Buying the CHEAPEST Honda Accord at the auction! Save or scrap?

- Sometimes, a car shows up that is a Diamond in the rough. But, is this one of those times? Feast your eyes on a 2004 Honda accord fresh from the local auction. She’s dented, she’s faded, and let’s face it, her best days are probably behind her.
But that won’t stop us from trying to save it! The motor seems to run strong, and the transmission shifts out good. So let’s see what else it’s going to need and what we can make of her!
Long as she’s running I’d say she’s worth saving. Still got some life in her yet. Ain’t pretty but she will get someone where they need to go.
Noticed it didn't have a check engine light either and the ac works. Good beat around car for someone
You deserve 100k subs. I have faith it will happen. Thanks for sharing As always great videos
As someone in NY, that car is worth it. No rust is worth a lot here.
Keep that positive attitude there Jay!😊 I've been a subscriber forever, can't believe you're not weigh over 100,000. People don't know what they're missing,🎉😮❤
That Accord was a $ 24 K when new and the Automatic Transmission was a outrageous $1,600 option !
A little time and money, it will be a decent car. Up here in Michigan, our vehicles are usually rusted out.
Randy at AAR is in process of getting the title finally.
Great video Jay, always enjoy watching 😊
Id watch videos of these old hondas/cars all day long vs videos of a lambo, just not my interest, this is, great content sir.
Edit: that car will get someone to point a to b, thats all a lot need, its crazy. I seen someone walking to work at a gas station from a trailer park, THAT car would make a huge impact on someone's life, dont knock it until you been in these situations people, cheap car can be a life saver.
So she needs a little work. She runs well and blows cold air. That’s a winner here in the south. I don’t know Jay. I like it!
We have one, 2003 Accord V6 that we gave to a friend and they use it as an extra car. 325,000 miles and it keeps on going.
the market is crazy everywhere. Here in Brazil, VW closed their factories for some days, bc no one is buying new cars, only used.
I love all the lights popping up. In the previous generation accord, the triangle, TSC, and check engine light usually meant the kiss of death for your transmission
Looks decent , Like for a beater to run around in. I’d definitely change out the driver’s seat..lol most vehicles that year are all rusted out here.. but might find good interior and other parts for that stuff. I’m so far north it would be another summer car.. I drive Subaru’s for the winter here.. have a 2010 Forester for now..was 2,500$ and had been rust proofed a lot.
This market is insane. In illinois these cars have 150k miles, rust like crazy, have issues. And they still want 20 grand. Definitely hard to make a buck in this business.
Lol just imagine that accord was brand new at one time and super clean 😱
I would rather buy that than any new EV! I am afraid the used ICE market will only get higher due to the shortcomings of the EVs. Fixing up would be worth it due to the Honda reliability factor.
Man that’s a nice accord. Love how your knocking on it. Little bit of elbow grease and that will be a sweet ride.
A great A to B car. The engine sounds healthy 😊👍
Hey Jay! Thanks for the video, I really like your talking while driving stuff. The used car market blew up here in Europe too. People barely buy new cars, so with it the used car prices skyrocketed as well. And even though we have "inspection", people -like everywhere- are corrupted, and let anything go for a little money. Since the labor fee and the parts prices increased rapidly as well, people don't really have money to maintain their cars - even though much of them didn't do so when they had money.
Wish i knew a guy for inspections im tired of failing for tiny rust holes
just bought a 96 accord 4cyl 5 speed with 270k on her and she runs like a dream! paid $800 for it and threw a new clutch flywheel and rear main seal in it and drive it daily 40+ miles to work. cheap hondas rock and someone definitely bought that and made it a good daily!
It's got potential. I had a 2006 Accord coupe with a 4-cyl. Unfortunately, a drunk driver ran a stop sign, and I T-boned him (I did walk away, though). Gotta admit, I'm gonna miss that car.
