It's extraordinary finding this here. I've been looking for this documentary for nearly 30 years - Man, that is scary. Buzzcocks were the first band to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. And I remember seeing this in 78 when I was 14, living in Manchester and 5'2" so getting into gigs was a bit difficult. Brilliant upload, thank you so much
Thanks for this documentary it is class. I saw the Buzzcocks for the first time this year in manchester they are the best live band ever. just found out today that Magazine are playing electric picnic this year which i am going to. Gonna see both bands in the one year. Holy Crap. This is The best year ever.
Great stuff. saw joy division supporting buzzcocks in late 79 at Liverpool Mountford Hall. Superb gig. but i think the B uzzcocks knew theyre days were numbered. loved the buzzcocks tho. great band. still got spiral scratch on new hormones lol.
I saw them in Paisley's Silver Thread Hotel in 1977 for 50p! Howie had just left. They were of course fab! Thanks for posting this doc, sir...you're a toff!
I was there too :). Saw loads of punk bands at the Silver Thread in Paisley (due to Glasgow Council banning punk bands!), Buzzcocks, The Lurkers, The Adverts, to name a few :)
Hster333, Yeah I couldn''t agree more. The Exploited are the lowest form of Punk I've ever heared. I have no idea why they are so popular. They toured Australia once a few yesrs ago and I had absolutley no interest in seeing them. I mean the terrible attempts at writing songs such as "Sex and Violence" are so bad ! The Buzzcocks have toured Australia about 6 or 7 times and I've seen every show they've played in Sydney. The best live band, so much fun. I wish they'd put out a new Album, Its time.
Mr Dutylux - whoever you are. I can't get over this. I've wanted this documentary for so long....and now I've got it on my iPod. I can watch this fledgling band(s) - can't stand Magazine really - on my iPod. Where did you find this?? Even Granada couldn't give me a copy
I'll bet Shelley to this day is afraid of Devoto. Not that there is any sort of acrimony or credit or animosity over their legacies. Both great. Just seems like Oxford vs. Mickey Mouse intellectually. Love both bands but Magazine is like a fine wine that continues to appreciate in value over time.

Proper punk band that knew a tune when they heard it. RIP Pete.

So glad to be alive to witness these legends of music
So shocked to hear of the death of Pete Shelley, I loved Buzzcocks. I thought he was the Adrian Mole of Punk. In the nicest possible way, of course.
I have copy of Spiral Scratch. Must see what it's worth. Not that i'd ever actually sell it.
Great Docu BTW>
NiGl
I also studied at Bolton Institute but became a Civil Engineer, bdum bdum, loved both bands but the zine are best.
Both quite brilliant, but for me Magazine are one of the best ever.

Yaaaaaay! Happy punk rock days.

Manchester is an emptier place without Tony Wilson and Pete Shelley but it is an even more incredible place because of them.
Its full of marxism now
1:50 "I was incredibly... bored!" :0)
ive got a copy of spiral scratch on vinyl,in perfect condition...in fact it is still sealed.

R.I.P. Pete and Tony.

The Exploited were crap. Has-beens before they had even been, and Wattie Buchan was nothing but a thug with a mike.
cyclopsicle, I'm not easily amused and that comment made me laugh a bunch, too! AT ALL AT ALL AT ALL

Am i the only one who hears Metal Machine Music around 4:44?
got it for 99p in 79 mind you it was a re issue
Howard certainly needed shot at both sides for that haircut.
Imagine if The La's didn't move on without Mike Badger 10 years later......same,same.
?
Liked their original name, Coke Nose
@decaysvegan Forget the Exploited, regardless. They're boring.
Howard Devoto , the Punk intellectual !!
