- Boyden Cavern is located deep in the heart of Kings Canyon National Park. We got a chance to visit the cave in 2020 and it was a really fun experience. The cave is only open seasonally but make sure to do the tour if you get the chance.

I know Yosemite gets most of the love in California but I absolutely love visiting Kings Canyon. The Mist Falls hike is one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever been on and the Kings River is a beautiful shade of emerald green. Jumping off Muir Rock into the river during summer is one of my daughters favorite things to do.
Very cool Josh. I didn't even know we had caverns in California. Nice find and fun that you were able to make the trip with your mom!
There are tons of awesome caverns in California!
Nice Video! Definitely deserves a 👍
Yes it does! :)
Nice video Josh! I am a fan of Caves too!
Thanks 👍
Kings Canyon is such an underrated park.
Agree 100%
Amen!
ohhh wowwww I’m soo late. But I actually went there before the lockdown. We were givin a tour. It was really cool !
Excellent really interesting thank you 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting. I have never heard of them before. Your content is always enjoyable
Thank you very much!
Thanks for your amazing videos. Inspired me to learn and visit Cali !
Happy to hear that!
I’m a chicken when it comes to caves lol, but as always, I enjoy watching your videos. And it looks like your mom had a great time, so it’s very tempting for me to try one day.
Thanks so much for always watching the videos and for commenting. My mom really enjoyed herself in the cave!

Me: I NEED TO SEE IT RIGHT NEOWWW
haha! I appreciate the support!
How spooky! I would be freaked out to do this lol. Do you have to be in shape to this tour?
I wouldn't call it a grueling hike, but the trail to the entrance is pretty steep, and you have to be able to negotiate tight spaces, uneven ground, and stairs when you're in the cave.
@@matman730 that's what I figured but wanted to make sure. I'm so out of shape with this quarantine 😓!
Matman's response is perfect for this question
@@californiathroughmylens cool thank you! It will be a good challenge.
Awww that looked like so much fun... hey josh was the water in the cave creek cool or cold? Great vid friend
It was freezing haha but it was worth it!
@@californiathroughmylens haha looked so much fun. Glad mom got to come along with ya friend
How much are does tickets?
In he thumbnail image ...you can see an Egyptian style lotus flower carved into the cave floor in shadow . If then rotate the image a quarter turn clockwise you will see a carving of a phoenician with the shadow from the lotus flower going into a hole in his chest . 🍀
I love your parents omg wtf
haha they are pretty cool
Hey, Mom... We love your son. You did a good job raising him. We love his videos and narration. 😊❤️👍
Just when you think you know most spots in your state... a new CTML videos out.
haha! Happy to help!
Kings Canyon is an underappreciated gem. It's like a smaller Yosemite Valley and has far less people. Great video, Josh!
Totally agree! I am surprised by how little amount of people visit it
@@californiathroughmylens I've heard the campgrounds get fully booked during the summer, but there have never been many people there whenever I've gone.
There are some beautiful hikes in Kings Canyon. Beautiful especially in the Spring.
Wow! I've been to a bunch of caves in my life but never one with so many narrow and low pathways. And the exit through the water...! Truly adventurous!
Me too! I loved the uniqueness of the wild cave exit. I hope you can visit it one day
Cool video! Did you know that if you save a couple of certain consecutive 'still frames' from portions of your video, you can actually combine them with a free, downloadable 'anaglyph maker' program from the internet and turn them into a 3D image? It's like you're 'back there again' seeing the caverns as you remember them, with the added illusion of depth! All you need is RED/CYAN BLUE filters ( like 3D glasses) to view the converted images in natural 3D! Just be sure to save side-by-side images with no detectable movement, such as the slow panning of the formations, themselves, and if done correctly, it will work! Good Luck!
I knew about crystal caves but never been to this one. I will have to look out for it. Thanks for posting
Thanks for Another great video (Huell Howser) I mean Josh!!! You Rock!
Glad to see the caves open for tours. It was closed for a couple years. Water is so low. When were you there?
Yea it was closed for a few years. We visited in October.
Beautifully done video. Can someone that is 6' 7" make it though the cave??
Hey Josh, don't know if you've been there, but Crystal Cave in Sequoia is a MUST if you like being underground. The creek bed inside is solid marble, and is absolutely stunning!
I have but it has been a long time, I will have to go visit that one again!
Ssshhhh. Don't tell anyone about Kings Canyon and Boyden's Cave. We like it quiet!
I thought the caves were closed! How cool! I loved crystal cave, but I haven’t been to Boyden cavern yet.
It was closed for a while but it opened back up again in 2019
@@californiathroughmylens this is what I came for! Hopefully they will stay open this upcoming season!
I’m going in early October! Can’t wait- great video.