Jay it’s worth saving. I have the same car at 269k. V6 with original transmission
You ain't kidding about the used car market. Up here in the north (The sinful salt belt rust bucket territory) The average car with 100 to 250 k rotted to the point of not being inspected (state safety inspection) are running around $3000.00 and are technically being sold as parts or repair cars and I'll tell ya there's not much to repair on one of these rot boxes. The last couple of cars Ive purchased one came from Florida and one from Tennessee that Honda of yours not being a rot box is gold in comparison to the crap up here. And you would be correct people are not buying new cars or trucks becouse of the price tag. And the sad part is car manufacturers are having cars built in Mexico Mexico becouse they tons of money on labor cost. on your honda park it in the sun on the dent quarter side get it nice and hot and put the ole bathroom plunger to it pop it out as best you can And the head liner a little spray adhesive on the head liner board and just stick it back up there.😊👍
If the tranny is good, she's worth fixing. I picked up an 03 a few months ago for $650 at a police auction near DC, also a V6. Runs and drives with 155k, the hood and left fender are mismatched, the power steering pump was shot, and it has some oil leaks, but it'll make someone a good car for under $3000. And right now, cheap cars are what people need.
Save. This gen of accord is probably the best of the post y2k generation.
Seeing that the automatic transmissions attached to those j32/j35 engines are well known for failing. I don’t think it’s worth keeping unless it has the K24 engine.
@@applepoop10 those trannies only fail from negligent fluid changes. That is the issue. Gotta do the fluid between 30-50k to make sure they are freshened up. The torque converter is especially fragile to lack of proper maintenance, that tends to lead to further issues.
@@cavalierliberty6838 not always, I’ve seem them fail regardless of maintenance schedule. The failure point is the clutch packs, they are weak and to tend slip a bit because they can’t handle the power from the V6 engine. If you want reliable and better aftermarket support, the K24 is a better option.
I got a Honda Accord myself but it is a 2014 and only has a little over 50,000 miles on it. It's going to last me forever because I bought it new in 2014.
Add up all the modules on your car and do the Math. Run Forever.?
2005 Accord 4 door EX 4 cylinder auto. 286k all original. Drives like new. Got it with 258k in April 2022.
That is proper mange. That RAV4 you found a cook spoon in felt safer, cleaner, and loved a lot more. Reminds me of a car I had to inspect (and failed) for a TX state inspection. A 2007 Honda Odyssey that is loaded up, but has 250k on the clock and was... well... clapped, smelled like cat piss inside and it keeps on failing cause the check engine light keeps coming on... did I mention it's from a buy here pay here lot?
I wish they would bring back state inspections here. I’ve thought about moving closer to home across the state line (NC) just to work with inspection cars. Some of the things people get away with driving around here is scary. Just knowing that garbage is going down the road beside me. SMH. And I agree, I loved that RAV4 and it sold quick! This is a much bigger project
@@MXguy95Same with Floridia and maryland when it comes to cars safety up in Pennsylvania we have inspection I seen a former floridian suv have serous rust and it newer owner had to get bondo to pass inspection.
West Virginia has safety inspections. Helped my mom take the ex-Secret Service Suburban in for its annual earlier this year. Virginia used to have safety inspections required every six months. That ended in the 1980's.
@@stevevarholy2011 Then that I saw a truck was barely together with rachet straps in ohio.
I've got my dad's '04 LX 2.4L 94k miles. I am keeping it forever. Also have a well maintained 2010 Pilot. It stays home more often. Gas mileage not so great on that. Dependable, though.
The 4 cylinder accords IMO are much better choices. I love those, and they take a beating. The 6 cylinder does pack a punch but the fuel mileage, constant oil leaks, and other failures just don’t seem like an appealing trade off
@@MXguy95 The 3.5L works hard to propel the 4500lb Sherman Tank. (aka Pilot)
@@thatv8life186 Love Honda/Toyota reliability. I daily drove a 1989 Grand Marquis LS from 1997-2018. It was also extremely reliable. I did have to install a used transmission because of a plastic grommet that failed on the overdrive. I purchased an aftermarket brass one. Problem solved.
