  • Surfboard Glassing | Hot Coat and Sanding | Finish the 5'4 Hi-Performance Twin Fin Fish Time-Lapse
    I wanted this one to be super light (2.2KG) so I glassed it 4OZ +3OZ Innegra fabric bottom and 4+4OZ top with carbo fiber all around so it is super strong and light. I sanded the board starting with 80 grit all the way up to 400 grit and matt spray finish. let me know what you think in the comments!

    Welcome to my channel
    My name is Koby and I am a surfboard shaper.
    For the last 7 years, I shape and build surfboards in my small workshop and now I will expand into more great projects using an Epoxy resin such as River tables, woodworking, and more. I will upload surfboard building tutorials, shaping tools reviews, and great tips about working with epoxy resin art.
    All my boards are made from EPS and epoxy resin and I like to go crazy with my resin art! I will do swirls using tints and pigments, cloth inlays, weird shapes, and more.
    I can talk about surfboards all day, so feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I will do my very best to answer them in the best way possible

    How much resin one uses, approximately of course, to glass a 6 foot board? glass schedule of 2 layers of 4oz bottom and 4 and 6oz deck? a liter and a half? or am i short or too much? thanks! awsome work you do, very inspiring!

      Bottom 1 4oz layer with tail patch, deck 4 + 6oz. Bottom 80gr per 1ft and deck 110gr per 1ft ( 6toot deck = 660gr epoxy total)

    Very cool video. When you stick down the carbon tape with resin do you let it dry before you lay the rest of the fiberglass over the board or do you lay the fiberglass while the carbon tape is still wet? Cheers!

      @@kobymaymonsurfboards7320 Hi Koby great video. Another carbon tape question: When you lay it, do you sand the board out a bit to make the tape lie flat with the rest of the board? I made a board like yours but in the end there was a little bump in the glass where the tape stuck up...

    • @kobymaymonsurfboards7320
      @kobymaymonsurfboards7320  3 года назад +1

      @@suzukiton yes - you will get a bump- I do a bit of sanding before the HOT COT stage and finally, sand it off at the final sanding stage. In the end, you cant feel it, also if you will do a gloss to the board 100% it will be gone within the sanding process.

    nice shape! Just a question, if I dont sand the board after the coat will it be functional

    • @kobymaymonsurfboards7320
      @kobymaymonsurfboards7320  2 года назад

      Yes it will, but i do not recommend that. The min you must do is to create the sharp angle at the fins area for good release- so it is will work but I highly recommend sand the board- even if you do it fast and only one paper (120 grit) is better than no sand at all

    Is that biaxial glass you used on the bottom? I’m considering to do a surf foil board and think biax might have an advantage over twill. How did it work for you, happy with the performance? I used 435gr biax once and was tough to wet out

    • @kobymaymonsurfboards7320

      I used 3.8Oz fiberglass with Inegra threads, it is amazing strong and feels good, a bit hard to sand (has small diamond patterns that you need to send before the 2nd hot cote) but overall great 🤙🏼

      The thing is that you have to wait between layers for the epoxy to cure. Net build tome is: shaping 3h, glassing + hot cote 2-4h, sanding 2 and 1h finishing. It worth about 3000 nis (850$) Good luck 🤞
