Churchill's obsession with destroying the German people, not Hitler, plunged GB into an enormous war debt that led to a socialist government after the war that destroyed Great Britain. Some Prime Mjnister.

God bless you. I even as an American am considered a Churchill baby for I was born in January 1955 when he was PM his second time. He would have made a great US president.
He definitely would have. He reminds me of Ronald Reagan before there was Ronald Reagan. What is it that a lot of British and I guess Americans to that look at their history and judge it in such a Negative light. They were great men of their times. Churchill and Reagan would be disgusted with the leaderships and the state of our country of today. Reagan I think would be most upset with the media and the state of so-called journalism today. Our schools do not even teach about Thomas Paine or most of our founding fathers . I'd hate to think what Churchill would think about the British Parliament.
Man.. what a stretch of time to have been alive. Imagine being born and the top tier of travel was a horse/carriage/train.. and by the time you died.. you saw the invention of not only the car, the airplane and rockets shot into space with the very nearly complete goal of getting to the moon. Not to mention the birth of the atomic age and computers.. he got to see and experience so much.
An incredible life . I can see from some of the other comments that not everyone can understand the past and it is rather fashionable these days to condemn Churchill. However consider the alternative in 1940 . He was a larger than life figure which nobody can afford to be today with an intrusive, vitriolic press and equally distasteful social media .
When I was a young soldier, I very surprisingly won Winstons book about WW !! in a card game organized by my unit. I was never fond of card games, but things happen, do they? In fact, nobody else wanted this book, but I did. I read it and was utterly astonished on his perception about Germany and Europe over decades. My parents for what reasons ever, never talked about their experiences in WW II. So this was how I learned about it first hand. I did much research on Winstons life and by today, I still cherish his book. It is in my bookshelf. Directly besides my desk, so I can always see it, there is the picture of Winston, also containing his words. "In war: resolution, In defeat: defiance, In victory: magnanimity, In peace: good will.” Without him, my life would most likely have been very miserable. Today I am a free man. This is what I ow to him. Winston and Ludwig van Beethoven became the examples of my life. This is a very fine documentary, providing much insight of a great man. Roland from good old Germany.
Churchill condemns himself in his own book. Over the Katyn Forest massacre. His letter to Eden shows he KNEW the Russians did it, but Churchill blamed it on the Germans. If you REALLY research into Churchill you will find he was drunk throughout the war. He was a coward. Bombing of civilians and destruction of their houses is a War Crime. There is nothing good I can say about that man. I spit on his grave.
I really find these documentaries incredibly interesting! I have learned a great deal about each historical figure I have watched so far on this channel. Keep them coming.
As a 78 year old Man in the United States I grew up respecting Prim Minister Churchill as one of the Greatest Leaders in World History. I still feel this way. Thanks for the Great Video. Total Enjoyment!!!
And this man is responsible for Bengal Famine in India 1943. Three million Indians died due this fakin man, may be you don't even know this because they ( your school, media, society, history ) may didn't tell you, I know whites are hypocrite but respecting a man who is responsible for three million humans death is just act of foolishness old man.
Winston Churchill committed barbarous crimes against the German civilian population, such as in Dresden, where he ordered the bombing of thousands of civilians. History cannot be rewritten!
Fantastic again as always. The professional content and presentation is truly compelling. Any household interruption even for a couple of seconds of watching is intolerable and requires a rewind jog or two EVERY time! Best thanks and wishes in your continued great works and enrichment of so many lives!
I am 63 and thought i knew a lot about WW2. Watching this video, and the others, concentrating on the Nazis have given me more understanding in a couple of weeks than I had in the previous 50 years!
