- Does your 2024 iPad Pro M4 tandem OLED display look "grainy"? What causes it, why should we care (or not), and is the graininess a deal-breaker for me? 🧐

Is the iPad Pro's grainy display a dealbreaker for you or nah? 👇🏼 comment below!
I have same iPad Pro but don’t have the issue maybe because I use a screen protector for it
@@NicVandEmZ ah smart, a screen protector could help mask this issue
Is Tandem OLED good for eyes? Somehow I feel there's a blooming coming when you zoom in closer.
@@manoharmeka999 there is no blooming on an OLED screen since its pixels emit light on an individual level (we talk about millions of pixels vs just hundred/thousand zones on mini LED). The problem you see here is due to his camera.
I initiated a return.I hope the new unit has reduced mura than the previous one.
Ya I didn’t notice it until I saw a Reddit post about it. Then I checked in a dim room dim display zoomed in really close and then I could see it. This will not be your normal viewing experience so I will not be returning it
At last someone is talking about this, thanks.
A bunch of people have mentioned this non problem. It’s funny n y, as Samsung tablet displays have this problem, but no one seems to care.
@@melgross Samsung tablets do not have tandem oleds…
@@abertolucci9780 this happens with all OLEDs.
apple will blacklist his youtube channel as a result
The only OLED panel I have ever seen grain as depicted on the M4 iPad Pro is from the 2020 Motorola Edge Plus. That phone used a cheap quality off brand OLED panel designed by Samsung but is officially manufactured by Ygpmoiki in Taiwan. I wonder if this is the same situation of the OLED panel in the iPad 🤔.
I own lots of OLEDs and this is just a weakness of OLEDs at low brightness. The evenness of dim grays is one of the few strengths of LCDs, but OLEDs are still overall superior.
Agreed
Grain makes a display useless for anyone doing graphic design. The only advantage OLED has is black blacks, but Mini-LED has that as well. At the same time, black black is something you only see in dark rooms anyway.
@@pressrepeat2000 It appears the grain is only there on grays at low brightness levels. If I was doing graphic work on an OLED I would turn the brightness to at least 50% if not higher.
I edit photos on every device I use at 100% brightness
@VectorGaming4080
💯
I also have on mine. I’m convinced most panels with have this and the people who say they don’t have it did not look closely enough. Not sure if I want to return mine I will check the models in store and compare them.
Superb. Never knew this.
I saw it when I went to best buy to check out the review model. I was like dang it almost look worse than my M2 that I didnt have with me. I was soooo confused because I was super excited about seeing the new screen
thanks for the video. keep it up
Thanks for watching!
My ipad m4 looks gorgeous
Yeah it’s still an incredible display, even w the “grain”
I also own lots of oleds. It‘s not a Samsung-issue, it‘s a technology-issue. My LG Oled TV has it, my Tab S9 Plus has it, my iPhone 15 Pro has it, my Steam Deck Oled has it and I can even see it on my Apple Watch S9 if I look closely. Yes, some of those displays are provided by Samsung. However, I remember it was super irritating on my LG V30 back in the days, but tech has evolved since then. I also notice it on both of my portable INNOCN Oled monitors, which have displays supplied by BOE.
It is NOT limited to Samsung. It‘s a technology shortcoming that I would take 10 out of 10 times since I absolutely hate displays with backlight.
Haven‘t seen the M4 iPads in person, but since I‘m sensitive to it, I‘m sure I‘d notice it right away. It has never bothered me too much, though. Low res Oleds with pentile or diamond matrix were super terrible for me, but the grainy greys on high res oleds are absolutely acceptable for me.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
They should have upped the PPI to compensate for this just like they did when they went to OLED on iPhones. They went from 401 PPI to 458.
I’m returning mine. I’m getting eye strain when I read too much on it. Video looks amazing but I don’t only use my iPad as a portable TV.
Agreed!
