I have a friend who keeps buying those damn Souls, she drives them until they start giving trouble and then she just trades them in for a new one. I think she's on like.. her fourth now? She must *REALLY* love them xD
I know so little about Kias, but with them going for $600 at auction I might have to look. Although I think I’m not missing anything. 4.0s run forever and that’s a downside. Finding a used motor is impossible because of them all having 200k+ miles on them. Hope all goes well with repairs and sales.
I've had my 2014 Kia Soul since it was new. So far 136,000 miles no issues. Only money I've had to put into it has been regular maintenance. Only thing it needs is a ABS sensor thats the only part that has failed. The moment it ever gives trouble I'll get rid of it. But its been a great car. I'd buy defiantly buy another.
I bought a brand new Elantra in 2010 with this same exact engine - it was a great car aside from it constantly eating transmissions! I sold the car at 97,000 miles because it was about to run out of warranty. This is the Beta II engine, which really is quite bulletproof, but low on power. These engines have variable timing on the intake cam only.
I normally don’t run into transmissions troubles with the kias. It’s always motors. And the sportage we have also needs an engine.. smh.. same motor too, just the first design I guess? But it spun a bearing at 140k
Overall that little Soul is in good shape, that 2.0 Beta engine is worth a head job( they were good engines), make sure you replace the thermostat and make sure the top tank on the radiator didn't split.
Sweet video as always Jay. Keep up the great content you really put some soul back into that red soul LOL. I really don't mind the Soul but haven't owned one actually. Nice looking Jeep and I may remember that video actually. Nice work👍.
"Put some soul back in it" 😂😂 Good one. My ex-sister in law had a Kia Sedona minivan and it was a POS. Not really a big fan of Kias, but if that's what you have, YOU DO YOU. 👍 Good work, Jay! Thanks for sharing!
I don’t like them either, they always need so much work to make them nice again after 100k. Hondas and Toyotas interior is so much nicer too in the long run. But, they do sell easy!
She was probably fat and overweight I felt sorry for her kia I bought a 2006 sonata 68,000 Milew on 11/16/2022 I already put over 20,000 miles on it I did did maintenance wise have my oil change When I bought the car had mismatch doorhandles exterior The 2 front one were broke the clip that connect to the door it self was broken but it still worked Need a ac compressor replaced that One of the rotor warped Replace the rotor, pads, brake caliper over 15k miles no issues on that 18 vehicle
Well they added an extra quart of diesel so it's way over filled. The pressure sensor is probably triggered by either under OR over pressure, this one will be running over pressure at that point. Definitely could still have low pressure/worn bearings from a bunch of known issues w/ that engine family though.
I did the valve covers on my 02 ford explorer 4.0 and I found that the back chain had missing the plastic chain gids ,but it was still tight and was not making any noise, so I am going to start saving for another vehicle.
i bought one awhile back for long trips and its been great. put almost a hundred thousand on it and its still going strong. I don't really care if it blows up because they are so cheap. oh well.
I have 330k on my 97 XJ, owned it since new. Have definitely gotten my money's worth out of Chrysler with it. Sad to see someone neglect theirs like that. These things will run forever if you take care of it.
I love the 4.0 like you said absolutely bulletproof. But they get beaten so hard, I see them fail but it’s due to lack of servicing. Great mountain rigs though!
The older Kia and Hyundai engines were better. No drive by wire and no fire prone rod throwing gdi engines.transmissions could be a problem . That looks like a older Elantra engine, probably the same, nice find!
I had only had 2 headgasket fail on me so far, the worst was my 94 t-bird which I ended up putting new gasket in it and it’s held up so far and the other being my 86 Nissan pos truck that my brother ran hot, I ended up putting that stop leak down it which lasted a good 3 days and when I drove it to work the day that let go, I ended up running hot due to a heater hose popping off i ended up tearing the motors down to find the block is cracked. Moral of the story is it a lot better to a motor swap then a headgasket repair
I guess I think differently than some folks. I would never put goopy goop in the cooling system on top of all the new parts. I'd keep trying to figure out the problem. Goopy goop goes in old rads and wobbly pumps LOL.
