No, I’m not here for sport mode. I’m here for comfort mode. It sucks that most reviewers stereotype all consumers to be juvenile, fast and furious wannabes. Most consumers who are buying this car are adult professionals who want a relaxing, comfortable, and stylish car to drive home into. And no, we won’t be doing slaloms on the freeway during rush hour, after a long and tedious 8hr work day. Reviewers should not neglect COMFORT in reviewing luxury cars. All this sport focus reviews are getting annoying.
I know I'm in the minority, but the only reason I was looking at the 2018 5 Series is due to the fact that they have re-designed it for more comfort as opposed to sportiness. I'd also like some reviewers to address the ride and comfort aspect of the new 5's. After driving one, I've put in my order!
Well, that means you can't tell the difference between a BMW, Audi, Lexus or whatever. Perhaps you have no idea about what BMW stands for or how they initially have become a premium brand. What he means by "we're here for sport-mode" is: "if we want THIS particular premium brand (which is known for its sportiness), we are definitely looking for sport mode because we know what we want". If you are looking for comfort as decision main-criteria and you're watching BMW videos, you are in the wrong place. Search for Lexus or Mercedes-Benz.
Alexander A with you 200%! What I don't understand is what ppl have against comfort and a soft suple relaxing ride. When did feeling every single crevis on a damn road become the purpose of driving. Personally I love the sporty design but hate the sporty ride. If I wanted a sporty ride id get a gt3 or gt3 rs. In a 5 series or e class we want comfort!
Been driving a loaner 530xi for nearly a week now.... and I love it. Owned a E28 and E34 for over 20 yrs. Great in their own ways, styling, feel, sound, handling etc..... but I would easily take this 2018 over either of the other fives. It's such a pleasant, comfortable, superbly balanced, and economical car. Great styling and comfort, and fits me very well. It is big though. Like really big. It's as long as a E32 735i, and heavier (but you don't notice the weight that much). My E34 looks and feels like a older 3 in comparison. It's going to hard to give this car back. Also loved the 2018 X3 too. Absolutely right about the engine, you'd never know it was a 4. So smooth and quiet. More so than my M50. And more powerful and economical. Got 42 mpg hwy, and city driving in a 1 hr. trip. Best car I've driven since the X3. It is not as fully-loaded as this car, and has plenty of seat adjustments. I do wish BMW, and a lot of other car makers, would put just a little more padding/foam in their seat cushions. And auto-wipers that were more sensitive to rain. Lastly, it would be nice to have 3 dimming mirrors that covered the entire glass - annoying having the 1/16" perimeter/frame of light glare. Minor things, for an otherwise, superb vehicle.
Just bought a 540 xdrive and immediately took it on a 4200km road trip through Alberta and British Columbia. This car is almost perfect, (despite a green engine) very powerful, very smooth and very comfortable. Averaged 8L per 100km. First got excited about this car from Motoman's review and Wow was it a good decision to buy this car.
Compared to the 540i you drove 6 mounts ago this 530i does not have the Msport package. That's what's missing in the design and that's why the 540i looked better to you.
I'm from the UK so I would go for the 530e. This is the difference of about £300 a month in company car tax between the 530e and 530i to me!!! As someone has said the 140i/240i is amounts the best of the beemers at the moment, in no small part because it is such a bargain. So much car for so little cash. Winner!
You gave us a great question and i will give you a "great" answer. I did choose the 530D. Why? Great fuel economy (5,7 l/100 km). and yes, "KEIN Sparmodus". Great performance with 620NM. Will be accepted for Euro 6D (due to 86 mg NOX, less than 10% over the requirements) and will be allowed in German cities where Diesel cars might be forbidden. I can admit that the 5 Series looks could be more aggressive but with the M Sport Performance package it looks ok (my subjectiv opinion). Now i am waiting for the perfomance kit which will enhance the engine mapping (from 265HK to 292HK) and include a swap to a bigger aircooler. I don't know if the 530D is available i the US but i can asure you, its a great car (even without "Das Spiel der Optionen")!