I am telling myself that my new iPad doesn’t have this and refusing to check because I know it will drive me crazy the second I see it 😂
Lmao 😭 yeah just don’t look for it and you’ll be fine
😂
Some advice, I reckon if you were to buy a new iPad, the M2 iPad Air is perhaps the more suited choice because of this, but if you desperately need the 120Hz ProMotion display and the best cameras, and best RAM (8GB for 256/512GB, 16GB for 1TB+), the M2 iPad Pro is perfect.
If the grainy display in the M4 iPad Pro really is a hardware problem and something that can’t be addressed in a software update, maybe Apple might recall this hyped OLED iPad? Certainly could be possible, if enough people complain about this display issue.
Despite the hype around the OLED display, the M4 iPad Pro probably might not be perfect, unless you want a grainy display. That’s not to say you shouldn’t buy it, because some folks might really need that heavy amount of power (M4, 16GB RAM, 1TB+), and they probably just wouldn’t even care about the small detail. Even then, there are some users who don’t even notice this issue on their devices, no matter how hard they try to spot the grainy display. Fortunately, my OLED iPhone does not have this issue.
I don’t have that problem. I checked even with magnifying glasses.
Yeah this doesn’t really bother me. I never was aware until people started talking about it.
Does not show up on my 13 inch
What about someone with light sensitivity that uses the screen on like the lowest brightness setting you van, literally, or sometimes has assimilate features to lower it further? This is concerning to me cause I’m one of those people, I wanted to watch dark movies scenes on it
It's helpful to understand what's going on with the screen. Appreciate the detailed explanation! We sent you an email, take a look.
I only see it on images that are not completely black and you really have to focus and look for it. It’s nitpicking
I have the 11 inch 2024 but I can’t see it!
Merhabalar.Vertical banding test yaptığınızda durum nasıl?
I have a feeling it was my comment , wasn't it? Haha 😄
I don't see it on my 13" so fingers crossed I'm good!
🤞🏼
I have a 12 pro and it’s super grainy
But at really low brightness
But outdoors it’s almost impossible to see it
I'd bet the people who complain about this don't realize RUclips automatically downscales everything they watch. My main question about this ipad is how long can you view it in direct sunlight before the screen auto dims to a point where it's not useful?
Mine better not have this when I get it in mid-June or it’s going back!
It will have it bro, almost all Oleds will have it. Even just google it, Samsung galaxy s24s all have it, it's been reported that all iPhone with Oleds have it too.
From what I have read, you need to know it's there and look for it.
So it's a flaw and shouldn't be release on a final product then eh
Are you noticing any difference between the old Ipad pro and the new dual display design on the new one?
Yes, totally. I’ll prob do a comparison video
I don't have this problem.
WHO TF can see this at 300dpi from 50cm distance??? 🤣🤣🤣 Exactly nobody 🤣
The 2022 iPad Pro has a beautiful Liquid Retina IPS LCD 120 Hz display. No grainy effect there. It's beautiful.
Seems like the M4 iPad has the inferior screen. I will avoid it.
It’s bloom vs grain and as a M2 owner I’d rather take grain.
I honestly do not see it… I actually love my m4 ipad!!!
octopus emoji
Blooming wasn’t an issue either unless you watch videos in a pitch black room on max brightness frying your retina…
It is almost there even on white screen. I think i purchased 1st generation ipad not 2024
Meh, its there for sure but its less than the average matte screen blotchyness and close to gone at 75% + brightness. Future higher dpi screens will overcome this completely.
This feels very inconsistent. First you state that the blacks are a huge benefit of OLED, then you say that you only see the grain in dimly lit environments. But that’s when you only benefit from deep blacks as well, you can’t see these blacks in bright rooms anyway.
I think he meant low light on the device not the environment. Oled allows the contrast to pop at higher brightness settings. I think its most noticeable with the brightness turned down, not a dark room, but a dark screen.
Doesn’t happen to my 11” M2 IPad Pro. It’s actually more vibrant
Does this only happen on low brightness settings?
It's easier to see at lower brightness, but it's less visible with higher brightness. tbh I don't really notice it at all unless I look for it super closely.
