      I got it to work by using the Spigen case not the guide that comes with it, the black borders aren't a problem now, I agree tho it's a bad design with the black border

    You know, tempered glass screen covers are designed to shatter at a certain impact kind of like crumple zones on a car. An extremely shatter resistant screen protector isn't necessarily better

    • @jack_grylls
      @jack_grylls 7 месяцев назад +7

      I wish more people knew this, the whole point is for the protector to take the impact

    • @johnjingleheimersmith9259
      @johnjingleheimersmith9259 4 месяца назад +1

      Not exactly. Screen protectors are not cars. As long as the impact is fully distributed across the majority of the screen protector, then it is doing its job. Just because it isn't shattering doesn't mean it's worse. At least you know that you won't have to replace your screen protector. If your screen protector isn't breaking, more than likely your screen won't either. How many times has anyone ever seen a screen protector survive and the underlying screen shatter instead? I'm gonna guess next to no one has. Certainly I'm no saying it's not possible, though I'm not sure one that could even exists.

    • @lShishkaBerryl
      @lShishkaBerryl 27 дней назад

      I saw a post on Reddit today that said the protector didn't break but the screen did lol, I've seen it a handful of times over the years. They don't usually go to the very edge so a corner impact can get to the screen without even touching the protector if there's no case on the phone.

  • @JRyoutube09

    thank you for taking the time to do this. Going forward may I make a suggestion on your technique. To reduce the risk of dust getting trapped under the screen protector. When ready to put it on before peeling off the protective layer, hold it low and close to the phone already. You seem to always hold the screen protector and removing the protective film like a foot above the phone. When you do this, the higher you have it equals more distance you need to put it down, and on the way risks getting dust trapped on the adhesive part. Start lower, remove the film right above the screen and then put it down. less chance of dust in the air getting trapped on the sticky part.

    • @JRyoutube09
      @JRyoutube09 8 месяцев назад +1

      you could even just peel off a bit off the top to start, and put on your phone align it first, and then slide off the film while simultaneously pressing down on top of the protector as you go sliding off the film underneath.... (get it?)

    That's what I call in-depth. Many thanks. I see lots of complaints about the black borders on the Spigen and Caseology ones (surely they are identical anyway as Spigen owns Caseology). I wonder what possessed someone to decide to put a black border on them in the first place, it beggars belief. Amfilm looks like the one I'd choose.

    I have the Spigen screen protector but I am considering one that doesn't have the black border. I will say though that no matter the price every single pack should give you atleast two screen protectors, it's pretty bogus that some of the more expensive ones only give you one.

    Great review on a lot of different choices! A couple of the older popular brands surprised me. I was hoping you were going to do a drop test on the Whitestone Dome Glass protector. I put one on my wife's new Pixel 8 Pro yesterday and was very disappointed that I couldn't find any videos or decent instructions for the install. It worked out fine, but was a bit nerve wracking. I noticed yours came in a Pixel 7 Pro box just like the one we ordered for my wife. I hope hers works as well as the one I put on my own Pixel 6 Pro nearly 2 years ago. Thanks again for the extensive testing.

    Project Farm meets Jerry Rig Everything - nice. Were these tested with the _screen protector mode_ in the display settings turned on or off? In future videos, it might prove fruitful to compare the functionality of any fingerprint scanner or front-facing camera (when covered) with the screen protector mode activated AND deactivated, before issuing a software-level rating, since it _is_ plausible that the results _could_ vary depending on the setting. It is also quite likely that some viewers may have their settings configured differently than your test device, which could lend an experience that is not consistent with your testing. At the very least, simply mentioning what your device settings are at the time of testing would help mitigate _some_ real-world inconsistencies. Just food for thought. Moreover, regarding the _White Dome premium tempered glass screen protector_ : you scratch tested _before_ a drop test was performed, whereas with all the others you scratch tested afterwards. Initially, I was thinking it isn't wise to scratch test prior to a drop test, as a damaged surface could potentially affect the results of the drop test (being tempered glass), and considered that it may have been an incidental omission... But then a drop test never occurred. Just out of curiosity, why _wasn't_ the _White Dome premium screen protector_ drop tested? Lastly... And I hate to be THAT guy, but some rooms are too small for some elephants... Band-Aid + thumb, please. 🍻

    People said to avoid the AmFilm due to the edges not sticking, yet i didn't notice that in the video.
    I'm using the Ringke tempered glass and the edges do not stick. I figured I'd just leave it for now so i have something protecting the screen. Hopefully some of the companies release an improved product in the upcoming months.