I sat in the showroom 540 a few days ago and spent quite a while with it -- while my car was in for service. It is one hell of a nice car. I wish they put that much quality into their more pedestrian cars, like the 3 series (which I own), and which feels like a piece of junk next to this thing. Anyway, the optional seats were insanely comfortable -- loved them-- would certainly spend the money for those!!! BUT yes, the outside is VERY BLAND! They need to fix that. Even the M-sport package looks bland on this thing.
I had a choice and I chose the 540i. The 6 cylinder power is intoxicating to put it midly. As an owner of an E39 530i and a previous F10 535i the G30 is a vast improvement over that model i.e. handling, build quality, performance, tech, etc.
To answer your question about handsomeness/uglyness? I think that the 530i you drove looks good enough. Its the 530 with the M Sport appearance package that better stands out! Any BMW model in an M-Sport looks much better.
I have the 530 with the M sport package - carbon black metallic. Looks black at night and blue during the day - black grill and black vents .. love it 😍 butttttt if I had to choose between the 530 or 540 - I’ll take a 6 cylinder any day of the week …
540i M Sport. Fuel efficiency is less important to me compared to the added power of the 6-cylinder. But then again I would have to drive the 530i myself. I love my buddy's E61 535i wagon.
I have to say that this model is both very attractive AND handsome, if there can be such a distinction. I found the turbo 4 cylinder with the 5 series to be very responsive, but then again I'm not looking for THAT much speed with the other engine options. I would be quite comfortable driving this, either on those beautiful roads in northern Virginia or out here in crazy California.
David Wolf, I drive a range of vehicles every week. For starters I have an E92 M3 with the V8, X5 XDrive40e, and a work truck with a base V6. I thoroughly enjoy the BMW 4 cylinder in our X5 XDrive40e and it definitely has enough power. There is a time for the 400+hp V8's and a time for the work truck but I find myself jumping in the X5 more than the other vehicles I own.

I own a 2017 BMW 530i and I agree it's not ugly but it doesn't stand out. It easily blends in with the other cars on road with the sweeping lines. The 4 cylinder is great except when you have 4 full size adults. With that being said I would have should have chosen the 540 (6-Cyclinder). You can feel the engine working harder vs when I drive it alone. It's a great daily driver and very quiet with a lot of tech.
Why does he keep on saying “we’re not here for comfort mode”? I don’t think people who are checking out the 5 series are all drag racers. So why is he generally assuming that we’re not here for comfort but sportiness? Another sport biased reviewer, thinking that all consumers are race car drivers wannabes.
Good review! M package definitely looks better because of the aggressiveness. Real Sports mode is M5, real eco mode is 530e. They put all modes just make the buyer feel better value paying $55-60k. This is the model of one size fits 99% users. I understand his own opinions, this road is for sports mode.
530i for the rear wheel drive and the fact that we don't get the 540 in India. But we do get the 530d I6 diesel and that's a beast with unrelenting 630 Nm (some 470 lb-ft) of torque!!
The "look" of this adapts with options. Looking at a 4 cylinder but with some nice shadowline grille options ($300) and wheel upgrades. In Miami city traffic, it drove very well. Currently have a 550 (too much car for a city) but this drove VERY well. Something to stress- "do you walk away from your car, turn around, and think- darn, thats attractive?!" With the right upgrades on this G30, I think the answer is YES.
20 months on my 30 month lease and I love this car so much, I am tempted to buy the car at end of lease. It simply drives smoothly and has power when I need it. Solid as a BMW. Very happy with this 530 2018.
Certainly a favorable review, but calling it ugly is a bit of a stretch, especially since most people considered the F10 (admitting to bias, since I own one) a reasonably handsome car. I can understand how some might be bored with this style by now. I do agree they could have used a little more imagination on the refresh, but still overall better than most cars I see on the road.
I, too, own an F10 and have been a little meh at this one's styling. It's not ugly but kind of boring because well I expected a little more design rather than going towards the everybody appeal style. I guess it is as he says they are trying to sell more cars. I have a coworker who just got one and upon going to the parking lot forgetting where I parked I had to do a double take because of the headlights. Not the same but too damn close...then again I guess it keeps my car looking young lol.
