In this video, Rochelle , Ellie and Debbie are experimenting with different ways to put roots into a wig. First, they use a short blond wig and try spraying the hair with low alcohol hair spray and then applying dark brown powdered eyeshadow. They try it with a paint brush, Q-tip and tooth brush to see the best application. This method is not permanent and will wash out easily. Next, they use Copic permanent markers on a short white wig. The light grey and dark grey markers give a great rooted look. This method is permanent and will not wash out. Last, they try two different root concealer sprays on a monofilament pageboy wig. This method is permanent and will not wash out. Overall, they found three great ways to add roots to your wigs, whether you want something temporary or permanent!

This demo was so interesting and valuable info. I have seen so many people on uTube adding rooting to wigs and some of them get so wild, crazy & do it so quickly that I can’t even tell what they’re doing! Thank you for your slow, methodical approach. I could follow what you were doing and you made me feel I could do it. Your helpers added such a fun “anyone can do this” aspect to the demo that added a true realism to the whole process and made it less “scary”. Thank you for creating such helpful content. Keep it coming! 😘

As for blue hair - I don't know about other regions but here in SC, I was told "Blue Haired Ladies" were the wives of morticians of course, this is the south and they can tell some doozies here. As I understand it though blue rinse was supposed to be used to tone-down grey hair when it yellows like makeup primers we use for skin tone. Not sure what causes the yellowing though.

I hold my breath, spray, walk away from the area, then blend with my finger tips. It does leave a residue but also plumps up my hair so it's all good! My grandmother used to use Nestle’s capsules of blue hair dye from the dime store to tone her white hair. They needed to be dissolved in hot water before pouring through the hair. Occasionally she wouldn’t get the dye completely dissolved and would end up with blue/purple spots in the back of her hair where she didn’t see them. Hence the “blue haired lady”.😂😂😂

    • @GodivasSecretWigs

I did not notice anything different to the fibers. I did wash them to see if the roots would stay or not, so I can't guarantee over time that anything would change or not. I suggest to try an old wig - I would play with the eye shadow and hair spray over it myself! xo Ro

I just rooted and retoned a color disaster wig (absolutely NOT a Godiva!!!) that was well made but was completely unnatural looking... think mustard and apricot jam. :D I used a combination of wood touch-up markers ($10 for 6 shades, 4 of which were useful), Sharpies and Marks-a-Lot in various shades of browns and red-brown tones. It did lose a tiny bit of color with the first wash, but I think it'll last through several washes bf I need to retouch it again. The Blue Hairs... ladies in my family used Mrs. Stewart's Laundry bluing diluted as a rinse to counter the yellowing in their mousey gray hair... use too much and you have a blue cast to your hair.

This video has me laughing out loud. I'm trying a different thing with my dark wigs These days the contrast just too harsh for me. SO??? Well, you know how much I love the silvers, so I'm putting silver strands in my dark wigs! I KNOW you want to know what my most successful technique is, AAAANNNDD (drum roll)
DecoColor Premium Oil Based Opaque Metallic Paint Markers!
This works if you want a few silver strands or very small streaks here and there. CAVEATS: Important!! This is PERMANENT. It will not wash out. Also, it's not for roots or anything where you want great swaths of color. For that I use regular acrylic paints, and I prefer a stiffer paint brush. CAVEAT THE SECOND: This is a very time-consuming process. Do it when you don't have anything pressing for the day. I'm pleased with what I got and am now planning to try it with the gold and copper colors for a sun-kissed look.
I tried the first two techniques myself and wasn't satisfied with my outcome, however I really like the results you got with the spray. Very soft and subtle, and very quick application. I will try that one on one of my too-light blondes. SUGGESTION: If you're sensitive to aerosols (and as an asthmatic I AM) get yourself an inexpensive packet of filter masks. They keep the worst of the gases out of your lungs.
Now I have a question about your technique. You're most scrupulous about avoiding alcohol in your hairspray, but are using a tremendously strong alcohol for the paint job. How much damage with that amount of chemical do? Also, what can you do to mitigate that damage? Will Keep It Sleek or Vivace help?
As always, it's a pleasure to see Ellie and Debbie. Someday I hope to meet them. This was so much fun! Sending love. ❤

I don't know Diane!!! That is, about the alcohol. I figured it would be a one time use... In my own spare time (none right now) I will look into that...xoxoxo
Love what you shared that worked for you, excellent!!! Ro xo
