I bought this one a few months ago as my home PC and so far so good. It's more than I need and a great deal on Amazon. It's small but it's the most memory and most powerful PC I've had so far! Even better than my work laptops! This will surely be enough for my use case for years!
No worries 🤠 We want the best for the consumer, and to do that we need to say both the good and the bad points of whatever we get. Once manufacturers accept the shortcomings and work on them. It'd work better for everyone. 😊 Would love to see what you're cooking up next 😁
Great review! I am not shopping for a new PC at the moment, but for some reason I find those mini thingies cool and interesting. Ending song (as always) was a blast!
Apparently the bottom goes on a certain way to increase WiFi reception, but only a little. Dongle should help, but maybe even using another WiFi module could fix the whole thing. This mini pc with liquid metal compound is extremely good, it's a shame that WiFi performance tainted it somewhat
Do you have any advice on which dongle to buy? I have never used a usb dongle before. I use starlink because I’m in rural Alaska. The WiFi router that comes with it seems to be good, I can get WiFi in my yard 50 ft away
thanks great review as always, not afraid to call out the flaws which other reviewers often ignore no less! 4K HDR playback full screen power watt reading will still be much appreciated if you get a chance ;) thx
@@Christopher-xn8qk yeah. Believe it or not they actually take a few hours to do with the endless changing / writing lyrics and searching for a result that sounds decent.
I like the I/O with the 2 USB 4 and 4 USB 3.2 Gen 2, so no ancient USB 2 or even 5Gbps USB 3 to have to put up with in 2024. I like the fact that the front ports proudly state USB 4, so you are in little doubt at all, subject to no clarification of whether they are running at 20 or full 40Gbps. The gaming performance looked great all round. Would have liked to see Xbox emulation. I like that the rubber feat have been designed not to use any sticky substance. The clunky BOOS can always be rectified with a firmware update. Perhaps the wireless signal strength could be rectified in future manufacturing by using plastic for the case. Overall, it came across as positive overall. Bearing in mind that this is a brand that has come from nowhere, it is good that you can get it from a source with a decent enough returns policy. Always be wary of purchasing direct from any company that does not have it's actual mailing address on their website website. On the subject of sucking, that closing music (I'm being generous with the description of 'music'). Give the cash that they sent to your favourite charity.
Definitely a positive review. As we mentioned, dongles can work around those points, but still would lose it's premium looks. Usb 2 has it's purpose which isn't immediately obvious, until you look at troubleshooting and knowing it doesn't need drivers. Guessing you prefer a quiet close instead of the summary eh ? 😄
I use an old iPhone SE for the video footage, then copy it over to a pc and edit it down using davinci resolve. There's a free version that does most of what you need. For voice, a usb mic is probably the place to go.
im sold. its in my cart and waitinf for pay day Edit: Received the machine and was skeptical after my first boot since I was having trouble loading up any games/anything other than video streaming, but after updating all drivers and installing all windows updates (not sure if those affected the problem i was having) everything was good to go and this thing games like a champ.
Looks a really nice bit of kit, but having to add a USB WiFi aerial to get coverage is just so wrong. As you say, encasing it in a metal box is not going to help. Otherwise it seems to be a great little PC. Grand review as always Tim...
Hey there, thanks 👍 To be fair, my router is one that came with my ISP. It uses WiFi 5, and is through a couple of layers of dry wall. The test we usually do is probably for the "regular guy who never upgrades his stuff", rather than having top of the line equipment. If you're all WiFi 6E router with a mesh setup, I'm sure it'll work like gravy.
Hi. Is there that much difference between different manufacturers? I was following the "MINIS FORUM Venus UM790 Pro", here in Spain it has a similar price and specifications, but it's a different brand. I'm not in a hurry to buy, maybe I should wait for the Radeon 890M to come out? Thanks for your videos!
There is for sure. We've reviewed 3 mini PCs using the 7940hs processor, and the other two throttled due to not enough cooling on the memory and nvme. There are also subtle differences regarding differing memory, nvme, additional nvme slots inside, price, CPU cooling, WiFi signal, software installed. It's not only a question of "what processor is in it", but the sum of all its parts.
Regarding waiting for the 890m, I think we'll be looking at either the third or fourth quarter of 2024 before we start seeing those. And then it'll be "should I wait for the 990M?". It's a never ending cycle.
@@TeamPandory Hahaha, that's true. And thanks! I'll try to find out about all the options in my country, or I'll make a friend who understands, maybe that will be faster :pppp
Honestly outside the WiFi and Bluetooth, this thing is great 👍 To be honest we do the worst case scenario when it comes to WiFi using WiFi 5 rather than WiFi 6E, however a usb dongle for both game controller and WiFi is such an easy work around
@@TeamPandory ps3 controller is probably the easiest controller to pair for the system, usb cable for 5-10 seconds and it’s paired. Perfect for Sony emulation nostalgia. PS4 and PS5 just need to be put into pairing mode. Their touchpad works for DS games.
There is no IPU support! All other competitors for 7940HS have this option (such as Minisforum, Beelink, GMKtec etc.) Do not buy until it's confirmed they have this option supported.
It can be a blessing, and a curse. AFAIK turning off IPU can leave the computer with less power draw, and less heat = better performance in gaming. Until AMD release graphic drivers that give us an IPU boost for games, there's no real reason to avoid it due to the lack of RyzenAI support. Unless you need to develop using RyzenAI. 🙄
I am into very colorful hardware, especially computers, but this is the first time I remember where I like this color for them. IMO it looks really really good. MS is doing everything they can to push people away from it. I mean as it is the only main software of theirs I still use is Windows 10. I will jump ship when I can. I am sick of the big brother BS, the spying all the time and now with the upcoming "co-pilot" and always recording everything you do, FRAKING BS, I have had it. ZERO trust. The voice actor in that game certainly sounds familiar. AMD fixes for what exactly? (emulation) I like the cooling situation, though not a fan of how difficult it is to reach the APU. Shame. Great review as always.
The voice actor in that game? Do you mean Dave the Diver? ... 🤣 But yeah, MS are going hard the last what, ten years in trying to take more control of YOUR system. Spying with co-pilot, and if you can remember the type of shenanigans with the XBOX ONE launch? Thankfully it's pretty easy to jump ship now, especially with the rise of online tools/ applications like canva, and also Proton being able to play most Windows games. The IPU was not activated, so that could be good, or bad, depending on how you view it. TBH I'd prefer a switch in the BIOS so we could activate/deactivate it if we need it. The APU itself is actually attached to the outer case using liquid metal. I probably botched it up by pulling it like that, but it was nice to know that it uses something higher-end vs the usual "toothpaste". AMD fixes, sorry we didn't explain. Teknoparrot is an arcade emulator for later games, such as Outrun 2, Tekken 7- and those arcade systems ran using GeForce GPUs. If you have a GeForce GPU in use, then most games will perform as they should. If you're using either Intel or Radeon (AMD), then you'll require fixes to be installed, or you'll be riddled with graphical glitching and errors. Textures not showing, things like that.