Both my Grandfather's fought at the Battle of the Somme in WW1 and my father flew as a 19year old RAF pilot in WW2. I was brought up in the knowledge that without the decisive and brave leadership of Sir Winston Churchill during WW2, our nation of Great Britain, the land mass of Europe and the lives we have led would have been been very different under the tyrannical rule of fascism. Churchill was a flawed human being, as we all are, and made mistakes but he also showed great courage and bravery and rose to the challenges he faced. On balance I believe him to have been a great leader and I'm sure history willl remember him as such.
Having lived my early years (age 8-14 years) through World War Two, right in the heart of Britain and experiencing every air raid over Birmingham UK, I agree that he was a good leader. Let us not however forget those "few" in the 1940 Battle of Britain (still unsung except for statues) who during that early stage, amidst much harrassment from unexpected quarters, kept their cool and saved us from Nazi rule at that vital time early on in World War Two. I believe this was the Kingpin which held together the vital and necessary courage to continue. At the same time, our courage not giving into Fascism developed our patience, perseverance, resilience, selflessness, forward thinking and attention to detail etc which is still thankfully with me to-day.
Sir Winston Churchill is buried, along side his wife, ( in a modest grave, ) in Blaydon . I think that this is near Blenheim Palace. Well worth a visit. Buses run from the station at Oxford to Blenheim Palace
@@edwardoleyba3075 This comment section is awesome. Just a billion Indians saying he should have been imploded. Guys, it's fine have you seen India's GDP?
Considering how sad his childhood was. One really does feel bad for him. The man had plenty of flaws. When you look at his life. He definitely was one of the most interesting people of the last century. Along with Teddy Roosevelt.
He was a debitor and a liar. Many generals would agree, he would boast about situations he knew nothing about. Not to mention we have to assume his creditors never tried to influence his public policy.
comparing my main man Teddy to this sack of meat, sad times indeed. Teddy had a near Forest Gump story to him, every thing he did could be one persons famous single life accomplishment. Churchhill was an aristocratic bully.
You consider his life and a sad childhood is what you think of, says more about you than him. He had a wonderful childhood and an amazing life but a shame about the millions that died because of him.
Churchill was the best of the best in that era. I think he was the only one in that war that knew what he was doing AND that he did it for England NOT for himself
There is absolutely no doubt about the weight carried by Prime Minister Churchill. What human being is without their flaws and failings. Is it not the true measure of the Man or Woman in overcoming these trials especially in the face of enormous challenges. Sir. Winston’s legacy can never be tarnished!! This Human was truly One In Many Millions…Here, Here I would like pay respect and give credit where it’s due to Mrs. Churchill who without a doubt was the bedrock and influencer that allowed Winston Churchill to become the Man we speak of so admirably.
@@anoukvoncken7428 that’s a ridiculous statement! Calling a spade a spade isn’t in anyway condoning the flaw or behaviour. What is most important is that the individual overcome them. There have many people who have a one time been bigoted in their beliefs. Who later on came to regret and change them. Which is the most important thing. I’m sure intelligent, caring people all agree on that point. Winston was flawed and bigoted no doubt. But he learned to overcome his darker nature. That’s what matters most.
A flawed human who rose to greatness in the utmost time of need for humanity. Whatever your views on him, he saved you all from either speaking fluent Reich German or being dead in mass burial graves because you were deemed "subhuman" or didn't meet the Arian requirements. You really don't know how lucky you all were. I say thank you Winston.
Very happy to have heard this in full. He was indeed a great man who shaped world politics at his time . Although his view on India is questionable he did great in establishing Europe and safeguarding uk
Thank You for a great series on Famous people. Regarding Churchill, I feel he was the right person for the right job and at the right time. I don't feel that England would of been as successful without him and yes he had some alternate views that people disagreed with, made mistakes but at that time he was the kind of strength England needed, along with the Bravery of all Allies to Defeat the evil that was trying to consume the World. Thanks for a great series. Kev.

