Played the NES version at release back in the day. Played the GBC remake at launch back in the day. Played the SNES remake w/ the American translation back in the day. Got the HD 2D remake pre ordered on Steam to play day 1. Moral of the story... I'm old as hell & addicted to DQ after all these years!! 😁
Preordered Dragon Quest Monsters Dark Prince on Steam as well comes out in a week needed it to hold me over until DQ3 comes out, know i'm going to love both :)
The slower paces are the charm of the DQ games. Granted the speed up feature for combat is welcomed, especially when animations start to be introduced. At least we won't be penalized for running males.
DQ3 was my first DQ game - bought it with my allowance for GBC when I was probably around 10 or 11. I loved the game but gave up when I couldn't progress, and didn't revisit it until my 20s. Still one of my favorite DQ games and best JRPGs of all time IMO. Very excited to get this remaster on the Switch!!
I've played every version of DQ3, too, and this is my favorite DQ game to boot! Anyhow, hey, I wanted to warn people about Merchants. They aren't a bad class at all, but ... well, there's a part of the story where a town is developing. They say they're in need of a Merchant. If you have one on your team when you get there, they will leave and stay there to help this town get started! And there's a whole story about them there in that town when you come back after progressing story. The cool part of it is when it turns out the town ends up being named after the merchant. Last time I played on GBC, I just made a throwaway merchant named ? because I was being a little shit. I don't wanna spoil any more than that. Be careful a Merchant you aren't planning on keeping forever doesn't stay behind. Otherwise, I want a Monster Master. Wanna see what the new job is all about!! ...not so I can build an army of Bunicorns, I promise... ^_^U My husband is laughing his butt off right now because he says that he's gonna start with 3 goof-offs as his party just because. I had to bonk him with my Slime plush. XD
I'm waiting for the remake to play this game but I appreciate these tips. I'm sure some of them won't be applicable once the new game comes out, but most should be. I'm personally hoping this will be the definitive version of the game going forward. If not, at least the SNES remakes exist.
A tip i didn't know i needed to give my friends when i got them into playing Dragon Quest just a week ago: Items like healing herbs need to be in your characters inventories to be used, each character can only use their own items in battle and has no access to the Bag. This isn't even a 3 specific tip, my two friends one picked up 11 and the other 8 for the 3DS, both were surprised by the idea of each character having a bag but got used to it.
I downloaded the Android version two weeks ago and have been having a blast with this game! It's incredible to think it originally came out in the '80s-still so fun and addictive!
This is a very good beginner's guide. I might add that it's a good idea to stash seeds away for difficulty spikes, as using them early doesn't increase the value of your stats at a later level. This is a matte of personal preference, but I also prefer to turn my merchant into a sage. The merchant is a decent enough tank early game, and the extra gold helps to minimize the need for grinding early on. Additionally, the ability to summon your last-visited shop or an inn in a pinch can be very nice when exploring world 2.
That too but QUICK Save before using it after all Call shop is still very costly at 15 MP each use it also summons a Random Church and since the Churches in this upcoming Remake CAN save you game Call shop when summoning a Church may still allow you to save in the middle of a dungeon this version only.
I’m doing a low level replay of XI right now! What a special game. It renewed my belief that the turn based JRPG isn’t a dead genre. And now I’m bing playing the genre again!
If you've played DQXI all the way through, you are going to _love_ Dragon Quest 3. I'm not going to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't played it, but playing XI before this new version of III will likely be worthwhile!
The NES version had a bug where if you choose "defend" and then cancel to choose fight or spell, when you get hit, you take less damage. You can do that with every party member except the one at the end.
One more tip: *Before dungeon diving, warp back to Aliahan and deposit your money purse* There is nothing worse than running into a wipeout and you find half of your gold is taken. Use the bank whenever you have at least 1000 gold to safely keep your gold intact.
That too but too bad just BUYING OUT out the first shops in the game for the best equipment BEFORE entering the Najami/Dream Tower costs well more then that at least 2500 gold depending on your jobs you chose at the start of the game. Easy mode difficulty MAY Prevent that from actually happening in the first place and I plan on playing this remake on Easy mode as long as you still GET EXP/Gold on it (you don't for DQ11's EASY mode).
I’m currently playing Secret of Mana for the first time (ps4 version) and its been fantastic. Im hoping to be finished with it and at least one playthrough of Trials of Mana before this comes out! Visions of Mana may have to wait a little bit lol
Make you first party 3 merchant grind them to level 10 to get a little bit of extra gold and for the gold orb later in the game .then make your true party.