    • @vipergod2000
      @vipergod2000 11 месяцев назад

      My Ringke sat perfectly. It could be your method of application, take time to press out all the bubbles from the center outward and hopefully it should be good. Nevertheless the pack comes with 2 so perhaps within a year (which are usually the lifespan of these things) then swap out to the new one.

    • @EpicRiftPvP
      @EpicRiftPvP 11 месяцев назад

      @vipergod2000 My first try was off, but the second is perfectly straight judging by the alignment with the front camera, both edges do not stick, zero bubbles otherwise.

    Actually I don't know if the Samcorn it's a better option compared to the other screen protectors. I mean the scope of a screen protector is to avoid damages to the original one, so better energy absorption, better protection. If the samcorn breaks at higher energy, it can mean two things: or it has better energy absorption properties (it absorbs more energy) or actually it is flexing/deforming more than the others (so it trasmits some of this energy to the display below). A more accurate test would be to have a force sensor just below the screen protector to see how much force is applied to the phone display

      It would have been great if he found a way to keep dropping it higher so that we did eventually find the break point, and what type of break/crack would occur. But in the absence of that information, it probably makes more sense to buy the screen protector that doesn't crack at 6ft vs the ones that do.

    The Ringke camera protector is oleophobic, it avoids smudges and fingerprints very well. Before I tried a OMOTON (not sure the brand matters it seems like this has clones under many names) and the camera protector had more fingerprints than the FBI - it picked up smudges just by looking at it. No point in buying the best camera phone to have your shots ruined by dirty optics.
    Another point to note, many camera protectors don't have a opening for the rear facing microphone!

    Zagg... $60 for a screen protector 🤣 sorry, but anyone who pays that literally has no concept of what they're actually buying.

    You went over a ton of screen protectors and skipped the case-mate that is sold by Google directly... =(

    • @Sleventv
      @Sleventv 10 месяцев назад

      Yeah it's being sold yet it is out of stock since the pixel 8 release.... At least for the NL and DE store, waiting to use the phone till I have a screenprotector so I'm just gonna use something other than the gstore casemate... You use it? Any good?

    • @BadgerDog42
      @BadgerDog42 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Sleventv yeah I've got it on now. Kind of wish it was a hair longer (like a mm or two) but other than that zero complaints. Feels great, looks great, works great. Also have the official camera glass protector on and it's even closer to perfection (aside from being a touch hard to apply as there's no guide for it). If you get it on just right though it's such a perfect fit you have to angle the phone to even know it's there.

      @@BadgerDog42 thanks I might give it another week, literally daily refreshing the store to see if it's on stock. What case you got on? Trying to get my hands on that superthin mous case!

      @@Sleventvno worries bud. Yeah I wanted that same case but needed sometime for now so I grabbed a ringke fusion matte case and frankly I love it so I'll probably stick with it. I use magnetic mounts all over (not magsafe) and found that a small metal plate just below the camera bump still works to mount it but doesn't interfere (to an appreciable degree, I'm sure it's slightly less efficient) with wireless charging. I have the official Google charge dock and it still works fine.

    I'm confused by why people are hating on the spigen.. the borders land on where the bezels are. It's not blocking any of my screen?

    • @Erza69
      @Erza69 11 месяцев назад +3

      at around 12:01 you are able to see the ring light for face id cut off by the border, though doesn't interfere with the selfie camera, which many people don't like because it means they are losing screen real estate even if it is just a minimal amount, a loss is a loss.

    • @20dvince
      @20dvince 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Erza69I have this protector installed and my ring light is not cut off. I don't think I'm losing out on any of my screen, and those black edges will help mask any dust or debris. Fingerprints are minimal and it survived the 6 foot drop.

    You have an expensive glass covering the cameras and you opt for a cheesy $9 plastic over the cameras for protection lol what a waste lol good luck in getting the best out of the cameras now.

      If you read reviews, a lot of people are seeing scratches on their Pixel 8s after only 1-2 months. So it makes sense to use a screen protector.
