- Jibaro is one of my favorite episode from Love, Death and Robot anthology series. Without saying a single word in the whole episode, a lot was shown. Things like human greed, lust, power, etc. were shown perfectly and that is what I have tried to show in my video.
I hope that you all will love my video edit on Jibaro! Thanks for watching!

This is about a deaf conquistador called Jibaro. He didn't react to the siren's screams because he's deaf. She became interested in him because he didn't react to her screams. When he woke up and she was next to him, he realised that the scale he found in the lake earlier came from her body, and he grins. After he pretends to be interested in the siren, he knocks her out and descales her, then throws her body down the waterfall back to the lake. The lake had gained healing properties due to the sirens blood, he drinks a handful, and regains his hearing. She lures him into the water and kills him.
thank you for the explanation
The conquiatador is not call jibaro im for Puerto Rico find the meaning of the word please no miss information jibaro in our native culture in Puerto Rico mean people of the mountain from nature and secomd jibaro means to country people people from the mountain that usually work in past time in the safra ( cane sugar farms) and in coffe plantation my familia is from ciale were there are jibaros my granpa is one that work at the zafra in Puerto Rico ..... i just want to let the people know the right meaning
And tooo at the siren meaning is all tha gold and riches from Puerto Rico were took by spain and cristobal colon they massacre every tainos and takes their lands by force so for me a person tha tlive here give me a lot of pride that part of my culture and hiatory ia depicted

It was disturbing and beautiful at the same time
@@t0m653 dude exactly. I feel like as soon as I saw that siren she reminds me of one of my DMT trips.
The name Jibaro is a term used to describe puertorrican natives. When the island was found by the conquistadors they found that the rivers were full of gold and so to obtain this, they used the Tainos of the island. They abused and murdered the natives in their efforts to obtain the stolen resources. And so this “siren” of this episode represents the gold and the Tainos that were murdered by the Spanish. I think this episode spoke well for itself, no description needed.
I really loved this interpretation more. Makes the viewing experience completely different.
@@adityamohan1773 this interpretation more? Is there any other interpretation for this? Seems pretty obvious to me
Taínos believed Spaniards were Gods because their superior Ships, Armor & Horses didn’t inhabit the Island. Therefore they were enslaved at the beginning willingly as they were relatively peaceful Natives. After rape, slavery one Taíno was fed up and drowned Diego Salcedo in the river. That’s when they realized the Spaniards were just as mortal as they were. Legend says…
It seems you were right there and remember everything very well. Good for you.
@@frandescontrolado damn, that’s what you think about historical events? That the historians “were there”? How pathetic :(
A detail I noticed that doesn't seem to be talked about in Jibaro is how the Siren genuinely seemed to have fallen for the deaf soldier at the waterfall dance scene, and I think the soldier was too (he leaves his sword on the land, evidence he was letting his guard down for the Siren in interest) until they kissed and he realized that even her tongue is covered in sharp gold scale, so he basically couldn't kiss her nor have a romantic relationship with her. I think that represents how the Siren is completely reduced to a source of wealth for him at that point, so he resorts to tricking her into making love then headbutts, strips her off her gold decorations, and tosses her downstream without remorse. Couldn't help but wonder why the director intended to include that precise scene of him cutting his tongue and bleeding. Personally, I think the kiss scene was to show the atrocious human nature in how what can begin as a genuine interest/affection for one another can quickly take a nasty turn to abuse and exploitation once a person is convinced that that's all the other is good for.
To me it seemed he wasn’t interested at all, she killed his mates. he knew she was deadly and slipped for a moment before quickly realizing how dangerous she was and how gullible man can be
Then steal her gold lol
@@samanthalong4801 i agree with you on how he realized her danger and decided to loot her without remorse. Perhaps it also represents the irony of how the siren had obtained all her gold embellishments from the countless soldiers she lured and killed. Those very treasures became the reason why she couldn't have a personal relation with the soldier, and why he couldn't see her as anything more than a target to exploit. What went around came around. I wouldn't say he wasn't interested at all to the siren, bc its given mythical knowledge that sirens are lethally charming in appearance not just their songs, and he did try to kiss her. Heck I'd date her too if she wasn't slicing me to death
the sirens' teeth is sharp. she cuts him when they kiss