But if there is anyone who could clean that thing up and make it valuable again, it's you, Jay.
You are now at 100k Subs. Good job ive been watching you for years man.
Spider web can have beauty too. Think about working with the paint and not against it. Let it be what it is. It's OK. Plastidip changes old clear coat in a good way.
$1,000 for this (if I heard that right) isn’t bad at all. Good room to spend on it but not a lot of profit after.
Also, hope 100k comes soon, you definitely deserve it!
Need gloves on to deal with that one LOL. That car is valuable to folks up my way in New England with so little rust. A lot of good body parts for someone interested in parting it. My neighbor in the last year paid $2,500 for a fully clapped out 87 Celica in FL that was perfectly rust free. He only wants the engine (some 4A yadda yadda I don't know....) to build up. He's parting out the rest and guessing he'll only be about $1k or less in the engine. No idea if the Honda 3.0 is something builders want or not.
I’ve sent tons of cars further north to sell. Especially weirdly specific cars like first Gen CRVs, jeep cherokees (the XJs) first gen S10s etc etc. we have to watch out though, the auctions have been moving around cars and a few dealers have been selling northern cars down here. We deal with minimal salt rust thanks to the mountains we’re they still salt during the winter. But for the most part it’s just sun damage that wears the cars paint and interior here. I’d like to get hooked up with someone up your way to ship cars to sell.
@@MXguy95I wish I can be a car transporter with being a hot shot driver I have DL but not CDL B I am not a hot shot driver yet.
@@MXguy95 I"ve heard really bad stories about NY state so my inclination would be to avoid it. Lots of title games are played for starters. I'll ask around my neck of the woods across New England. Also have some friends who part-time build cars in PA so I'll see what they know about dealers. No idea, but I would've thought used cars would be getting even hotter b/c with the newest rate hikes the best car financing is now probably 10% ish and more. Might make the
Nothing wrong with this car. When a guy needs to get from point A to point B to a job, this car would be great...
Hey Jay! Congrats on reaching 100k subscribers! I had zero doubt you’d make it man! 🥳
15:14 When he popped the trunk I was expecting the classic Jay Smart "Mystery Stains" and guess what, he said it 😂
Mother's Aluminum and chrome polish will clean, clear those headlights up nicely. Which in itself doesn't make the car look older than it is
Dude honda buyers are hard to sell too with this conditions trust me unless you clean it and make $500 on it and the Airbags check the passenger seat wires they always get cut.
Long as she gets ya from a to b who cares what the neighbors think 😂
My feeling exactly!
Me: "That car looks fine other than a bit of paint fading."
Jay opens the door.
Me: "Oh...."
I call that a "rainy day car"......You can drive it in the rain, down the muddiest roads and never worry about washing it! 😅 Just keep the drivetrain, wheels, and suspension maintained and you're good to go! It'll make a good car for somebody....maybe. Hopefully
I bought a 99 accord EX sedan 4 cyl automatic for $1,100. Ac works enough to enjoy, good on gas when not using the a/c, runs decent.
Had a brown four door 79 Lebaron that had bad clear coat like that, I wiped the entire car down with a rag and a quart of motor oil, stayed looking good til day I sold it a year or so later, Like the Vid
Not that bad of a car really, I'd drive it everywhere yes another vid, like to see vids
Hey ! Glad to see you still here! That big box era lebaron was a good look for Chrysler. I crushed a ton of them back at the scrapyard sadly. And yes! We’ve used Linseed oil in the past to clean up paint. And it works wonders on fading plastic with long last results too! Just make sure it dries all the way before you go touching it 😂
Colour is nice. Looks borderline respectable. Actually kinda sexy owing to the decent size. I'd say 2k buy and drop 4k. Annual refurbishment add 3k every year. I'd say 2 and half ish years and then dump it for a V6 coupe 2 door assuming your fortunes change by then. In India accord means top of the line and PPL compare it to entry level luxury euro marques. My cousin brother owned a similar vintage CRV and he has driven some nice cars like Benz convertible and Porsche etc etc.
