- A comically long review of Transformers: Prime, my favorite show.
I enjoyed this quite a bit and I will probably continue to make reviews as time goes on. Without a doubt this is the largest video project I've ever attempted.

I feel like Transformers Prime is the definition of "I am limited by the technology of my time". The question of what could have been if the studio hadn't put restraints and the show didn't cost a fortune to make. It's a miracle if the show came out decent, but somehow it came out to be an amazing piece of media. Loved the review!
I agree completely. There were so many stakes against the production of Prime. The fact it managed to pull through at all was a major miracle but it is sometimes sad to think of how much better it could have been. Anyhow, thank you!

@@zdraicalicielothese descriptions are even more applicable to beast wars except mainframe actually tried to do things ruled as impossible back when they started work on it and succeeded.
Go watch beast wars transformers, you'll be surprised by how much more sense the plot lines make, especially after season 1 (season 1 is troubled, high highs and low lows)
It's my favorite because it leaves the least amount of plot holes open and has a higher named character kill count than transformers prime. Especially proportional to cast size.

I will forever be grateful for this show introducing the best version of Arcee PERIOD! She's tough, skilled and has a soft heart once you get past the wall she's built from trauma. Won't lie, kid version of me had a crush on her. I'm not ashamed.
Arcee in this show is an absolute badass and just...such an awesome character. I love her so much. Let's be honest, we've all had a crush on Prime Arcee haha.
Arcee was a well-made and developed character. She was a badass whole also not being JUST that; She was traumatized, and because of that, she felt the need to push others away from her. She also wasn't unstoppable and actually found herself in trouble and in need of help than when she was able to succeed. All in all. TFP Arcee was awesome.

Everybody knows that you don't watch Prime for the story, you watch it for the characters, because no Transformers show (other than Animated) has better characterization than Prime.
Prime is definitely top tier characterization.

When I revisited as a teen I was surprised it was way darker than how I remembered it as a kid. Or at least how it started with Megatron being a methhead and trying to resurrect zombies
Also ratchet is the def of dad not wanting dogs then being the one to love them and take care of them the most. Either that or an old racist who grows to love other people and cultures
I was definitely surprised by how somber it was right off the bat. Those first 5 episodes were certainly not kidding around.

I agree that Prime's story isn't anything special, but to me it was inoffensive and good enough to move the show forward, and honestly the great animation made me overlook it's issues. Now if only IDW's stories got show or were at least acknowledged by Hasbro. Great video, more long-form reviews are always welcome!
I completely agree. Prime is one of those rare cases for me that the story is honestly overshadowed by how great everything else is. An IDW story with the look of Prime would be the ultimate show. Thank you muchly! I really appreciate it.
IDW does get some acknowledgement in the form of toys, Tarn has even finally gotten a pretty darn good-looking one, but I don't disagree that we seriously need a show based on that universe.

Aside from the Darkness Rising arc, the Unicron and subsequent Orion Pax arcs, everything between Starscream rejoining the Decepticons and Optimus blowing Darkmount up, and the final battle in the Nemesis, I didn't really care for the actual plot. It always seemed to me as more of a vehicle to explore the characters, and I really enjoyed that. I do wish we got a proper sequel to Prime to wrap up some of the characters' stories in an satisfying way. But I suppose that's what we have fanfiction for, am I right?
I would absolutely LOVE an IDW run animated series.
The show has my favorite Transformers transformations: Quick and directly to the point. I hate the longer ones

I agree with a lot of what you said, but one thing I actually have to disagree with is the Bumblebee characterization. For a character with no voice, I felt like they actually managed to fit him in very well and give him some great moments. While I can see how people say he didn’t do anything, I feel like he was more of the tragic hero. Bumblebee was the younger scout (before Smokescreen of course) trying to prove himself as a warrior, but he constantly paid the price for being in the war, usually by Megatron. After all, Megatron takes his voicebox, injures Raf, take over his body, and finally kills him at the very end. This is why Bumblebee killing Megatron was the best way to end that storyline. Bumblebee was wronged by Megatron more than any of the other characters. On his quest to prove himself (which he does do quite a bit in the show) he also finds the consequences of war. He also gets one of the best endings since his resentment finally comes to a head when he kills Megatron and he becomes knighted as a warrior in Predacons rising. I guess the only big reason to complain here would be that he isn’t nearly as prominent as in other Transformers media. But I do not think that negates his character at all.
I really like this analysis. Considering his past history with Megatron and the fact that, like you say, a lot of personal struggle does happen between them, I could see the reason why the writers chose for him and Megatron to duke it out in the end. If anything, perhaps it is more reasonable to complain that we personally didn't get to actually see a whole lot of Bumblebee's tragedies. It's the same complaint about how we don't see his and Raf's bond really happen much. But overall, from a meta character perspective, what you say makes sense!