Love, Death and Robots is one of the best series i ever saw in my life and i saw almost everything worth seeing.. on this planet.
Ya'll noticed how the lake is shaped almost like a normal human heart? It has all the arteries and everything. Which imo, I think it is in a way represents the heart of the forest or the woman. A lot of symbolism in this. Great episode, by the way.
It’s supposed to be the shape of a womb but that’s interesting because it does look like a heart
from the way the cams were setting, I have the impression of raw runic nature power, especially the eye on the tree at the beginning. It like the game Senua, force of nature express itself in form of symbolic runes, chaotic and madness sounds and vision that normal human (the knights and priests) cant stand which lead to their death. what a bombastic episode!
Wow this is just supreme work.. stunning in so many ways.
Terrible episode, weird fever dream with bad CGI, absolutely autistic.
Morbius out of 10.
It's heart lake in canada
My interpretation when I heard the director say it was about toxic relationships: In the dance for romance the men are drawn to her, mesmerized, or manipulated. They are unimportant regardless of loyalty, service to their church, or good deeds; the only one she notices is the one who ignores her. He in return only notices the things he can take from her. They choose the one who's wrong for them. The kiss is painful, the connection is unhealthy. Yet they are drawn to each other. He takes every piece of her shell, the shallowness symbolized by materialism. Taking without any interest for the body, the person underneath. The Passion of love, the redness in the water, is healing but exposing. Love is painful yet reviving. His drink is his participation, making him more vulnerable and entwined with her. This is why she can inflict pain upon him now. The pain can be manipulation, control, screaming & yelling, or violence. No one walks away, no one wins.
amazing interpretation sadly this is how it is everywhere

fun fact: Jíbaro and The Witness (from the first season) are made by the same director, Alberto Mielgo, and both of them are the best short films of their respective season. He also made Spiderman into the spiderverse. That man is a genius
OH MY GOD I KNEW I FELT SOMETHING FAMILIAR ABOUT IT
Just a slight correction: he didn't make Spiderman ITS, he only did some of the concept art in the early stages but was let go due to some kind of disagreements behind the scenes. So the final work in Spiderverse are not his. He did however make his own full short called The Windshield Wiper which everyone should check out!

Agreed
This lady haunted me for a very long time. Best, creepiest epi of love, death, robots. It was like eating spicy food, you knw it is burning your mouth but you keep eating coz it tastes delicious.
Jibaro, unfortunately, is a much darker story than the romantic tale of Sovannmacha. Instead of a love story, this is the story of lust, pain, greed, and trauma. The golden Siren was so taken by the man she could not control that she lay with him and later danced for him, giving him her love. This scene is very symbolic of the sex act. She gave her body and soul to the soldier who abused it instead of caring for her. When he ripped the scales from her body, it was a brutal assault. Everything about their encounter before and after the assault points to the power of women to endure. Her lake looks like a womb, and the violent attack by the soldier left her bleeding into the river like many women who have been victims of rape are left.
In the aftermath of her attack, she is left a shell of her former self, having been robbed of her femininity and beauty. Her gold was more than adornment. It was who she was, and she reacted in grief and rage. She thought she might have finally found someone to love her, who she could also love, and he turned out to be no better than any other man she had killed over the years. In her fury, she lashed out and drowned the knight who could now hear her, thanks to his greed.
Beautiful statement
I agree but there’s also a small detail that her love was painful to him. Her tongue was made up of razors. He was open to the kiss until it caused him pain and then he made the choice to take advantage
You guys have no trouble justifing what was basically rape. Man was running for his life.
Except she was the one who brutally murdered them first, they weren't even going in the direction of the river
@SonsOfHllor Most likely soldiers and priests whom she killed came there just to kill her and steal her gold. She was a very dangerous and powerful creature by nature, but her actions were reaction to potential and actual danger. Like many wild animals, she wouldn't attack until the risk for her life was there. Notice that she didn't physically assault Jibaro until he obsessively ripped out the jewel out of her belly skin while she was dancing for him. It is a brutal but absolutely fascinating story of toxic relationships.
The full, 15-min version starts out revealing that the main character is deaf, which explains why he's unaffected by the siren's call. Definitely my favorite from season 3.
The best damn animator ever, most peoble think he uses real actors and mo-cap... heck even the scenery is pure CGI.
True. But he could achieve the same thing using real actors and shooting it for real an rotoscoping it. But hell to each his own. Very good thing. My favorite of the whole series.
I honestly doubted myself many times throughout this episode whether these were real peope or not. A pure work of art.
You for real or you assuming? Some of these scenes had to be real people
@@dgayle2348 I didn't,t say that. I said that he could have achieved the same look shooting real people. In some way they actually did. They used pictures of the dancers and stuff... but no Mo cap.
@@dgayle2348 For sure, it's all keyframe animation, just like his other work, The Witness, in season one.
I believe that this particular short will go down in the cinematography history books: it's technically beautiful and innovative both in sound design, directing and visuals, but it also has a shocking, powerful story rooted in a fascinating historycal setting, which also makes room for more symbolic and allegorical interpretations. A masterpiece!
I watched this for the 3rd time and finally saw - 1. I think she began to fall for him NOT only because he was deaf and couldn’t hear her BUT because in the scene where he sleeps, she comes up and rubs her jewels on his armor…thinking he had the same type of flesh in a way? She seemed so interested by the sounds. That’s kinda how I perceived it after watching it many times. 2. At the scene where he is stripping her of her gold, there is a split second where I do believe he is physically raping her body. It could be perceived differently to others. It’s at 10:02-10:03 of the ACTUAL Netflix video not here. It’s honestly so sad but a masterpiece. I can’t stop watching this, guess immma freak.
Could also be him tearing something from her body
This is by far the best episode of LD&R...just a beautiful work of art. The only other one that can contend is Zima Blue.
But even then, this one is just more...human.
I think the siren represents the Earth, and how humanity is stripping it from its riches, and when she drowns the man, it's symbolism for the Earth fighting back
lol earth doesn't fight back
@@squishysturgeon it's a metaphor, ever hear of reclamation?
That’s literally not what it’s about
@@alexxx5749 art has no set meaning, there may be an intended meaning but not a set one
@@alexxx5749 The message was left ambiguous for a reason. The are no right and wrong interpretations - just different ones
Truly an incredible short. I loved this. The metaphors feel like they can apply to a lot of situations.
My take:
There's a minute during the waterfall sequence where you almost think it's going to work - that they'll kiss and fall in love and it'll have a 'good' ending. But her teeth are razors. She can't change what she is, even if she tries. And the only reason she tried at all is because she didn't understand why he was 'different' from the others.
And it rapidly becomes clear that although she's shaped like a beautiful woman, he doesn't see her as human. And in some ways the audience can sympathize - if you saw all your comrades in arms kill themselves over her, you wouldn't feel sympathy, either. But then you see her grief and her despair after she wakes up, and it breaks your heart anyways.
well said
According to the director this is about modern toxic relationships; based on rhat i think the siren represents women who lure alot of men but only are truly interested in the guy who seems hard to get. The deaf knight represents a man who only is interested in external beauty..Once her external beauty fades with the glitter gone he *dumps her". The siren in turn scorned by the man turns on him with a fury that destroys him.
Another symbolic message would be that the siren was interested in the one who was unable to react to her voice and this interest lead to her being exploited in the same way that we tend to fall in love with people who are least interested in us and then end up jn a toxic relationship
One of the most beautiful works of art I've ever seen. Jibaro is pure art!