@@b3naqua I’m not sure which iPad to get whether to get the 11inch pro or the new 11inch air, I’ll mainly be using it for mobile gaming Netflix etc
@user-mc5zt6hs5k if you’re mostly gaming and watching videos, get the new iPad Pro M4 cuz videos/graphics look so good on it! The grainy vibes aren’t that noticeable imo
@@b3naqua that’s great thank you for the information 🙂
On my m4 iPad right now. I do not have this issue. I would return if yours has this issue.
Same here. M4 13" iPad Pro and I also don't have this issue.
I might take mine to the Apple Store to see what they think & compare it to the display models
@@b3naqua it's a good idea for a new video. It would be interesting to compare, given that many people are now concerned about this and are looking for a solution to this problem.
Lucky me I never use dark mode 😂
It is present even on light mode
🐙
I have an 11 inch and I used a magnifying glass and it’s not there on mine.
Replace it , if than same keep it its ok
I can barely see it even if I try as hard as I can lol
That's a good thing!
This isn’t a real problem, as it’s almost impossible to see. Mine isn’t here yet, but my wife’s looks just fine. If you have to lower the brightness that much and look in a darkened room, very closely, then there’s no problem.
This is literally not a problem 😂. It’s just a limitation of current OLED technology
If you have to dim the screen and hold it 3 inches from your eyes to barely see this issue is this actually a issue 😂
Are we absolutely sure this has nothing to do with the antireflective coating which is known to negatively affect sharpness (such as s24U)? Or is this an entirely selarate issue?
This is a completely separate issue. It’s due to uneven current supply to various pixels in the OLED panel. That causes grain in colors that are neither very dark or very bright, and is specifically very visible in greys. So with OLED you get black blacks, but very grainy greys. Not on all panels, but most of them.
Look at the advantages, not the disadvantages. Can you conclude that all products are?
Then use an LCD panel. You only think about the past and don't accept change.
Great example of a first world problem 🤣 not noticeable on my M4 anyway
Lmao true
Is apple really going to do anything about it? I mean some sort of a software update for those of us who already bought the m4 iPad Pro.
Hopefully they can improve this issue w a software update, and if enough ppl make noise about it 🤞🏼
Just don’t turn down the brightness
Now I’m scared to 💀 jk
If you need to turn down the lights, take off your glasses and get within an inch or the screen to see it… Does it really matter?!
Nope lol
It’s not a problem, it’s the tech. Y’all gotta get lives, people claiming to be into technology don’t even understand it.
Sure every device can't be perfect at all but since Apple always boost for perfection then imperfection can't be acceptable at the high cost of hard earn money 😢😂😅
lmao true
This is why grey UIs need to be eliminated. Why does apple insist on using so many grey elements in "dark mode" like the keyboard and settings. Its so frustrating. JUST TURN THE PIXELS OFF
I WAS THINKING SAME THING
Yeah it would be nice if they made the UI black! To take full advantage of the beautiful tandem OLED
Never saw this on Samsung AMOLED
it happens on them as well, I own both.
It's reported to be on all the Samsung Oleds and IPhones too. More so the larger models like Pro Max and Galaxy Ultra
This is a Samsung issue. LG is and always has been the king of OLED. The 13" iPads don't have this issue. EDIT: I was wrong, apparently 13" has the issue as well.
Been seeing some threads (macrumors, Reddit etc) where ppl say it’s an issue w the 13” models too
I have a Samsung OLED monitor and a Sony OLED TV (LG panel) both of them don’t have this issue.
My 13" have this issue I just checked
Not true. I can see it on my 13 M4
My 13 inch ipad pro M4 has this issue. :) Many do, if not all of them.

A problem that you don’t notice is still a problem
Ooof
Absolutely right. People who say it is not present with me , they should visit an ophthalmologist.
Whatever this is it is unacceptable. It's not living up to its claim. It is consumer fraud. It's apples problem not the end user. They are thwarting a major recall.
Quite upsetting, iPad Pro M1 just turns out to be better for viewing photos.
The grain is noticeable in whites too, pixels are glittering like snow.
