Hi Bjorn, thank you for putting so much work into producing these videos and your website. Learning how to play David Gilmour’s music is a lot of fun and you are a big help in figuring out how to sound right. Every time I get stuck I remember that I can probably find the right answer on Gilmourish. Thanks again!
Really well done, Bjorn! As always, respectful of the tone, without conditioning from the manufacturers and always with a very “personal” touch! You’re my guide from ages, this is why I trust you with no doubt! ❤
That was epic. Love the Shine On intro and was giving heavy Wembley vibes, which is my favorite concert and tone, I would say. However, on the last jam when adding the Muff, when you did that classic Gilmour A to B bend on 2 on the G string, I would say that was ironically one of your best moments on your channel in terms of tone, even if when using the Laney. So that combo was insane and the pedal sounds great. I would say this video is therefore Hiwatt approved.
This is the best video out that showcases the pedal's Gilmour tones. Everything you played was spot on and love the fact that you used a neutral amp as the platform. Well done!
I love all your demos , every single one of them , i have a lot of the vintage gear including the echorec but the best sound of all your demos is your own intro sound , this is a killer tone , well done
I bought one today, super happy with it. I also got the boonar delay. I have the JHS Bender for the fuzz, Strymon BlueSky for reverb, HiPower for amp base / lower drive, Boonar for the Binson!
Always amazing videos. I adapt the good performance and sound of the effect pedals to my boss Gt1. That's all I can do for now. 😊 Congratulations...👏👏👏🎶
I really enjoyed this Bjorn, the playing as ever was spot on and the tone just amazing. Were you using the loop functionality of the pedal, or did you put the Flanger, Phaser and delay after the Hi Power?
Hi Bjorn, Just got a couple of these for me n shuanie. great pedal. as you know we have loads of vintage Hiwatts, 50's, 100's, 200's, heads, combos, cabs etc between us and we found this pedal to be a really good representation. the only thing that could be an improvement as you say is having 2 gain knobs, one for the brill and one for the normal channels for the link setting to work properly, as this IS part of Hiwatt sound. The Hiwatt side of the pedal I found to be too bright on anything other than the normal setting. The link setting would be so much more usable if there were seperate gain knobs. But other than that a really nice pedal, great review as usual!
Absolutely! It really captures the sound and feel. The linked channel worked nicely on the Lionheart that I used for this clip as it is a fairly dark amp but yes it’s bright and separate volume controls would definitely add to the experience. I also found that the bass control really didn’t do much unless it’s cranked all the way. It would be cool too to have a switch for the placement of the Power Boost when you add pedals in the send/return.
This company's so good! :O I hope the next release will be a Mesa/Boogie Mark style amp in a pedal plus a Boss HM-2/Muff to be able to recreate Gilmour's Live In Venice/DSOT tones. My favourite Gilmour tone EVER!! I actually hope Gilmour used a Boogie as an "expensive overdrive" again for his new solo album, but I doubt it. I really miss that particular Boogie flavour in his tone nowadays. I'm also in love with his Division Bell tour sound, but his live sound on the AMLOR tour's always gonna be my absolute favourite! I've never ever heard a Mesa/Boogie in a pedal that sounded like the actual amp (even not the pedals Mesa put out themselves), but since CTC did such an amazing job on this Hi-Power pedal, I think they can actually pull it off and I hope they will, somewhere in the future. Great video, Bjorn! :)
Thanks for the vid. I will be ordering this. Should I mention it that I saw it on your link? Would def like to know what settings on this pedal for the Tommy Bolin sound??
You may but I don’t think that counts for a discount 😅 It does a wide range of tones ant just Gilmour. The Who and Towaend obviously but you can also take into plexi sounds and more.
Hey Bjorn. As always great review and stellar tones. I'm curious to get your thoughts on the Alembic preamp and where that fits (or doesn't) in David's tonal spectrum. It doesn't seem to get an attention, but I'm also noticing there are clones begin made (FB-2 preamp our of Prace, Czechia) Any thoughts??
Thank you! The Alembic is a preamp based around a Fender Dual Showman, which has a lot of headroom and a fairly scooped frequency. David mainly use it with a Rotary speaker so although it's an important pre-amp and EQ for the rotary I wouldn't say that it's a must for his overall tones.