This show was my childhood and when i watched it again it still had a pretty good plot especially for a cartoon
Personal opinion about Miko: I'm not sure if I can call her my favorite, but she's the one that stuck in my head the most. I find her has the most potential out of the three to be the big hero. Even higher than Jack. Because she's the one that WANTED to do something. The one that WANTED the adventure. But the Autobot and Jack seems to look down on her because of her personality. From what little back story the show provide about her, it's easy to see the person that she is. She want an adventure, she want to stand out, she want to be important. Since the day I first introduce to her..... TO THIS DAY! it's her that stuck with me. I don't know why..... Maybe because in a way, back then she's the person I want to be. to do what I want without giving shit of critiques. To take risk, big or small to achieve my goal even if it means being a pain in the ass to several people. It's weird isn't it? A show about giant robot and I root for a little girl to be the main character. It's annoys me to no end that "fans" hated her. And furthers angers me to know that until the conclusion of the show she has no arc. She didn't win the Autobots trust to be given any kind of big task. Never having the important conversation with Optimus. At the end of the show, she's still just the side character. While Jack.... He only want a normal life, not on board with the whole transformers stuff at first, and completely fine at being a mediocre...... Got entrusted with the Matrix, go to Cybertron and became the hero that save Optimus...... That doesn't sound's fair isn't it?

Love this take and analysis! Miko is super relatable in some very specific ways. The only thing I can imagine is just that not a whole lot of people relate to her particular mentality, which is obviously okay! But she has a really dynamic personality and her desire to make big changes without having the capability to make them feels very real to me. But yeah, love this! Thanks for the comment.
Transformers prime definitely wasn’t perfect, it was great at times but other times it did get a bit repetitive re searching for relics constantly. While animated is my favourite and I personally find it the better show, I do understand why the show is so loved, I really enjoyed watching it as a kid
The relic hunt and then Predacon bone hunt got a bit old after a while for sure haha. Animated was also a great show. Also sadly ended too soon.

