I introduced skip jack fishing to the wife. She thought it was awesome and that it was just so she could have fun lol. I didn’t tell her she was doing my chores with me for bait lol. I did tell her at the end lol. She said ok that’s fine now you have to help me catch a catfish. I did help her catch a bunch so check and check
Found that vid strangely entertaining. Always love the bait catching and a dose rainy/frustrating fishing reminds me of my own adventures. Thanks man - always top quality.
As a committed/committable fisherman, it’s great to see fishing across this great nation of ours. It’s so cool to see the things we do alike and the things we do differently. Makes this the great sport it is.
Hey Spencer ….. Enjoyed the video ! Thank you for responding back…. Connecticut is in a middle of a severe drought not seen in decades. It’s usually the other way around . I’m positive the lack of current and low water killed off the autumn bite. I’m pissed but it’s out of my hands. I tried all three spots where I had success and nothing … not even a bullhead .. I hope you have plenty of winter videos coming! Dan
Took me a break from the interwebs, just now catching up on your vids. I gotta say for the knots. 99% of the time, I will use a palomar knot, but certain instances require a surgeons knot or dropper loop knots. Fly fishing, my go to is a blood knot for attaching tippet to the main fly line and then improved clinch knots to attach the bugs.
I always enjoy dam fishing. You really never know what you will get. The biggest flathead I have seen in person was caught by a guy bank fishing for stripe with a white rooster tail using light spinning gear at this exact dam. The fish crushed it just as the bait was coming into the big riprap. He must have fought it for an hour and was climbing all over the big rocks the entire time to get the fish in.This area of the TN River holds some massive fish. The locals I know that target only the largest fish use 2-3 lb bait minimum and they are regularly hauling in 65lb plus fish. Go big or go home. The Coosa River which is not terribly far from Guntersville also holds many 50+ lb cats around the Gadsden area. Not long ago a 100+ was caught and released.
Bad days happen to us all I guess, even the best of us. I had a day like this Sat evening fishing for walleye. There was a school of aggressive large fish (for the river I fish anyways). They were hitting right on top with just a floating jig head and live minnow. Couldn't keep them pinned for some reason, lost 7 of 9 fish. Still was great fun. We all know Spencer will put the hurt on them soon enough!
Had to put my boat away for winter. I’ll have live vicariously through you for a while. Haha dream of the day I have heated shop and can chase musky till December 15th. Cheers from Canada!
Yeah buddy, when ya were @ 18;40 you did lose the bait & the fish - Both ! Such is fishing & be glad a rod -n- reel didn't go over as well but I'll give you credit for staying out there right into the rain storm. A dedicated fisherman, peace
Bud, u had the day I had today. I fish Santee River once a week and lost 3 at the boat ( rarely loose one) and the only bait I caught was with a cast net but enough for 2 cats and my dog, lol, love your content, keep at it!
I noticed you have a Chasin Jacks rod, we love ours! We also have a couple Chasin Cats rods medium action, also great rods for channels but we use them for blues as well great fighting fun!
Maybe they could make curved point hooks Sabiki to make it a little easier to keep those skip jacks hooked. It looks like my saturday fishing trip, rain jacket on almost all day long lol. Thanks for sharing with us, Spencer!
They're pretty curved already, but it might be worth giving it a try. I hadn't considered that. I definitely appreciate the suggestion. Thanks for watching as always man!
Never seen someone lose so many, but you being a cubs fan I guess you're used to losing alot... GO BRAVES!!! just teasing...I'd have been eating white bass for days if I'd been you.
Squeeked in first again! Well we fished near tge needles on the Isle of Wight yesterday we had 40plus Conger eels to about 35lb a spotted Ray a pout and a few dog fish. We had a busy day. I really enjoyed your video this evening I like the catching bait and turd slurpers if not many at least you got dinner ! Jeez that was chucking down at the end there Spencer
@@RiverCertified as good as your turd slurpers they do the same as cats and make holes they live in so it's fun getting them out of the hole in a big tide running at 8 knots
Running Spot lock and whatnot on your batteries, make sure you keep a little jump box charging all the time in your battery box, that way if you do in fact run your batteries too low to start your boat, you can use a little jump box to get you out of a jam. You have probably already thought of that, but I was just thinking about how much battery it would use to run spot lock on that rough water.
I appreciate that. I keep one in my boat. My trolling motor doesn't run on the same battery that's starts my big motor, so it's not a huge concern. Plus they're lithium, so they will handle that all day no problem.
Better be careful down there in Richard Gene's domain. I hear he's a mean one and territorial. P.s. if those skipjack are anything like hickory shad(look em up) I think they are, rod tip down as soon as they hit. Hickory shad will just "bump" lures a lot too, color can make a big difference when that's the case.
Do you always run a float in fast water with your skip setup? Never done it myself. Better luck? I like to let it sink in fast current then adjust retrieve per bottom. Obviously lose less rigs with float.
How are those Piscifun reels treating you lately? Have they done anything weird to you yet? They look like a great reel, and I'm interested in them, but kind of an investment when ballin on a budget. Thanks for the vids. You're like the big brother that never takes me fishing, jk I'll book a trip with you one day I hope.