I have an "entry-level" HiWatt, T20/10 head, and while iit may not be a handwired P2P Reeves-build, it is voiced really well and sounds & feels pretty darn close to a vintage/custom series HiWatt, and it reacts to pedals like a HiWatt should. I also use a Devtech Power Driver 18v (Coloursound Power Booster type) and what I'm hearing in this video sounds a lot like my Power Driver into my HiWatt T20/10 - and the Rat & Muff tones were really authentic when played through the Hi Power pedal into the Lionheart. Really nice work, Björn!!
Hello Bjorn, Where would you put this pedal in your signal chain? I also have a Surface fuzz and Big Muff clone. Would it go before or after other dirt and boost pedals? Also, thank you for the work you put in to help everyone achieve their dream tones!
Thank you! I would place this after the gain effects - your fuzz and muff - using it as an EQ for those pedals. See the video and my settings when I'm using it with the Motherload. That should give you a start.
Really curious how this compares to the Tech 21 English Muffy. Either way I'm glad there are finally HiWatt emulators out there so one doesn't have to spend a fortune.
Thanks! I haven't tried that but I think you'd have an impedance issue with the sound interface. This is basically an overdrive pedal voiced like a Hiwatt so for it to be a recording interface, there should be a balanced XLR out.
@@gilmourishofficial Thanks Bjorn for your answer! I checked the manual and to my surprise there's some info about it, so if anyone is interested: "AMP section does not feature a speaker simulation circuit. It is intended to use as a preamp or overdrive pedal with another amp/speaker cabinet. We recommend using a separate speaker simulation device when going direct."
Fantastic playing as always Bjorn!! Wonderful sounding pedal!! I wonder how this would sound with an IR of a WEM cabinet with Fane speakers, direct to FOH...
This demo is one of your best sounding! I’m guessing when you list “FX” these are presets not pedals? The delay is absolutely perfect and what I’m looking for…how do you achieve it and what pedal comes closest? Thanks!
I haven’t tried it but I would imagine so. Try the clean settings I’ve shown in this video and adjust the EQ controls to match your amp. Set your amp as neutral as possible. If you’re using the HiPower only as a platform you can run pretty much anything in the loop. Perhaps not delays.
Hey Bjorn; greetings! Before I rant on, I’ve just checked out the Fleeting Glimpse EP and I think it’s brilliant. I loved a lot of Airbag and your previous solo stuff too. I find it interesting that while a million bands claim to be inspired by PF, none come anywhere near them sonically ( Steven Wilson touches on it at times, and OK Computer is possibly the closest thing to a “ next generation “ Floyd IMO. Anyways, a question for you mate: I'm chasing an ampless Gilmour(ish) sound in my small apartment. It's very hard to find an amp sim pedal that does the Hiwatt thing. I currently have a UA Dream as my pedal amp but I've realised (also after reading your amp advice) that it's too thin and mid-scooped to be a great platform for that sound. My question is, would I be better off getting a pedal that does a British Plexi-style sim(more like a Hiwatt) or instead buying the Hi Power and running it into my Dream pedal? Love to know your thoughts if you read this! Val, Australia
Thanks for your kind words Val! The Hi Power isn't a preamp. More a conventional overdrive unit made to capture the tone of a Hiwatt. It won't work that well with just a computer. Assuming that's what you're looking for. I haven't tried the Dream but given that it's based on the 65 Fender Reverb, I would imagine that it doesn't quite capture the fullness of a British style amp. There are other options as well, like a multi effect unit - there are several brands and models out there - or a software/plugin for your DAW. I'm using Amplitube and I'm very happy with it although for certain stuff. Line 6 also has a lot of great stuff.
@@gilmourishofficial Thanks for your reply and advice Bjorn! I think I’m going to sell the Dream and go with a multi preamp/power amp/cab sim such as the Two Notes Opus, which includes Hiwatt cabs. Then maybe get a Hi Power further down the line. Keep up the good work! I’ve learned so much from your channel…thank you!
Hi Bjorn, great video, just wondering if I could use this pedal as a replacement for an amp and instead DI out after the pedal would it still sound as good as it running through an amp? especially if its going directly into an interface/mixer?
