Peter never seems to lack his crazy dangerous ideas
Not Really crazy, he's a model builder, so he builds using standard construction practices and designs. Full size plane plans are shrunk down to build models, and small models of full size aircraft are built to test designs. Most plans scale up and down easily, and Peter builds to FAA rules and guidelines for homebuilt aircraft.
Real men (engineers) take risks.

Peter: I actually kinda prefer flying low and slow

Peter's airplane is designed to fly low and slow.
Remind your instructor that every plane flies low and slow. It is called landing. Perfect landing is to stall the plane simultaneously to reaching zero altitude.
@@carolynmiles9281 if you're flying an approach even when there's no landing strip in front of you, you might be doing something wrong.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD the first part of my comment was a joke. The deal with most ultra lights is that the cruise speed and landing speed are not that far apart. I cant remember the model, but I remember one where the cruise speed was 40 and the landing speed was 25.

we used to fit spoilerons on top of the outer wing which acted just like ailerons. which would give you full 3 axis control. great build!
are those similar to wing fins but they are on top of the main wing, like an extra wing but an aileron instead.
@@bjboss1119 No, they are basically a flat plate covered with the same material as the wing about 4"x 2' or so hinged by sewing to the wing along the front and placed at the highest point of the wing profile. they are pulled up like a air brake. this spoils the lift on that wing causing it to drop and so you have a bank. the airflow keps the spoileron against the wing during normal flight

Boeing: “We can’t make electric planes” a random dude on the internet: “Today, we are going to be making our own electric airplane.”
Boeing can't make electric planes because they make huge planes either for cargo or passengers and sadly electric isn't as powerful as jet fuel
The energy potency is much higher in gas than a battery. If you magically turn all the power from a battery into it's equivalent in gas, it would be much less. You can take much less room and weight, or you can go electric. However, I do wonder why they don't use solar panels on the large planes as they would be right up there with the sun as they cruise above the clouds. That might help IDK but it's still not allot and it's an inconsistent variable. Just trust the experts.
