I saw N1 at MSG. 5th row, center. I was getting some amp tone as well as FOH mix. I thought DG sounded amazing. It was a pretty naked tone. There wasn’t much to hide behind in other words. Clear and cutting. The modulation was so chewy and wet but not muddy or in the way. He must be splitting a signal and there was always a dry signal coming thru. I dunno… this show blew my mind. I was in rapture. The Luck and Strange tunes are great. The interplay with his daughter was really heart warming to see. Their voices work really well together. The band was incredible. That was my first and maybe last opportunity to see him live and I am so glad I did. 🤘😎🤘
Wow, a fantastic, considered reflection on this album Bjorn. This album is a daily listener for me which at first was to be honest a struggle to get my head around because it is so different to David’s usual musical journey. For me the hook track that has driven my continued listening to the album is ‘Scattered’, it’s an epic tune. I lost my dearest friend of over 40 years to cancer on the 19th November and we held his funeral on 17th December, Scattered was used for a video backing track on a series of pictures of my friend over the years. The mood in the song transitions through so many emotions, it fitted like a glove. Your tones at the end of your video here really hits so many spots, and your balanced playing matches perfectly, kudos to you and thank you 🙌🏼
I saw David's first concert in LA. The brand-new Intuit Dome acoustics were the best I've heard in a large auditorium. I sat 5th row back. I noticed he had to physically walk back himself and just his amp and added a bit more high-end. Must have had to adjust to the space. His tone was clean and absent were the strong echoes that I've heard on previous albums. His voice was amazing and his guitar playing was masterful. Loved that concert so much, that I immediately booked a trip to see his last concert an Madison Square Gardens. Completely different acoustics. Fantastic concert as well. History unfolding. I ordered a Tube Driver right from the builder himself. We met at a Starbucks where he shared all kinds of cool stories about all the guitarists that use is pedal. Great guy, glad I snapped a photo while I was there. GAve him about 5 cases of beer as a thank you! ;). I built most of my Pedalboard from Gilmourish reviews. what a great video, explaining mixing, mics and reverbs and everything. thank you! I did realize the delay was low on album, but I definitely realize now that the live tones were very dry too when you mentioned it. about rotating speaker, sorrow intro had a dominating rotary effect. I was at the very front row and speakers were literally in front of me. it was very much "in your face" great jam too, ow yeah!
Unfortunately didn't show anywhere near me but was able to see the 2016 tour. Was an amazing night and an absolute dream come true so I'll always have that and cherish it for the rest of my life.
I finally got to see DG this tour (at the Royal Albert Hall). I didn't analyze what was going on; I was totally enthralled from first notes to last :-)
To be honest the best guitar tone ive ever heard was on your solo from "Where are you now". I cry everytime I hear IT and if youve ever had to say how does a soul sound like - IT would be it. ❤❤❤
I've been to Rome on 1. October and it was truly magical. My setup is fairly simple - Fender Strat with CS Fat 50s' -> CTC Phi v2 compressor in FET mode -> Bluesbreaker (for clean boost) -> TS9 (for OD tones) -> Ram's Head -> ctc TI:ME delay -> Marshall DSL40CR. I'm waiting for Christmas to buy myself a nice reverb
I thought his tones on this tour were superior to 2016. Particularly on Sorrow, which didn’t sound too far off from his 1994 tone. Just brighter and less modulated. And Scattered, amazing work.
As usual, amazing video Bjorn ! Always enjoy your tone guidance my friend! I was at the Luck And Strange show in NYC in November and it was the first time i was seeing David live. I will never forget that amazing performance 🎵👌 Again thanks for keeping up your website updated, i’m always looking on it to improve my tones as a bedroom guitarist 👍!!
Lovely playing at the end Bjorn! Sounded inspired by A Single Spark and Scattered, which are coincidentally my 2 favourite tracks on the album. Watching the live footage as the tour progressed I was struck by your comment on an earlier video about how he improves as the tour goes on. For me that was undeniably the case, with his voice also. By MSG he was on fire. I love his tones on the album, even if I miss his adventurism with effects. No one sounds or plays like him. I feel like I’m not hearing enough feedback from people on how Scattered is one of the best things he’s done in a long time, and one of his best solos. It just keeps growing on me. Keep up the great work, I took away some great tips from this vid for my own home recordings. All the best mate!
Thanks for your kind words! Yes, he's always needed a few shows to really get in the spot. Scattered is a beautifully crafted song. Not least the string arrangements and production. Reminds me of Near the End.
Hi Bjorn, thanks for the analysis ! About rotary, I think it's worth mentioning that Line 6 added a RA200 model for Helix floor/stomp/native a year ago, quite a lot of people have them
Nice Playing! I enjoyed your composition. Yeah, my stand out track on the LP and in concert was "Scattered" I assume that was yours too based on the backing track you composed.
Great job! I did not get to see the tour, but have watched as you have. I still love the album and probably still listen about once a week. It's not a better or worse for me, but something about it really stands apart for me. I rely on a el34 combo reading clean but compressing a bit at the pre. I lean on an AnalogMan BD2 for the clean/boost & the BD2 side of the Angry Driver for the overdrive. I can, of course, get a great lead tone by adding the Angry Charlie side, but I prefer using a Vertex Ultra Phonix or Steel String singer after those BD2's for the mid push. I also have the EHX Ram's Head - and I love it! My rotary these days is the Keeley I Get Around. I had the PULSE for a long time and wanted a change (it's great for sure!!). For others: don't forget the Mini Vent that's based on the Yamaha (I think - or the Fender).
Thank you so much bjorn for this video very informative.....could you one day please do the video of the pastfx td-y. I know you have done one already but what will be interesting is how you use it....because there is so many options how to use it......thanks a lot
Great video! I had a few questions about the SKnote plugin. Are you using the plugin as a bus effect and blending with your recorded dry signal in Logic or going straight into the plugin direct? I wasnt sure on the best way to use it in a DAW.
Thanks for your site. I play in a pink floyd tribute and used a lot your infos to make yp the tones in my pedalboard. Really a great job. How did you get all the settings ?
Great job, thank you! I think I prefered his tones on this tour to the last one. I thought this time his playing was a bit weaker technically (as well as singing) but surprisingly better creatively than 2015-16, when he improvised, especially on Marooned. Maybe that's the impact of the new band that pushed him out of his comfort zone. I still listen to the album, and the songs that have passed the test of (a short) time are now Scattered - the contrast between the powerful solo and fragile last verse strikes me; Single Spark, Black Cat, Vita Brevis. But there is at least a one bit that I like in every song. Check out our tour vlog from Rome and London (eng sub): ruclips.net/video/QflXgY5GB58/видео.html&pp=ygUXc3BvZGVrIHRhamVtbmljIHBvZGNhc3Q%3D
Hi Bjorn, amazing playing as always. I do have a question do you think a H&k tube meister 36 could work well with a tube driver? I’m currently deciding between the tdy and a butler.
Thanks! Yes, I had a TB18 in my studio for years and it sounded great with the Tube Driver. Mind though, that the clean channel is VERY clean so I always used the dirt channel and just set it as clean as possible.
Dev Tech Gilmour Muff - volume 2:00, tone 11:00, gain 2:00 Boss RT20 - mode 1, effect + direct 10:00, balance 3:00, overdrive 9:00, slow Delay and reverb added in post production
They might have been. I suppose it also comes down to where you stand or sit in the venue. My assumptions are based on listeing to RUclips and talking to others that's been to the shows. Cheers!
@@gilmourishofficial There is near universal agreement that Pompeii was by far the brightest and many find it unlistenable. IMHO it is also clearly audible in the comparison of footage from this and last tour. But anyways, there is not really a point in arguing.
I am going to add this I am shopping for a rotary simulator. Micro Vent is $400! That’s not going to happen. Has anyone tried the EHX Lester-G or recommend one?

