
You will also make the video of The History of Transformers 1986 edition?

This must have taken a long time to put together. Greatly appreciate your love and effort. Long live the Transformers.
Thanks! :D
I don't often pay attention to the videos YT's algorithm recommends, but I'm glad I did in this case. This was a fun trip back to my childhood.
This video is awesome and hilarious! Also: I hope there will be a G1 Constructicon review and a G1 Megatron review. No rush! : )
Edit: thanks, Patrons!
Oh wow a muscle used to pump blood
Man these videos are so well edited. Keep going all the way until 2019
My little cousin has a g1 blaster toy and it's incredible what they could do back in the 80's
The censor blocks over Shockwave's trigger had me rolling! 🤣🥃🥃
the entire presentation was so wholesome, love it
I immediately recognized jet fire because of Robotech when my uncle brought all his transformers and Robotech toys out to show my brother and I. Still has em all

Love the video man. You made me get back into transformers by getting the war for cybertron figures thank you.
My favorite part of these reviews is the banter between Michael and the cartoon. Tremendous work!
thanks to this Video I learned more about more characters that were G1 especially Downshift at first that name was new and used for both Energon and Cybertron, but now I realize he's actually a G1 Autobot too lo he was a Mail Order

@@masterfarr8265 which year was Scorponok released? Since he is a headmaster he belongs to season 3. Must have been 1987?
Thanks for the history lesson, Michael. Looking forward to 86
Wow, seeing this brought back a lot memories, since i had most of these. I loved shockwave, since the gun lighted up and made sounds. I also loved the cities...metroplex and trypticon. And my microscope, perceptor.
I still have my Blaster and Jetfire from my childhood. Awesome.
Amazing as always mate, I enjoyed this amount of nostalgia in 29 mins. Keep it up mate!
Still have jet fire. Missing the plastic armor. Those metal wheels when released could thump the fingers. Coolest toy ever.
Wow! That image of McDonald's Commandrons brought back some memories. I had completely forgotten I had them. Thanks for bringing back a small piece of my childhood.
I had all the Omnibots mail-in ones. I totally forgot about them until I saw this video. The Toyota Supra was my favorite.