Hell yeah man. That sounds like a pretty solid win-win situation to me.
Couple of adages for you "When it rains it pours" and "A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work" good video.
Thanks for taking us along!
You bet man!
Found that vid strangely entertaining. Always love the bait catching and a dose rainy/frustrating fishing reminds me of my own adventures. Thanks man - always top quality.
Had many trips like that one. It's all part of it and a lot of times I find that those trips teach me the most .
I couldn't agree more with that statement. Thank you for watching.
As a committed/committable fisherman, it’s great to see fishing across this great nation of ours. It’s so cool to see the things we do alike and the things we do differently. Makes this the great sport it is.
Amen to that. I'm glad you enjoy it. I love getting the opportunity to check out all these places.
Really glad you are wearing your life jacket dude. Those are some choppy waters.
Great video as always man. 💪🏼
It's the law when fishing below dams down there, but there's enough back currents I'd definitely wear one up there anyway. I appreciate it man.
Some days you're à fisherman and some days you're a catching machine ,thanks for the trip Spencer
That's the reality. Thanks for watching Jim.

They're in there somewhere. Hopefully you find em man!

It's amazing how flexible you become when you haven't caught anything prior!! It's the same for all of us.
You ain't wrong haha

good trip. sometimes i just like to be out there. its all part of the fishing game...
Another excellent upload! Thanks Spencer!!!
Glad you enjoyed it David!

Quite a different scenario from where you are to Northwest Florida. Not much over 40 foot deep around here max. That would be your flats and shallows.
I love fishing a heavy rains. Catfish seem to bite so much better. Dont do alot of river fishing though
Caught my new PB Crappie on Cumberland today. Just shy of 18" almost 3 pounds. Big ol Slab. We caught a well full by 11.
Had to put my boat away for winter. I’ll have live vicariously through you for a while. Haha dream of the day I have heated shop and can chase musky till December 15th. Cheers from Canada!
I hope you make it happen man. I hope to have one of those one of these days too.
Great video, as always. I envy your youth and enthusiasm.
We have been using a trailing hook on our spoons and I think it helps a lot on those short striking skips.
👍👍👍👍👍great 🎣video Spencer and be safe out there.

Try a slower retrieve when fishing for skip jack because they tend to swing and miss. Great video
I noticed you have a Chasin Jacks rod, we love ours! We also have a couple Chasin Cats rods medium action, also great rods for channels but we use them for blues as well great fighting fun!
That's awesome. I like it pretty well. Definitely does the job.
Thanks again. Great work
With my luck this year ,I would have had a blast ,just catching those white bass.
Maybe they could make curved point hooks Sabiki to make it a little easier to keep those skip jacks hooked.

Oh and blessings to you and yours from southwest Georgia 🤘
Berkley Gulp... CHARTREUSE works best for me...and they work amazing on a dropshot for catfish...I'm fishing both dams and old bridge peers.
Squeeked in first again!

Sounds like a fun day on the water, and definitely a different kind of fishing than I've ever seen. do those eels fight very good?
@@RiverCertified as good as your turd slurpers they do the same as cats and make holes they live in so it's fun getting them out of the hole in a big tide running at 8 knots
I have one of those bcf bumping rods and I love it. Now I can't find anymore anywhere 😕
I sure wish I was with you catching those white bass!!
They're a blast man. They fight so good for their size.
Totally enjoyed watching Spencer.use same method on sinker drop.💯👍
You bet Jeff. Really glad you enjoyed it!
My buddy use to tie the hook leader line not in line with the main line till that swivel snapped.😅
Heck yes ..Nice video!
Pork soda frizzle fried bluecat slime , yum.
Grade A for sure
If ya don't succeed well you know, And you didn't melt great job Spencer 😊👍
I did not, and I'll be back at them again. Thanks for watching Randy!

Man talk about a rough day at work😂
If you would use that same setup but put a small spoon at the bottom that should tear the skipjack up!
Is that the Guntersville dam?
Hellya always good vids
I'm glad you enjoyed it Steve
Micka uses them white bass with great success.
Better be careful down there in Richard Gene's domain. I hear he's a mean one and territorial.

