Dude, you saved my life with this tutorial! Recently I've discovered Kavita - Jellyfin analogue for books and comics and struggled with installation using Docker. I could not access my folders in Windows and your video filled all the gaps. I've installed Jellyfin first following your guide and then made some adjustments for Kavita based on your instructions and it finally worked! Thanks a lot, hope you'll gain a bigger audience soon. Liked and subscribed! :)
@@arapitech well. That's weird. Everything was working just fine and the next day Jellyfin can't access my hardrive with media files. Reinstalling Jellyfin is not working at all. The same happened with Kavita. Is it because i store all my media on the external hard drive?
@@arapitech Nevermind. My external drive is indeed a problem. I changed my media folder to built in ssd and it worked. Which is weird cause Plex is working fine with my external HDD
@@Gaverb Usually if two or more services are affected, there is a common denominator causing the issue. In this case it's the external hard drive. Not sure why though.
@@arapitech i suspect that the file system of the hard drive is somehow damaged. Widows is constantly trying to "fix" it but it works fine for other apps.
Excellent video, easy to follow. I was struggling with installing Jellyfin via the GUI and linking the paths to my media - docker compose seems to be the way to go :)
If you are on linux, and you can't access to the port 8096, try to "docker compose up" without the -d. That can help you to show what it's wrong. I just pend 2 hours of this because I didn't know the error of my folder didn't let jellyfin to write a new folders...
Thanks for the video! I’ve been trying to use this one in conjunction with another on creating a stack for all my media server items. It’s been a day as I can’t, for the life of me, get it to deploy. First, I had the issues with the user/group id’s and got that solved, but what I’ve really been struggling with is getting it to accept the volumes. Was there anything you did from docker or portainer before hand so that this would be accepted as valid paths?
I'm trying to learn docker right now. So any app we want to run in docker requires these steps? I know people are saying it's easy, but seems tedious compared to one click installs and having an interface to browse and connect folders. But I will give this a shot.
Thank you very much! Quick note; if your running container for first time leave port out of YAML. It will error otherwise and won’t run, then stop the container and add ports to YAML then restart and all set! Thanks again. Is it easy to change those file paths in YAML file. I want to move them to different file path but don’t want to mess it up now that it is working right lol
Hmm I didn't seem to have that issue, but I'll keep that in mind if I encounter it. Like and subscribe! If you want me to make a video on anything just let me know :)
I had the same issue, I found a stackoverflow thread that suggested to *use spaces instead of tabs*. It's working now. Apparently tabs are not permitted by YAML spec.
Works great, but how can i set permission if my movies-music etc folders are on external nas?I map those folders in file explorer (ie F:/) but i dunno how to set the permission into the nas itself.
Got it running in the browser by using network=bridge, but I can no longer see the server from my other devices (like I did when I had Jellyfin running without Docker). The manual says I have to use network=host, but that won't run in the browser. This Docker thing is still new to me, so my understanding is limited.
Just noticed in the documentation the network=host is Linux only, and I'm on a Mac.

Thankyou for the guide. However, it does not read my media folder, and not sure where is the issue. Procmon does not show any process trying to access the folder.

So I found it. The issue is I was trying to mount mapped network drive and it seems it does not work. Is there a way to access network location like \\IP.Address\path\folder ?
@You need to mount the network share to your Jellyfin host and then point Jellyfin at the local mountpoint. Jellyfin doesn't support mounting remote filesystems directly
Perfeito.
I followed the directions but getting an error. Literally the first tutorial about this topic that worked for me ty
Great video. i couldn't set it up for the life of me and this helped.
Thanks. This is a decent tutorial on Docker compose in general, on top of being relevant for Jellyfin specifically.
Thanks a lot for your video. With your help I managed to configure.
Amazing video. After lots of trying finally it was so easy to do it with your video.
Thanks to you
Thank for this tutorial, very easy for a beginner. Keep it going with ur tutorials
Thank you, more to come!

when is your next video coming
What tutorial would you like to see next?
@@arapitech I would like a video on how to setup open mediavault on Docker Desktop and how to set up jellyfin inside that openmediavault

Bro my issue now is that i cant add the movies in the jellyfin idk why, it doesnt shows me the library as it shows to u
Tried for like 40 minutes. Nothing showed in library. Removed the RO (Read only) and it worked for me. No idea why....
I got some issues how to open or access the jellyfin outside home network
I'll make my next tutorial on this! Stay tuned.
It's really very confusing for me to use Jellyfin. It never seems to run on my mobile even after opening port 8096, making it private blah blah.
great and simple
When I do docker ps its stuck on restarting (133)
you really saved my ass
Thx a lot ! :)
You're welcome!
i am getting this error try run docker-compose
yaml: line 12: did not find expected '-' indicator
what can i do for this to run jellyfin in docker
make sure you dont have a tab added, add space instead.
I followed the directions but getting an error. Any idea
