    Agreed - A single viewing is not enough. I've returned to this video several times and my ONLY complaint is that it could be much longer. In this chaotic world, it's such a relief to see civilized people comporting themselves in a civil manner in such a beautiful place. Thanks...

      Tangier never come under english rule (same with portuguese), most of tangier city was under rule of arab and saadian/alouite rifi forces and berbers, including all of its medina, all of its past history. English ruled small portion section of tangier suburbs.

    There was a huge gay community in Tangiers in times when it was not well received in Europe and Tangiers was more liberal about it. Let´s be clear that a lot of these guys went there for this reason.

    • @silverkitty2503
      @silverkitty2503 3 года назад +3

      That is NOT true my friend and you would NOT want to be gay in tangiers today.

    • @jaeluxe
      @jaeluxe 3 года назад +8

      I wouldn’t say Tangiers was liberal. Rather leaders of that time realized rich British men would spend money there because they got go have fun with the local men. So they let it be. But it got to be a very well known secret and eventually when conservative religious leaders came into power they put a stop to that.

      @@silverkitty2503 I don’t see the relevance in your reply to Hypatia. Hypatia was quite clear in using the past tense in all his comment -“was”; “was”; “was”; “was”; “went”. He/she made no comment about current attitudes. Therefore your criticism of Hypatia is wholly inaccurate.

    These are absolutely wonderful houses that show how of connoisseurs their owners are.
    I adored every house and I'm curious to look at the details of each and every house and listen to the stories behind it.
    They didn't lie when they said that your house shows your identity to the world. And these are not boring identities indeed.
    Also I don't know if it's him or I'm mistaken, but I think I've met the gentleman named Francisco three or four weeks ago at "l'âakba d l'koumir" and he cleared the way and said "smahli" with a bright smile. Lol

    I was in Jonathan Dawson’s apt some years ago. It a quite something in its decor and so opposite Paul Bowles’ unpretentious apt. And the cock was still galavanting about. Jonathan, by the way, was in Anthony Bourdain’s video on Tangier. That was amusing, Jonathan in the video regaling Anthony at the Café Tingis while the usual ex-pat characters were in the background. Tangier has changed immensely from the 70s but the kasbah and Medina still have some authenticity. And at the end of this video, Blanca Hamri, bless her heart, was at the American School when I came to apply to work when Mc Phillips was headmaster. She seemed anxious for me to meet McPhillips though I later declined the job offer. I just looked Blanca up and discovered she died last year. Almost all I’ve known there have passed. Such memories.