Incredible tone, but Bjorn/Gilmourish makes everything sound amazing!! Wonder how this compares to A.S. Hiwatt pedal (Arthurguitarsound) , Kemper Hiwatt Profiles. Love your T-Shirt!
Seeing how this video is old, but I follow you and your music that I have purchased on iTunes and social media. I figured I would ask this because you would be the ones to know and hopefully maybe you will answer me. I have been learning David’s technique for over a year now I keep it on clean tone to make sure all my bends are perfect and come out right and are at the right pitch plus, I am starting over with gear due to life adjustments so to say so if you had to choose a big muff to get even if not on here like th New Keeley 4 in 1 Blues Disorder or honestly any of them if you know as they are new or the Hi Power from crazy circuits or The Engine from Drybell…honestly which one would you go with to get most of his tones please! Thank you & even though not new new I love your newest album 🤘🎸🤘bought it on iTunes
Hi. Great demo as usual. Wanted to ask what to do with a delay pedal and the hi power. Would you put the delay in the Hi power's loop or after the Hi power? Thanks.
Thanks! Depends on how you'll be using the pedal. It's basically an overdrive pedal voiced like a Hiwatt. I use it as a platform for my gain pedals and have the modulation and delays after it (no loop).
So does the Laney Lionheart kind of looses it's character, the pedal's preamp section taking the "control" of the overall sound ? Do you think the Lionheart 20w would be better overall than the 5w for bedroom situations, since it has a Master Volume ? Because I 'm looking for an amp also capable of live rigs.. I used to have a Mesa Boogie F30 30 watts, with a very good master volume, that was very nice at bedroom volumes.. I'm not saying whisper loud, more than that. I think you sound very very good in your demos with Laney.. and you are an excellent player, so technique and feel comes to play of course. when mastering volume control. I've tried a few Fender amp from the 68 Custom line, and they all had problems, and didn't sound that good to be honest. So the Lionheart 20w combo is really on my radar..
I've had the Lionheart for many years now and it's a go-to amp for me. Especially for recording. Very versatile, with teh two channels and a powerful EQ section. The HiTone is basically like any other overdrive pedal only this is voiced like a Hiwatt.
@@gilmourishofficial Great, thanks ! I'm a bit on the fence between the Laney and Marshall Mini Silver Jubilee. Have you had a chance to compare both ? They are quite similar in specs (EL tubes, 20w, 12 inch speaker, weight.. ) minus the reverb for the Marshall.. but pedals Can take care of that.. No one talks about the Jubilee for Gilmour sounds, but a lot of great guitarists with very different styles use use it, like Frusciante, or Bonamassa or Slash
@@rodolpheponthus2948I wonder the same as I own a Jcm 2550 ( a jubilee but with black toilet). In any case, I just ordered this pedal to see how it sounds on my clean channel in conjunction with other pedals such a fuzz face, given a fuzz on its own on a clean channel sounds terrible IMO
Bjorn, how would a pedal like this sit in your chain? Is the Hi Power designed to be at the end of your effect chain, after your fuzz, univybe, and Echorec? Where in the effect chain did Gilmour use his Power Boost?
I've had one of these for a while. A good pedal, but I have not compared it to the amps/pedals it emulates. I was using the Power Boost side as a clean boost and the amp side as drive; I'll give your settings a go and see how it sounds. Do you have the gain on the Power Boost maxed? Mine sounds really fuzzy if I do that.
Christos at Crazy Tube Circuits suggested I try placing the Space Charged and Motherload in the Hi Power loop for added gain and sustain on solos. Any thoughts about this? I'm using a Strat into pedals into Laney Lionheart Loudpedal into a Fane A60 speaker. I also wonder if I might run time-based pedals and modulation in the loop of the Lionheart.
That would require using the HiPower as a clean platform I guess. I’m treating it as an overdrive pedal, voiced as a Hiwatt. In the last part of this clip, I’m running the Motherload into the front end of the pedal. A good rule is to run deleays, reverb and modulation into the front if the amp/preamp is clean. Use the loop if the amp/preamp is dirty.