Probably put the goop in trying to avoid/push repairs down the road then it got so bad it couldnt be ignored anymore. But the goop is already in there.
@@matthewbowen5841 I thought of that. I'm so compulsive I'd still flush the bejesus out of it with the old parts. Just me I guess. Those goopy bonding agents don't just stick to tiny cracks and leaks in my experience. TBH I've given up on those though and just bite the bullet any more.
I really like the looks of some of the Kias but Man they need to get their head out of a certain orifice and start building some better Engines 😂 Thanks Jay for another great Video 👍
Same! My only exception is the Kia stinger. I would have one of those no questions asked. As far as the rest of their lineup? No thank you. as a kia soul owner, I can genuinely say these cars are not worth your time fixing to resell. They are very easy to work on, however, they don't really retain any value. Like my 2013 with 125k is only worth 4 grand average. Good car though if u want something easy to fix though this is a good car for that.
Hi Jay love your videos and to see your handsome face mate your wife is a lucky lady . I am also impressed that you never use swear words which means your parents are good people .Usually if the paintwork is in good condition it means that it had a good owner that cared enough to put a coat of polish on it maybe twelve monthly. Even if it has been well serviced it does not allow for the brand as they are only built to last a certain amount of time because they want you to buy a new one. From Melbourne Australia🦘
The 4.0 is directly related! Coming from the same AMC family but with a smaller 242 CI block. AMC put it together with parts from previous inline 6 they had built and put it in the cherokees in 87 as a “Renix” 4.0 this worked ok. But it wasn’t as loved as the early 90s revised motors. And then another updated version in the later 90s. They dropped the distributor and went to coil on plug ignition around 2001 and kept that going for a few more years until finally retiring the engine altogether (stupidest thing they could have done) but it was time for a redesign and Mercedes Chrysler introduced the 3.7 as the replacement. That went on for over half a decade before being phased out for the pentastar 3.6 which is still used today.
Wow! They did timing belt on this Killed In Action Soul and the died out afterward. Oh Well, at least these You Tube mechanics got another one to fix and flip, 'eh?
He'll probably get $6,000 out of it, give or take some. So a different of about $3,300, + time. So profit margin is gonna be pretty slim, I'd think. Unless it's more for the video and views and monetization - if his channel is monetized.
How'd the 2014 turn out? Those Theta 2 GDIs are a rats nest of problems... drain back out of the oil filter, gunked up intakes, gunked up rings, scoring, fires, you name it. The older tbelt port injected engines are much, much better for longevity. Congrats on the 2011 flip, hopefully it makes someone a nice little runabout. I would just be careful buying anything 2.0 or 2.4 GDI Hyundai or Kia made after 2010, thats when the failure prone engines hit. Engines are unobtainium because they all fail and HK have been battling with recalls n service campagns for years. But like BMW 2.0 turbos, there are millions of cars w/ failed engines and nowhere near enough engines to go around which is why they are worthless.
My current 2013 soul+ has 200k on it and still drives great. I bought it new with 180 miles. I've done oil changes, brakes, bushings, starter, blower motor, timing chain, and that's about it. The starter was replaced under warranty. I put 165k on it by 2019, but I don't drive as much as I used to since I became disabled. It's got a lifter tap that it's had forever that magically goes away on its own, and it probably needs struts, but I just don't drive enough anymore to justify the expense. Edit - The lifter was operator error in 2019. I was in the hospital and rehab for a couple months so a friend borrowed it. The pcv clogged and it burned a bunch of oil quickly. She drove it with very little oil for a while and it's had a noisy lifter on the passenger side since then.
I never realy understand what people see in those things. I just find them ugly like I do most modern cars. But people like them obviously as you make money on them
Wife and I just got an '11 Optima EX we paid 6K for. The engine was replaced with that big ass recall Kia had... Hope it last awhile. Nice car otherwise.
