I think to be ahead of the times requires one to be controversial and counter culture.
If everything he said or done didn’t not disrupt expectations, then he would just be like everyone else.
I’m not making a judgement on what he said and did was right or wrong, but clearly he thought about a lot of things differently than most people, and you need that to change the world.

He talks about someone writing everything down or logging their life, then having a way to ask what they would think/do. I attended that conference in 1989. Approx 10 am I was just outside the large tent. A young man walked up and asked me for the time. I replied " maybe 10:15". He said thanks and walked on. After that I realized who the man was. Steve was wearing torn jeans, flannel shirt and his hair was down to his shoulders. What? I was there that year because he'd just released the tiny SE. The Mac revolutionized graphic design and publishing. And now we're talking about wearables. He should have lived to see it.

Only major contributions after 1980s were 3D Gaming in the 1990s and multiplayer incl. MMOs end of 1990s / Beginning 2000s. Maybe Battle Royal could be seen as the only contribution from the 2010s.

In 1983 he was predicting what life would be like 30-40 years, and described it perfectly. Imagine what Steve would have devised by now had he not died so young in 2011 at the tender age of 56. His last creation was the tablet in 2010. What has Apple created since? The Watch? AVP? I would argue that the Mx-series ARM processors are their best product, but those processors were the direct result of Jobs buying Palo Alto Semiconductor (a RISC house) in 2008 for a mere $278M.
