I’m so happy to know there’s something I can plant now! I’ve been weeding & cleaning out a spot & now can actually begin m first area of a cottage style area inside my future permaculture yard.
Thank you! This is good to know. My mom lives in the Mojave Desert and I mistakenly planted her wildflower seeds in March. My mom also had issues with the birds eating the seeds she said.
Hi Angela, i watch alot of gardening videos but this was the first one that got right to the point, and told me when to sow! I missed the perfect time in the Fall, but am gonna sow in early March, here in SE NC. I hate wishing the winter away because I hate the heat here in the summer but darn I cannot wait to do my outdoor gardening again!
I live in tombstone and reserved an area of our lawn for wildflowers to help pollinators. This video was very helpful (especially the “rocky” part) I was getting worried I sentenced these little seeds to certain death but you made me feel better 😅 hopefully they start growing soon!
I tried several times to get a wildflower patch started with little success due mostly to weeds. Finally I had some come back under a cedar tree with Vista pruning. This year I made a more concentrated effort there, now I have a decent patch with barely any weeds and there are lots and lots of different flowers :)
I love ur video Angela ♥️👍👍 thank you so much. I had a packet one time I bought from ace hardware and I don’t know when to plant so I asked my grandkids to help me plant it cuz I have a small flowerbed on the south side of my house and this was March, they bloomed like the next month 😊😊😊♥️♥️♥️ I have some came back, thank you again.
we had a new place to park made, had some gravel put on it. Then the wild sunflowers sprouted all over it! some got to 10 feet tall! We decided we didnt need to park there and now the sunflowers come up every year and are just beautiful! how they grow thru the rocks is amazing!
Thanks so much for these tips, they were really helpful! It has been fun to identify wildflowers in a local park and help to spread their seeds to other areas, and it'll be fun to plant a bunch of store-bought native seeds soon, too. I usually have to cover seeds with a bit of dirt or hay; just enough to keep Mourning Doves from eating them.
Some of the flowers that talk about are wildflowers (larkspur for example) - the difference is how they are planted and where they are grown. I don't typically grow wildflowers in my garden beds, I sprinkle wildflower seeds around my yard and garden and they come back each year. Many of the flowers I grow in my garden beds I plant each year - they don't come back on their own. Not sure if that makes sense or not - let me know.
Thank you for you wonderful video! Hello from Montreal hoping i can grow a nice wildflower garden your video with thr different seedlings was really pleasant to watch and encouraging! Smile on my face ☺️😁👌
My wildflower seeds competed with field grasses already in the soil. Now three years on there is a fight going on and the grass is overtaking. My current plan is to catch as many wildflower seeds as I can, mow the area short, cover with black plastic for 6 months, then re-sow.
I posted an update on Instagram, should have done one here as well. The squash and beans did well, but the corn struggled. I only harvested a few small ears.
I don’t live in your area… would the advice to pull back the rocks apply to an already mulched area? Just pull them back, move the dirt around, seed, and push the mulch back over them?
“If the flowers are too close together, go ahead and thin out the seedlings.” What does this mean? Dig them up and replant them more spread out? Also I’m trying to landscape my new home (new homeowner). Is it ok to add wildflower seeds to an area with shrubs and other plants already? I have a tree and lilies planted on the front porch but there are flat spots in that area and I’d like it to look fuller. Is it a bad idea for this because they will crowd the other plants and the water needs will be different? TIA
pull out extra seedlings - leave fewer in the ground so they each have more room to grow. You can sprinkle wildflower seeds anywhere - if they get winter rains they will bloom for a few weeks in the spring but won't provide fullness other times.
I want to grow annual wildflowers in a raised container (which measures about 3 by 2 feet) on my balcony in Zone 5. I was thinking of starting the seeds in egg cartons indoors and then plant those after the frost in Spring. Is this doable? I cannot find any info on it. i just think they would not survive in the metal container bed in the harsh Chicago winter.
Hello my dearest Angela I am following you from Australia Good morning , 8:15 am it's spring I have a question please help me if you have seen this before I have a Lemon tree , this year I lost all the lemons . They were getting rotten on the tree and falling down . Also the citrus trees that I have they are full of true bugs . What is the solution Love and respect to my BEAUTIFUL sister 🥰
You need to contact your local gardening group, so they can help identify the bug. Same goes for the fruit rotting. It could be a fungal issue that is specific to your area, or your state.
Thank you for the information, it was all very helpful! I live in SoCal (zone 10a), we barely get any frost, should I cold stratify my wildflower seeds? Do you know if fall is a good time to plant milkweed? I tried to germinate it in the spring with mixed success but I don't know how cold hardy it is and I gotta have the butterflies, beneficials, and pollinators in my garden! Any help is appreciated, thanks.
This may sound like a strange question, but why are my wildflowers stretching and growing sideways? They seem to not have solid roots, so they’re all growing very tall, diagonally, and then fall over (I live in Phoenix, AZ)
Some of the wildflowers mentioned are not native to USA, but what the hell. They are beautiful and attract pollinators and are eye candy to flower lovers.
I buy most of the seeds at Botanical Interests: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=250954&u=2736599&m=28945&urllink=&afftrack= and also the Native Arizona mixes from local nurseries
I just love your warm, personal introduction when opening your videos.
I'm so glad!
LITERALLY felt the same and clicked subscribe😍💖
@@GrowingInTheGarden when’s the best time to plant seeds in zone 6?
I feel like this video was specifically made for me and my ugly rocky yard 🥰🥰🥰 thanks Angela! Can’t wait for the end of the month!
Best of luck to you!
THANK YOU 🌼

..wow...wild flowers...wonderful nature....love fr.PHILIPPINES...
Thanks for watching!
Growing wildflowers in the garden to attract pollinators and more bees. Wildflowers are the best.
I had no clue all those where wild! Thanks so much
Thank you!