This may be the answer to my pedalboard problems. I like the sounds I can get from the Power Driver but one is not enough and there isn't space for two on my board. But I could remove my Mad Professor Super Black and replace it with this. Running into a Victory V4 Duchess btw. Now to give the piggybank a good shake. 🤣🤣
Hi Bjorn, I can’t seem to get any distortion from the HiPower pedal. Tried all settings I see online but still no distortion. Basically just clean sound. Even tried setting my son on light OD dtill no luck. Hope you could help me. Thank you 🎸
The Hiwatt side is supposed to mimic a real tube amp and the Hiwatt doesn’t have much overdrive. How the pedal behaves depends on your pickups and amp. You should be able to get some dirt but again, it’s more like an EQ and tone shaper. The Power Boost side has plent of dirt so the idea is to combine the two line Gilmour did. But you have to dial up the gain to probably 3 o’clock and beyond like with the original Colorsound pedal.
I haven't tried that but I would imagine it does. The amp section should be set clean as I've shown in the video - you might do some tweaks for your setup - and it should be able to handle most pedals.
Hi. I have a question: if I already have Hiwatt custom amp, do I still need this pedal or better to buy Drybell Engine pedal to get closer to DG tone? Thanks
This is an overdrive/EQ/tone platform mimicing the Hiwatt so it would be redundant if you already have a Hiwatt. Unless, you have different speakers. You can get some of that Hiwatt+Fane character from this pedal. The Engine is a Marshall Super Lead Plexi style pedal so not very typical for Gilmour, although it comes pretty close to a Tube Driver. I would probably go for a Tube Driver or a clone, like the TDY from Past FX.
Bjorn, I would like to ask if you think this pedal would pair well with my 1966 Fender pro reverb? I was thinking just today with this amp that I should maybe just by a rat pedal as my distortion and fuzz...Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.
I'm confused. At 7m 6s the camera pans across your amp and it says "Actual Settings". Does this mean that you plugged your guitar into the Hi Power and then into the amp's INPUT JACK? These preamp pedals are meant to be plugged directly into the PWR AMP IN or Effects Return jacks. Plugging a preamp into another preamp totally defeats the purpose. Did you try bypassing the Laney's preamp section first and just didn't like it?
Hi Björn and thank for all!! I have a cs 2 like first pedal, then overdrive then big muff, the modulation, and a fender hotrod 4 where i could put this pedal in my chain?
Do you consider the Hiwatt side of the Hi Power a always on pedal to run your overdrives and fuzzes into or do you prefer them straight into Laney? I'm trying to decide if I want to sell my Hiwatt T20 and purchase this pedal to use with my Marshall Origin 20c. I would really like to hear everyones thoughts. Thanks
I use it as an always on platform. I haven’t tried it with Marshall but it goes better with say my Laney Lionheart and Fender Amps as they’re further from sounding like a Hiwatt. I would imagine that you would need to use very different settings on the pedal paired with a Marshall to compensate for the huge midrange you get from both.
Do think this pedal would pair well with the Laney Cub 12? Since the cub is voiced similar to a Hiwatt or early Marshall, I wondering if there would be the same midrange issue. I also own a Fender Blues jr III with the Jensen speaker. Maybe this is a better match for this pedal. I really like what I am hearing in the pedal demos and I would like to reduce the number of amps I own. However, selling my Hiwatt T20 is hard decision.
Hi Bjorn, great demo. I found the Motherload very interesting! While I'm not a fan of that Hi Power. I'd prefer having the amp alone. Although again for how things are going, probably something with power amp section and cab emulation would have been more appropriate. But as always, everyone has their needs! Cheers
Thanks! Yes, the Motherload is well worth checking out. The Hi Power will never replace a real Hiwatt or Tube amp but it is a powerful platform if that's the tone you're looking for and don't want to bust the bank. I travel a lot and don't always get to play Hiwatts, which I also prefer with my band, so I can definitely see my self using this as a platform going into the amp, knowing I get some familiar tones. And, I don't like digital processors so there you have it.
@@gilmourishofficial just for the benefit of other readers, all I'm talking about can be done with analog stuff. For example my torpedo captor has a fully analog emulated speaker ouput! But I get your point!

Incredible tone, but Bjorn/Gilmourish makes everything sound amazing!! Wonder how this compares to A.S. Hiwatt pedal (Arthurguitarsound) , Kemper Hiwatt Profiles. Love your T-Shirt!
