@456musicFAN If you mean making up her own tune, I don't think so. This tune is called "Island of Woods" as the title says. If you mean adding her own embellishments within the tune, yes, I'd think so.
You can certainly play along on fixed pitch instruments based on D (I’m doing it right now with my concert-pitch pipes). But it goes to a low A, and seems to want to go back there. So that might make it A mixolydian (I think, since scale of D is just scale of A with flatted seventh). I’m not so great with modes, someone else might correct me!
Is it really right to play the fiddle with the hand flat against the violin neck? I learn classical violin, I find it kind of disturbing x) Otherwise, very beautiful! =) I love fiddle music =)
The way Liz plays, she can get away with standing on her head! I've seen her play recently, and she seems to be holding her wrist in more of a "classical" straight position these days.nowadays.
I guess as long as she is comfortable and not restricted in what she is doing, it doesn't matter. I learned classical violin as well and I don't do it her way, but she sounds great, isn't it?
Am I the only one still listening to this beautiful peace
The best rendition of this! Slower than the official recording. So beautiful! Thank you
This is so beautiful. I could listen to it over and over again.
Too true. I play it constantly myself, on fiddle also.
I like this beautiful peace of music. Really nice combination with fiddle and guitar.
So beautiful
and moving
this is a really beautiful tune - reminds me a bit of "ashokan farewell"
So much love for this..thnx a lot. It makes me calm in turbulent times

Bliss.
You can be sure it's the best way for her if she does it.
It's alright - the end result is what matters.
What Jim said!!
fiddlers don't change positions - that may be the reason why it works here but not in classical music.
macarthur road, sweetness of mary--there are fiddle tunes that require either very long fingers or shifting. or slight changes to the tune.
I love this tune. ^^ is it played in D key please ? Thank you

Is there a tab for the guitar part available somewhere? I think the tuning is DADGAD.

Yes, Paul Meehan always plays in DADGAD.
I think with the video it's not very difficult to pick up the notes...

It may not appeal to the classical purists, but it got her a Grammy nomination.
