I recently found out that a form of (edit:) amphetamines was actually legal in America (and several European countries) and sold in the U.S. under the name "Benzedrine" . Thelonious Monk used it extensively and many other musicians, Parker among them as far as I know.
benzedrine wasn't crystal meth back then just amphetamine. you can still get pills with amphetamine now (adderall etc.) nowadays though, the inhaler equivalent benzedrex has propylhexedrine which IS similar to meth but obviously not as long lasting.
The Music is called 'Nightmare'. It was composed by Artie Shaw in 1936 and is played by his 1938 big band. This was Shaws signature tune. It does sound very Duke like.

You may have the strongest Yorkshire accent in the entire world. It's like Derek Bailey as a Bo Selecta character
I'm glad you said Yorkshire. Some people have been saying I sound like a Brummie (Birmingham): that's southerners for you.
@@bebopreview3187 That's insane. Great video btw!
so thats what a yorkshire accent sounds like
Thanks for this. So much is already known about Parker and drugs. You have the quotes from Bird and musicians who were there. 👍👍
Nightmare - Artie Shaw is featured in 'The Aviator' that's why it's so recognizable! Check out the scene of Leo locked in the hotel.
He actually kicked heroin several times but always went back. When his daughter died it destroyed him and he died a year later
Bird Lives
so cool!
Seriously anybody know? Cause I've definitely heard that in movies before!

Is it a big band tune? Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Cab Colloway, or maybe lionel Hampton lol?
It’s called Nighttime by Artie Shaw.
Bird was right! Addiction stinks!
What is the name, composer, and what album is the first tune on?
RIP BIRD!!!

What Movie is that scene from?" You wanna play like Bird? You gotta shoot shit like Bird?NO!!.."
Biggs Sr. "Bird" by Clint Eastwood. Not all that well researched but fun to watch.