Thanks for sharing! Yes, he's splitting the signal from the pedals/effects rack into a mono for each of the Hiwatt+Alessandro and Yamaha amps.
I got to see him for the first time in NYC on this tour. It was everything I had hoped for and more!
Yes, I've seen the tour and listened to the record. I would agree with you. Less delay and a brighter tone. Nice review. Thanks!
Cheers!
I saw David at Hollywood Bowl, CA on October 29th. It was amazing.. For tone, i'm not doing anything more than an Oceans 11 for reverb. Thanks, Bjørn.
Well done as always. And a big thank you for the backing track. I'll definitely be using it.
Cheers!

Thanks! On a bus. Sounds distorted on the channel. I usually have an EQ on the bus channel before the plugin cutting lows and some harsh upper mids.

How did you get all the settings ?
Cheeers! For my track I set up the pedals to match the amo and my guitar.
@@gilmourishofficial My question was : how did u get all Gilmour's setting on your site ? (on every album)... it's impressive !
Well, that first Luck and Strange jam solo would have fit very nicely onto Roger Waters' Every Strangers Eyes...
Thanks! One of Roger’s finest 👍

Hi Bjorn, what are your pedal settings during the Scattered solo?
Dev Tech Gilmour Muff - volume 2:00, tone 11:00, gain 2:00
Boss RT20 - mode 1, effect + direct 10:00, balance 3:00, overdrive 9:00, slow

His tones were, in fact, far *less* trebly than on the last tour.