I'm like your father when it comes to caves: claustrophobic. I'drather watch your cave videos than go into those caves in person. ha ha
haha that is fair! That is why I brought my mom, my dad wouldn't get anywhere near that cave haha,
Cool tour for sure! The small rock formation at the 3:00 mark looks like a couple sitting on a park bench!
Is this open now?? It was closed during the summer.
Love going through caverns!
So cool. I haven’t been to a cavern in years, didn’t know about this one
There are a lot of great caves to explore in CA!
I might of missed it, but how long does it take to go through the cave?
Is there other things to do in the park besides the tour? I wanted to go for a day and hike inside the canyon
I remember going there as a kids, I been looking for this place for a while but didn't know the name, thank you for posting, I remember when we went the guide asked us if we were ok with him turning off the lights so we could experience total darkness, the whole experience was so cool.
So cool to see your mom tagging along with you on your expedition! You should bring her along more often!
Your mom is smart -- 2 pairs of shoes!
Yea, we both brought Crocs for the water part
Stalactites hold tight to the ceiling and stalagmites might touch the ceiling
I remember that from school as well!
Did not know about Boyden, thanks ✌️
No problem!
Very cool to have your Mom in your video, first time to see her. Neat video. Thanks Josh!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wearing masks in a fuckin cave 😂
Did the tour guide say any useful information or just how different formations resemble cake and ice cream?
Yea, had tons of great information and answered any questions we had
👍🏻😍🎄
Nice!
Where’s Amy?
Woow i didint even know boyd cavern existed thanks josh! Ill look into it! 😊
No problem!
Thank you for posting/making videos of Cali! I come from california (living in Ohio rn) and seeing all the beautiful scenes remind me of home...(some that I haven't seen before :)
Glad you are enjoying the videos! Hopefully you can come back and explore more of CA in the future.
Love it
Truly amazing!!!! It's like our Jenolan caves in New South Wales, Australia but better!!! Awesome vid Josh!!
Another excellent video, CTML. FYI, Boyden Cavern is in the Sierra National Forest (you even got a picture of the sign), not Kings Canyon National Park. It's along that part of Hwy 180 that is in between the Grant Grove section and Cedar Grove.
Back in 1997, we went camping in the Grant Grove area with another family. We were all at the cave entrance waiting for our tour to start when we learned that Princess Diana had been killed in a car accident.
Your channel is making Greyhound ask me with alarming frequency why we haven't moved to California yet. This looked awesome. We are just beginning to realize how many caves you can explore around the country.
haha! There are endless adventures in CA for sure :)
I was in Kings Canyon years ago and saw the falls. I don't remember there being a cave there. My wife loves caves and if we get back that way we'll certainly check it out! My trip: backpack-and-gear.com/Gunnison/Hikes
Idk how you don't have more subs. Thx for not being a douchy youtuber. It means a lot. I love not having to listen to shitty music while I watch videos.
Too claustrophobic for me.
That's fair!
Going to Kings Canyon this weekend. I may check out the cavern!
Thank you for sharing! I’ve waited a couple of years to see inside of that cavern! I’m hoping to get tickets next year.
the national park also has canyoneering tours that take you deep into the canyon. really adventurous you get to repel waterfalls, theres natural slides and pools
Was the water cold that you walked through In roughly what was the temperature outside during the trail
im so happy to see that its open again, it had been closed for a awhile because a fire took out parts of the walk way out.
How do you get admission ticket ahead of time???
You can buy tickets here boydencavern.com/ The cave is closed until the spring though
@@californiathroughmylens awww man..how about everywhere else? Is it first come first serve? I did my exploring from burney and coming back down to socal
It’s really cool, of course I want to go as soon as I have a chance. Thank you Josh
Great video you inspire me to go out and explore California’s backyarda
Great to hear! CA has some pretty epic spots
TIL apparently I'm claustrophobic, because the whole time I kept shaking my head, too many tight squeezes! But thank you for the video, love seeing all the cool places you explore!
No problem! haha at least you know before finding yourself on a cave tour!
Super cool! I love caving & would definitely do the Wild exit. This is going on my list for sure.
It's so good! We both loved doing the wild cave exit
The older I get, the less I like caves - ha ha! Good on your mom!
haha that is fair! Yea she doesn't get claustrophobic like my dad
It was so good to see ur mom and dad on ur tours
Great to see, thanx v much for sharing.
I live in Cornwall presently, and sure will visit one day! Marvellous
I hope you are able to visit in the future! Thanks for the comment
Not a good place during an earthquake. I didn't even know it existed and I've driven that road a number of times.
haha, yea I have no idea how it would be to be in an earthquake while underground
That cave had been closed for years. Awesome.
Yea, this was my first visit since it was closed for a while
Awesome as always!!!
Thanks again!
Just put it on my list!
Awesome! It's a fun adventure
My brother lives close, so in 2017 during a snow storm, we drove to the park. It was closed, but I thought we could take a photo in the parking lot. The ranger told us to leave! I've found a lot of dickish people live in California..