Season was 1 great and best ,2 was 8 out of 10 ,3 was alright

I'm pretty forgiving of TFP's issues given how many issues happened behind the scenes but I might as well mention the things that bugged me. Before that, while Bumblebee didn't get as much as other characters, I do feel that he did get a few moments. It's just that most of what he gets is his feelings about his disability/past trauma with Megatron. He really should've gotten more than being a mute kid with no means of effectively communicating with more than one human and playing videogames with Raf. If not the radio then they could've given him some sign language or had Raf teach the others how to understand the beeps.
My personal gripes bout TFP:
They made a big deal out of taking the kids to the base to protect them except they were only really in danger once they went off on missions to actively help the autobots/cause problems for the decepticons and got seen doing it. A couple other human characters are ignored despite similar circumstances because they're not protagonists and none of the relatives the kids were living with were brought in on it despite actively being in danger. That last part is especially bad because June only got involved because she got abducted to get at Jack for his involvement with Arcee, who spends a lot of time at his house. It strains suspension of disbelief pretty badly.
Soundwave and Shockwave are basically the only named decepticons that don't either turn traitor or get killed by Megatron
They made a point of struggling with a low energon supply but energon mines keep getting blown up
If energon is so hard to come by and making synthetic energon is such a big deal then how did they even last as long as they did? Shouldn't they have run out ages ago?
Cybernucleic acid, robot fossils and robot clones, which raise several questions about cybertronian procreation options and the general state of their species in terms of repopulation potential independent of Cybertron
Predaking I'm sorry but the predacon plotline and by extension your and Shockwave's sole purpose in the story was really bad and a waste of time
Apparently Cybertronians have to crawl out of a really deep hole to be born in this continuity? Why is there even a giant hole into the planet's core anyway? That seems like poor design.
The spark extractor's poor design that begs to get your own people killed trying to use it
The energon siphon being a tool that exists with no safety mechanisms to prevent its misuse as a weapon
Why does the forge of Solus Prime run out of battery? Why did they break the Star Saber literally one episode after getting it?
The Omega Lock doesn't really make much sense to me tbh
The Orion Pax bit was interesting but the matrix wiping people's memories of everything they experienced after getting it if drained and needing to get it re downloaded or whatever didn't make much sense and was low key existential horror about what it implies being a prime entails in this universe.
Over reliance on Miko running through the spacebridge/smuggling herself inside autobots to make plot happen
Over reliance on mcguffin fetch quest plotlines and then not getting a lot of mileage out of them because letting them play out would've been too OP
Sometimes I think about how Prowl was supposed to be in this before getting replaced with Smokescreen and how writing him as a competent strategist would've broken a lot of the plot.
That time the autobots basically handed Megatron a free army of insecticons because they couldn't wait until Airachnid attempted her coup before picking a fight
Starscream was done so dirty having him abdicate his treasonous genius to be loyal to Megatron. Surviving on his own and his pseudo alliance with the autobots was really interesting.
Megatron should've stayed dead, no takebacks.
Man, I should've talked to you before listing my own issues with the show, haha! There's a lot of issues here that I missed, although I did originally include a segment regarding the Omega Lock in my original script draft, as I also felt as though it didn't make much sense. I couldn't find a way to properly display my case on the matter, though, so I dropped it. Thank you for the detailed comment! I really appreciate these.
Many plot lines were dropped because the show was cancelled and the budget was getting to large so the had to write out characters like Arachnid
12:07 if you were wondering the insecticons have like a hive mind most likely here species is supposed to protect the hive but she abuses that power to make them attack whoever she wants

my biggest issue with prime has always been the fact that they suddenly drop important characters, arcs, or plotlines, not carrying them to their full potential or even their logical conclusion... starscream never got a satisfying end to his story, soundwave just got stuffed in a shadow dimension, megatron's choices at the end werent explored or explained enough, i was very unsatisfied with ratchet's writing during the time he joined the decepticons (which!!! i am obsessed with decepticon ratchet!!! usually i will take CRUMBS for this sort of thing but the way they wrote this just did not work for me as well as it could have), arcee didnt get enough of an ending either... basically, i love their characters and arcs, i just wish they would finish the arcs properly! finding out that they planned to have another season kind of explains the lack of ending to certain characters' stories (like arcee and starscream) but some of these are self-contained arcs that DID get an ending, it just wasnt done well (decepticon ratchet).
I absolutely feel you on this one, this is my major complaint as well. The characters are wonderful and they had an extreme amount of potential, but are not given the chance to live up to them! Very disappointing, Prime could've been a total masterpiece if they had been able to work on it just a touch more.

