With the price of cars these days, and you can do all the work yourself, this car is worth saving. If you were coming further south in Florida, I would buy you a beer.
My mom had an 03’ century, it was a great reliable car, not once did it leave us stranded. unfortunately it sat in the grass for a year or two because we were so poor we couldn’t afford to register it and the frame rotted. But it still ran and drove onto a trailer before going to the junkyard. I’d say this one is worth saving just based on the immaculate undercarriage. anywho, have fun in Florida Jay!~
Those Centurys had the GM 3.4 V6. That engine was noted for having intake gasket leaks. The power steering hose leak is also another common GM problem. As for the good, grill, and fenders someone could find some good ones in a wrecking yard. Transmissions were also a problem on those too.
Jay, listen up. You need to get into the Chevy Spark business. I bought a 2013 with 128,00 miles on it to flip. It's not going anywhere. I have fallen in love with it. It's an awesome car. Looking to buy more. You can find them pretty cheap.
That bad boy needs a lot! I just sent my 2000 VW Passat, that my son wrecked, to the junkyard. Kinda broke my heart as I owned it for 14 years. Surprisingly, the best car I ever owned. I couldn’t bear to watch him hook it the the truck …with a wrecked front end and no doors on the driver’s side that we harvested for the replacement ‘03 Passat I bought to replace it. Just a sad day. But, hey! I sold it scrap for more than I bought it for (with a broken timing belt) originally. So that’s pretty good. And it kept my boy and his friend from safe in the wreck! It was the car that kept on giving.
Definitely a great project car. No, please don't scrap it! It's worth it for the parts and the cold A/C. Anyway, have a safe and enjoyable trip to Florida, Jay!
That right there is a fantastic _Detroit Special._ Most of them have rusted into oblivion now, but there's still some here in Michigan. Shoot, somebody who's either desperate or doesn't care would buy that up here in a heartbeat!
Yeah I still see a Century/Regal on the road here and there in the Detroit area - NONE of these have rocker panels anymore up here and I'm sure the subframes are dangerously rotted on most of them too lol. This one even beat up like it is seems like it deserves to live just for being rust-free.
New Rockers are so common on these. I sanded the underbody on mine and added Eastwood rust Encapsulate on mine and used fluid film oil spray in all the crannies. They are worth keeping on road.
Buick Century BTS. Flog it until it's d-e-a-d dead. It's due for a transmission failure at some point. Just have your dad or Cody on speed dial to come pick you up when it dies.
I'm the admin on CGFWDS... those people really went ham on you over this turd lol. I was in the same mindset as you, it's just so much to fix on a car thats not particularly special. Kudos to you for making the effort!
I would part it out. I am no fan of ANY GM cars but that bloodline has hung on longer than I expected. Imagine if it had my favorite front wheel drive GM engine...the QUAD 4! 3800 engines are pretty good, I must admit. Hell, who knows, in the rust belt that may be a cream puff. Drivetrain good. AC works. Trunk has no holes. I hate rabbit holes....
I have a customer with a 99 Chevy Lumina with only around 100,000 miles on it, but the car is hopelessly rotted out. Nice interior, runs well but there's hardly any rockers left on it. All the fuel lines and tank are one pothole away from major leaks, but for whatever reason, he still chooses to fix this old bucket 😂😂😂
I had a 2000 that was IDENTICAL to that, got it with exactly 200k on it and In exactly the same shape, except it came from Wisconsin and had massive amounts of cancer. I paid 1000 for it and put 53k miles on it with no issues except a couple patches of brake and fuel lines. . Even had the same front end damage just on opposite side. If you wanna get rid of it I’d make you a great deal on it (and not hassle your dealership)
@@Lunar_Capital Idk there's still something to be said about one of these old W-body cars when it's rust-free... Even though these have virtually no value unless they have virtually no miles on them it still seems like blasphemy to kill a clean one like this that still actually runs and runs well.
@@Stressless2023 Rust free or not doesn’t determine how many hidden gremlins this thing has. It’s shot. My monte carlo was the same way. Beautiful engine but transmission was going and the break line exploded on me trying to back out of my drive way. Not to mention the interior was busted up from the previous owner and the body as well. It was a true lemon but man i really do miss that baby.
@@Lunar_Capital When you live in the rust belt state you'd be surprised at how important AND desirable a rust-free old car is - Brake lines like your car needed is typically not a factor on non-rotted vehicles like this one, that's something we deal with up here on rust buckets, along with rotted subframes which DOES make a car junk - The body being beat up would be a small price to pay for having a CLEAN cheap hooptie that runs well.
@@Stressless2023 I actually do live up in the rust belt, up in MA to be exact and yes my monte suffered from not only the dents and pathetic blue spray bombs to cover up some odd damage in one side. If you really would want a clunker such as this one just because of the rust free feature the by all means go for it. I just would stay away from this car for being a daily rotted or not because of the laundry list of problems (and probably more to come). At least the great thing about a rust free car you don’t need to wrestle with rust fused nuts and bolts.
I have a '99 GS I bought straight from GM (I worked on a research project with them at SMCO), 24 years later. It was a PGA promo car, also used at SeaFair in Seattle. Not what you could buy from Buick, but it's a car they wanted to show. Has a ducktail spoiler, LSD, intercooler, dual mufflers & tips and some other things. Everything works, reliable, low-stress
My daily driver since 2016 was identical to this car. Not a Toyota but I managed to put 101,000 on top of 111,000. Now nearly in the same condition I plan to junk too.
You have to think like us really broke people!!!! @3:41 when you say sell it as a cash special... honestly brotha there are people like me that just need a vehicle to get around in until tax time and if I seen that car on a lot as is for 6 or 700 bucks It would be gone in a few days. Most of us that live paycheck to paycheck can find a way to get 600 bucks together, either borrowing the money or even pawning some stuff to get up to 600 back is easier than trying to someone to finance us for a couple Grand even. I hate to say it but Those guys are right. Just put a set of good used tires on it. Just make sure the person knows it's a as is sale no returns no way to sue you... sh!t I would buy something like that for my kids as a first vehicle if they F it up anymore than it is what's it gonna hurt?
Unfortunately jay, its not worth anything. However, those were really good cars. I drove an 03 for years, it had 278k miles on it, i gave it to my brother and he drove it awhile until the dash started blacking out and he junked it.
Great find Jay not bad! I think that Buick could be saved mostly by fixing the exterior stuff. Interior looks pretty sweet! Maybe find front end parts and fix it? Don't scrap it though! Great video as always!
I currently drive a 1999 Buick regal with the 3800 V6 it’s very similar looking to this car and I’m telling you these cars are comfortable and they will last if taken care of 😊
These cars are underrated. My uncle has a 2004 century with 257,000 & a 1998 Park Avenue with 207,000 & they both run fantastic, but the rust is getting to them both.
But does it still have the ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL? If you do decide to sell it makes sure it has the 15 minute warranty- just enough time to get it off the lot.
My parents had a 2001 and I think it had about the same amount of issues and then some, we finally parted with it in 2020 after 16 years of service and a slipping transmission
Gotta ask - did this come with a full ashtray? I swear I’ve NEVER seen a GM product that wasn’t owned by either Joe Camel or the Marlborough man, ESPECIALLY older Buicks.
😂😂😂 I gotta agree - I flip cars and I'd say about 80% of the GM vehicles I buy were smoker cars - But I'd say 100% of the Chrysler/Dodge cars I buy are lol especially Chargers and 300's.
I picked one up North with 35k. It neeeded new fenders and rocker panels. I changed brake lines and fuel lines, rear brakes and full tune up. I brought her to Maaco and got a paint job with clear coat. Altogether i refurbished for 3k doing everything but the paint job. Total cost 7000.00. You cant buy a half a shit car up here for 7k right now. She pays me to drive it now and the bank can keep its 10%. 😊
I'd pay $500 for it, it's not that bad. Would make a good grocery getter or parts getter. Im sure somebody else would too. 👍👍 You never really truly appreciate power steering unti you dont have it. Like a lot of other things in this world.
With cars like that, you either have to raid the junk yard for a new front clip and work out all the bigger repair issues and drive the thing out, fix it and give it to someone you know who just needs a basic car, or junk it or sell it as a parts car without lifting a finger or spending a dime on it. No fix and flip on a junker that old and rough. You’ll donate all your repair labor and at least 3/4 of the money you’ll spend on parts trying to flip it.

