Hey Brent thanks for this tutorial! The "abandoned"/distressed aesthetic has been growing on me, and I've been thinking of doing a plaster finished wall above painted wainscoting for my office, so this just helped me confirm my decision.
I have been doing this for years, I will only add that with a smaller spatula and more random strokes you get a more refined look, yes it is more work but the end result is better IMO. I did all the walls of my entire apartment, 1500 sq feet in this finish, it was hell to do but the feel and look of it is amazing. I just moved and now I got all the supplies to do the corridors and staircase of my new condo, in this finish. will start in the next 2 weeks if work does not get as crazy as it is now, LOL.
Professional painter, 30 years now. Ugh. 🥺 so me mr know it all will tell how it’s done correctly lol. Jk 1- Always prime the wall close to the color of the plaster, Sherwin Williams pro block, Tint primer close to the Venetian plaster doesn’t need to be exact. 2-never large knife only 6-8 inch 3- smile this is fun to do 😀 apply plaster different directions pull it tight but leave some lines it’s ok but pull the plaster off. 4- let dry 2-4 hours 5- lightly sand. 220 grit I use. Remember lightly with sanding pole 6- Apply 2nd coat, This coat pull the material off tight. Remember knife in all different directions. Don’t over think it. 6- Let dry 2-4 hrs. ONLY. 7- the longer you leave it the harder it is to burnish. 8- use all four fingers on back 6” knife, start rubbing. The more you burnish the more shine you will see I like middle of the road sheen. Not all needs to be shines. That also gives depth. You could Apply sealer after. I do not. FYI. I’ve used every brand and Lowe’s has the best snd easiest to work with Venetian plaster. Good luck ✌️❤️ 🎨
I just want to thank you so much …. I had already bought this “plaster” by Valstar and this is literally the ONLY video I could find on it. Before watching this video I had already applied it but forgot to polish and was wondering why it was dull. This video was very helpful!!!

You need to stop it, go to a real venetian plaster classes and lots of practice before you start saying how good some RUclips venetian sloppy Venetian plaster work looks.
@@BYOTools I'm still learning how to cut in. One of the best bits of advice came from our friend Leah at See Jane Drill. Start close to where the edge is and slowly move your brush over to it. Works for me!
Lovely finish! To clarify for others, this is a thick latex paint that (may have some fillers) roller brushes on, or trowels on for more texture. You can use a small spade shaped trowel for more 'movement' in the finish but it is slower. You wait until the finish is 'leather hard' a term from pottery, where the finish is still damp but not sticky to the touch. At this point it is not fully dry, but dryish. Easy to burnish it with a trowel, stone, etc. There are many other design factors like pressing in a leaf skeleton, or fish skeleton, or sponging on a second color of deeper hue, to get more depth. True Venetian plaster is a mix of slaked limestone + marble dust + pigment + water/polymer. This is thicker, more texturized and more laborious, but essentially the same troweling on. You can do interior or exterior finishes, burnish the same way. Slaked Lime version can be used for shower stalls too. Amazing stuff and rich patina'ed Venetian effect. I'm going to try that on my RV shower walls with correct prepping of waterproof backer board. These cost much more per gallon.
@@raynellkahala4285 Not in the modern sense, no. Being mixture of crushed marble and lime, ideally it needs to _breathe._ Traditionally, it's finished with wax (or sometimes even olive soap!) which you burnish and buff in - a bit like you do to make chalk painted furniture durable. It'll be water-resistant, but never water _proof._ Dating back to Roman times - 27 BC-AD 286! - it's lime-based, so naturally mould and mildew-resistant - ideal in a bathroom. The lime's natural properties will be lost if you employ a modern sealant.

Haha Love it Miguel. Great to hear and I will have to keep REAL venetian plaster video on my project list for sure. Thanks so much for watching and truly appreciate your support.
Nice color. But personally I dislike the look of the final product when it's applied with a large trowel. Looks super blotchy and rushed. The way we used to do it was with a 3-4 inch thin metal scraper knife. This is very time consuming and hard on the wrist and arm. It would take days to finish a medium sized room but the result looked great. The pattern is tight and random which gives a authentic marble look.
Can you pls tell us which kind of paint we can add to change the colour for example if I have one venetian plaster in white can I add a paint to change the colour if yes what kind aor type of colours do make effects

Not for me. Your application goes against everything I know as a plasterer. Sorry mate but that finish is terrible. All I can see is trowel marks. I think if you applied it like you would Venetian the finish would look better. Sorry man
I understand paul and this was something that the client and I discussed and this was the look they where going for. I haven’t tried reall Venetian plaster before but hope to in the future. Thanks for watching and Keepin it real haha.
Wow never seen a 2 hands on a trowel ,or lay on with a pan an spatula . You need to do less production strokes move more organic flow not going back .
meer?
Hasta el proceso de aplicacion esta mui mal