@OrengarMK3 I watched it. I was referring to the events of the movie in my comment. Starscream ambiguously dying is not a satisfying ending to his story imo (which centered around the cycle of abuse)
Another thing: this show was the start of Project E, a project where Hasbro was going to do various shows of their different frnachises(like Transformer, GI joe and Stretch Armstrong), but changes in leadership and creative differences destroyed any chance of this happening.
The characters to me were always what I liked about the Prime hell I have Legacy Bulkhead and Arcee because of Prime.
Arcee: Basically my favorite character in the series she was snarky, witty and at times someone who could understand what you were going through. She could understand others and genuinely was a good teammate, but she still had her faults mainly here rage and her PTSD. We see when Arachnid shows up on earth she starts having flashbacks to when her partner Tailgate is killed right in front of her she’s helpless to stop it and is mocked at for that reason and when we jump back to the present we see a similar situation, but this time she isn’t going to let the same thing happen to Jack. With regards to her rage we see it on full display late in Season 1 during the episode when the Autobots capture Starscream they have him in their custody and they could have all the of the most secretive of Deceptacon knowledge, but as soon as Arcee learns that Starscream was the one that killed Cliffjumper she flips. She lets her anger get the better of her and as a result Starscream escapes and she is left guilty as to allowing herself to succumb to that rage. In general Arcee from Prime is probably my favorite rendition of the character and it probably has to due with the fact that she’s not pink, but blue and it makes more since for her disguise to be a more normal color then a less common color like pink.
Ratchet: I think you summed up Ratchet fairly well and all I have to add is that Jeffery Combs voice acting was great it is weird to see him play a good guy considering they maybe could have him play Knockout and had Knockout’s voice actor play Ratchet considering Knockouts VA voiced Red Alert back in Armada.
Soundwave: As my name suggests I love Soundwave hell the only figure I have from Prime is the Deluxe class Soundwave from 2012. His character in the show was great he stayed as the intelligence officer and could be pretty damn scary at times. The fact that he didn’t have a face and didn’t even speak was just unsettling he just stood there staring at you and you couldn’t tell what he was thinking. His alt mode for the show was genius and I don’t know why other series haven’t thought of making him as such again the Predator Drone perfect fits the Intelligence Officer that is Soundwave. The few things he actually did in the show like Fight Arachnid, fighting Wheeljack or heck during the third season when he intentionally crashed himself then spoke his iconic line in that sinister voice was truly terrifying after not speaking for so long he finally did and it was menacing.
Megatron: Megatron is Megatron he’s the evil warlord leading the Deceptacons and is just as evil as always heck he even had a new made up Cybertronian jet mode just for the show. And his fights with Optimus were truly a sight to behold.
Optimus Prime: Prime was different from iterations he was straight laced and serious he had a moral code and stuck by his personal beliefs. He truly wanted to end the war peacefully even giving Deceptacons a chance to surrender using violence as a last resort. He is was a leader should be flawed, but capable.
Starscream: Starscream was good from his delusions of grandeur to his plans being very half baked at times, but he still was determined and in the end that’s all that matters to him is if he gets to be in charge though that doesn’t normally work out for him. I did like his time a away from the Deceptacons and his miss adventures especially when he made his armada the ending to that episode had one of my favorite lines from the series “I understand your pain. No really I do!” the fade to black as he shot him then just hearing “OH SCRAP THAT HURT!” Probably the funniest thing form Starscream.
Smokescreen: I believe they wanted Hot Rod in this series from the fact that he’s a Rookie, to his alt mode being a slick Lambo style super car, to Optimus seeing him as someone worthy of becoming a Prime it feels like Smokescreen was genuinely supposed to be Hot Rod then after Optimus’s death he would have become Rodimus Prime at some point in the third season, but some thing happened and we got Smokescreen who due to his Hot Rod style of character (as I’m a Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime fan.) I really liked especially with how cocky he could be at times and genuinely trying to mature after he almost got Jack killed.
Bumblebee: *Beep* Bumblebee that is all.
Bulkhead: He was interesting, but really didn’t get to shine to much in the series.
Wheeljack: A nice departure from the usual mad scientist character he always seems to be similar to Arcee he has seen to many friends die and is genuinely sick of growing attached to people only to watch them die, which is genuinely a byproduct of seeing those types of situations.
Breakdown: Was alright had the same problem as Bulkhead as he never got to shine much and then he died.
Arachnid: Was an interesting femme fatale then her story went no where. Then people started making creepy 34 art of her Moving on.
Knockout: Another alright character with nothing really much to do. Kind of waste like a lot of the other Deceptacons.
Cliffjumper: Started a trend of Cliffjumper dying in media.
Dreadwing: A really neat character, shared a spark with Skyquake and was a loyal Deceptacon until he found out the truth of what happened to Skyquake. His death really was sad for him to be shoot by the bot that for eons he idealized and respected most have been devastating in those final moments before his spark went offline.
In summary I genuinely love Prime flaws and all. Yet it will still be my favorite piece of Transformers media considering I could careless about the IDW universe. I’m probably the only person at there that if they heard that the next Transformers series was based off the IDW designs and stories I’d probably be sitting there head in hands questioning why in Primus’s name they were doing that.
The characters really were so cool in Prime. Arcee always meant a lot to me because she was a lot of what I wanted to become some day, when I first watched this show years ago. Thank you very much for the detailed comment and excellent analysis of these characters! I really love seeing how other folks saw these characters and feel about them. Jeffrey Combs was amazing as Ratchet and wow, I never know Knock Out's VA also voiced Red Alert. I learn something new from these comments every day!
You’re definitely right about Bumblebee and the Decipticons. Wish we had more definitive endings for them. That being said me being an Armada guy, I’d love to see a vidya about it sometime. Certified Classic to me.
Definitely going to cover Armada! I really enjoyed it when I saw it but that was a few years ago, so I'll be rewatching it again soon.
finaly a tarsformers youtuber who didnt try to be that seasoned guy who criticize every little detail in the show that was a pretty good and honest review finaly covering all important standards while yes transformers prime is not perfect there not show that is not as bad as people like paperplane claimed it to be because theyre sick of normal veiwers who enjoyed the show without anylising every damn thing like they did awesome work its look like you realy putted a lot of efforts in this and i appreciate it

