The Verbier concert was special in that Malofeev ‘dared’ to come out of his shell even more than usual. By the way: the ‘Russian piano school’ has always produced the most outstanding pianists. And I repeat what I have already commented on before: Alexander Malofeev is the epitome of what a concert pianist should be. Utterly brilliant, of course. Technically faultless - certainly. Stunning subtle control of everything, dynamic , colours, rubato, phrasing. But he also has a warmth and humanity with which he makes a deep, emotional connection with those listening.
It’s a little over five years since I discovered Alexander thanks to RUclips. The Rach 3 came up as a recommendation. I ignored it the first couple of times. Then I gave in and thought, OK this kid can have five minutes, then I’ll move on. Of course I listened to the whole concerto. It seemed disrespectful not to as you could feel a heart and soul in the playing. I can multiply that five minutes a least a thousand fold now and I have seen Alexander live several times now. I can’t begin to tell you the pleasure and joy he has brought to me.

Last year, I had the chance to see him performing twice, and his recital at the Rheingau Musik Festival in Germany was one of the most exciting musical experiences of my life!
Thank you so much for this, George-yes he is a lovely human being! Glad you were able to catch him in recital to hear what he does with sound-hard to capture on recordings!

I came across Alexander online when he was a boy. A wonderful musician, who seems to me to be a wonderful guy, and this is a wonderful interview. I hope one day to see Alexander in a live performance.
Excellent interview - creative questions - honest answers from a premiere musician. I am so excited to see Sasha perform twice in California in the next couple of weeks!
