After 8 minutes you blew my mind. I mean what?! Drawing lines and changing angles?! The three fingers swipe for options!? So much bonus content! I came to learn gradients and learned 20 other things!
I am in tears. I have been struggling for well over a year to color my artwork the way I would on paper but in procreate and I have ran time and time again into the same issue, it not blending or looking they way I want it to. I have always been into gradient coloring and it was so hard to translate it to digital without Photoshop, until now!!! You have changed the game for me and I needed to say something and thank you for giving this information so freely. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Kurt - this is the most valuable procreate tutorial I’ve seen to date. Thank you so much man. Not only have I subscribed but I am about to drop the link t your channel to a full slack feed. Amazing stuff. Soo stoked to watch more of your content. Gracias Señor.
I have no artistic ability at all. But I love using Procreate to doodle around. I have a lot of fun with it. Thanks for these tips! I never knew about using your other hand to snap lines.
I rarely comment on tutorials, but I feel like I have to in this case. This tutorial was so wonderfully helpful -- you explained things so thoroughly. You have a really lovely way of teaching too, thank you!
That’s great ! Another way is to create a selection and gently paint in with a big soft airbrush building up the gradient with each stroke. Thanks for sharing your very cool ideas 💡!!
Another great video, thanks! I've also seen some people have created gradient brushes, or bought them from somewhere. But the options you've shown work just as well.
That’s awesome! Thank you for the tutorial. I loved it. I kinda was struggling with that. I have some photoshop experience and it’s way easier to do in photoshop, I just didn’t knew how to do it in procreate.
Thanks so much! When 5X update came out, I was sure they would add a basic gradient tool, but still nothing! Subbed! Excited to go through the rest of your content 😄
Hi, thanks for your great video. Do you know why gradients always show up as lines when you print? I wonder if there is a way of creating a background with a gradient that is smooth with no lines. Thanks in advance.
Screens and printers alike are only capable of displaying colors within a certain space, typically unique to each model of display or printer. On a gradient, you get those abrupt lines because the device is incapable of displaying/printing the colors that would have normally transitioned between them.
Great workarounds about a very serious shortcoming. A true gradient tool is sorely missing in Procreate. A real, professional gradient tool will allow the artist to utilize several colors like in Autodesk's Sketchbook version of gradient. I hope Procreate developers really consider incorporating useful gradient tools in their next release. Unfortunately that feature is still missing in 5x. Thanks for the tut!~
Thank you. This has been very helpful for someone like me who is new to procreate. Also I love your drawing of the lightning girl and was that an elf or a goblin?
Hi Kurt, When I'm drawing a squiggly line and hold at the end, the line doesn't automatically become a straight line. Do I need to turn on a feature? Thx
Yes! In your drawing, go to Actions -> Prefs -> Gesture Controls -> and then set Draw and Hold to ON. I had to enable this today and it took me a while to remember how.
Holy Sh*t, I just drew dark Orange on the lower two thirds on my canvas cause I wanted to make a "This Is ..." Playlist for my Spotify and I open this tutorial and he does the same, in the same color tone!!! I'm freaking out a bit here! What are the odds! I mean it's exactly the same tone and placement ...
You’re the man! I’m drawing a Lamborghini and the gradients/reflections gotta look right. Thank u so much. I subscribed too bcuz your art looks awesome and those Spider-Man posters tell me you’re wise beyond your years. 😂
I'm confused on what you did when you used the automatic selection. It looks like it automatically painted out the gradient overlay when you picked the different areas, but I didn't see you do anything that would do anything to remove the gradient from my understanding. Great video btw def keeping an eye on you haha
How come when I try to draw the circle the square legit like has the long slanted grey and white lines. My screen does not stay blank. Idk what I’m doing wrong. I feel like all digital stuff is so frustrating and never simple for me 😭😭😭😭
Thanks for tut. However Procreate force users to Very odd ways for obtaining a simple gradient fill. I cant believe Procreate wont add a gradient bucket. Like Photoshop, infinite painter, sketchbook etc. Thats why i use infinite painter or sketchbook.
This was helpful. But what is amazing is procreate didn't give users a more straightforward way of making gradients. Considering how useful they are and how often they get used it should be a tool by now, it's almost 2021!
which is the spanish equivalent to "motion blur" ? ( a tip for you, tray to show the clicks yo do for the not English speakers can imitate the commands)
Pretty much being able to do gradients would be essential for if you are a graphic designer who mainly specialises in simplistic but well engineered graphics! :)
@@colorwithkurt Yup though of course I’m hoping I can make the gradients as pixel accurate as possible since the precision of the pixel dimensions of objects are extremely important for my applications so I can have perfectly symmetrical and centre aligned elements in the images! Though pretty much to me making them perfectly straight to a certain angle like vertically or horizontally is pretty much the most important thing so it doesn’t appear to be off alignment with the objects that have the gradients! :)

Wow that's great to hear. I'm glad it helped!
This taught me how to create a gradient and like 20 other tricks along the way! Thanks!
Thank you, seems like a pretty essential tool they left out of an otherwise great program.
Autodesk sketchbook has gradient tool too
@@dnhn.design I used sketchbook for like a year and a half when I started out. It was a pain since there was no crop tool, clipping mask etc

I have no words to express what benefit this discovery was! Thank you. I AM VERY SHOCKED AND HAPPY !!!
Wow! I wish you had written the Procreate manual. This was so informative and helpful. Thank you 🙏
This was super helpful! Thanks for making it. Also, that HSH S-type looks killer
Wow, not only you taught the 3 ways of gradient but some other tips in Procreate I didn’t know. Thank you.

THANK YOU! You just alleviated months worth of frustration.
Thanks so much for this! I’ve been wanting to use gradients in my stuff but couldn’t figure out how so your video really helped! Great stuff!

Thank you! In addition to being very useful, this tutorial was so nice to listen to!
Great tips, Thanks man! Although you did go though that last part pretty fast, I'm gonna have to re-watch the end a few more times.

Wow, so happy I found this channel as I was doing my gradians like a pleb 😂 using painbrush. 😆
Thank you for all the tips. 😘

HI Kurt. I have tried over and over to create a neon effect with text and other objects. I can’t find a way to get it right. Any tips please?
This was really helpful! Thank you!
Is there a way to make a gradient with a intentional gradient banding?
Say i want a blue to white but only using 6 colours?
How do you drag with a finger
Thank you. Great video.
Great stuff, thank you!
Brilliant. Thanks you!
I can’t use feather before selecting an area. I’m trying to do the ombré gradient, but I can’t. Any help?
The new version doesn't seem to let you... I hope it's a bug.
Very useful, thank you!
can you make a selection in Procreate without it antiailiasing? or do you still have to do your flatting on photoshop?
@@colorwithkurt thanks, will try make one. Hopefully they add in the feature soon.

You could. Just start on an empty layer.

Sure! This is more for the artist that doesn't need pixel perfect gradients.

Thanks for the video
Your beard has grown longer ,sensei😃
Vary helpful !!!
You rule, Kurt
Using this method works great except: I can’t seem to make them fade to zero, even with feather to max and blur slid all the way... strange
Oh i used the wrong blur. Was using gausian blur. I think thats what it is called.
You are awesome!!
How to you remove the borders?