Another well-done documentary! This is my 2nd I watched after President Roosevelt. Both Churchill and Roosevelt are my heroes. Onto the next documentary!
He was such an endearing character. Read the book Clementine Churchill. The woman behind the man. They shared sweet love notes. They had a drain put in the bathroom floor as Churchill loved to slosh and splash in the tub. He dabbled in bricklaying and at night the tradesmen would go out and straighten his work. He liked to lounge in the nude. He enjoyed painting as a hobby. I thought his son Randolf was so sad had addictions and gambling debts. They had some rough years financially. He really aided QE11, as a young queen in her early rein.
He also loved starving millions of women in India and viewed them as a “beastly people with a beastly religion” What a wholesome, endearing character indeed.
Winston Churchill will be thanked forever for his work. Amazing human being. Excellent Biographie. Congratulations to all The people that made it possible.
His steadfast refusal of Hitler's lies, was the hallmark of his life, and his duty to the crown and ordinary britts was unshakable. Thank God, he was there for Britain in its hour of existence.

Excellent documentary about an amazing man who helped shape major events in the 20th century. I named my son after Winston and he has lived up to the name
As an American, I will forever be grateful for Churchill's resilient leadership in WW2. If Britain had sued for peace, the USAAF wouldn't have been able to perform strategic bombing against Germany, and conversely, Hitler would've been that much closer to striking US soil. Churchill effectively saved both nations from a very different outcome. Right leader at the right time.
Hitler never would’ve tried to take on America on American soil. Would’ve been very difficult for them to have gotten any kind of significant landing force across the Atlantic without it being sunk.. that alone would’ve been a very difficult battle for them.. let alone if they tried to actually land in America.
@@darthsilversith667 I wasn't refering to amphibious invasions, which would've been next to impossible given the state of the Kriegsmarine at the time as you said. I was refering to the fact that Germany would have had potential to launch long-range bombing missions against US cities via bases in the UK.
@@darthsilversith667 Germany was developing several prototype transatlantic bombers such as the Horton Ho.XVIII and the Messerschmitt 264, which were only shelved because of the Allied bombing campaign from bases in thd UK. If Britain fell, these projects would've gained much more momentum. Hitler was obsessed with bombing New York City to ruin, and likely would've done so with a Nazi-occupied Britain.
and thanks to him millions of Bengal people died and that destructive European colony USA could grow into the biggest terrorist state ever. like they didn"t cause enough terror in their own state built on stolen land.
As a bibliophile and amateur historian, I admire this great story of Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, for his leadership as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain during World War II and his constant fight against the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler. Winston Churchill, was born in Oxfordshire, Woodstock, England, on November 30, 1874 and died in London on January 24, 1965. He was a British military man, politician, war correspondent, writer, historian and painter, he was the son of the English aristocrat and politician Lord Randolph Henri Spencer Churchill and Jennie Jerome, daughter of the American millionaire Leonard Jerome. Young Churchill did not stand out in his studies at school due to his poor grades and being late to classes for several days, then Churchill's father, Lord Randolph, wanted his son to study at the Sandhurst military career to at least be successful in life. So young Churchill began to study at the military academy where he managed to stand out as a horseman, shooter and swordsman. Then after graduating from the Sandhurst military academy, he began to participate and fight in several military campaigns of the British army in Cuba, India, Sudan and South Africa from 1895 - 1899. Young Churchill returned to London, England, in 1900, where Churchill dedicated himself for the first time in his life to politics for the Conservative Party. So after several years Churchill held several public offices such as Chancellor of the Exchequer, First Lord of the Admiralty, Minister of War, Minister of the Air, Minister for the Colonies, Minister of the Interior and of course Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain from 1940 -1945 then 1951 -1955.
You cannot judge historical figures by today's norms. He was such a pwerhouse, he guided England through one of the most awful part of their history. I never knew he was awarded a Nobel prize, well deserved I think! I am an Irish national and have spent all my life from 13 months old in England. My Dad left Dublin for England in 1959 as a qualified carpenter and it took months for him to find a place to live, because there were so many signs that said "no blacks, no Irish and no dogs". This is honestly true. My Dad just persevered, and we came over. But my Mom and Dad just tried to fit in. In the late 60s and early 70s a lot of corner shops were taken over or opened by Indian or Pakistani families, so we would talk about going to the Paolo shop. I know, don't swallow your teeth with outrage, but that was what we said. Do I deserve to be punished for saying that in the 70s? No, I don't think so. For saying it now, absolutely! It makes me so very angry when historical people are judged by today's norms and because I have been honest I hope I don't get poo on my head. For the era he lived in he was a good man. Before you throw have at people understand the cultural norms of their day. Thank you for a very informative video, truly.
You are right. We judge others by our "standards," but who gave us the assurance that these "standards" are infallible and immutable ?.A 100 years from now the world may have different value systems and will judge quite differently. Also, these are Western standards and The rest of the world even now judges things by different standards than the West.
@ayushkumar10brollno.86 of course, Lenin had killed 10 million, Stalin had killed 15 million before him, Hitler had killed 50 million contemporeous with him while Mao would kill 50 million after him.
Thank you for this balanced statement. Churchill was clearly the outstanding figure in British politics of the 20th century. He had a very clear view on totalitarianism.
Thanks for this programme. I was surprised that no mention was made of the British attack on the French Navy in Mers El Kébir, on 3rd July 1940. Some 1300 French soldiers were killed. I am French, and this might explain my reaction. Although I understand that, at the time, France was defeated, I still believe it was a very heavy price to pay.. Were alternatives considered ? This being said, I have no doubt Churchill will remain in history because he had a clear view of the danger of Nazi Germany and would not surrender. We - French - owe him a lot.
Churchill gave them a chance to surrender, and they didn’t. He couldn’t allow the Nazis to have that added naval power. War is hell, and the traitor Vici French should have made a better decision.
They had a choice but the Vichy French refused bc they were scared Of the German reaction in regard to Continuing the self government. So Sir Winston had no choice so to speak. And the French Fleet answers back by firing salvos of naval gunfire, and the Royal Navy answered. So it was a miscalculation On both sides part.