So the fact that I own a BMW X5 XDrive40e and love it, I would choose the 530e. I really like the power delivery especially right from 0 rmp. You comment about the 4 cylinder engine is dead on, you don't even notice. You have plenty of power for that large of a vehicle and oh by the way, our lifetime mpg for our X5 XDrive40e is 27 mpg over 5000 miles! And no, we do not drive conservatively 🤣 Great video thanks for the info cheers!
I like the way it looks - a lot! What I do NOT like is their pricing strategy. They effin nickle and dime ya to death. I'd choose the 540i because I love that engine. I'd get a M240i over both if they looked better on the inside. They are drab at best.
I'd chose the 530i because I'm in Europe and petrol isn't cheap. In the US, I'd buy the 540i. Currently drive a Macan S Diesel after 3 BMW's and can say now that my next car will be a BMW. Either the new X3 or this 5 series.
I think you need to see the 530i out of the US context and more as a necessity for the european market (and others i presume). Taxes and petrol prices are much higher here and taxes often go hand in hand with co2 emissions. Also for the professional leasing that will slowly go away from diesel to petrol/hybride and electric. 1 Gallon of petrol (95octane) would cost 5,20$ in my country. (98 octane would be 6,87$/gallon). The difference here in private use comes down to petrol price. Just to give a quick example : a 530i would cost 343€ (409$)to register and 376€ (449$) in annual roadtax. (double the numbers of the 530i for a 540i) a 550i would cost 3.146€ (3755$) to register and 2.538€ (3030$) in annual tax. In case you wonder what a V12 would cost: 760i : 10.928€ (13044$) to register and 4279€ (5107$) in annual tax. I would choose the 540i with the heart but the rational brain says to pick the 530i.
MotoMan: Thanks for a super good BMW rating. No doubt here - 6 or 8 cylinders will always be my choice. I have a BMW 530i e39 from 2002 and apart from the seats - here in this car - I think my old BMW is a more handsome car. IMO, the 5 Series E39 will go into history as the most timeless BMW. In my country - Denmark - we have probably the most expensive cars in the world because of a tower high charge to the state. (So we have many small cars) A bit of fun, even though I'm 66, I can allow myself to be a BMW fanboy. (Big smile) Dansk: Hilser alle BMW ejere i verden.
I’d much rather drive the 6th Gen 5 series than the 7th. The looks are much better‼️ Looks a little chunky compared to the new one, but in this case, chunky is good.
Enjoyed the episode . I narrowed my new car purchase to a E400 coupe, BMW 540i (M550i) and Audi S5 and choose the 2018 Audi. I have had All 4 german brands and my other vehicles are a 2012 991 C2S, my wife drives a 2016 GLE 350 and my son drives a 2013 A5. I loved the exterior of the E400 but not the interior.. I was OK with the BMW interior (had a 2008 M3 for 5 years) but did not like the exterior appearance.. The Audi was the least compromising and AWD was important and AUDI does that the best. Also did not want to spend the $$ for the M550i and for the reasons stated before. Nice to have these choices, keep up the good work. ,
Looks better than E class but not handsome because it is known to have a 4 cylinder engine... if I didn’t know it was a 530 i would probably find the car handsome if you see where i’m going. I drive a 550 e60 sport 2008 with the aero kit. That’s a handsome car!