Just changing your wizard to sage once you learn oomph/bikill is really all you need to do for smooth sailing, in my opinion, if you are using the preset command groups. But if you are issuing individual command, I think the fighter into mage or vice versa could be better.
I am sooooo excited about this, not just b/c new “DQ” game, but b/c I never played the original on NES but have heard Davidvinc speak so highly of it! “DQ8” & “DQ5” are my favorites in the series, but this new HD-2D version of “DQ3” has me excited! (And the remakes of 1 & 2 coming soon are also awesome!)
I’ve already did a dubbed playthrough of III on switch. Helps for those wanting to enjoy the main story. I planned on a redefined edition of that through the HD-2D Remake.
I like Dragon Quest cause it's a fun dungeon crawling adventure, that doesn't try to shove like 3 dozen different mechanics into the dungeon crawl like other DRPGs will. I can't remember that many things!
The first thing to do is to cry tears of joy that the hd version exists. I truly hope that the medals comes back. I feel like I'm the only person who enjoyed using th goofoff class.... Probably because I'm insane
I played Dragon Warrior as a kid back when it came out in America, never forgot it. Much later I discovered Dragon Quest iii SNES version. I played it during the pandemic, got pretty far, but didn't finish it. I JUST heard about he HD-2D version today, so decided to start a fresh game on SNES DQIII ahead of the HD-2D release. The first time through, I didn't want to change any classes or any of that (start back at level 1? are you nuts??) But I ust found this vid, watched it twice, and it's giving me the courage to try forming a party with plans on changing them later. And based on another of your videos, I'll def add more female characters to get at least one of them to "Sexy" (And YES, this info was def worth s subscribe! Thanks!)
This is a great guide. I know all of this stuff as I played the original Dragon Warrior 3 back in the day(on emulator) but this is a great video for new people coming in as Dragon Quest doesn't give tutorials in its early entries. ;)
This is gonna be great to play as a first timer. Also just picked up the Baten Kaitos collection on switch (on sale for 30 atm) after seeing your review. Never played those either so to the backlog they go, which seems to just keep growing and growing this year.
I have played the first 3 versions, and I prefer the GBC, not to say the others weren’t great, because they were. But at least for those 3 versions, there is one thing you miss. For fighters, there defense is also high because speed affects defense as well. I prefer them over soldiers because they have the possibility to do more damage over the soldiers, but that part is just my thought.
LOL the first time I got the boat I went straigt to Japon to Game Over. Not crossing bridges was already before leveling up permanent knowlege when I got to DQ3.
Here's a tip I can add: in most (possibly all) of the 2d dragon quest games, including Tickington and 2d mode of DQ XI S, characters set to "follow orders" require me to tell them what to do at the beginning of the round, and they stick with that even if the enemy performs a big attack before it gets to their turn. Characters set to things like "focus on healing" or "fight wisely" can react to the situation and use healing spells at that point. In 3d dragon quest games, orders are carried out immediately instead of being queued up at the beginning of each round, so this makes less of a difference. I don't know which way DQ3 HD2D will handle the combat.
About that if you have every white/black mage spell in game and set AI to healing they will almost NEVER heal UNTIL you LOSE OVER 75% of the party members HP instead for boss fights they will either use Kabuff until your defense is maxed out or use ATTACK magic only so for bosses just manually control everyone.
I wish but with every attack spell learnt when I set all 3 Non hero's to use Healing spells they would ONLY use ATTACK Magic the Sleep spell or using the spell that increases the party members defense spells EVERY turn and never actually USE Multiheal UNTIL they LOSE like 75% of their max HP with like 4x 500 HP users having the AI use Multiheal when you ONLY have 100 or LESS HP is worthless. Hero party member is the only one that normally learns Omniheal but in MOST of the DQ games the Hero party member is the only one to NOT have a AI tactic and must be manually controlled that and 64 MP per Omniheal to a hero party member that AT lv 99 with the Vamp/Sexy Girl Personality by lv 99 I didn't have the FEMALE hero with even 300 MAX MP at lv 99 so the spell isn't exactly cheap. As for physical skills under use Healing skills only if the AI isn't using attack magic they would use the Physical skills instead for this remake once you learn all of those to go with every white/black magic spell in game the only spell the AI would never use is Bedragon to kill the Metal slime types when the show up the Chance spell that has random outcomes or the Self Destruct spell that kills its users while damaging all enemies at once most NORMAL enemies would be immune to the Self Destruct effect. But if the ROCK Bomb enemies use that Same Self Destruct move its strong ENOUGH to kill a 999 HP LV 99 party instantly but since that move is a SKILL the STOP MAGIC spell is completely useless against i.t
Actually DQ11 was the first game in the series (aside from 10 which is an MMO and thus not truly turn-based) to not have you input the whole party's commands at the start of the round. If you switch to 2D mode however it goes back to playing like the previous games.
