Hanabie (Han-ah-bee-ay) are a Harajukucore band from Tokyo, Japan. They started as a middle school Maximum the Hormone cover band and were spotted at a talent show by Gaku Taura of Crystal Lake who produced their album "Girl's Reform Manifest" - which is my favorite album form 2021. They graduated college earlier this year and it looks like they are going to be Hanabie full time now. They have some insanely good tracks, the best of which are on their album - "Our Seven Days War" and "Want to TiE-UP" being examples.
They have a few MVs, the next logical two from the same album as 'Sweets are Reiwa Matching Generation and L.C.G. (Lollipop Candy Girl) which are both great, going back in time we have Envy and Time Out which are also both excellent. Hanabie aren't just a gimmick and unlike BABYMETAL they write and perform all their own music (Except their cover of ADO's ODO which is a joy in itself). They are kind of life imitating art when it comes to BABYMETAL though, which is kinda cool. They have a message too, all told they are a real band in the traditional sense, unlike a lot of acts out of Japan.
More real Japanese girl's metal? Aldious, Nemophila, LOVEBITES, Band-Maid, Lonesome_Blue, Fate Gear, Trident, Ark Royal - some of these skirt the idol scene and manufactured music but when they put proven J-metal legends in their project band with enough additional talent to shame Dragon Force and Metallica, as a listener, you can;t go wrong - check out Nemophila's Dissension and Lonesome_Blue's Parallel World for a taste of that magic.

@@byerenny I just heard Greed Five Egg's. They sound like Hanabie with a little more punk rock and Jpop. They're even newer. Only 4 songs. My favorite is 'My fuckin life'. They sing in Engrish. And I didn't mean English. It's kawaii. They call it 'powerpop' not Harajukacore. Which is good because I'm pretty sure I can't spell Harajukacore.
Greed Five Egg's also sounds like Varuca Salt. Quite a bit.

Welcome to the world of Japanese rock and metal. I have been listening to rock/metal for over 50 years now and had not been really excited about anything new in music since the 1990s. That changed when I discovered Band-Maid and started diving into Japanese music. I now have my clear favorites who I listen to on a regular basis. At the top is a band that has never left the top position and that is Band-Maid. They are a rock band, punk band, jam band all rolled into one. They know how to put on a show with their live performances. I will finally that in person when I see them in Dallas this fall. The best start with Band-Maid is their live performance of Domination (not the mv) which can be found on their RUclips channel.
In second is Lovebites. I never would have thought that the classic metal sound of the 80s could be brought back so well. The drummer and two guitarists are as good as anyone in the world right now. Unfortunately their bassist, who was also the founding member, left the band. They should be announcing the new bassist before the end of the month. Their song Set The World On Fire would be a good starting song. It can be found on their RUclips channel.
The third group is Nemophila. The members joined together as a band only three years ago. Because the world shut down shortly after, they were unable to tour at all. They decided to really take advantage of RUclips and started uploading a bunch of covers and then their original music. They are primarily metal but they don't stick to that genre. They are finally able to do some live shows and made their US debut at Whisky a Go Go in LA about a month ago. I suggest starting with their live performance of the song Oiran at an outdoor festival last year (no audience, only livestream unfortunately). Since there is so much on their RUclips, I have put the link below.
    Oiran - ruclips.net/video/19VQ9tkWksQ/видео.html
My next two groups right now are probably Unlucky Morpheus, a 6 member band, and Asterism, a trio. For Unlucky Morpheus, I would start with the song Black Pentagram and for Asterism, their live performance of the song Blaze.
    Black Pentagram - ruclips.net/video/V8i_QhOgsKw/видео.html
    Blaze - ruclips.net/video/51Pxkp8lGAs/видео.html
If you go on this Japanese musical journey, you will not be sorry you did. Enjoy!

@@TriggeredTuesdays Which Babymetal are you talking about? The one on the album tracks or the one at concerts? It's a completely different band. The Babymetal that appears at concerts is the best in the world. Or was. They aren't the same without Yui Mizuno.
If you're talking about the Babymetal on the album tracks then I agree. They aren't good. It's weird because they do everything wrong in the studio and everything right live in concert. Ghost is an amateur act compared to Babymetal. Nothing they do live is half as good.
If you haven't seen a Babymetal DVD from their prime (2015 to the end of 2017) then you are missing out. Best ever.
Playing guitar is a talent. Getting millions to love you is also a talent. The second is more rare and more valuable. We're LUCKY that Yui and Moa don't want to rule the world. Just saying.

Check out Band-Maid. Not so much metal (though they do get really heavy), but they are the best hard rock band in existence. I'm 56 from the UK (Midland lad), they are the best I've ever heard. Ever. Try the LIVE version of Domination from their You tube channel.
Guys, the Japanese Rock and metal scene is a never ending rabbit hole of excellence. No one sticks to any one genre. Their musicianship is unreal. The compositions are mind bending. The best are all female - not disrespecting the blokes.

I like your genuine reaction and the fact you're honest: you compare them (at first) to Babymetal because that's the only female japanese act you know. There's actually a ton (litteraly) of amazing rock bands in Japan, often all female or mixed. I recommand you Band-Maid ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html and Nemophila ruclips.net/video/26aMuahxz8c/видео.html to have a better idea of what you're about to fall in love with. Great reaction guys. Hanabie is a very newer band, they release their first album in 2021, but they're quietly gaining more fans from all over the world. I like their take con metalcore, since western bands are starting to sound a little bit the same to me lately, this band is very refreshing and funny. They're described as Harajukucore, because their image, colors, style, etc is pretty much reminiscent of Harajuku district which is known for its particular fashion.
Hope you continue to digging more into japanese rock and metal, there's a lot of very great bands and you'll find that, although each of them have a primarly style that define their sound, they often incorporate things from different genres.
Some suggestions (not just metal bands):
BAND-MAID (my current favorite) - No God (hard rock with a Motörhead-esque rhythm, pop punk chorus and a groovy bass line)
    ruclips.net/video/nAdWnIRjGak/видео.html
GLIM SPANKY - シグナルはいらない (this song is very bluesy/alternative rock)
    ruclips.net/video/7Q2wbLEbeDY/видео.html
Nemophila - Style (this song has some alternative metal feel, is great)
    ruclips.net/video/kDaezMfprq0/видео.html
LOVEBITES - Holy War (this song is more in their speed metal side)
    ruclips.net/video/bgAxpEpEcno/видео.html
BRATS - Kaihou Seyo (punk with grunge and alternative rock elements)
    ruclips.net/video/SNpcKwAO2fk/видео.html
    tricot - Inai (math/alternative/indie rock)
    ruclips.net/video/VBTIpDeBQcg/видео.html
Suspended 4th - Breakout Junkie Bluesmen (jam band with a lot of funk, hard rock, blues and jazz elements)
    ruclips.net/video/iCvf8TrpKWA/видео.html
There's a lot of bands, you definitely will find something that suits your tastes

Great band have yet to hear a sing of theirs I did not totally dig. Your take on Babymetal is off though. What you say is Babymetal is not “modern” because it is not “core”. Many modern metal bands do not go into djent or core. Metal is very much a buffet of styles. I really hope you explore more J-Metal as I think the metal coming from Japan is very special the last 10 years or so. Nemophila is my favorite but there are many great and unique bands. Try the video for Adabana as a starting point. Nemophilia is not signed and has worked their way up. Just plated their 1sr USA gig in July and are taking off.