I have a 2018 530i on the boat from Germany on the way to me right now and should be here about Sept 15, 2017. I had a 2001 530i and a 2008 335i coupe. I was living in West Palm Beach, Florida at the time and loved both. However, I moved to Dallas and found that the roads were too chopped up with pot holes and tar strips, etc., to enjoy the Beamer. So, I went to an E350. I have now moved back to Orlando and live in the Winter Park area. I only have to drive 4.5 miles to work each day, but about 1.5 of those are over very uneven brick roads. As such, comfort, quite and pose are paramount. I drove a lot of the cars in the luxury class: Benz E300, 530i and 540i (and I've even driven my friend's M550, but that's a whole different story), Lexus (multiple ones), Caddy's (CTS and CT6), Lincoln (MKZ and the Connie), Volvo S90, Genesis 80 and 90, Audi A6 and Infinity. (My son just got an Audi A4 and the interface in the A6 is a generation behind it. I know they will be updating it, but I'm was in the market for a car now.) It came down to the E300 and 530i for me as I just didn't want to spend about $7K for the 540i (I got the dynamic handling package on the 530i with the integral steering which is about $2-$3K cheaper than on the 540i as you must also get the dynamic struts to get the dynamic dampers - but then get the adaptive mode, which the 530i doesn't have.) Plus you pay about $4-$5K more for the 540 6 cyl vs the 4 banger. For what I'll drive around Orlando, with some trips to West Palm and Tampa, the 530 is just fine (and in fact has more horsepower than my 2001 530i which blew me away) and I used the $ to buy some more tech. In 2018 gesture control is included, but you must pay for the Wi-Fi and enhanced USB. Also, there are only 2 levels of driving tech. I got the "main" one and didn't go for the autonomous driving one for 2 reasons: 1) I tried it on the expressway in Atlanta and it was a bit jerky; 2) The salesman was too nervous and didn't trust the self-parking to park it back at the dealership. I did get the non-run flats, again for the softer rider over the bricks. I also go the leather seats but not the Napa one (salesman said they wear out and the seat is stiffer with the massage to accommodate that, but could be gotten without massage - which I didn't want anyways). I got med blue (same color as in above video) and the cognac - which also isn't available in the Napa leather - only black, white or brown. I was torn between the Fineline Cove (the one in the video that looks like un-varnished wood) and Fileline Ridge (which looks about the same, but much darker as it is varnished.) I ultimately went with the Fineline Ridge. I got one package that I think will give me the full digital dash (but I'm not 100% sure - I'll see it when I get it - I got it for the adaptive/auto high beams that look amazing on the video). I also went for the Harmon-Kardon stereo but not the B&W as that was about $4K more. The HUD was MUCH better on the Beamer than the Benz. Also neither my son nor myself could ever get the Benz to take a voice Nav command. We tried addresses, the dealership, POI like Starbucks, etc. Plus, when we entered it with their controller it was painfully slow. The Beamer voice worked great and was much faster. Also the iDrive menus on the BMW are just much easier to navigate. They also seem much more responsive than the Benz. While I think the inside of the E300 is gorgeous, and the outside, at least to me, is better in the Benz, the tech and driving in the Beamer were so much better that I got the 530i. (BTW, to get the double digital dash in the Benz you *must* get the PIII level which is about $7K + about $800 on top of that for the 2nd digital dash.) When driven in sport mode up and down hills in Atlanta the 530i was tons of fun and even my friend in wth the 550 was surprised how nice it was (and I'm sure he would have told me if he didn't agree). Even in comfort mode (which I'll be in most of the time for the bricks) was certainly good enough. The sport mode is just that much more of a plus when I fell like pushing it a bit. It seemed to make a much bigger difference than sport mode in the Benz.
Hello, I see your comment is pretty old so just wanted to follow up how is the car holding up? I live in the orlando area as well and have been wanting to buy one for the past year. Any mechanical issues? I was worried a little on the 2017 model since it's the first year of the G30 generation. Thanks!
Love your reviews Motoman. I decided to go with the 2018 M550i. The 530 is just plain underpowered for this car @4300 lbs. I'm sure this is a great engine but it's better suited for the 1 or 2 series. Maybe if they got this car under 2 tons, but they didn't. This is how I would have have done the G30. The 540i would've been the base model. Then a 545i would use the same engine with two twin-scrolled turbos, generating anywhere between 375 to 400hp, with around 360 to 400 ft-lbs of torque... and of course the M550i (an outstanding vehicle by the way) would remain the top end. This is my first BMW 5-series and I absolutely love this car. This car can be a luxury sedan or a track car. Anyone who says this isn't a track car knows shit about cars.
i am very surprised to hear you say that the BMW 4-cylinder is smooth. i drive the previous generation (f10) 520i, and i drove the older generation (e60) 525 6-cylinder. and the thing i miss the most is the smoothness of the inline-6. i cannot imagine how other 4-cylinder engines vibrate, but the BMW 4-cylinder engine is the minimum i can live with, i drive aggressively, and i replaced my engine mountings at 40,000km. premature wear i am not used to.