Nice car a little ruff but it's savable but might not get the money back but it's getting harder to find them
Keep at it Jay! You’ll be at 100K Subscribers soon enough. Long time subscriber here.
I love your channel this is good content and informative and funny as hell, good job man!
Thanks for another video Jay! That Honda isn't that bad it drives and runs! Trust me it could make a huge difference in someones life. There are people out there that need something like this. You will break 100k subscribers soon I have faith it will happen. It will get somebody somewhere A to B!
I think this is worth saving! Hondas will go down the road reliably with hardly any issues! On top of that, there are always people looking for dependable & cheap cars out there! Whether it’s people who do not have a big overall budget at all or if it’s someone who works in the military & doesn’t want to drive to military bases with anything nice, this will certainly fit the bill!!
One possible option is that You could do the radio since it’s only $75, do the headliner so it doesn’t get in anyone’s face while driving & so it presents better, MAYBE it’s possible to polish the lights so the lights work better and give off a better look, and get this detailed. If you at least do those, it’ll sell & fit the bill for someone with a low budget. Plus it’s hard to get perfect Hondas now in this crazy market. When it comes to the seats cracking, someone can always get a seat cover or something like that to hide the cracks if they don’t want to get it reupholstered. But I wouldn’t worry about the paint or the dents or anything of that nature. If anyone buys this as a low budget beater, they aren’t gonna care about any of that stuff. But anyway, that’s what I would suggest! Hope this helps your decision! Love the channel btw! You’ll make it to 100k soon! I believe in you man!
Looks like 200,000 miles of neglect
Nothing wrong to have a beater even in texas. I have three cars with low miles but love my fourth car which is209 dodge journey 250,000 miles . Clear coat coming off the hood but car runs great and is perfect for just around town stuff
A good old toilet plunger will pull most of that dent out. I've done it. It won't be perfect, but it works.
Under that rough, tortured exterior, it's better looking than most new Hondas!
Thanks for the video Jay! Cheers
Haven't seen your post in a while keep up the good work
She has "good bones" and wants to live. If you find a decent donor cheap(good luck with that) it might be worth your while.
Woodgrain finish, LGR approved!
Sweet looking grey g20 in the background 👀👀😏
Fix it and paint it... $600 to fix dent and paint it, will add $1000 to the value... FInd another seat in the scrap yard, or learn to cover it yourself, you can buy AM covers that look like factory (you pull factory off and apply new one) and you can get both front seats covers for less than $200, you can order some seat paint based on Vin number for the back seats (under $30) to recoat the seats. Head liner... go to Joann Fabrics buy a similar material in black... no one will care based on model year, or yank one from a scrap yard... not that hard to do and with the sunroof it makes it easier.
Hey, it looks good enough. I would just use as a second hand vehicle. To take the work and park it and then drive it home.
Your content is always interesting, so your number of subscibers will increase, albeit slowly. I do recall in a vid last year you did a clothing move to increase numbers...perhaps try that again?
Honda looks and sounds good to me id snag it up real quick
Fancy seeing you using HDR again!
HDR (high dynamic range) in Camera helps you get great shots in high-contrast situations.
I'd fix the radio and the replace the drivers seat and drive what's left of it. It's got Cold AC and heated seats so I would be happy.
Hello, Jay! At 14:50 you said you had trouble finding subjects for videos. Don't worry! Just make a video about anything, and your fans will watch it- even if you just drink a beer and talk about the weather!
That poor baby is beat! But it runs and drives. Just bought a 03 Passat to replace the 00 Passat that my son wrecked. For $1800 it was Worth it just because I had the 00’ to trade parts off of and I was not looking to resell it. Just needed a good safe car for the boy to drive. It helped that it was a car no one really wants. All it really needed was a timing belt and a brake caliper. Hard times in the used car market. I work at a Honda dealer and can find savable and resealable cars from time to time. Not often though any more.