14:00 there is a theory that because the vehicons are abused throughout the series, they started 'playing dead' or something to avoid being killed.
I don't believe Bee is actually using Morse Code, and if he was I think it would have been pointed out in the show, but that would be an excellent explanation! As for the Vehicons, I feel bad for them, so it's my headcanon that they're just playing dead XD
Honestly I think plot points getting dropped is the least of the shows problems.
For me every fight scene looking EXACTLY the same until the third seasons, made the show drag so hard. It was like oh Fight Scene, time to fast Forward.
And in an action show you don't want to have the action be the part people are skipping.
Oooh, interesting! As someone who already doesn't care for fight scenes none too much, I personally didn't pay too much attention during them and focused on the visuals. The only two I specifically recall enjoying was Ratchet/Opimus vs. Terrorcons and Wheeljack vs. Soundwave. Action is a major part of Transformers and you'd definitely want that to be top tier.
@@zdraicalicielo I found the only memorable one to be Wheeljack and Ultra Magnus, against Predaking, but the stuff in season 3 was all a marked improvement.
The fights in the show were great
12:00 from what ive heard, Airachnid is part of a race called arachnicons or something and they were the masters of insecticons or sum like that and shes the last one left. sounds kinda like a cope to me but whatever
also im pretty sure the insecticons were wild beasts that were domesticated

Yeah, it was clearly set up for there to be a blatant connection between her and the Insecticons, they just never came full circle. But yeah love the voice acting to death. Jeffrey Combs as Ratchet is just...he's perfect.
@@zdraicalicielo, there's actually a fanfic comic called Insecticons: Survival that delves into how Airachnid can control the Insecticons, and it's pretty interesting. It's not canon, but I would highly recommend checking it out, 'cause it's really good. Also, it finally finished Airachnid's story in a pretty satisfying way, so I'd recommend it for that too.

For me Animated and Beast Wars are my favorite tf shows. But Prime was what I grew up on and I watched these episodes countless times growing up to the point its a core part of my childhood and experience with the franchise. It's got its flaws that I've especially noticed as I've gotten older but the characters and world keep me coming back

You dod amazingly and put all of my and many other prime fans feelings and critiques into a comprehensive video and i loved it, i grew up with this show after seeing the first 2007 movie as a kid at the age of 7 and this show came out and gave me everything i loved about the bay films and inspired me to look i to the other aspects and sides of the franchise i didnt know existed and im now a life long fan at the age of 22 and its all thanks to this show treating me like more of an adult when i was only ten years old and have always wanted the franchise to reach the highs this show brought. And optimus in this show was like a father to me when i didnt really have a good one at the time and gave me views and mindset i have today. Thankyou for expressing your love for this show and keep up the good work, ill be subscribing and hoping to see more of your work going forward.