Is that the bmw map at same time as CarPlay? Any wireless CarPlay issues in your week with the car ? On a separate note when will the new E63S 4matic make it onto your channel? Thanks
You are in iDrive or CarPlay. But, the nav in iDrive is so good, especially with the HUD. My 530i is still on the boat, so I haven't had a chance to really use CarPlay. My friend's 2017 M550 had issues with car play, but a software update/reboot fixed that.
Stuart Karden thanks for the reply. What i'm really asking is can you use bmw map with all its advantages of not needing 3g and turn directions between instruments etc and at the SAME time listen to audio via CarPlay eg Audible app audio book previously downloaded. Thanks
In US i would choose the 530i. In Brazil, where I live, I would buy the 540i. Reason: In here we don't see the highway patrol car as often as in US, as a result we often see people driving at 100-140mph. What's the point of buying a ton of HP in US if u barely hit the 75mph mark???
i prefer the non m sport. i ordered my 540 without it. there are WAY better ways to spend $2500 when buying a 5 series. all you really get is a steering wheel that's 8mm smaller and slightly harder shocks. that's it. all the other crap is cosmetic. my 540 won't be here for another month.... so i'm watching more reviews after buying the car. because logic.
I hitched a ride in a Bentley like that from Pooley Bridge to Patterdale, I am sure the lady driving it said it was a Corniche, not a Continental like you said in the film, it was a nice ride by the way.
Nice to see you driving in my neck of the woods, Motoman! But, you have to tell me...how did you get to drive on the roads when they were empty?! Every time I drive, there’s always someone going below the limit ...and yes, they are usually a Cadillac, Lexus or Merc driver Anyway, great review as always. Definitely put the 5 series in a great light.
I would love to own the g35 540i because it’s a 6 cylinder bmw and bmw’s are known for there 6 cylinders. Not saying that the 4 cylinder engine is bad but I’m more about the power
I got myself a M140i. I don't have to talk up anything about it, it is the best. Manual, inline six, minimal extras. Goes like a stabbed rat and creates smiles for endless driving sessions. I miss the BMW brand that was creating these kind of cars not just occasional. Modern day BMWs want to remove the driving pleasure and replace it with luxury. The four pot 5 series is a perfect example of a gutless, dull, dreary, hopeless engine talked up being sensible etc. blabla. Never in a million years i will pay such an amount of money for something like this.
You Thana Sound like you're mad you can't afford this. I get the idea what you're talking about though. Although, the m2 is where it's at if you want a more classic try at BMW. It's like a remade e46 or e36 m3. Stunning.
J Gripen i have a family and i need a four door. The M2 is attractive but just not suitable. Yet i don't want to be stuck in something hateful that car manufacturers label "family car". The M140i is a reasonable compromise between size power and money. How do you assume i cannot afford a 5 series? The four pot base models cost just as much as a M140i but never ever i would trade my M140i against a five or three series and especially not against a four pot model. The M140i is very lively and is hugely fast. Also it is available as a manual. I just fitted winter tires and the weather became wet, which makes me finally think about getting an LSD.
You Thana m is different for a reason. My cbr 600 is still faster than your m series have fun paying for gas ever week. But an e series doesn't come close to f 10 and g series.
You Thana the 2018 550i is just as fast as the m 140i so I don't get your point. People buy it because they can afford it. U think an f10 owner that drives a 528i that does 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds and does 21 city 32 high way cares about how fast the m 140i is?
M J have you ever driven any of these cars? Because you argue with numbers on paper. In real life there is no number quantifiying the fun you have listening to the car or what you feel throwing it through corners. Also i live in Europe and here space does matter when you drive into small cities. Also the M140i feels very alive and agile just because of the suspension set up and it's rather short wheel base. The 5 Series feels big, lardy and overall very comfortable but not engaging at all.