White supremacy in a nutshell. "Genocide should not overshadow the glorious things he did for white dominance" Disgusting how easy you all think of genocide
Being an admirer of his personality and legacy, regardless of his critics, who will undoubtedly have certain reasons in their arguments, it is worth recognizing that he was a superlative character in the development of modern history and an excellent politician in the literal sense of the word, pragmatic like few others, intuitive and scathing. Thanks to his management, even today some of us can say that we are free. Thanks for sharing this material.

Churchill had many flaws but he made such a vital and critical difference when it was most needed. Without that, world history would have been very different. For that, our debt to him is massive.
When comparing Sir Winston to subsequent and modern day Prime Ministers his gravitas and statesmanship is unrivalled. What a fantastic documentary charting one of this country’s greats. Many know his name but not much else so this informative documentary was a excellent watch. Thank you.

Churchill was an extraordinary man. Who’s mind was able to grasp many situations and correctly perceive the influence of each on the other. His brilliance saved Europe from complete disaster not just once, but twice. His misjudgments are very few. He was a man for his time. Without his leadership our world would be a totally different place.
Yes you be right I agree, I would sit with him to drink an entire bottle of Talisker,... up to the last drop,.. "if he left me that drop to serve me", ... something that I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world.
Like every other human, Churchill was complex. His errors and wrongdoing do not underplay the act that he saved Western civilization . For that I will be eternally grateful.
The greatness of Great Britain is that they are always ungrateful. Britain used our soldiers as cannon fodder. More than 300,000 Indian soldiers sacrificed their life to protect Britain from German Nazi attack and your great leader expressed his gratitude by slaughtering 4.3 million people in Bengal. You people simply don't know what gratitude is all about.
The man was brilliant . God bless him and rest in peace For ever grateful for his wisdom and courage . We could use him now no other person has come close
The Greatest Briton and the reason the Western world exists and lives and freedom to this day. His decision to fight on in 1940 come what may will be talked about in 1000 years. Churchill will be held up alongside Ceasar and Napoleon as a titan of history
Neville Chamberlains dithering during the rise of the Nazi party that got Britain into WW2. He resigned in 1940 a failure. Stalins armies and the bullets they soaked up in their Millions when Hitler got over confident and decided to fight on both the eastern and western front simultaneously, the later during the brutal Russian winter lost the Nazis the war. England by itself would be speaking German now if it wasn’t fir external help. Churchill drained resources from to Indian colonies to aid the war effort which almost bankrupted the nation caused the death of millions during the Bengal famine. Churchill love of warmongering and the limelight battle got him exiled from power for years after WW1 for being too radical. Yes I suppose he was great in terms of being bullish and a military man in the Boer war etc a possibly if he’d have been in power the Nazis may not have become such a strong force as they did in full view of the world albeit in the grips of the Great Depression of the 1930s after the stock market crash of 1929 but after his tenure it was clear Britain has lost its world dominating power to the US who couldn’t be bothered to get involved to protect the Nazis invading Britain and it was only after Pearl Harbour was bombed by Japan that they we drawn into the conflict. Not so great a legacy when you look at those facts. Anyone feels they should correct my words feel free. I’m always willing to learn. 🤙🏾
This is audacious. He was a Diabolique person and a genocidal monster. The greatness of your great nation is that you people are always ungrateful. Interesting how people can change in a time of crisis. Churchill went from worrying about the treatment of the defeated enemy to sinking the French Fleet to keep it from German hands.
More so lack of conviction when needing to defend your country in a time of war. Might also be partly due to Germans being provided with “necessary resources” which were used to create war machines for WW2