Transformers Prime is the best Transformers series that had ever came out
As a transformers prime fan, I can answer I few of her questions, the reason way black arachnia looks like a spider but transforms to a helicopter is basically just a design choice, in transformers robots in disguise (the 2015 one) is in the same continuity line as prime and the video games fall of cybertron and war of cybertron, in 2015 robots in disguise, there’s some decepticons that have animal like designs in their robot modes, but they still transformer into vehicles (and no, it’s not like beast wars were maximuls and predocons are robots that transformer into animals) take steeljaw for example, in robots in disguise show, he looks like a robot that can turn into a wolf, but instead he turns into a car, it’s the same kind of design choice with characters like Bisk, Thunderhoof, and underbite

I’m pretty new to the transformers fandom as well. I actually started out with prime, because a month ago I heard about it and decided to give it a shot. And now transformers is my current hyper fixation. For the crazy development this show had, it’s actually incredible, and for 2010 dang this show is amazing. It’s a shame it couldn’t continue tho, I would of loved to see more of it. And not the boring scrap we got that is robots in disguise.

over a decade ago prime brought me into transformers and now my grandma when she died i inherited every one of her transformers dvds ranging from the bay movies and gen 1 plus ps3 versions of Fall of cybertron and war for cybertron

This might be the nostalgia bias talking, but I think the era between Animated and Prime was when Transformers was at its peak. I love both shows, but it's for entirely different reasons (although I slightly prefer Prime over Animated).
Excellent video, glad to see another perspective, we guys tend to focus more on the action and even when we analize characters we focus more on their coolness and badassness rather than in the emotional part, you need to watch Beast Wars, I would love your take on it and specially if you take into account that it invented half the concepts in all Transformers media like protoforms and sparks, it was also a show that has the usual Hasbro restrictions and mandates and still came out quite well.

This is going to be a weird complaint, but I really wish that the show had more diversity when it came to enemies. Although there are a lot of great villains in the show, the majority of the enemies are just generic vehicons, which are basically the Decepticon equivalent of a stormtrooper, that get taken out by robots literally half their size. How cool would it be if we got some of the enemies from the WFC games, like the Guardian? It would, at least IMO, make the Decepticons seem a lot more powerful.
Also, fun fact, when I was a kid, I hated Raf. Like, I really hated Raf. I have distinct memories of me calling him a Jimmy Neutron ripoff, and I don't know if I'm justified.
Not weird in the slightest! A lot of fights with the Decepticons got a bit boring after a while because it was just the Autobots mowing down Vehicons. The introduction of the Insecticons made it a little interesting for a while, but that quickly died down as well...overall unfortunate.
I could see kids not caring for Raf. He's a little too smart and grown up, haha. Miko and Jack are pretty normal kids but somethin ain't right with Raf.

Fro what I heard, Aligned Continuity was a COMPLETE mess, with lots of inconsistencies between the shows, games, and books, but mostly just between Prime show and the WFC and FOC games. This was because the people on Prime wanted to make their own story rather than adhering to the games Lore and Continuity.

8:56 it’s kinda explained that when cybertron went dark it was no longer able to support any life but the omega lock would I guess revive primus like how the auto it’s do at the end of the show making it so that the planet could inhabit life which I guess would be making energon again. I kinda wish they would have explained how the omega lock would revive cybertron instead of leaving it up to the viewer to make the most logical assumption about its abilities
I'm 4 minutes in, a year late but I wanted to thank you for writing this/making this video. Prime came out in a time where I was deeply, emotionally upset that Animated got cancelled, and it was actually because of that news (Animated being cancelled) that I swore I would hate this show to my last breath. Animated was my first Transformers in any capacity. My first Megatron (I argue Animated has the best Megatron), my first Optimus, my first ANYTHING related to Transformers.
I was sworn to not wanting to see Prime, but while lazily browsing cable all those years ago, I saw Transformers in the title, saw it was Prime and remember VIVIDLY mumbling "Fine. One episode. Give me a reason to hate it and I will feel justified in never coming back."
Despite my sadness over Animated cancellation, I fell in love with Prime, my first episode being the episode where Optimus gets the Starsaber and cleaves a mountain in half. I was breathless, mesmerized, amazed, everything you could think of. I spent months, years enjoying every ioda of media from Prime, even down to the Marathon the show had leading up to Season 3 (if I remember correctly) and thinking it hysterical Megatrons "favorite song" was the My Little Pony theme song.
Long story short, I love this show regardless of it's shortcomings. Thank you for giving it the time of day.