Beautiful gearbox 2.0 block too small for the weight of car 3.0 block perfect Extra optional seats comfy Loads of gadgets Nice drive ( ultimate) Sadly not built to last like how they did ☹️
How can I find this exact 530i?! I want the ex and interior color and the center console looks different and more modern like a 2019/2020 center console
Off topic, but do you plan on reviewing the arteon ? Im sure lot of viewers would like to get your take on that dumbed down drivetrain (from the EU spec model)
The spec on this one your driving is not M sport, after ownership of my one i can safely say it is a sleek and smarty look with touches of aggression... the merc and audi are very ‘elegant’ which for me is not the look i like on these segments on cars
It is a nice looking car, but what I don't get is that turbo 4 gets the same mpg as a 3 litre V6, so what is the reason to use that 4cyl when the V6 would be much cheaper and more reliable, I don't get it.
I think you mean "inline-6". However the question is legit. From what I have heard on forums and such, the 4-cylinder models get good MPG in real life. Besides, the EPA ratings are 4 MPG better in both city and highway compared to the 6-cylinder. With the 18-gallon tank included on these cars, that's an additional 72 miles of driving, which, for me, is about 4 days' worth of commuting.
Funny thing is if we are only counting the automatic transmissions for the numbers, that's where the fuel efficiency comes from. I mean it doesn't only come from that but it has a big effect on it. the ZF 8 speed is marvelous when combined with an engine that outputs a smooth power band. I have never seen a car go 80 miles per hour at 1100rpm like my F10 does. Also Ive only driven the 4cyl once and when I got my inline6 I told myself better to have it and not use it than to not have it at all. Especially when mpg isn't that much of a difference.
I love the styling. But the 540i is the bees knees. Will prob be my choice if I trade in my M2 for a sedan. The 530 is a great vehicle, way nicer than the E class imo.
Dang! i was gonna say 550i, but you closed that loop hole rather quickly lol. I'll go with the 540i M-Sport. You know how I feel about I4s & I don't like the E. I'll take a stab at the price & say $70ish. I find the G35 somewhere between nonoffensive & handsome depending on its configuration.
You are making the right choice! I had 3 550's, F10's huge engine oil issues. I recently drove a 2020 540 Msport and put an order in that day, the 540 is the perfect balance! Weighs less!
Also i saw the same wood finish in the same car. And it was bubbling, making me think it was a sticker. Now it could have been a preproduction model but that horrified my ocd german brain
You should ask that Question about the Mercedes E Class ! That car is way too Feminine ! This BMW looks way more stylish and Manly than the E Class ! So does the Audi A6 ! You are seeing things incorrectly !
Andrew Norton I really hate it's like a Buick with them fake chrome vents at least it as bad Mercedes fake exhaust tips even worse on the Diesel version

ok boomer
First got excited about this car from Motoman's review and Wow was it a good decision to buy this car.
is it better than the f10?
Compared to the 540i you drove 6 mounts ago this 530i does not have the Msport package. That's what's missing in the design and that's why the 540i looked better to you.
Exactly...still love my 530i xdrive tho!
Yes, you're bound to be right about that. Quite amazing that this chappy seems to be oblivious of this.
ill keep my 04 530i, just because shes mine and i am hers...
Winner!
"midsize" my balls. this sucker is 196 inches long. it's a land yacht. it's exactly the same size as the E38, 7 series.
BMW finally got there styling back!! Only took 20 years!! Last one I had was a 93 525i. In dark green. Loved that car.
It's a very understated, and handsome car.
You should come back to this model and see how its on the used market now😊
I came from Lexus and I love the new BMW's.
And they all look better than the current iteration of the 5
540i M Sport.
David Wolf I agree. A lot of ppl don’t necessarily need the quicker models. Especially considering the speed limits and ticket risks now days.
There is a time for the 400+hp V8's and a time for the work truck but I find myself jumping in the X5 more than the other vehicles I own.
is it better than the f10?
@japanwatchconnection 5 years ago the 4cyl was the only option for the hybrid. That has since changed.