Thanks!
Because of noise issues in a small condo, I record 100% direct. Do you think this would work well with Kemper? Thanks Bjorn.@@gilmourishofficial
Thanks a lot.@@gilmourishofficial
@@gilmourishofficialyou put the phase90 before or after the Hi Power?
Thank you for the demonstration ;-) Is the P19 Fuzz + this pedal a good choice? (by cutting the "Powersound" section of course)
Yes, try the clean setting I've suggested in this video and it should work nicely as a platform.
Bjorn, how would a pedal like this sit in your chain? Is the Hi Power designed to be at the end of your effect chain, after your fuzz, univybe, and Echorec? Where in the effect chain did Gilmour use his Power Boost?
I would use it as an EQ after the dirt pedals. The Power Booster should be after as well, acting as a tone enhancer or stand alone overdrive.
Which delay pedal where you using here it sounds so good ?
It's a plug-in actually. The Pulsar from Pulsar Audio. I did a review

Been waiting for your views on this one👍👍
Definitely BITCHIN'😉👍👍
😎✌👍❤🖖
Hello Bjorn, did you run that muff/rat pedal into the Hi Power pedal or was it the other way around?
The Motherload is placed infront, with the HiPower set clean acting like an EQ.
Love your demo as always ! What is the rotary pedal your using at the end of the chain during the intro? ❤
Thanks! It's a plugin actually. The R200 from SK Note Audio.
Back off just a hair to avlid the fizzy overtones (which is nature for this vintage style circuit).
@@gilmourishofficial Great - Thank you very much.
Tech 21 should send you an English Muffy.
I have a Keeley mod BD-2 , should I invest in one of these?
Depends on what tones you want. Two very different pedals.
Would you recommend putting this before your other drives or after your drives?
After. As a platform.
Hello everyone, If you haven’t listened to Bjørn’s new EP yet, do yourself a favor as it is excellent!
Does it do Pete Townshend tones also?
Yep! Live at Leeds all the way!
Is that an EJ strat? The binding on neck?
Check out this video on my guitar

I know this isn't your wheelhouse as such, but do you think this could get close to a Live At Leeds tone? I really struggle to get that tone.
Absolutely. I didn’t cover that in this review but it covers any Hiwatt tone.
@@gilmourishofficial That’s brilliant mate. Definitely getting one now-thank you!
Is this designed to be run into an amp (like a DRRI or Marshall) or into a cab sim? Or both? Not sure I understand the intention of the HiWatt side.
It's basically an overdrive pedal voiced like a Hiwatt + a Power Boost so it should be plugged straight into a clean amp.
Would this pair well with the Keeley Dark Side for a lot of Gilmour tones in two boxes?
@ Thank you for the advice and for everything that you do for us! 🙏🏼
Bjorn, I would like to ask if you think this pedal would pair well with my 1966 Fender pro reverb? I was thinking just today with this amp that I should maybe just by a rat pedal as my distortion and fuzz...Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.
I haven't tried that combination but I would assume it does.
How would this go running it straight into an effects return as a preamp?
Not sure. I need to try that!
The HiPower is, as explained in the video, an overdrive with a Hiwatt character. This is not a preamp. More details on the Crazy Tube website.
@@gilmourishofficial OK. That's a very odd choice. If it was a preamp then everyone could enjoy the most realistic tone possible. Thanks!
@@gilmourishofficial Just curious though. Have you tried using it as an actual preamp? Very interested in what the difference would be.
No, I haven't had the time yet but it will be interesting to try.
This or the tech21 english muffy ?
Two very different pedals.
Hi Björn and thank for all!! I have a cs 2 like first pedal, then overdrive then big muff, the modulation, and a fender hotrod 4 where i could put this pedal in my chain?
I would use it as an overdrive or EQ. Try placing it after your Muff and in front of the modulations.
@@gilmourishofficial thank you very much!🙏
Do you think this would work well going into a Fryette power station/50 watt clean power amp into a celestion g65 12" cab?
I don't have any experience with the Fryette, so I'm not really sure. It's a tube amp right? If so, then yes I assume it would go nicely.
Every guitarist most like Ace Frehley 😉
the binson echo unit was a very big part of gilmours overall tone