Hickory shad will just "bump" lures a lot too, color can make a big difference when that's the case.
Hey a lol trick an old man showed me put a small treble on your hook like a stinger hook and it will get you more skips to the boat
Another good video, thx again
Glad you enjoyed it
I have better luck with smaller sabiki rigs, big skips hit tiny hooks and it seems to keep them on better. Just a thought
Have you ever used white bass for bluecats ? We catch a lot of blues on white bass .
Definitely, just not in this state. They're illegal there.
Fish on
Fish on
At least you know why you lost that Fish… Go get’m
I'm gonna stay after em. Thanks for watching man.

Great video as usual! What gear ratio do you prefer for the Piscifun reels?
Thanks dude! For bumping i use an 8:1:1, i use a 6:6:1 for everything else.
What are you using to catch the skip jack?
I've seen how those Bimini tops are made it's cool
I bet it is. I don't ever want a boat without one.
@RiverCertified me either
What’s the record for you? What finally landed my first big catfish. Measured 36” and just shy of 21LBS. Anxious to go back for bigger.
Let's go spencer
Hell yeah man. Thanks for watching!
HeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyBauer!!! 🎣🥇🎣🥇🎣🥇🎣🥇
Yoooooooooooo!
Fished below the dam last three days dam fishing I know well
How are those Piscifun reels treating you lately? Have they done anything weird to you yet? They look like a great reel, and I'm interested in them, but kind of an investment when ballin on a budget. Thanks for the vids. You're like the big brother that never takes me fishing, jk I'll book a trip with you one day I hope.
what is the rig you are using to catch the skip jack?
You must be in Alabama, sure wish I could fish with you. Maybe one day 😊
I sure am. Let me know when you want to book that trip we talked about.
Do you ever fish the Ohio? Not sure if you’ve ever mentioned the river.
Not the most exciting video but very entertaining keep it up man
Appreciate that. There's gonna be some slow days, so I figured I'd share one. Glad you still enjoyed it.
RIGHT UP AT THE DAM, YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND MORE BAIT
White bass arent good bait this time of the year? Seems like they would be worth a try if you are having trouble getting skipjack
I definitely would but the aren't legally allowed
@ ohhhh ok
What dam are you at?
Did the skipjacks have paper mouth like crappie??
No in fact they are the exact opposite. Very boney mouths but when they are committed, they are committed lol
Not as much, but yeah. They have super bony mouths though.
Ok. 😂😂😂
Attaboy 👊
Thanks Denny!
I'm takin a dook while watchin
Hell yes
What kind of sabiki rigs are you using for skipjack?
I really like the Ocean Cat ones.
MY NAME IS GRANDPA CATFISH. YOU NEED ME TO BE WITH YOU,FOR GOOD LUCK..LOL.
Some days be like that.
That's a fact
What's that little setup on top of your cooler?
It's a cuttingboard and I made a spot for a tackle box under it.
@ nice just screws attaching it to the cooler?
Is skipjack different than a hickory shad ?
Yeah, but they're related.
@ still need to get you to VA for the shad run / cat fishing in the James
What river is that Spencer?
tn river, low side of guntersville dam, alabama
You coming back to cat con this year brother
Yessir
What lake was ya fishing?
is is below guntersville dam, alabama.
Skipjack definitely has bonier mouths than white bass, I prefer the blade bait I feel like they dont get off as easy
Never tried blade baits for them. That's a great idea. Thanks man.
Howdy!
Yooooooo
Can you make a night dam fishing video spencer please
Skipjack slave!? I can think of worse servitude! 😉♥
You ain't wrong. I had my wife and mom helping me catch them this weekend and they had a blast!
lmao,,, unexpected catch title
🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣👍👍👍👍👍
Where's the information??
SOMETIME, USE SMALL WORMS TO CATCH YOUR BAIT FISH. JUST DROP BAIT STAIGHT DOWN FROM BOAT ?????
WHY CANT YOU USE WHITE BASS FOR BAIT,WHERE YOU WERE
Probly lost him cause it was a whisker hook
👍💪👏🏻👍
We call them wipe ass up here in MN. Love to hate them while fishing for eyeballs.
They put a bend in a fishing rod, and I appreciate that. Just wish I could use them for bait down here.
CAST NET WOULD BE BETTER
You might be a slave to the furry Skip Jack. 😅
😆😆😆
"Skipjackin?" Never "Skipjackin!" sorry
DRUM MAKE GOOD CUT BAIT
Yo bro
Yooooo
@RiverCertified was just saying hi , hadn't seen anything from you in a bit. Everyone needs a break now and then but it's fishing 😎🤣😂
You bought all that gear. Then just let goooo...???
I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Nice