Would make a good beater with ac.
My neighbor has a sedan 4 door accord 2007. He uses it mainly to get by, it leaks oil through a gasket. Afraid to repair it since the mechanics may ruin it. Other than that it does him good, but he does not trust it for a long road trip anymore. After the ac compressor broke. It let him down once completely when the ballpoint in front left broke. But has been fixed, bought brand new and a good choice.
This could be the case for this red accord coupe. Good for someone to get by.
When I see your videos. First thing I always check is the amount of subscriber and always like. WTH! You deserve more then 100k. Always a good video
Maybe one day! But thank you for watching!
Im always hearing transmissions go in the accords that have the v6.
For that dent id just go to Walmart buy the suction cup dent puller. Would be cheaper. It would pull it out somewhat.
Cant wait to see what you do to it! And, to see the other car too!
That is a classic version of what used to a be a 500 dollar car. it wasnt pretty usually pretty roached, had some warning lights on. but hell engine cranked up and ran smooth and she would find all the gears that she was given. sadly a 500 dollar car 10 years ago is a 2500 car now. and wow 500 bucks cars now. honestly cars that have been on fire are in better condition
@2:30 when you showed the "RD" from the "ACCORD" name on the back of the car, first thing I said change it to HONDA "TURD" 🤣😂😅😆😄😃😀🙃
Save it bud 😁🤙
Still better than walking. It's a humble car, though people can get a lot of use from it. Few minor fixes and it will be okay.
I would not give more then 50 dollars for that.
Today on cars you want to see cut and buffed
A friend of mine has a 01 Civic EM2, 148k miles and a recent transmission rebuild 🥴
I LOVE that generation of civic.
Since I predominantly hate Japanese cars and have never seen a Honda I would consider driving around the block let alone across town. I dont know if its worth saving, but i know its worth more in parts than it is whole
Mate! what were you thinking haha did you stop off at a bar on the way to buy that thing 🤷♂
Good cars ,,nice model
nice car man
change all engine belts, coolant, oil, filters , transmission oil and this honda is good to go
I like these, just like the civics, I remember that one accord wagon, that David head that y’all brought home with a blown head gasket that y’all had painted red!
That would bring 1500 2k here in ny just how clean it is
This engine is easy $900 or less or more lot of Jseries fans want to buy engines one is their blew up 2nd they are first timers.
I mentioned in the last one my dad's cr-v was 54k miles rebuilt title when he got it for a daily driver it now has 127 or 129k miles i don't remember which it's a 2006 ex is the base model except the awd, and the am fm cd player cassette tape player stereo is apparently a option.. and before we even got it after it was put back together after the light parking lot damage it had to have the transmission replaced at 54k miles?? and I know about the stereo code on my dad's honda crv is in the glovebox and on the top of the stereo
Is that a old cavalier hiding in the bushes I see lol
Save :)
My Father always said a car is worth what you want
Throw a cheap paint job on it and fix the stuff on it and u got yourself a cheap car
Hey Jay I was wondering a long time ago you made a video about replacing a crank posting sensor on a dodge dakota. What kind of sensor do you recommend the ones I always find are too short for my harness
Not only price, I'd say people, like myself, don't want a CVT or all the new "Technology" that can break. Just plain basic cars are a thing of the past, sadly.
it has so many moderate issues its not worth fixing I hate to say it. Cold AC and run and drive sell it for 2-2500 and be done imho
Fix the Honda up Jay
The Accord 4 cylinder has a timing chain - no belt.
That’s the type of vehicle that you drive around the hood when you don’t have much money because gas prices are ridiculous price for that vehicle $3000
Oil the rest of the paint for a quick sale! 🙂
Hay Jay! Its a decent car ^O^ Coming from Minnesota i would rather deal with flaking clear coat and a bit of dirt and dents then RUST!!! XD As long as it runs and drives i would drive the guts out of it :P I think it was a good buy for $1000.00 :3
Save it!!!!!
