My childhood right here - sitting in the stands trying to keep chunks of clay off my hotdog and chips, cheering on Barry and the kiwi team. Great times!
I visited the Western Springs track and the Speedway. I remember seeing Barry Butterworth racing. I also remember seeing Ivan Mauger riding his motorcycle. I preferred going to the Stockcar racing at Waikaraka Park track. Good memories I'm viewing this old footage in 2022.
He was always the charger - great racing begone era Western Springs and the VW powered - Used go quite regularly to watch racing - watch the 50 lap races usually it was the Visitors that use to win they were professional racers (Sleepy Trip, A J Foyt etc) more time behind the wheel and big budgets - to see Barry Butterworth win is awesome - thanks for the video I can almost smell the methyl !!!
I have the same fond memories ! from the 70s & 80s... I used to love the 50 lapper, as a pre teen then it was THE most special thing to witness and the smell !!
Sad all right then complain why no one is outside playing anymore. Kill joy for motorsport fans they moved in its not like they didnt know it was there and was going to be quite.
Was summer 1981 while visiting a friend in mt albert on a saturday night as we whe standing on the front door step you could hear the hum of the racing, after that you couldnt keep me away lol i even took the girlfriend to a meeting when i should of been at my 21st
