WWII spitfires take off for 27,000 mile flight around the world

  • AN ICONIC restored WW2 Spitfire has taken to the skies again for the first time in sixty years on a remarkable around-the-world record flight attempt.
    Known as the "Silver Spitfire," this distinctive fighter-plane is still made up of 90 per cent of its original materials and has a unique bare-metal appearance to show off its iconic shape.
    Two British pilots, Matt Jones and Steve Brooks, take off in spitfires aiming to fly around the world.

    I saw the silver spitfire at Duxford flying legends airshow last month. I got a lovely photo of it. It's a work of art, all the effort that has gone into restoring it has been very worthwhile 👍

    I know I've said it in the comments in other videos, but to aviation fans there are few sights more evocative than the shape of the Spitfire wing.

    Come on it was the almost forgotten Hawker Hurricane that saved the battle of Britain.

      True. There were more Hurricanes than Spitfires during Battle of Britain because Hurricanes were simple enough to be produced in great quantities .

    Once has a chrome plated steel model spitfire. May have been used for war games