These Century's are getting very old already, so they should be scrapped for good. I hope Jay will have a good time in Florida and not worry about this older vehicle from General Motors. If anybody has a Buick of this age and probably other gm cars, it's worth it and a good idea to get krown rust proofing/fluid film on it!
Love this generation Buick century 1997-2005
One of my friends had one of these! She had to replace the intake manifold, these were notorious of over heating problems.

@SeanPennII it's getting spruced up with a new paint job- Stokes Customs has it right now. Glad you like it, too
Those old Buicks are great shit boxes. Cheap to buy and cheap to keep running. I had a few of them over the years.
I scraped my grandmother 2001 in 2012 when a control arm broke and pulled out the axle shaft from rust.
It’s ready to be on display at the New York auto show!
I had 2 , a 98 and 2001. Miss them.
I think the trac light is on because of the ABS Light, yeah it's rough but would make a good project car.
Yup, and I’d bet the ABS light is on because someone pulled the fuse rather than replace the ABS sensors.

No rust is a big selling point.
@ o hell yeah! It can still be used as a beater for years to come bc of that
Did you make any videos or finish that nasty honda accord
You get that buick sorted out you can get 4-5k for it.
Do you still have the 2006 ss impala
i do agree with you but that car would be good for me because being a newspaper delievery driver im putting more miles and wear a tear on my good car and i need an old car thats a piece of crap to use because it would save me good car
Im in gmfwds. Id fix that up and drive it. Sell it to me for scrap price!
With a bit of work would make a great 1st car for someone
You ask why you bought it?
Cause it's totally effin awesome would be my guess.
Feed the buick 👍
👍✌️
Private party sell at $1500 but there is no room to make money so best thing to do is fix it up, donate it, and get a tax write off. As is
They are damn good cars though but all the god maybe had left this one behind? Possibly? There usually get well loved
Why wouldn’t you buy it

Im gonna go out on a shaky tree branch here and say the type 10 hatch is better huh
Almost better than Chrysler products they don't stand the test of time
