Thanks so much for uploading this....I'm always trying to just get a glimpse of my grandfather's car he owned the car that won the 1975 USAC national championship with Larry Dickson driving..I've been to Terre Haute....Eldora and many other tracks when I was a kid......Great memories!
Garry Bettenhausen came out here to Australia in the 1970s, twice if I remember correctly, and I think he raced Midgets. But many of these cars wouldn't have looked at all out of place on the track in a Sprintcar race down here at the time. Although from the other videos that I've seen on this channel, most of our own "Sprintcars" were more like what were described as in another video as "T-Body Supermodified" and a mix of other machines exactly like these. To your eye, it might have seemed a very strange sight. Although we had a very long history of Midgets in Australia, the Sprintcar scene only started to really take off in the 1970s, and the Midgets started to become a bit less of a draw card after that, having been top billing for the previous 30 years nearly.
I remember when I was about 11 years old my dad cotton and I stopped by Jim's house to say hi and he was finishing up on a indy car for the 500 not to often do you get to see that. But in my dad and Jim's world it was natural. 🤠
Opperman...........kinda a sad story, great driver in his prime .one of those guys that should have gotten out when the get-ten was good ,sad what became of him

Terre Haute, Indiana, Vigo County Fairgrounds. WOW!!!! Tony Stewart would race two races in one day. Great memories. Great drag strip there too.
Yes, Opperman showed he was number one.
And always will be.

Drifting is not racing. Its not a race. Apples and oranges.