This is a great video, but there is just 1 thing I would actually recommend differently: change your Cleric (Pilgrim) into a Sage when you get the book. If you absolutely need that much magic, changing your fighter types into a Sage could work as well, but at that point in the game you probably really only need 2 healers (Hero + Cleric into Sage) and more offensive magic (Hero / Sage / Mage). Later in the game, when you get to the dark world, it is way easier to grind anyone to level 20, so swapping anyone to a Jester (Goof-Off) is the way to go. I guess you could have a Hero and 3 Sages by end game, but having some offensive attackers is also nice, might be worth getting 1 Sage to 50ish for all the magic and swapping to Fighter :D
I do you start to lose control of it permanently WELL before it learns Whistle at lv 13 remakes only so on the upcoming remake that better NOT happen if it needs to be like at lv 40 to learn all of the PHYSICAL skills added to the remake since odds are the class won't ONLY have Whistle as its only move but actually have IN battle skills.
Only played the DQ3 on Snes, though i always choose the female heroine ,while my i self inserted my character into another party member,i hope they will add Party Talk corresponding to the personality we choose(since i remember it only affected our stat up a bit, hope they will expand more onto that)also i hope they will fixed the physical skill by now, hitting only attack(while having phy skill that doesnt even scaled with our stat if im not mistaken)
No the best place before you get the boat is the Tower North of Dharma Temple/All trade's Abby UNTIL lv 40 after that your best off waiting until you have access to the final towns of DQ3 and can kill the Liquid metal slimes. if the upcoming DQ3 remake has the Metal King slimes kill those from lv 40 to lv 99 instead.
Is there a limit to how many spells and abilities a character can have? Or, can all three of my party members acquire all the spells and abilities in the game with enough time and effort?
For this remake the Warrior/Fighter classes are worth using on All the other versions their pure CRAP due to ONLY being able to attack and even with all the White/Black Mage spells in game learnt first don't bother to use them in the Warrior/Fighter classes at all besides Bekill (Twin hits and healing spells). At lv 99 in this remake Multi Fist/Sword Dance will easily outdamage all other physical skills and will outdamage ALL attack magic.
The only reasons those 2 jobs SUCK in the previous versions even with SPELL is that their best damage is only from physical hits but spells still DO MORE damage overall that will change WITH Sword Dance/Multifists doing more damage then spells at lv 99..
It’s not a remaster. It’s a full on remake. They have rebuilt the entire game with completely remade visuals, new story content, revamped gameplay, QoL features, orchestral soundtrack, etc. I’m not saying you need to rush out and buy it if you’d rather wait for a sale but calling it a remaster or comparing it to the existing switch/mobile version (especially since the current version on Switch isn’t even an amazing port itself given it’s just the SNES version with removed features) is drastically underselling what this release is.
I've always loved DQ. Played each one. I have to pass on this because of the nonsense and pandering they're putting in. I can't explain how hard it is to do that
Buy Dragon Quest 3 HD2D here! amzn.to/3SkR1KC

The only reasons those 2 jobs SUCK in the previous versions even with SPELL is that their best damage is only from physical hits but spells still DO MORE damage overall that will change WITH Sword Dance/Multifists doing more damage then spells at lv 99..
Awesome game but its 60$ it should only be 40 i have it on my switch so i'll wait till it goes on sale before i ever buy the remastered version.
@@CeliriaRose Aw so thats why it looks like my Octopath games yea i guess its worth getting i love these old gems
you know games cost $80 + in the 1990's. $60 is like a couple cheeseburgers.
First comment! Woot woot!
I've always loved DQ. Played each one. I have to pass on this because of the nonsense and pandering they're putting in. I can't explain how hard it is to do that
In the remake I am making an all men party with sexy personality! ❤🌈