Understandable! I've had a few folks tell me they personally found Airachnid's part with Arcee to be satisfying, which is very valid.

Ngl, I missed out on this show when it first aired, but eventually I got into it a few years ago and ever since, I rewatch the whole series from time to time.
As for your actual review, really wish you didn't drag out the intro, takes several minutes to really get into the meat of it. Otherwise, pretty in-depth stuff. Agree with ya on Knockout's redemption arc being rushed as hell, even if he himself is best boi.
Also yes, finally someone else thinks bumblebee was kinda ignored in this show. He has his great, impactful moments, but for most of the show, he's a team player who is always with the other autobots.

The vehicons really bug me the most, because the first episode had such a great 2v2 fight scene with them. Their threat level is all over the place, and I honestly think the show would be better without them.
Less time wasted on steamrolling nobodies and more time butting heads with actual characters.
Yes, very much agreed. I understand their point was to make the Autobots feel outnumbered, and in some ways I think TFP succeeded in that, but there were other ways to achieve that same effect that the Decepticons already had. A ship, better technology, better medicine, ect.

Raf can understand bumblebee because he uses morris code to talk if you listen closely you can hear a difference between the lengths in his beeps as well as the pauses between them and raf can understand him because he can understand morris code
Cool theory and makes sense! It doesn't sound like genuine Morse Code, however. And Morse Code takes a long time to articulate as well, so I think Bee would be beeping much faster if he was speaking in Morse.
Definitely worth the praise. It's a perfect show. I wanted to see more duels with Optimus and Megatron using their star sabres.
I do wish we got to see the Star Sabers more. It felt like they were destroyed almost as soon as they were introduced...

What I love in TFP is that every character is important to the plot. They have whole episodes centered around certain characters and their dynamics, but when the characters are not present in an episode, we at least get an explanation. (and they usually are not left out of important plot points, at least on the Autobot side)
I just recently watched the War for Cybertron Netflix series, and the fact that certain characters disappear for episodes is hilarious. Like after Optimus and his team left Cybertron, several of the episodes are taking place at the Ark, and Prowl, Ratchet just dissapeared without any explanation, and they were missing from some very important stuff which happened. XD
Also, I love the fact that Prime characters have proper character arcs. This is the most prominent in Smokescreen's case. But just as you said, some of the characters there were potential for more, and they missed it. T_T
P.S, I absolutely hated MIko, but she got her character arc, and she changed for the better. She just grew on me by the end of the series. ;P
TFP really did an excellent job at the ''no main character'' style of writing. It made every character unique and important to the plot, like you say. There were a lot of beautiful arcs, even if there were some missed ones!
I'd just come off of The Expanse when i started watching Transformers Prime. I love this show, but hearing people call it dark and gritty is kinda laughable.
I think people mainly mean compared to other Transformers shows, haha. It is still a kids' show, after all. As an independent piece of media, it doesn't have anything on pretty much any other sci-fi story.

I think prehaps Prime already ran the risk of being too scary for a lot of kids, so they probably wanted to tame it down. But considering it does take place after the games a grittier setting would have been appropriate, storytelling-wise.

Great video, agree with you that the characters (and characterization) are the best thing Prime had going on, it makes one wish they had better stories to be part of, you might also like Beast Wars (my favorite transformers show) it shares some traits with Prime, like its strongest aspect being characters, Beats Wars has some of the best (and most unique) characters on the franchise, and sadly also suffered from Hasbro intervention (in the end it always has to come to selling toys xd), but managed to work around it much better with great scripts, anyway wish you the best with your RUclips trajectory.
Yes, it's pretty sad that the stories aren't as good as they could be...But I'll definitely check out Beast Wars! A lot of people have told me that it's one of the best Transformers shows out there, so it is for sure on the list. But anyhow, thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
@@zdraicalicielo If you don't mind the terrible designs, the sequel to beast wars, Beast Machines, is darker and it has some bold character developments, I doubt they will ever repeat something like that in an animated transformers show, if Beast Wars manages to make you like their characters Beast Machines will shock you in a good way.