Franklin Roosevelt? He was pathetic! America had to pass an amendment to stop egomaniac power-hungry men like Roosevelt From being able to run for president more than twice. Churchill despised him. There is a great book called ‘The Roosevelt Myth’, talks about how pathetic the guy was, give it a read!
He was a stubborn man and that's one of his best attributes, when others wanted to make so called peace terms with Hitler he stood his ground, he represented what the avg British citizen felt, fight the Germans at any cost, greatest example of stand up against tyranny and show defiance against all odds, he gave the people a sense of pride for their country.

The two minutes that saved the civilized world. For once he sat quietly and didn't say anything. And thus even though the King wanted Halifax for PM, Churchill was chosen. The failures or miscalculations he may have had were not so horrible as to alter the course of history toward a negative outcome. For that reason he should retain the title, thanks to the weight of his successes.
He got lucky that the Germans had little interest in invading England and much more interest in Russia due to the need of resources. 80% of WW2 was won because of Russia which is reflected in the number of casualties. During the war Stalin was a friend and a hero, after the war he became a dictator!

In defeat: defiance,
In victory: magnanimity,
In peace: good will.”

History is fickle, subject to variable points of view.
It was people like Churchill that pushed us into an unnecessary war in 1914
Getting involved in that stupid war was the death of this country

@@anoukvoncken7428 that’s a ridiculous statement! Calling a spade a spade isn’t in anyway condoning the flaw or behaviour. What is most important is that the individual overcome them. There have many people who have a one time been bigoted in their beliefs. Who later on came to regret and change them. Which is the most important thing. I’m sure intelligent, caring people all agree on that point. Winston was flawed and bigoted no doubt. But he learned to overcome his darker nature. That’s what matters most.

She was so lucky to know him. The Queen
He also loved starving millions of women in India and viewed them as a “beastly people with a beastly religion”

@@patrickt7 Meh.. that would’ve been a one way trip for any bomber any way you slice it. Germany probably couldn’t have afforded to do that long term.
@@darthsilversith667 Germany was developing several prototype transatlantic bombers such as the Horton Ho.XVIII and the Messerschmitt 264, which were only shelved because of the Allied bombing campaign from bases in thd UK. His leadership during WWIi and Inspiring Talks to the British people to Not Give up or Give In to Despair Defines True Greatness

I have read of this destruction of the French navy and seamen. Appalling.
Churchill gave them a chance to surrender, and they didn’t. He couldn’t allow the Nazis to have that added naval power. War is hell, and the traitor Vici French should have made a better decision.

Thank you Sir Winston Churchill for saving my future. And not just mine, but the whole of western civilisation. It is to you that I owe thanks for my freedom, liberty and peace. May God forever be with you and may you Rest In Peace.
Lol liberty huh?

