This is ancient Chinese mythology but also based on Chinese Zen/Tao/Philosophy. To appreciate the deeper meanings hidden behind all those details in the game, one could check out the Chinese novel “A journey to the west” or the Chinese Zen Book “How to be Happy: the Wisdom to Attain Happiness and Success by Constructing an Invincible Mind”.

goku is based on sun wukong not the other way around. :D
but sun wukong never had a magical cloud moving him around. instead sun wukong learn a mighty air dash technic in his younder years. not sure what the engl translation of "the journey west" (a collection of books/storys all about sun wukong) calls it but probably something like the "cloud leap", sun wukong pushes off from clouds and covers several 10,000km in a single jump that way, lazy animaters gave him the nimbus cloud so they did not have to animate the leaps. :D

nobody thinks hes based on goku . everyone knows goku was modeled after him, they just get reminded of goku, u know ...since goku is such a prevalent character in media? so what if he didnt have a cloud follow him, they obviously changed that for the dragon ball series for goku, its called creative freedom.

That Buddha's head of the headless budha singer, like many other Buddha heads, was stolen and now exhibits in London museum. Most scenery in the game actually exist in shan-xi, China. it is souls like, not everything has to be EXACLY like dark souls to be called souls like, hell even elden ring is different from the dark souls games. the term souls like was coined based on the type of general gameplay. basically, high difficulty with committed attacks on ur end, plus dodging and parrying, even tho this concept in games is not new, dark souls created the new staplestone of the standard in the examples i've given, hell even the newer god of war adopted more souls like gameplay over its original style, hence making the game way harder than its predecessors, i dont remember having the difficulty of learning dodging patterns to the standard dark souls set in old god of war games. old god of war difficulty was more in the platforming, and now wu kong feels exactly the same....like im playing dark souls, not old god of war. If it very much feels like dark souls , its souls like sorry. i didn't forget those games existed, its just that dark souls set the new standard of gameplay in those types of games. did wu kong take some from god of war? absolutely, im sure it took form other successful games as well, but its core fundamentals are copied by the more successful of the genre, which is dark souls, therefore most game developers will adopt the souls like standard more often that not, it sells. I mean why wouldn't they? its smart , they are learning from a developer that got 3 game of the year awards and u expect me to believe they didnt take the core fundamentals of dark souls over other games that are alike? sorry its souls like get over it. every one is sick of hearin souls like like u , but it doesent change that with evry succeful game , the masses of game developers will mostly copy it.
