That year was a cracking summer with a fantastic gig. As a 15 year old boy I couldn't have wished for anything more. MPH ✊✊✊✊

I was one of the lucky ones that won a ticket in the raffle. The day passed by in a blur: brilliant act after brilliant act. It was a glorious summers day where anything seemed possible and we were in the centre of the world. This feels like, and was, a different age before social media, RUclips, smartphones etc. The last hurrah of an era of superstars making real music and that ageless era of British greats like Macca, Elton, George, Sting, Floyd all having died or now being in their twilight years. Britain still a powerhouse musically which it isn’t any more. A more optimistic, open country at the centre of Europe and world affairs, confident to take part unlike the paranoid, diminished place it is now. This type of event would feel hollow in London now and could only take place in NY or LA. The final chapter of Cool Britannia and the 90’s which swiftly lead to a massive financial crash and a decade of decay.

I went past Hyde Park during sound check and watched some of this (Madonna and Paul McCartney). I would have stayed but was on my way to a Peter Frampton concert, which was excellent of course. The next morning, I rode my bike to Hyde Park and held up a sign I'd made, asking for a spare ticket (you couldn't get them ANYWHERE. They removed all listings from Ebay etc. You could only get them if you entered the draw and were lucky.) Well, someone in line gave me a ticket. I stood on the same spot for 13 hours straight. Rode my bike home after the Who followed by Pink Floyd. Highlight of my concert-going life, and I've been to a lot!!!

You went home after Pink Floyd? Paul McCartney came on after Pink Floyd. I`ve seen him live twice and he is amazing. You missed out if you didn`t catch Paul. But Pink Floyd was of course fantastic to watch. I tried to get tickets, but it was impossible.
@@yellyman5483 oh hell no! I didn’t leave until everyone left. It’s funny but I don’t remember Paul coming on after. Memory is just blurred after all these years. Didn’t he open the whole thing too, with U2? I remember hearing Sergeant Pepper’s playing while I was running to get into the venue after I stashed my bike. You’re right - impossible to get tickets but I’m so glad I took a punt and headed to the park anyway (had nothing to lose). A lot of people left after Robbie Williams because they didn’t run the tubes late and I remember thinking that was insane to not have late trains in a big city like that.
@@Tonisuperfly Paul opened and closed the show. He performed Sgt. Peppers with U2, and ended the show with a solo set, including a duet with George Michael. They did "Drive my car" together.. Amazing concert.. July 2nd is my birthday so i remember it well. I watched it on tv, but i tried really hard to get tickets..I`ve seen Paul McCartney, Elton John and Rolling Stones live, but Paul was something special.. The best show i`ve ever seen in my life. He did mostly Beatles songs, so everybody was singing along on every number.

I remember being really excited about this event. I luvd the Live Aid 85' stayed up most of the nite watching it on t.v. in Australia. Boy was I bummed and pissed off this event wasn't televised it was internet only!! I only had dial up.. it was bloody awful. Gave up trying to watch it not 1hr in.

7.14 poor young Chris Martin seems to make a very quick exit as soon as Macca comes to shower his presence on everyone. Can imagine it must be quite intimidating as a new band/artist meeting the old school greats that you grew up listening to.

He asked if he could write a book, and I gave him my blessing. "If I Can Dream" is the title and I like his book. He had filled my head with spiritual thoughts and made me believe we could pull this off. If I had stayed longer I think I would have been booed off the stage. That is why I chose the date 8-16-77. Do you know how many famous people passed away on that date? The great Robert Johnson died on 8-16 and he was born in 1935! Babe Ruth, and Bela Lugosi and many others. I must say I was very nervous that day 8-16. But it had to be done before I went on the road where I would not have been able to pull it off. Did you know there are secret compartments in Graceland that very few people know about! A few like Vester would joke about my being alive but no one took him serious. Many of my friends would ask if I were still alive and they have their doubts but as it was I might have died broke and just a shell of myself. I was given an injection that looked like I was dead but the people closest to me knew better. Believe me I had my doubts that this could be pulled off. But it did and I became Jesse, just a poor white southern boy who didn't sing a lick of anything. I feel bad my Daddy wasn't allowed to know but it just couldn't be done. There was a $25 billion pledge after this for aid to Africa. Nobody knows if this was ever followed up. Nobody knows where the merchandising and ticket revenue went either.

Very rarely do drummers tune to a key. Normally, they tune to a pitch based on the bass being the lowest and snare being the highest drums.