thing I noticed towards the end. as he's being lured by the siren, the screams are making him perform the same dance moves she did when she lured in all those soldiers.
So the interpretation of her as the Spirit of the forest is spot on but there's also a Brazilian siren called Iara (yara) that's described as a warrior woman who was betrayed by her brothers and father and became a siren after being drowned in the Amazon River
I can’t explain into words how much I loved this. The camera work, the animation, the music, the story, it all blended together to bring such a unique style man, I’ve never seen anything like it before. One of the best pieces of animated work I’ve seen to date, incredible.

Jibaro is a beautiful film. Because of the costumes and the appearance of the principal actors, I thought it was based on some Vedic myth. But it was set in the new world and filmed in the Pacific Northwest.
Given that the soldiers are meant to be Conquistadors, here's an idea: Have Alberto Mielgo remake Aguirre, the Wrath of God in the style of Jibaro. The siren scene at the lake would make a better ending than the one Herzog originally assigned to Aguirre.
Here is my interpretation of 'Jibaro'
The Gist: The passion for wealth brings blood and death along with the treasure
(Ambition and race for wealth make people out of their nature, it brings evil besides power)
Against the lure of the fortune(Siren), all the soldiers fought to obtain her.
(Human history is full in order to reach the wealth, They fight each other for this sake.)
For this cause, they all drowned in death
(For the sake of money, people left humanity and made wars with each other, and exploited countries, this brought unhappiness and destruction to all humanity)
The deaf soldier refused to be dyed for the sake of the lure of this wealth and run away from her.
(The deaf soldier represents innocence and humanity, the destruction was so great because of wealth desire, that some of them, ignored the treasure and chose not involved in evil, at the expense of leaving it)
The lure of wealth did not leave him. Siren tried to tempt the soldier. Finally, he succumbed to his own greed and followed her
(Even the pure heart people chase money, but most people try not to lose their humanity in this cause)
At first, the soldier kissed her and thought about how she could reach him without hurting him. Later he realized that there is no other way. And he had to choose. He chose to get his hands dirty for the sake of wealth.
(Such is the son of man. No matter how much he resists the power of money, he succumbs to his own greed and does very bad things for this cause to get the power. They destroy.
No matter how much treasure the soldier had now, he was no longer innocent. His ears were hearing, his innocence was gone, he was like the others now. And like the others, he drowned in the face of the curse of materiality.
(Everyone who has been involved once in evil for this cause has achieved the wealth he dreamed of, but he cannot know what he has lost, cannot understand the destruction and pain that has taken place for this cause. He thinks he has won, but his own and all humanity has actually lost)
This was beautiful. I loved the use of the siren legend and it really brought home the terror and compulsion of such an experience. It was unexpected, beautiful, ugly...loved it.
This is my all time FAVORITE episode. It's so morbidly beautiful.
It's almost like a ballet.
Very reminiscent of Caribbean history and how spain took advantage of the islands, incredible motif and visual, by far the best in the season.