@@zarni000 Churchill fought for the freedom of London and Britain to speak Arabic instead of German 🤣🤣🤣
Thankyou Mr Churchill for saving our future, An addition to the list of Great British Learders, like Newton, Alan Turing, and many more to mention here
Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt are my favorite historical political leaders. I wish our modern politicians had the kind of grit and charisma that both Churchill and Roosevelt had. The world sorely needs it.
”There is nothing to fear but fear itself”(Franklin Delano Roosevelt)
Franklin Roosevelt? He was pathetic! America had to pass an amendment to stop egomaniac power-hungry men like Roosevelt From being able to run for president more than twice.
Churchill despised him. There is a great book called ‘The Roosevelt Myth’, talks about how pathetic the guy was, give it a read!
And Franklin Roosevelts ignorance and lust for power!
He allied with tyranny.
True, but that doesn’t have anything to do with what he said.
I wonder what Churchill would have said of the current muppets in Number 10.
In 1965 at age 19 I was a very junior rank in the RAF but I was allowed to be one of the many that owed so much to so few that lined the route of the funeral courtage.
My hero. In my lounge is a poster- Let us go forward together ❤
The two minutes that saved the civilized world. For once he sat quietly and didn't say anything. And thus even though the King wanted Halifax for PM, Churchill was chosen. Plus, he wrote his own speeches. And he went out among the people during the blitz. This was an important moral booster for the nation. He was not hidden away with the elite. The people knew this and this helped them to endure and fight on.
I watched a very interesting video on the advisor that recommended Churchill stay silent , the advisor was Irish.
@@nickmoloney9820 Churchill was known for never shutting up, so it was tense as they were not expecting his silent contemplation. Nervously the Kings choice started babbling.
Who cares that he killed millions of Bengal people, right? A coupe of million brown lives are collateral damage, a smal price for the survival of the West and their destructive systems of exploitation. "Civilized world" my ass. And your white centered comment is the perfect example of why your "civilized workl " narrative is the biggest lie since 1492

@@morningstararun6278 Out of all the people in the history. You could have chosen Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussain, Putin and you went for Winston Churchill, a man whos worst action was a screw uo in strategy during Ww1.
That is why I consider you to be stupid. Also the fact that you're using a subjective statement and treating it like it's objective.
He is one of the best defenders for great British global dominate ... He was found wherever, whenever British beneficial, struggling for survival & facing changes . . .a great & informative documentary about a famous Winston Churchill... really, he was a great British prime minister.. for British
Not even for the British but for his own personal gain
His grandfather was the King of Wall Street. Britain is still paying the war debt to Wall Street. A truly great Briton
Britain finished paying off ww2 debt in 2006.
Saying that Britain only finished paying of reparations to slave owners when they outlawed slavery 30 years ago.
A Great Man of his time and easily the greatest of all British Prime Ministers.
He was also the greatest child molester in history that what you don’t know.
Churchill’s successes cement his legacy and earn him the respect as Britain’s greatest Prime Minister.
We are very excited and really like your creative ideas, made it enjoyable to watch and keep watching, hope you continue this great idea forever.
Thank God for Winston Churchill . What a leader. Wish we had another of his kind for the wars we are fighting today.
We do, his name is Donald Trump. Trump is Hated by people for speaking his mind and defending freedom, just as Churchill was!
Exceedingly comprehensive, lucid, and accurate. Excellent.
I love this man, one day I'll get to really read his history. I like him immensely
Look up his Trilogy . I used to have it in Hard back I Donated it to a History teacher. I figured she could put it to good use better than keeping it to myself. One of the book titled The Gathering Storm comes to mind. My family is Dutch and WWII survivors.
I am currently reading The Gathering Storm. It is the first book that I've read by Winston. Despite its length and density it is encouraging me to read more by this political giant.
@@troymills9437 Have you seen the movie The Gathering Storm it is very good and the sequel I think it is called Into the Storm.
My respects for donating to education, I’m sure she will put it to good use. My Dutch ancestors fought in the Revolution of the 13 Colonies, probably against my British ancestors. Hope you are well.
Nice documentary man, thank you so much 💯🙏🏻