Alex In other words go get a Benz you fuckin grandpa
I find the new 5series actually really handsome, the interior is much more tasteful than the one in the E class
I would definitely choose the 530i over the E300.
You sir deserve to join the Top Gear crew in my opinion!!!
Extremly interesting and entertaining reviews with alot of technical depth!
Keep it up!
Agreed . (Full stop)
3 years and I can finally afford one 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Facts me too 😂😂😂
Me too. Just picked up the sport line model in AWD
I would choose the 540i, because a BMW has to be a six cylinder in my opinion.
Anonymous no M should be only 3. And 8 cylinder engine is a bitch after a while. 5 series is a inline 6 masterpiece
(double the numbers of the 530i for a 540i)
a 550i would cost 3.146€ (3755$) to register and 2.538€ (3030$) in annual tax.
(So we have many small cars)
A bit of fun, even though I'm 66, I can allow myself to be a BMW fanboy. (Big smile)
Dansk: Hilser alle BMW ejere i verden.
Nice to have these choices, keep up the good work.
,
Ajit Pillai So you picked S5 (a 440i competitor) against the big luxury V8 M550i, which is twice as expensive.
Looks better than E class but not handsome because it is known to have a 4 cylinder engine... if I didn’t know it was a 530 i would probably find the car handsome if you see where i’m going. I drive a 550 e60 sport 2008 with the aero kit. That’s a handsome car!
E300 is better looking. But 530xi will Dominate the road. Much more fun. BMW I choose
Thanks!
540i you can't beat an inline 6 well apart from a V8 or V12
joe bloggs that’s the truth
I would choose the 530d. Unfortunately my company car policy means what I am actually getting is a 520d but that's close enough.
The ventilated seat are hard and uncomfortable, the plan nappa is soft and soooo much more comfortable
Anyone who says this isn't a track car knows shit about cars.
i am very surprised to hear you say that the BMW 4-cylinder is smooth.
i drive the previous generation (f10) 520i, and i drove the older generation (e60) 525 6-cylinder. and the thing i miss the most is the smoothness of the inline-6.
i cannot imagine how other 4-cylinder engines vibrate, but the BMW 4-cylinder engine is the minimum i can live with,
i drive aggressively, and i replaced my engine mountings at 40,000km. premature wear i am not used to.
Thanks
Wow. 530i with 4 cylinders. Thats crazy.
I also dont like how it looks so close to a GT series on the back.
Daniel Jacob Almost deceptive wouldn't you say?
In US i would choose the 530i. In Brazil, where I live, I would buy the 540i. Reason: In here we don't see the highway patrol car as often as in US, as a result we often see people driving at 100-140mph. What's the point of buying a ton of HP in US if u barely hit the 75mph mark???
@japanwatchconnection it's not as good as European highways, but it's fair. For the most part you can drive safely.
Doesn't look the same without the M-Sport Package.
i prefer the non m sport. i ordered my 540 without it. there are WAY better ways to spend $2500 when buying a 5 series. all you really get is a steering wheel that's 8mm smaller and slightly harder shocks. that's it. all the other crap is cosmetic. my 540 won't be here for another month.... so i'm watching more reviews after buying the car. because logic.
$4900 now
Very handsome car
I hitched a ride in a Bentley like that from Pooley Bridge to Patterdale, I am sure the lady driving it said it was a Corniche, not a Continental like you said in the film, it was a nice ride by the way.
Lucky you! The Corniche was the Rolls Royce version of the Bentley in the video. Badge engineering at its most expensive!
Nice to see you driving in my neck of the woods, Motoman! But, you have to tell me...how did you get to drive on the roads when they were empty?! Every time I drive, there’s always someone going below the limit ...and yes, they are usually a Cadillac, Lexus or Merc driver
Anyway, great review as always. Definitely put the 5 series in a great light.
Does the 530i and the 540i have the same technology in it or does the 540i have more
I would love to own the g35 540i because it’s a 6 cylinder bmw and bmw’s are known for there 6 cylinders. Not saying that the 4 cylinder engine is bad but I’m more about the power
Can you please do a head2head between 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 T
VS 2018 Mercedes Benz E 4 doors turbo?
