    All the calves look good I think, it's a shame you won't be getting a purebred Galloway from Beltie beag. I'm still looking forward to the rest of the calves to come. I find the whole process very interesting, great work Seán.

      Thank you Padraig. We will be able to see what a shorthorn x galloway and a Galloway x shorthorn look like beside each other. And we should have different looking calves out of the belties this year too with the roan bulls

    Sean, I just heard yesterday that Greg Judy will be in northern Ireland this summer for a conference. I'm at his farm now, at his grazing school, listening to Ian Mitchell Inis. That grass is coming on now, have a great day.

    That's a shame about no more Ruby calves, but the ones you have are go hiontach! Keep up the great work. And yes, that little heifer looks like a great calf! Well done!

      Thank you Willie. Yes but our beltie cows might have a bit of roan this time after the bulls 🤔 a blue grey with a belt is a possibility too. Will be interesting to see the difference between a Galloway x shorthorn and a shorthorn x galloway 🤔

    Davy's heifer is the winning Shorthorn in your experiment. Davy might have another of the same abilities. Great luck anyhow to have 2 ruby heifers and maybe the red bull for a go next year especially on the existing belties and davy's. You will have some clearing out to do this year but sure that's what it's all about.

    So disappointed that you will have no more ruby babies. But don't throw in the towel yet. The blue looks like she might be carrying twins and if so that may be why she is struggling bit. She looks very big. All looking great in the sunshine. You will have to name the heifer calf off your purebred cow so we can track her . The calves are very lively. Thanks for the update

      @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569  4 месяца назад +2

      Hi Marie yes it's a little disappointing however we will get to see a shorthorn x galloway along side a Galloway x shorthorn. We could also get some nice colours with the bulls being roan this time so all is not lost.
      The wee bull calfs are every bit pure bred in the markings too which is nice. We shall know very soon 🤞

    Sean, I prefer the shorthorns anyway, not that I know anything about keeping cattle, so you wouldn’t want to be paying too much heed to me(!) For your sake, I was hoping you might get some more belties but it seems Ruby was a quality not quantity lad who didn’t believe in working overtime! Perhaps he might spring you a last surprise…

    Imagine having 3 sets of twins from one cow over 5 years I think? Crazy going 🙄 I do think similar of the AI tbh he will never be as good as in the book on a normal day

    • @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569
      @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569  4 месяца назад +1

      Did you ever hear about the quads in clare?
      A cow had 4 hiefer calves and they then grow up and 2 of them had a set of twins as springers.
      And now that you mention it I think any bull given the minding could look great in the Ai brochures. Throw him into a field and out winter him and take a picture in April and we'd see a different animal

    • @kieranosullivan02
      @kieranosullivan02 3 месяца назад

      @@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 don't think I heard it tbh. I reckon they'll advise to go for a bull instead of AI in years to come for some reason or other, just a complete turn around like everything else at some point 🙄 The bull is real, at this stage the AI are mostly modified, whatever problems will arise there are yet to be seen

      Sounds good.
      It's a good time of the year to dose with a Fluke and worm dose as the Fluke in the cows should all be in the adult stage. What did your vet use? Was it bluestone?

      @seanofalluinregenerativefa4569  4 месяца назад

      @@user-qj2ge5hz4d no I'm pretty sure it's pharmacy derived. I'd sooner the blue stone but I'm nervous about the amount to use. I've heard it's easy over dose

    • @user-qj2ge5hz4d
      @user-qj2ge5hz4d 4 месяца назад

      All the bluestone that you can lift on an old Irish Pound coin. Mix in boiling hot water for a few minutes then add water to cool it down.
      Dose the cow as soon as possible after mixing preferably within 20 mins. The bluestone doesn't kill the fluke but it hardens the lining of the stomach so the fluke pass out rather than migrating to her liver, so they tell me anyhow. I don't have any bluestone but I can lend you an old Irish Pound coin. 😉😉
