Bless you, doc, for suggesting an ice pack for itchy eyes. I've had lifelong allergies and my mother was always telling me "don't rub your eyes!" that but the relentless itching without relief was maddening. 🤩 And I've finally learned what the tiny blisters are on the rim of my eyelids: blocked Meibomian glands. I've noticed that if I sleep on my back, I don't get the puffiness under my eyes. If I sleep on my side, then that side gets puffy. I figured it's like lividity, where your fluids pool when you die depending on position of your body at death. It's hard for me to sleep on my back, I even try to slant my upper body up for sinus reasons & find that's even better. As a senior woman on low sodium diet, this is only my observation, no scientific study, but it's free to try at home, no risks. Glad to see a Dr. Not selling his own products.
Yes that works great ! Your lucky I find it sooooo hard to sleep on my back but I do for a week before an important function so my under eyes look great.
If I don't sleep on my back my eyes are terribly swollen in morning. I now sleep on sofa with pillows propping up my head to be elevated. The added support for my hips to lean into the back of sofa, helps keep me comfortable. And the arm of the sofa keeps my head elevated.
Under eye bags can be hereditary. It ran in our family. Noticing the fat pockets starting to protrude in my mid twenties, I had my under eye fat removed by a plastic surgeon. Best decision. As my sister aged, I was so glad I didn’t have the bags she had. Once the fat was removed, it never came back. That was 35 years ago.
Very impressed with your video. As an Ophthalmic Technician for over 20 years, who works with an Ophthalmologist who specializes in Levator Advancement surgery and an expert on dry eye, I agree almost 100% with the information you provided. However, I do need to make mention of a more minimally invasive procedure call laser lower lid resurfacing that works absolutely incredible! I do suggest your patients and follower only see a board certified Ophthalmologist for consultation. In my experience, general plastic surgeons are slightly less experienced with lid skin and tend to be a bit more radical with their fat removal. Thank you for your time. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I have known for some time, I need an upper eye lift, because my hooded eye lids are weighing down my eyelashes into my line of vision. Cucumbers actually reduce inflammation. I eat them to reduce inflammation in my body. I have a severe case of inflammation so ive done this. My body moves with less pain because the inflammation is down. If i can feel it inside my body it makes sense it would work on the outside of my body too. I would suggest mashing a cucumber to get the juices out of them then soak the eyes in the mash instead of using slices because with the contours of the eyes slices may not get into every spot.
I appreciate the diagram of the fat pushing out underneath the eye. My opthamalogist has talked to me about the surgery, but your visual helped me understand the condition and the surgery. I have them & they are hereditary. I sleep with my head elevated already cuz of back injury & still have them. I have noticed when I put tea bags on them it helps a little but so far that's the only thing I've noticed to help. I don't eat salt at all. Never did. Now I am 52 years old and they make me look way older than I am. To those who don't have Eye Bags yet, please stop scratching your eyes. That will help to delay them from showing up.
Ask a geriatric physician....they can tell in a second.......eating deli? Swollen ankles are serious as....dare I say...a heart attack. Took my dad when he had swollen ankles. Good doctor, said one word, posed as a question.... deli? Uhhh, yes.
Also I used to put cold things under my eyes to get that "soothe" feeling but I noticed it was making my eye darker and a little bit more puffy. I think it was due to the cold stopping circulation and the warmth keeps that circulation going. I stopped cold compressing and doing a little bit of acupressure and my under eye area became more aesthetically pleasing for me.
Friends of mine went to a hospital in Bangkok to have this surgery because it was much cheaper than in America. I thought they were a bit silly but the surgery worked.
Wow I've used retinol products under my eyes for a few months now thinking I've been doing the right thing. I have noticed slight worsening of my dry eyes but never correlated it to my retinol creams. Just hope I haven't caused any permanent damage 😭😭
I've noticed that the lack of the proper amount of daily sleep(for me) is the main cause of my under eye bags. If I get less than 6 hours per night or if the sleep is broken(waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle) then my under eye area is negatively affected.
Interesting video. I'm a physician myself but as we all know its too easy to overlook important issues in other specialties. I did not realize that some of those tightening creams could be seriously bad leading to dry eye disease. That said use for say a special occasion - in other words infrequent use - probably lowers the risk of serious issues. I've heard of people using preparation H - same stuff used for hemorrhoids elsewhere in the body - I was wondering whether this was harmful too created the same issues. Your thoughts on careful and occasional use of these creams etc would be appreciated. Thanks for an excellent tutorial.
Hey thanks for asking. I have heard the preparation H trick too. It seems plausible to help, however, if it hasn't been tested and we don't have clinical evidence to back it up - and that use would be off label, I caution away from it. I will have to look more closely at the ingredients to see if there is anything in it that could cause problems to the eyelids long term.
Cucumbers reduce swelling. Effective on swollen ankle sprains for one. I had 4 wasp bites on the back of my hand. 3 days of swelling and itch. I finally used a few slices placed on the swelling wrapped with cellophane. The swelling was vastly reduced and I could see my knuckles again after 45 minutes. My thought was no wonder they used this for the eyes years ago. Try it yourselves
I'm 75 & wore contact lenses from age 15 to my thirties, when I had an early form of "lasik", i.e. radial kerotomy, which allowed me to go without corrective lenses, at least partially! However, I always felt that the decades of pulling down my eyelids to insert contacts, led me to have premature 'baggy eyelids'! So, I believe other factors, beside heredity, can affect the tightness of your eyelids!
Could you please elaborate on the problem of dry eyes caused by the use of creams like Retin A, as you quickly mentioned on this video. Thank you very much.
Favourite part of the video was learning how to prevent eye bags as much as possible and the tips that help reduce it even if it isn’t all the way reduced
Can you elaborate on the surgery itself pease? How straightforward is it? Is it under general anesthesia? How long does it take? Are there complications? How long does it take to recover and see improvements? Any before and after photos would help too! Thank you!
Thankyou for all your kind advice.... When a person has been through trauma, abuse any excruciating painful stuff.... I recall you mentioned the affect on one's vision, so obviously puffy eyes also play a part... my question is can there be full recovery does it depend on age?....
Trauma can play a lot of roles on the eyes, trauma directly to the eye can result in tissue damage and therefore swollen eyes such as in the case of a black eye. Severe enough trauma can damage the orbit which can lead to muscle and nerve damage which can often lead to double vision. In both of these cases, the tissue does often heal over time, even for nerve damage - this can heal over the course of 6 months or so. Swelling of the eyelids usually resolves over a few days to weeks due to trauma, but obviously, better with treatment (like cold compresses). What I find most fascinating is how trauma can lead to hysterical amblyopia - which is where even though your eyes see just fine, your mind makes you think you are seeing blurry (or not at all). Crazy how powerful the mind can be.
How to get rid of puffy eyes: Lower salt intake Cold compresses Do not rub your eyes. Surgery. Do not use eye cream on the eye lids, especially retinoids. Protect your eye skin area: big hats, sunglasses, spf.
Does retinaldehyde cause the same kind of damage in the eye area as retinol? Also, aren’t the preservatives in the eye drops also a risk for causing dry eye issues?
I had bags that were just a little kind of puff. I noticed when I stopped using alot of my face products and started just a good retinoid ( I have sensitive skin so I use kinami7 retinoid) this helps collagen and isn't applied under my eye but my face only. It has improved my skin texture and my face looks more youthful ( glow, less sagging and brighter) this I guess helped tighten the under eye skin and now I look like I have 8 hours sleep a night lol
Thanks for the graphic depiction of why I've developed a set of luggage under my eyes as I aged, as I never had any sign of bags when younger. Hard pass on the surgery though, my fear of it from past experience is far greater than any vanity I still have left! lol