Beautiful gearbox
2.0 block too small for the weight of car
3.0 block perfect
Extra optional seats comfy
Loads of gadgets
Nice drive ( ultimate)
Sadly not built to last like how they did ☹️
Very beautiful presentation 👏👏👏👏👏👏
530e would be my choice. I just sold my 2014 550i and I am ready to get a more efficient car.
How can I find this exact 530i?! I want the ex and interior color and the center console looks different and more modern like a 2019/2020 center console
Car gurus 2017-2018 bmw 530i
Off topic, but do you plan on reviewing the arteon ? Im sure lot of viewers would like to get your take on that dumbed down drivetrain (from the EU spec model)
Already did . . . ruclips.net/video/EDfIOjbaEmo/видео.html
Elizabeth Cherry which v6? BMW has never produced one.
Especially when mpg isn't that much of a difference.
you DIDNT even use the Sports PLUS mode though...lol. You only used Sport Mode Only
I’m finally gonna go from a Nissan sedan to German. Merc or BMW?
I'd be happy if BMW drivers would just start using turn signals.
Come on man enough with that, that shit is overblown
I drive one. It seems I'm the only one on the road around here that uses a turn signal.
Funny, because I've seen more Hyundai drivers change lanes without signalling more than any BMW and Audi drivers COMBINED!
Hehe... great point!
The only two guys that ever say that shit is Salomondrin and the moron Farshad.
The 530d or 540d anytime! Beautiful cars btw but the Touring version is better
Would choice the 540 if no other reason than the sound of the 530.
Hey, moto man, I was wondering if you will upgrade the frames per second for your videos. It looks a bit laggy sometimes.
I will choose the E300 because of the interior is so much nicer
The chrome bandaid on the side is the ugly part. With the potions you list, I'll guess the four cylinder five series is $67k.
omg im driving a 4 banger BMW?
you don't show the exterior of the car on your videos
How many deer did you almost hit while driving through Great Falls? That area is beautiful, but it is teeming with deer. Be careful!
I would choose the 540i bcuz I just love the a v6 sounds , from Jamaica
Also i saw the same wood finish in the same car. And it was bubbling, making me think it was a sticker. Now it could have been a preproduction model but that horrified my ocd german brain
Options prices are still ridiculous and the E300 is still a better day-to-day car.
Does 530i have sports plus mode ?
@japanwatchconnection I knew .. Thanks for confirming by responding.. appreciate if.
"Nondescript" is how I'd describe it.
yessss
I own this car being a previous owner of the old serious and I can tell you're wrong
pretty, for handsome you need the m-pack, on the 530 its same as on the 540 ;)
but ya, the b58 wins every time
Virginia like 4-cyl bimmers are overrated, but that garage however is not.
Review the M550 I
M sport is the better looking version. But id always go e class.
I think 540 xdrive is an obvious pick. Boston MA
530e would be my choice.
the funny thing is its a very fast car lol
Please get the m sport and stop talking
4cyl on any luxury cars is ugly to me. Otherwise, I'd love myself an M550i.
You should ask that Question about the Mercedes E Class ! That car is way too Feminine ! This BMW looks way more stylish and Manly than the E Class ! So does the Audi A6 ! You are seeing things incorrectly !
What's ugly is that fake chrome quarter panel vent
Andrew Norton I really hate it's like a Buick with them fake chrome vents at least it as bad Mercedes fake exhaust tips even worse on the Diesel version
Sleepy has massive expensive homes bro
Hanging on to my e60.....
The e60 is like the very ugly girl who happens to be such a fucking top shag that you can't let go!
stay with E60 looks way more modern than this new 5 series.
Narcis Margean the e39 looks way better
I think the car looks hot @ 13:09 !
there are sport mode, comfort mode and celery mode. lol
i think its really attractive, coming from a plane guy, yup me
Styling looks very Tokyo town car, probably a result of Asian demand.
Why is it called the 530i when it's only a 2.0 it should really be called 520iTT
Put that gearbox in sport mode if you want max performance. Why make a vlog before you learn to drive a car.