TFP is a specific poce of media for me mostly because I grew up watching it and kinda liked violence in cartoons.
Aside from that, character designes were one of the best of all time.
Mixing G1 and Bayformers was one of the best ideas in my opinion.
Somehow I remember more of bumblebee's plot but after rewatching the show it really seems like it was a wasted potential( but hell those toys were fire)
Plus the fact that they don't say "oh my god" but replace it with "oh my primus" (sorry I know only the polosh version so I quickly translated that without looking at clips) is actually cool because it's LITERALLY they're god and it just gives them so much of a characterization during their speeches.
Also cool video I didn't expected someone to spend sn hour on reviewing TFP.

i loved prime. i watched it on netflix and when the base went down on s2 i literally cried. i waited so long for s3 and i thought it was one of the top 3 transformers shows. along with animated and cybertron. i think alot of your critizisms are valid as i feel there was lots more potential that could have been. i actually based my oc on the prime universe long ago. thats how much i love it. still dont have a single prime toy tho
I've recently finally started a Transformers collection and I personally have had a hard time finding Prime toys that I actually like. I bought a Knockout figure but it was the Legacy one that's mostly based off the comics. Still, all that aside, its flaws also do not alleviate my love for it, either!

The reason why Cybertron looked the way it did was because it's been abandoned for eons after the war; rotting and gathering dust.
The reason I love this show is because it has my favorite versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron. Not just do to voice actors and design, but the portrayal of their rivalry. The only I really didn’t like was Miko. She was a complete idiot who treated the war like a game.
100%, the Optimus and Megatron in Prime were pure gold. As for Miko, completely understandable. I know most folks just kinda found her annoying XD
I personally thinks that this show was so amazing from the stories to the designs the characters themselves the animation everything about it is just so perfect and should never have been cancelled and should still be going today with spin-offs a more movies but this is jus my opinion you are free to think whatever you want about prime.

I loved it. I've never been so happy for a show to exist until I found Prime. I wish it had a longer run and I also wish it was more popular, its community seems to be pretty niche, although I could be mistaken.

And for arachnid being able to control the insecticon hive makes sense entirely as you used the exact clip that explains it they are similar enough for her to be considered a queen as it's known that any hive mind has a queen of some sorts
My main complaint is that it would be really easy to explain both things in a well constructed way, and yet both things are never explained. Like you say, it's not that deep or relevant compared to the rest of the show, but I do believe the show is lesser for it.

I love watching Knockout but I agree that he needed a proper arc. The writers did him dirty. He especially needed a grieving arc for Breakdown. Someone brought up on Tumblr that he kinda exists as a stereotype which is a reflection of the time and just plain homophobia. If he comes back in another show, I hope he gets some much needed depth.

Transformers prime does an excellent job at protraying an already set universe, the show happens after the war for cybertron and jntroduces ys smoothly and straight into the action. The best interpretation of the Megatron and Ootimus rivalry and the caharcters are interesting. Its olot is simole but is rich with characterization. The story is about revibing cybertron through relics, but HOW it happens how the chafacyers have their own goals and clash with one another is in what the series shines

As much as I love this show, I can definitely see all of the flaws and the more potential. This shouldn't be the pinnacle of transformers, it can be so much more and can be greater.
Transformers to me has the unfortunate aspect of being too mediocre, but having these random moments of pure brilliance spotting through tons of different media. But I agree. It could be so much more.

@Zdrajca there are a few(3, I think) tie in novels for the aligned continuity that fill in alot of gaps as far as TF prime goes. They're a little convoluted, but definitely worth checking out.
Soundwave is a company man through and through he doesn't do anything he is not ordered to which is why he did not kill the kids during their encounter at the radio antenna array during the first five episodes so he was probably never ordered to do anything regarding the kids because Megatron didn't think much or anything really of humans at all at least until Jack showed up with the Key to Vector Sigma and restored the Matrix to Orion Pax turning him back into Optimus Prime and after that he was pretty much spending all his time decoding the Iacon Database so ... yeah