I started doing the castor oil treatment and went to another eye doctor months later and he could not see that I had an astigmatism and gave me a regular contact prescription and now I wear contacts that are comfortable again.

You can decide which procedure you will want, but there are two. One is to excise fat from the outside of the lid. The other is to do it from the inside thus no cutting of the lower eye muscle - which is what I did. Study up on it to make your VERY VEST decision, .. and I wish you MUCH HAPPINESS!!!! 😍

Interesting. I get them from wearing waterproof mascara.

I'm not sure how to get rid of it. The last time I did consultation few years ago, the practitionner told me it's untreatable. I highly doubt it's untreatable...

Plus, I learned years ago, the only real solution to my under eye puffiness is surgery. Add allergies, and I am a mess during peak allergy seasons. Thank for confirmation, on what I already had determined was my best options. I see my eye doctor in a couple weeks to discuss the best person for the procedure. I appreciate your precise and concise delivery, your integrity, and your nice manner. Blessings 🕊💕🕯😇🙏🏻💚
Hopefully you did not get surgery yet. I saw on a RUclips commercial where a lady developed a sticky patch to put in the eyelid crease and voila no drooping eyelids!
I've heard and saw some ladies who had blepharoplasty to improve the blockage that lids can cause.
My allergies were also worsening my melasma. Getting a robot vacuum REALLY helped. It runs everyday on a schedule. I also launder my bedding more often because of pets.

I've noticed that the lack of the proper amount of daily sleep(for me) is the main cause of my under eye bags. If I get less than 6 hours per night or if the sleep is broken(waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle) then my under eye area is negatively affected.
Love that you started with natural treatments and addressed the genetic component
What are your thoughts on why they help?
I'm 75 & wore contact lenses from age 15 to my thirties, when I had an early form of "lasik", i.e. radial kerotomy, which allowed me to go without corrective lenses, at least partially!
However, I always felt that the decades of pulling down my eyelids to insert contacts, led me to have premature 'baggy eyelids'! So, I believe other factors, beside heredity, can affect
the tightness of your eyelids!
You're absolutely right, this is the reason!
I had RK surgery too. It wasn’t the best idea for me. But how could we know back in 1994.
Thx about the info about the creams with retinol

I really love your honesty and clarity with this video! I've been searching all over for help and this gave me some hope. Thank you!
