only a very few drummers can play arround on the drumset without destroing the song (but taking it to a higher level) like Manu does.... One of the greatest!!!
I searched the whole video to get right to a solo from Bona. His individual ideas were very good. But I found myself wanting him to connect them to make more of a story so badly.

Magnifique quatuor. Le son de Richard est tout de suite saisissant, au-delà de sa virtuosité. Eric nous enchante au Fender et Stefano est d'une musicalité époustouflante. Merci à Manu pour ce beau moment ;-)

,but he always has the best sound with his signature Fodera.

Excellent concert. I've watched twice already and I will do it more. Just one comment Manu: it would be nice to mention the compositions and their writers. If you could add that info it would be very nice to them (unless those are your compositions and in such a case also it would be nice to know it). Thank you!

I just read the comments, I am sorry for what I wrote in french about the groove, but the drummer for me is not "inside" what is happening around him... If you listen carefuly bass and and drum are often not "together"... Even the fills are not straight, may be it was the kinf of road mapping of playing... don't know, it misses something precious for me between the bass and the drum...
beaucoup de respect pour tous ces musiciens, mais Manu joue trop derrière à mon goût, mais ce n'est que mon goût... le groove n'est pas pointé... Je ne sais pas si vous voyez ce que je veux dire mais c'est comme si il y avait un rythme mais absent des autres... bref, c'est un très beau concert quand même... Merci à ces messieurs... Mais ya comme une retenue rythmique qui me gêne dans le groove...

Bof ... Pas très original tout ça ... Des compositions fades & sans originalité, des impros qui durent des heures ... Mention spéciale tout de même pour Richard Bona (elb) & Stefano di Battista (saxes) ... Le reste, ça ne "décolle" pas ... J'ai pourtant essayé d'écouter mais en vain ...

Merci pour ta réponse car je sais que mes propos ne sont pas "politiquement -musicalement" corrects ici en France où il faut toujours aduler Manu Katché ! Non, ce batteur ne fait pas partie des "pointures" et/ou des "first called" comme on dit dans le jargon musical, à l'opposé des Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Peter Erskine (liste non exhaustive) ... Certes, Manu Katché joue peut-être bien mais le talent ne se résume pas à ce simple constat, il a eu la chance de naître et jouer à la bonne époque mais à l'heure actuelle il y a tellement de bons batteurs, voire excellents, qu'il jouit de sa réputation ... Son jeu batteristique me fait penser à un batteur de caf'conç et/ou bal, variété, jeu sans originalité aucune ... Jouer bien ne signifie pas avoir du talent ... Je vais donc aller me consoler en écoutant les "vrais" comme : Bill Stewart, Joey Baron, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Peter Erskine, Jeff Porcaro, Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Jack DeJonhnette, Art Blakey, Steve Smith, Brian Blade (liste non exhaustive) ... Allez, j'arrête là !...
il est évident que dans la liste que tu évoques ,tout ces batteurs traversent le temps(sans jeu de mot poussif )et il n'est donc pas question pour eux d’avoir joué "à une bonne époque" pour mériter la notoriété qu'i leur advient,ils sont talentueux point.Perso, je suis insensible au jeu de Katché et pas seulement sur ce concert.Je lui trouve des carences dans le ternaire et pour être gentil je dirai que je n'aime pas son swing...je suis plus Franck Agulhon en somme lol!
Tout à fait d'accord, Manu Katché swingue comme un "pied de table", et encore ... Peut-être que mes propos choquent mais je ne manipule pas la langue de bois, j'ai passé l'âge, je suis franc & direct et cela ne m'a pas toujours été favorable dans le métier, je sais ... Pour Franck Agulhon, d'accord avec toi, superbe batteur, sympa et accessible (contrairement à certains ...) que j'ai eu l'occasion de rencontrer car il était venu faire une master class à Périgueux (Dordogne), un batteur qui swingue, LUI (mais pas que ...) !
C'est peut-être effectivement ta franchise qui fait que tu me sois totalement inconnu alors que Katché a fait/fait la carrière que beaucoup connaissent et ce,bien au-delà de nos frontières hexagonale ... mais certainement pas que ? Peut-être es-tu tout simplement bien moins talentueux que ce que tu penses ?
Si il était si mauvais,ça m'étonnerait que les musiciens présents sur cette scène auraient acceptés de participer à SON projet ? ...notamment Richard BONA (et pour info Stefano Di BATTISTA a eu l'honneur de jouer avec l'immense Michel PETRUCCIANI).
Cela dit,je compatis à ton amertume;ce doit être frustrant de se dire qu'on est le meilleur batteur du monde et au final,jouer dans son local ou des rades pourris mais ça fait partie de la vie,malheureusement.