This is perfect timing I just bought a packet of wildflowers from HD today. Can’t wait to plant them.

Thanks for the tip, I put mine out there before the rain.
Thank you

great video , I learned a lot, Tnx
Glad it was helpful!
I like to prepare a small control area with no seeds so I see what is growing there, helps me figure out which sprouts are weeds.
This is so helpful! This has been my struggle with wildflower mixes
@@kaitlin4214 The struggle is real! It's still so hard, so many species have weedy look alikes. :/
So lovely !
I learned the hard way that many wildflower seed packages actually contain a lot of invasive plants. So caution!
Good point. Choose one made for your area if at all possible.
stupidity.
Wow great video ,new here send by Grandma Sandy let’s stay connected, thanks for sharing such great information with us 💕
Very useful. Thank you.
Great for the insects.
For sure!
Thank you so much for this video. I’m getting ready to plant wildflowers in Granada, Spain.
Hello from Arizona! Happy planting!
@@GrowingInTheGarden and I’m actually from Arizona haha, born and raised in Tempe. Small world.

So what’s the difference between these wildflowers and the flowers you mention you grow in your garden? Besides perhaps the soil.

Makes perfect sense!!! Thanks Angela!
Thanks for sharing your video
Thanks for watching!
I spread aloottt of seeds, about as dense as you do at 3:20 , is that ok? They are all coming in now like a little green carpet
Thin them for the best results
thank you for being here
Love my moms annuals
Perfect!

Beautiful!! Do seeds get old and don’t grow if kept too long?
Seeds can last for many years if stored properly, you can read more here: growinginthegarden.com/seed-storage-organization-tips/
Thank you
Lovely flowers.. oddly those are mostly the flower seeds i have here in the UK.
i need wild flowers in august for my grandaughters wedding ,when should i plant them
Great

Can you rough up a grassy area or do you need to remove grass first? will the wildflower help choke out the grass? Or weeds?
You could try - depends on how thick grass/weeds are. Best to remove first if possible.
I don’t live in your area… would the advice to pull back the rocks apply to an already mulched area? Just pull them back, move the dirt around, seed, and push the mulch back over them?
If its mulch you don't need to pull it back, you could just rake it in a little so there is good soil to seed contact.
when the season over do you cut back anything?
I pull most of them out or let them die back in place.
Can you throw wildflower seeds on the ground and they will grow or do you have to bury them?
scratch them into the soil a bit first.
Great video! Any thoughts on non toxic flowers? Asking for a friend (puppy). :)
What can i grow [ sow]in july [ for next year]?
On a 10 cm layer
Uk
I bought a packet of wildflower mix from my local 10 for 1€ Rack,Do you know if this will help attract pollinators for my tomatoes?
Is it too late to plant wildflower seeds now in FL (zone 9a)?
So the rocks will still allow enough sun?
yes
Rabbits constantly eat ALL mine. It’s really frustrating. But I keep trying!
That does sound frustrating. Hard to keep rabbits away. Best of luck to you.

Cosmos, to my knowledge are native to Mexico. Nonetheless, they are my favorite flower.
Yes, and Mexico is part of North America and only short drive from Arizona which was once Mexican territory. We have same climate and landscape.

Which wildflowers for south Florida?
Check with a local nursery
Located in AZ and just saw this video. Can we still plant wild flowers?
The best time is usually in the fall, but you can always sprinkle a few seeds and try.
Hello my dearest Angela
I am following you from Australia

I have a Lemon tree , this year I lost all the lemons . They were getting rotten on the tree and falling down .

Hmmm. I would check with a local nursery to see the type of bugs that cause that there in Australia - it may be different than what we have here.
You need to contact your local gardening group, so they can help identify the bug.
Same goes for the fruit rotting.
It could be a fungal issue that is specific to your area, or your state.

Cold stratifying is a good idea for many types of wildflower seeds. I would guess that fall is a good time for milkweed as well.
This may sound like a strange question, but why are my wildflowers stretching and growing sideways? They seem to not have solid roots, so they’re all growing very tall, diagonally, and then fall over (I live in Phoenix, AZ)
Sounds like not enough sun and they are growing towards the light
Some of the wildflowers mentioned are not native to USA, but what the hell. They are beautiful and attract pollinators and are eye candy to flower lovers.
Can you plant wildflowers in the spring in the New England, will they grow? 😊
Check with your local extension office, they would have good ideas of planting dates for you
Where do you get your wild flower 🌸 ?

I kill everything so I'm going to take my chances and just sprinkle a packs.
How is it an accident if you purposely bought wild flower seeds and purposely planted and grew them ?

I bet you’re fun at parties
Ask your mother .
She probably didn’t have high hopes for it. Perhaps it started out as something to do and turned into something she loves
